- 898beny (10/5): Exceptional Hospitality - Il Sereno may very well have set the bar for hospitality and customer service in my opinion.
We were set to visit Il Sereno in April. Due to circumstances by Sereno Hotels, our reservations were moved to Villa d’Este two weeks prior to our arrival.
What happened over this next two weeks is why I am determined to come back and stay at Il Sereno. It’s one thing to have a beautiful hotel and facilities - but it’s the people that make you stay, and come back. I think customer service is really proved when things go wrong, not necessarily when they go right.
With just two weeks to go, we had a full itinerary set with Il Sereno. The concierge was brilliant at picking restaurants and setting a boat rental, along with plans for shopping and sightseeing. When it was determined that we were moving to Villa d’Este m, the concierge and guest relations team at Il Sereno worked tirelessly to confirm, relocate, and retool our itinerary. Keeping in mind that Villa d’Este is a larger hotel with a full service Guest Relations team, Il Sereno took complete ownership of our experience and managed to ensure our satisfaction - despite not staying with them. They communicated relentlessly with us, many times in the middle of the night, to make sure we were cared for.
The arrangements they made for us at Villa d’Este were above and beyond what we had planned for, and they made sure we had an unforgettable experience.
There is no doubt we will be back to Lake Como, and when we do it will be with Il Sereno. If you have any thought on where to stay - Il Sereno should be it.
Very special thanks to Giulia, Giorgia, and especially Claudio, who contacted me while on his vacation to ensure we were cared for. I can’t believe the lengths this team went to when presented with a problem, and their commitment to customer service and hospitality is unmatched.

- bwalsh6789 (10/5): Il Sereno is Special - We just finished a 6 night stay in Alcove Suite to finish our 2 week Italy & Switzerland trip and boy it was great way to end it. The hotel is uniquely special and it starts when you pull up and make the walk to the lobby. The resort is impeccable in every way and what sets it apart are the great people. We can’t say enough good things about all of the people who helped us and some special shoutouts to Dennis in the pool area, Federica in the spa and Leonardo the bread man on the wait staff. The room was just as described and twice a day mad service was just perfect. We used the spa twice for massage services and were at the pool every day. We also did a 6 hour boat tour with Fabrizio and took out the personal sized boats for 2 hours ourselves.
Breakfast every day at the restaurant or in our room was great and so many options. We did dinner 3 nights at Al Lago and it got better every night. There are some other choices where you can walk to Torno or get car service to Como or Blevio but it will cost you. Dinner option here at hotel or in your room will be better than going anywhere else.
Overall we cannot recommend this place more on lake como as far enough away from busy towns of Bellagio or Varenna but I would choose to stay here every day. Menaggio was our favorite town as more laid back and less crowded. Thanks to everyone here at the hotel that made our vacation special.
- Andrew (9/5): Amazing hotel, great staff, location and food. - Architecture, rooms, breakfast, location and great staff. I don’t want to complain but a slight damp smell in the corridor.

- Inspire25083388098 (10/5): Hotel review - I truly enjoyed my stay at Il Sereno. The hotel is modern, beautifully designed, and its strongest asset is the stunning location with breathtaking views over Lake Como. All rooms have lake views and feature spacious balconies, which is a major highlight. The design is contemporary and elegant.
The restaurant was a standout — both the food and the atmosphere were excellent. I especially appreciated the F&B team, who were highly professional and welcoming. Overall, the service across the hotel was of a high standard. Communication through WhatsApp with the hotel staff was smooth and helpful.
I also enjoyed the well-organized boat tour of the lake. Everything from check-in to departure was handled efficiently and with care.

- X6880CGjenniferd (10/5): Unforgettable 10 Year Anniversary Stay at Il Sereno - I’m still dreaming about our stay at Il Sereno and wishing we could return every year.
This hotel was a splurge for us, and I wasn’t sure if its minimalist style would feel truly luxurious. I was so wrong. Il Sereno’s understated design is paired with a level of comfort and beauty that feels effortlessly upscale. And the views? Absolutely priceless.
The staff made our stay even more special. With such an intimate property, we were able to get to know them, and their thoughtful touches made our 10-year anniversary unforgettable.
We had the privilege of experiencing both the Lario Suite and the Corner Suite—each spectacular in its own way. The Corner Suite offers sweeping views, but the Lario Suite wins for its massive closet (perfect for a longer stay!).
Thank you, Il Sereno, for an incredible experience. ❤️
PS—Ignore that one negative blog review floating around out there. It couldn’t be further from our experience.
- nina (10/5): The hotel is beyond your expectations - Absolutely everything It had to end

- Alan (10/5): Exceptional - This was the most expensive place I have ever stayed and it was worth every penny. The location on water is perfect. The hotel design is a art piece. The beds are comfy. The rooms are huge and great deck . The location is central to places to go. The spa is amazing. Room service was incredible. And the service and concierge was amazing. Can't recommend high enough
- Laura_travelexplorer (8/5): Design and style 10/10 - Without doubt this is a stunning hotel, beautifully designed. Probably the best hotel we have ever stayed terms of style. The view onto the lake from the room and the pool area
is stunning.
Staff were also really friendly, rooms well appointed with super comfy beds. The small Spa, separate to the main hotel, is peaceful and a lovely unique experience.
Why the 4 rating not 5, we came here for a luxury stay, expecting it to be the pinnacle of our Italian lakes trip. Unfortunately other hotel guests lack of consideration and ability to control their children, especially around the small pool area, impacted what could have been a perfect stay.
- Isabel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mihai (9/5): a warm feel of a "casa" and not of a hotel - sleeping "above" the lake with the window open it makes up for the name of the hotel - il sereno.
the staff was great, from the arrival in the parking lot (the romanian lady & gentleman very kind and welcoming), to the check in process which didn't feel like it, all the way to showing me to my room, the housekeeping ladies, the waiters and the very helping ones behind the whats app concierge. they all made it very cozy and familiar.
the cold champagne bottle upon my arrival meant more than the intended fine touch as it kicked in after a troubling start of the day.
the interior of the room is still maintained and doesn't feel worn out, at all, in spite of the traffic. it may need a more adventurous spirit in the kitchen in order to enhance the culinary experience of the dinner.
all decent with the food, yet nothing noticeable (not my first time there). not up to the bill's expectations.

From the breathtaking lake views to the elegant modern design, everything felt luxurious yet warm. The staff went above and beyond to make our honeymoon feel extra special, and every detail from the room to the dining was perfect. - 446erini (10/5): 10 year wedding anniversary experience - A once in a lifetime experience. From our first sighting walking down the driveway, every staff was so friendly and welcoming, immediately grabbing our luggage, offering water, cookies and fun drinks. Our room was stunning and so cozy. Room service was delicious and fun. The spa, heated pool, boat ride, views, dinner, cute town, private driver, wine cellar, you name it, amazing. Thank you for taking care of us so well for our 10 year wedding experience and helping us renew our vows and making it so special. Everyone made us feel #1
- Saud (9/5): Superb - The best in europe! wooow so expensive
- Mvuyolethu (10/5): Was the best birthday trip - Everything
- Mesned (10/5): Breathtaking - Facilities, style, cleanliness, views, attention to detail. Nothing
- bebopbirdC (4/5): Spectacular view but very underwhelming experience - I want to clarify before diving into this review that I’m not one of those overly critical travelers who sets out to write negative reviews. This is only my second review on TripAdvisor. When it comes to value for money, Il Sereno was the least satisfying of all the places we stayed during our two-week trip to Italy, even though we visited some very lovely hotels.
Upon arrival, we were immediately struck by the breathtaking mountain views of Lake Como, despite the rain. The staff was friendly, and we appreciated the welcome drinks in the lobby. The decor in the lobby and our room had the contemporary chic style I expected from Patricia Urquiola, and I particularly loved the full-slab stone sink and the heated floors, which were a nice touch in mid-September.
We discovered Il Sereno through extensive research and were drawn to its impressive accolades, including being named the #1 Resort in Europe by Travel + Leisure. However, our experience fell short, particularly when it came to dining. The restaurant’s offerings were disappointingly bland and the underwhelming experience stood at great juxtoposition to how beautiful the property was.
My wife and I chose the "*Omaggio Alla Tradizion*e" tasting menu for dinner, which features five courses of traditional local dishes. The first few dishes were mediocre, and the quality only declined from there. The rigatoni with artichokes consisted of just three pieces of pasta, while the first secondi, *filet de lavaret à la plancha,* was undercooked and had an off-putting fishy flavor, reminiscent of frozen fish. The second secondi, "osso bucco my way," was served lukewarm and tasted pre-prepared rather than freshly made. These dishes reminded me of business class airline food—prepared beforehand, reheated, and served without care.
Overall, the dining experience at Il Sereno was very disappointing; the chef seemed to lack creativity and attention to detail and didn't put too much thought into the combining and contrasting layers of textures, colors and shapes into the menu that would normally be expected at a Michelin restaurant. Simply downsizing typical restaurant dishes and labeling them as “gourmet” doesn’t create a true fine dining experience. I suspect that discerning travelers paying over €3000 a night would feel misled.
- Koshman (10/5): Exceptional -
- Samuel (10/5): Exceptional - Hotel is fantastic, apart from dinner in restaurant. See below Had the tasting menu for dinner. It was very mediocre at best. For 300 USD per person, it’s inexcusable.
Eat at Belvedere or Vapore, both a five minute walk. Great food and ambience at 1/4 the price of Il Sereno .
- Giuseppe (10/5): Exceptional! - Exceptional hotel in every respect! Staff went above and beyond. Truly special. Nothing
- Karen (10/5): Perfect relaxing retreat on lake Como!! - So serene. Beautiful views. Amazing architecture and attention to every detail by staff. The concierge service was top notch. Highly recommend for a relaxing trip to Lake Como. Food is a star at this hotel as well.

- F3704XMverad (10/5): Amazing stay with breathtaking views - We stayed at il Sereno for about four days and we had amazing stay. The staff both at breakfast and at dinner was exceptional. The views of Lake Como is absolutely breathtaking. Definitely would go back and stay at this luxurious hotel. One day we took a boat ride of lake and the surrounding villages. Very memorable experience

- Javaria (10/5): The highlight of my trip to Como - This place is incredible. Everyone is extremely friendly, the service was incredible. I’m definitely coming back with more friends and family. It was worth the price. I ordered breakfast to the room and it was laid out beautifully. I can’t emphasise how amazing the staff were. As a food lover, the portion of chips I ordered by the poolside were very small for me. For the future there should be a small and large option.
- Bhupen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yin (8/5): Very good - The design and view . The air-conditioning is not good
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - The service blew our minds. It was was incredible- the view, location, spa amenities, everything was incredible. We loved everything.
- Gary (10/5): We loved your hotel! Thank you for such a lovely stay. - Breakfast incredible, loved our coffee delivered every morning to our room. loved the fresh squeezed orange juice.
Wait staff was incredible and kind for all services. Fancy dinner prix fix not really our thing, we ordered off a limited menu. Room service mostly for the evenings, although food arrived not very hot most evenings. Room service food just ok...very expensive for value of food..
- K9453BSstever (6/5): The Room Rate ($2,600 a night) sets a High Bar, And The Hotel Comes Short - This was our second visit and we were expecting the same perfection as last time but were disappointed. Maybe we should have heeded my mother-in-law's advice about all things in life...you can never go back! Here are some pros and cons:
The Room (We were placed in the new section completed after our last visit. The smallest room has gotten smaller with limited closet space, but an outstanding direct view of the lake. This room had a musty smell. The welcome champagne and snacks were outstanding).
The Concierge (Yannis and his team are terrific and they quickly pulled together a four-hour private boat trip of the Lake and its villas. A real highlight. Also, they moved dining reservations in and out of the hotel on a dime).
Food and beverage: A shout out to the bartender that has been there since the beginning...he makes an amazing martini. The restaurant now has a Michelin star, but the food now has that international you could be anywhere taste. Some of the breakfast extras that made it special (e.g. the donut cart, beautifully cut fruit, etc.) are gone. The morning offering pales against other top luxury breakfast buffets in Italy. Have breakfast on your terrace and the view will be your treat. Also, the team at the pool is over-whelmed ...not asking if you'd like a drink, forgetting your order, etc. Two charming but young apprentice workers are part of the team and the crowds have them beat. By adding the new section of rooms the hotel added more chaise lounges, so its crowded.
The other guests: This is beyond any hotel's control, but the people around you define an experience. When we were there, yelling unsupervised small children dominated the pool one afternoon and the breakfast area the following morning. Many outside restaurant visitors and hotel guests are often positioned in your view doing social-media photo shoots. The amount of luxury brand swag can allow you to go on a safari and "bag" the big 5... Hermes, Loewe, Dior, Prada and Fendi .. in the first walk through the lobby. Il Sereno is no longer the chic low-key hideaway that built its reputation. But everyone on staff works hard to make it special. The setting, gardens, architecture are tops. And the rates keep climbing.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful staff. Among the best in well over 50 trips to Europe. Lovely room. Excellent food. Fitness center was modern but too small. Very expensive to get around.
- K3620HAjonathanh (10/5): A Truly Exceptional Stay at Il Sereno - I recently spent a weekend at Il Sereno at Lago di Como, booking it as soon as they won the Condé Nast Gold List number 1. I was both excited and a bit worried if the hype was real, especially since it was one of the priciest hotels we planned to stay at this summer. I was torn between choosing Il Sereno, Grand Hotel Tremezzo, or Mandarin Oriental.
Let me say that Il Sereno has truly earned its award.
This was the best hotel we stayed at this year. Even during the peak holiday season when the hotel was fully booked, it never felt crowded. The rooms were spectacular, the food was perfect, and the service was so exceptional that it felt like home.
I loved it, my kids loved it, and we all had an amazing time.
Thank you, Il Sereno. We look forward to coming back soon.

- Phoebe (10/5): Elegant luxury, not pretentious but super swanky and just an incredibly luxe experience - The heated pool is top notch, complimentary paddle boards and bookable spa was incredible. The staff and ability to craft luxury agendas and boats, etc. was fabulous and convenient. The design of the hotel is unparalleled and modern magic. Loved it The restaurant was way too expensive for the food we got. Least favorite part of the experience!
- Philipp (6/5): Beautiful view but not worth the money, 2 star service - The location and view of this property are wonderful. Parking is a plus. The cost is not worth it. Housekeeping did a poor job with stocking our room. Many requests need to be made instead of providing needed items (for example our beautiful soaking tub had nothing to add to the water, we had to request… we also had to request a robe and tea to be replaced). There were also issue with taking more than 10 minutes for the water to get hot in the room. The food at the hotel is mediocre and the restaurant service was appalling! They don’t deserve a star.
- TravelingMD1 (10/5): Il Sereno - best of the best, no question. - I'm sitting here from the pool of Il Sereno, thinking about our 4 day stay. This is the best hotel in which we have every stayed. My wife and I are relatively frequent luxury travelers and have stayed in many places that make "best of" lists, but Il Sereno tops them all. First, the property is simply stunning. The architecture is breathtaking, as is the landscaping and setting. The beds are dreamy comfortable, the room understated, natural elegance. Breakfasts are delicious and were included with our platinum amex card we used for the reservation. More than anything though, it is the service that sets this hotel apart. Last night we were coming back from dinner in Lugano, and the valet to park our car (who I don't believe we had yet met) opened the car door for my wife and asked "how was the evening in Lugano?" Just a simple question, but underscores how on top of it the entire staff is. At poolside if you finish a water, the non-fussy attendant comes and inquires if you'd like another, in an unobtrusive, helpful way. I don't think I've ever seen a staff member here not smiling. We have frequently communicated with guest relations via what's app, and they are like fairy angles, organizing last minute bites at Villa D'este (so glad we're staying here instead), moving reservations for dinner a bit later. My wife, who refuses to go back to the same place twice because she always wants to be trying new things/places, has declared that Il Sereno is the one place she wants to come back to, and soon. I don't have enough superlatives. Ok, back to reading my book poolside.
- Ad (10/5): The hotel is absolute perfection. they gave me an upgrade with an amazing view. the staff were very sweet and helpful ev - The hotel is absolute perfection. they gave me an upgrade with an amazing view. the staff were very sweet and helpful everywher. they made my stay so woderful. its the only hotel in como that lets you rent a boat and drive which was really amazing. nothing
- Shane (10/5): The best hotel EVER! - Honestly it was just divine! I fell in love from the moment I arrived. The service in every way was just incredible! I have already recommended to many clients and friends. Nothing to dislike.
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional -
- 869maureenm (10/5): Truly spectacular - Easily one of the best, if not the best, hotel in which I have ever stayed. The design of the entire property is outstanding. It is extremely modern, but yet also has a cozy feel. The entire staff is hospitable, warm, friendly, yet not intrusive at all. Rarely does a hotel have such a friendly staff in all areas (bar, restaurant, pool, spa, reception) but somehow they have done it. I strongly recommend getting a room with a balcony; we had breakfast in our room (there's no extra charge if it's included in your room rate) and ate it on the balcony which was a real treat.
We also booked a package with the hotel (rather than going through Amex) as it honestly was a better deal - it included a tasting menu (and wine pairing!) at their restaurant. I still remember the pasta course! The restaurant is fancy, but not stuffy. I think it's worth going to at least once.
I also really appreciated the healthy food options at the bar/casual restaurant. Sometimes you just want a salad for lunch! They have a delicious, perfectly balanced Nicoise salad that I had multiple times.
The only downside has nothing to do with the hotel specifically: Lake Como, wherever you go, is very expensive. Cabs are not reliable, so you have to arrange a car service or boat to other towns. I was extremely content to stay on the property, given everything I've written here. We are already thinking about returning next year!
- لمى (10/5): Amazing experience - Everything was spectacular Nothing

- NYCtravel (8/5): Beautiful views, great service. - The hotel is very modern, very unlike the other hotels in the area. This was the last hotel on our itinerary and we loved the clean lines and simplicity. Service was fantastic. Definitely get the room with the view directly onto the lake. The pool is wonderful and serene (except read below). Breakfast and lunch at the hotel were both great. Rent the boat and drive around the lake, we had a great time doing it.
Word of warning, as this hotel is quite small, you will interact with the other guests, sometimes more than you might like. On our last day there, two couples arrived, both completely sick. They proceeded to sit out at the pool, on either side of us coughing sneezing and cleaning out their noses. UGH. Unfortunately due to the size of the pool and area, there is really no where else to go if you want to enjoy the pool! So great if you are lucky with the other guests, but may be problematic.

- W9309WHmichaelb (10/5): Unforgettable - Il Sereno delivered! Small, newish hotel with modern, spacious, luxurious rooms, all overlooking beautiful Lake Como. Staff to guest ratio VERY favorable. And staff is delightful. High end restaurant is excellent. If we have a "complaint", it's that we just couldn't make ourselves (we were with our 10 year old daughter) do the fine dining experience every night. We took a guided boat tour of the lake one day with an outside operator, something we'd recommend. Highly recommended: reserve one of the hotel's motor boats for a couple of hours and take it out yourself. It was a trip highlight.
