Kelly (10/5): Kyoto Machiya house with all modern amenities - This place was amazing. I want to go back so badly. We got a great deal on Expedia of 50% off, so it felt like we really lucked out, but I would still pay full price. It's an authentic Kyoto-style machiya (a traditional two-story wooden house), and I've always wanted to stay in one. Although the building and architecture are traditional, it's got a beautiful modern interior with all the amenities - wifi, Apple TV, outlets for USB, etc. The bathroom is awesome - auto washlet, rainfall shower, Bluetooth speakers. It's one minute from Yasaka shrine, a beautiful pagoda. The neighborhood is very quaint but super-touristy, but at night there's no one around and it's fantastic.
