Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- xiaoxuan (6/5): Dated but clean hotel - There aren’t many hotel choices in this area. We stayed in their Japanese tatami room for 5. Overall this hotel is good value for the price. The hotel is dated but very clean. There is a standard onsen for a soak. We booked with breakfast (Japanese) which was good . Limited free parking lots. The staff helped us to book a nice izakaya nearby for our dinner. Again not many choices and suggest a reservation for any restaurant. Adequate for a one night stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): -
- suwit (10/5): good price + nice location - big room with small living room and bathroom
my room see mountain view outside
and good location that just a few miniute to takachiho
- shaunslipshy (8/5): Good enough - Decent onsen on top floor, breakfast was good. Place is a little dated but ok for the price and couldn’t find much elsewhere. Wifi could be a bit faster but not much else to complain. Staff were also friendly to help us out.
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (6/5):
- garetjax72 (8/5): Old property, but spotless and functional - An old hotel in the centre of Takachiho town, but very well maintained and spotless. Comfortable for a night's stay to see the Gorge and unkai, and a decent traditional breakfast is usually included. There's free parking at the hotel, and a decent onsen on the top floor.
- Natalie (8/5): Typical ryokan - I think when we went, it was the slow season. Not much around open. Hotel could use an update. But the room was great. For one night, was ok and I would stay again.
- Lonelywolf (8/5): Old but spacios - This is an old hotel located at the middle of Takachiho town.
The hotel although it is old but it is very clean and spacious. Very spacious in Japan standard.
Definitely value for money. And it is recommended for those who wish to stay at the town area.
- KS (8/5): - Convenient location to takachiho shrine. Food availabke nearby. Takachiho gorge 15 min away.
- Hsin Yen (10/5): -
- SallyCheung (8/5): A very nice stay - We had booked typical Japanese Ryokan for two nights and it is a very nice stay. Is actually in the city center and you can find a lot of restaurants around. If you travel by bus it is also within walking distance. We stay in here because we want to visit a very waterfall and temple around. A lovely town to visit.
Room is very big and clean. Staffs are nice and they speak "okay" English, is good enough already. Breakfast is good.
The only thing might need to improve a bit is the hot spring on the top floor. A bit dated facilities.
I will recommend this hotel to everyone visiting this area.
- Verified traveler (8/5): convenient base to visit Takachiho. - The main reason we booked this place was to stay somewhere near Takachiho Gorge. It's not really a proper ryokan but the rooms were spacious and the futons were comfortable. On the top floor they have public baths (not really onsen, but just hot tubs). It wouldn't be very nice if it were crowded, but we were the only guests at the hotel so we had a soak. We also had breakfast at the hotel - not great. The fish was over salted and cooked within an inch of its life. We only saw two staff members during our stay but both were very friendly. Bottom line - a convenient place to stay when visiting Takachiho but skip the breakfast. (PS - the sushi restaurant called Take Sushi, right across from the entrance, is a good place for dinner.)
- Dyna (4/5): Very cold room - Stayed for a night to visit the gorge. Room was super cold as heater was not strong enough.
- Steven (8/5): - Easily accessible from Takachiho Bus Centre. Hotel shows signs of age but still clean and tidy. Staff are friendly and service is great.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Good stay but limited amenities ard - Very roomy tatami but parking was full and the other parking lot was down a dodgy lane at night. Nothing much ard hotel though hotel stay was good.
- tensai_sendo (6/5): Hotel for one night - It was a correct hotel.
Nice ryokan though but not necessarily the best.
Still, the reception was good and useful. Not the best we had but enough for one night.
Easy to find from the bus terminal.
Since it is a small town, even if it was not the brest hotel, it was really good for one night.
- LuLuCNL (8/5): Cozy Hotel - I chose Imakuni Ryokan mainly for its location, since I was visiting the gorge. The room was spacious, but the facilities were dated. All the staff members I met were very helpful and sincere. The hot bath located at 7/F was just a bit bigger than a bath tub without a nice view. Both the dinner and breakfast were served at a dining hall. The food was of good quality. This hotel is good for guests looking for a hotel in a nice location with some shops/restaurants around, but not for guests looking for luxury accommodation.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Hotel is better than their photoes. - Public bath is very clean and use all good stuffs. It 'S tradition room but it 's new. I m appreciated!!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - the hotel is a bit old. but excellent location. There is a welcome snack which is delicious.
- travelbugpsk (6/5): Simple no frills ryokan - The reception area is very outdated but thankfully the rooms were very spacious n clean. It would be useful if the room could have one or two extra mirrors for dressing up. Provision of basic essentials like cotton wool, cotton buds, shower caps would be useful too. Free parking is available
- 88tiny123 (6/5): Reasonable for 1 night stay - too quiet for our liking. Just 1 night is sufficient. Shops closed early and nothing much to do if you arrive late. Driving to the gorge is a bit steep and be careful. Nearby the ryokan, there's a place where you can do some handicrafts to kill your time.
- Essleshal (10/5): Good spot to visit Tackachiho Gorge - We stayed in a Japanese style room which was very comfortable. The rooms are large with an entry hall, bathroom, separate lounge, balcony and a room big enough to sleep 3 adults. Mattresses were very comfortable.
Hotel is in a convenient location to drive to the gorge and within walking distance to restaurants.
- Pandacheryl (8/5): Reasonable stay if visiting takachiho gorge - Arrived late in the town where there's no night life. Good enough for an overnight stay before heading to takachiho gorge early in the morning. Free parking and spacious rooms. Helpful hotel staff. Old hotel with ryokan styled rooms but clean
- jamesbob75 (8/5): Reasonable overnight stop with helpful staff - This is a Japanese style business hotel rather than a proper Ryokan; it was very quiet the night we stayed and we got a massive room with separate lounge that could have slept 6! Hotel itself looks a little tired but still clean and well equipped. Parking is available and we got into a covered space right next to the entrance. The staff were very helpful and arranged free taxis for the Kasuka performance and pointed us to a great local Izakaya just up the road. Breakfast was Japanese style only and served at the table rather than buffet style.
Takachiho is a friendly little town and a worthwhile diversion to see the gorge. The hotel was quite adequate for a one night stay.
- BlueStar19 (8/5): A good place to stay near Takachiho Gorge - This property was a bit worn down but our spacious Japanese-style room was comfortable and clean. Most places we found in Takachiho involved a shared bathroom but this ryokan offered en-suite facilities, which was a good choice for us. There is limited parking near the side entrance, so you may have to park further down the sloped road at another designated parking area. Takachiho Gorge is about 10 mins away by car. A free shuttle bus is offered to/from Takachiho Shrine.
**Food and drinks** We highly recommend TAKESUSHI, a local favourite sushi restaurant opposite the front entrance to the ryokan. We were warmly welcomed by Chef Takayuki and his lovely wife, Humiko. Chef Takayuki (known to us as Takachiho's Matsu-Jun) entertained and prepared amazing sushi for us at the bar. A hefty meal of fresh sushi (the best in Takachiho!), crisp salad, miso soup and fried chicken totalled 7000yen for 3 of us. Special thanks to Tomo, our English/Japanese sensei who helped translate for us as the English menu was still in the making. We appreciate all your kindness and hospitality.
- mrsflorencegoh (8/5): Adjust mindset when staying in ryokan - Our party comprised 3 adults. We were given a spacious Japanese/ tatami room, with another sitting area at the balcony. In the day time, the space is a living room. At night, 3 mattress and beddings were laid out on the floor. It is still quite spacious. The room is clean, though the lights are dim. Our room was quiet. The mattress is firm and not thick. The toilet, shower/bath and wash-hand basin are in 3 separate compartments. This convenient arrangement allows different people to use the en-suite concurrently.
There is an onsen (hot spring bath) in the hotel, but no security features to the ladies section, which means anybody could walk in.
Parking is available at the side of the hotel. Some minimum English was spoken at the reception. Staff are friendly. No internet in room.
Location: Opposite the hotel is a nice traditional sushi restaurant offering fresh seafood (sushi, sashimi), salad, tempura, soup. We sat in front of the chef and watched him as he prepared our sushi.
- RYOKOSURU (6/5): Friendly staff, worn out establishment - I am not sure if I would recommend this ryokan to a friend, on the one hand the staff is friendly, the food is really good and location is great, since it is right behind the bus station. On the other hand, rooms are old and tatamis are made of plastic instead of straw which make you feel in a "fake" Japanese room. Price is ok but if you don´t mind spending some more money, I would advise you to look for a more authentic place,
- Just-Julie-Cairns (10/5): Such a wonderful experience - We had booked our accomodation for one night in Takachiho at a Ryokan well in advance, but about a week before we were to arrive in Takachiho we received an email to say our ryokan had had a fire and they were unable to keep our reservation. With help from the local tourist information centre they were able to get us into Imakuni Ryokan. We booked two rooms. My husband and I in one room and our three daughters in the other room. The price included dinner and breakfast as well as free bus ride to and from the dances at the hall next to the shrine. The dinner was just amazing!!!!! There must have been 12 courses using local foods which was a great taste sensation. We finished dinner feeling very full. We went back to our rooms to get our jackets before we left for the dances to find that the staff had made and arranged our bedding for the night. After the dances we had a few drinks in our room then off to sleep. It was one of the best sleeps we had had so far as the bedding was extremely comfortable and the room was warm and cosy. The Breakfast was very similar to dinner, but with only about 6 courses that were slightly different foods to the night before. We paid a little more for this ryokan than what we would have at the other one, but we all agreed that it was well worth the money. I would stay here again.
