Guest Reviews
- Zuzana (6/5): - It’s a great place for a couple or a family with quiet children. Room had rather old fashioned equipment. Finding a switch was like looking for a needle in a haystack. But the views were fantastic, onsen (gender separated), was really nice, food was ok. Oh and I enjoyed the yukata and massage chairs!
- Janine (6/5): - Property is a bit dated. Staff were efficient but not overly welcoming. The atmosphere was inhospitable.
This was the only property out of of all places we stayed at in Japan where we were required to wear plastic gloves in the dining area. The gloves werent latex and because they were plastic, it made it dangerous picking up plates etc.
- Thomas (8/5): -
- Timothy (6/5): - The hotel is very dated, the staff appeared unwelcoming and constantly masked up. The hotel decoration is from the 70's, you had to leave your shoes in reception and wear slippers.
It's the only place I've been asked to wear gloves to obtain food from the breakfast buffet. The breakfast food was fine, fresh fruit, croissants, scrambled eggs, fish were all available but curry for breakfast was a first for me.
Overall it was a bit odd.
On the positive side, the room had a nice view over the lake, was a nice size and the bedding was clean.
- Hyunhak (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hui Kwai (8/5): - VeryGood
- Tsz (10/5): Exceptional - Nice view, breakfast and dinner
They provide welcome drinks and alot more The view is a bit blocked
- Gabriele (7/5): Good -
- Kt. (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jason (9/5): Relaxing place to stay. - Supportive and friendly staff. Hot Spring is good.
- Wolfe (9/5): A pleasant stay and value for your money. - Great staff, good location. Great view.
- Gwyn (9/5): good location to visit 5 lakes. need to go out to get view of Mount Fuji - the massage machine and was close to rope way, on a bus route and walking distance to station the view from lower floors obstructed by trees
- Lim (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ed (9/5): Perfect location, clean, friendly and enjoyable stay - Great spread of items. Lots of western choices to suit all tastes. Nothing. A lovely stay.
- Stevanus (9/5): Superb -
- Llskywalker21ll (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hiew (6/5): Pleasant -
- Pmy888 (8/5): Beautiful full lake view - Cruise on lake in morning gave us perfect view of mt Fuji. This hotel is accessed by a slope or 2 flights of stairs so not suited to less mobile people. Room was spacious and had 3 beds. Onsen included. Breakfast ok. Beware the hand basins are set really low so tallish people might get back pains from using it. I'm short and still found it too low to be comfortable.
- IanF24 (8/5): Great views of Lake Kawaguchiko - This is a lovely hotel on the side of the hill overlooking Lake Kawaguchiko. It is difficult to get too with no access for buses. You have to carry all your luggage to the hotel. The staff at the hotel are very helpful as we arrived very late, about 8.30 pm but still provided us with a very good buffet dinner. The hotel insists that all guests leave their shoes in lockers provided at the front door. Slippers are provided to walk around inside the hotel.
All rooms appear to look out over the lake which was very good early morning.
The hotel also has public hot baths but I did not try. Breakfast was very good with a deal of western food available. Would stay again if in the area.
- 393steffenl (4/5): Expensive - Way to expensive compared to what you get. There is a nice view from the rooms, but all in all everything looks old and worn out. Even though we were at breakfast one hour before it closed almost everything was gone, the was milk warm and the staff not willing to bring anything new in.
Definitely not a place I would recommend at all!
- Anniewhatto (8/5): Nice Hotel with great Views - Stayed here for 1 night whilst on a tour & it was great, we went into the indoor hot spring bath which was a lovely experience, the view of the lake from our room was lovely, we walked down the Main Street to a cute little pizza/pasta restaurant & had dinner, as you walk down the street from Hotel it is on your right, the view of the lake at night is really pretty, there is a cable car ride right next to the Hotel it was closed when we were there but apparently you can see Mt Fuji from up the top, it is a 45 min drive from here to Mt Fuji 5th station & the scenery on the way is spectacular.
- Vburela (8/5): Great views. - A lovely hotel but in need of some updating. Rooms were very spacious and clean. Only stayed one night and would have liked to stay longer as I didn't have a chance to enjoy hot spring spa. No bar just vending machines with beer.
- Sarah (10/5): Stunning View and Fantastic Food - This hotel was my favourite experience in Japan. The most striking feature is the view of Lake Kawaguchi upon entering the room. The room is also spacious and you are supplied with a yukata to wear inside the hotel. This adds to the experience of immersing yourself in the culture. The whole hotel can only be navigated in the supplied house slippers (shoes left in lobby).
The parts that stood out to me was the food we had for breakfast and dinner (half-board). I always left too full to move! The food was supplied to the table, but you could also grab food from the buffet. It was a feast.
The onsen was also fantastic. However, I went when the hotel wasn't busy (December) so I always had the onsen to myself. The massage chairs and cold tea was a good touch.
The staff are very friendly with sufficient English.
- GaryPeh (8/5): Good view of the lake and Amenities. Good services! - This hotel provides free shuttles to and fro from Hotel and Kawaguchiko Station. If you decides to walk, it is only about 15 minutes. This Hotel has a public Onsen, Massage Chairs, KTV rooms, huge lounge area etc for guests to relax in. There are many eateries and supermarket within walking distances too. I will definitely come back here again.
- Suzanne (10/5): Great view of Lake Kawaguchiko - Although the hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk from the Kawaguchiko Station, we could have taken the Red Line bus (covered by the passes) from the station to the Kawaguchiko rope way which shares the same ramp (the white building in the first photo is the hotel). The view from the hotel room is stunning (second photo).
As in Hakone, you have to pay a 300 yen onset tax.
The staff do not speak English well, but they were friendly and tried to help.
If you ask them ahead of time, they can drive you to the Kawaguchiko station after you check out.
- EllieandSherlock (6/5): Just ok - It's a very old hotel and on entering you have to take off your shoes and wear their slippers which are not good! The rooms themselves are very basic with the continuance of single beds! I wonder how Japanese sleep if they only have single beds! The view was good; the breakfast not so much! The floor was very sticky and it took them forever to replenish items that had run out in the meals room. They have a traditional onsen which is really strange for westerners to use. Wouldn't go back.
- hofwhix (2/5): The view was good. End of story. - This is an establishment which is one step up from a youth hostel.
On arrival we were given grubby used slippers to wear.
The arrivals area was very seedy & reception staff unhelpful.
The room was very dated with the curtails being held up by brown parcel tape.
There was no water for a time in the morning & when it came back on it was brown. Staff not interested in sorting this problem.
In the dining area our shoes stuck to the floor by the buffet as the floor was so dirty.
Our rooms were not serviced nor beds made.
Food was acceptable.
When we went to pay the bill we were asked for cash as there was no credit card machine which was a lie.
- Lachlan72 (6/5): Not bad, but a bit tired - Clean and comfortable. Staff have limited English but try their best. Excellent location right next to the cable car and with views of the lake. Lovely food in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner. Men's and women's onsen on the second floor. TV channels are Japanese only. A good hotel in a local Japanese style and clean too.
- Mrs_Me_Myself_And_I (4/5): Unfortunately it was the worse experience of our trip... - Two stars might be too much... Don't even know where to start with this hotel... Let's start with the good things... The staff was very nice, the location is really good and the communal baths were decent... But this hotel is literally falling apart... Towels on the corridors to soak the dripping water from the radiators, panels hiding walls falling apart, humidity in the bedrooms, bad smell because of the humidity and bugs (dead and alive) in the bedroom... The restaurant as sticky floors and needs cleaning and the food is not good... Feel really sad to be giving this review, because the staff was really really nice... But this place needs works urgently...
- hops1168 (6/5): Very old Resort - Room is big but the toilet facilities look very old, smelly when we just first walk in the room.
no much customer in the resort.
during 2 days stay... only saw lobby have 1 staff but very friendly.
reasonable breakfast.
- AbuA766 (6/5): Retro Chic! - You pretty much know what to expect from here. It's very traditional, shoes are taken off at reception, and you're provided with slippers for your stay.
We were only here for a night, and its a very simple hotel, and much of its decor is a throw back to years gone by, very beige! Though it is a pleasant change from the bustling city stays, The view out the window over the lake is stunning, and is almost worth visiting the hotel for that!
They do have hot baths if you are interested, along with a small gift shop and lounge.
The local area itself is very quite, we walked around at 8 in the evening, and the town was silent! Apart from the one convenience store. Though it does give a nice insight into what rural japan looks like.
The morning view is spectacular though, the lakeside location with the mountains, and the forest up in the hills behind it
- BuffyRocks (6/5): Basic hotel next to a cable car - We stayed here as part of a tour. The bus couldn't access the drive so we had to walk up a steep hill by foot. The hotel is next to a cable car ride which takes you up to see good views of Mount Fuji.
The hotel served a Japanese meal in the evening to our tour party and a buffet breakfast the next morning. The quality of food was poor for both meals.
The rooms were very basic and suitable for just one night. The rooms are small but the views from the room of the lake were good - not a view of Mount Fuji though.
Don't expect this to be a luxury hotel.
- mieppus (6/5): Hotel needs maintenance - We stayed here for one night on our way to Tokio. The view on the lake from the 6th floor is amazing but and the room we hat was very specious but everything is somewhat run down. The breakfast buffet was okay nothing special if your not in to Azien breakfast.
- DioEkapoj (8/5): Well centre and nice view - The hotel is located right next to the Kawaguchiko Ropeway so it is easy to find. To access from the station, if arrived later than 5pm please take the taxi, the fare should be around 750-900 yen per trip. For bus fare it is a sightseeing bus available for 2 days consecutively at 1,200 yen per person. Consider to get this if you plan to stay around for two days.
The room is a bit dated but clean, spacious and comfortable, the view overlooking the lake is stunning. No minibar provided. However, vending machines for beer and softdrinks are available on the second floor.
Onsen is located on the second floor, the men's room is written in blue and ladies is in red. Yukata and towels are provided in your room. The onsen is moderate but offer a nice view of the lake, sauna room is also available.
Be sure to book dinner plan as the cafes around the area is closed quite early so you might need to rely on Lawson located 5 minutes down the road.
The wifi is free but sometime can be unstable.
The breakfast serves from 7am-9am, the offerings are of the standard of 3-star hotel covering most basic items.
Reception is very friendly but English is pretty limited. There is a closing time for front office so please check beforehand.
- Truediamond (8/5): A welcome change from Station 8.5 on Fuji - We stayed here on a tour both for one night before and two nights after going up Mount Fuji so have no idea of price or value. Certainly, after the experience of 100 to a room at Station 8.5, anything would be an improvement. The Hotel has lovely views of the Lake and is located just next to the cable car but has no views of Fuji at all. Rooms are quite large but are more than a little dated. Our group came down from the mountain well before lunchtime but the hotel stuck rigidly to its policy of no room before 3pm. This was also the only Hotel on our tour where rooms weren't mad up on a daily basis. The onsen and sauna were both welcome, if a little dated again. Breakfast was reasonable but staff had difficulty keeping coffee pots filled up.
The area is very quiet indeed with a few good eating places about 10-15 minutes walk away, not far from the station. The whole place reminded me of a bus trip destination in the Southern Lakes.
- MLSpencer (6/5): A base for Mount Fuji - The area is a little bit scruffy and very quiet in the evening with nothing to see or do. The sound of motorbikes was annoying. The hotel is okay but not of the same standard of the others on our tour. Not sure why we had to use the slip on shoes which in my mind are an unnecesary inconvenience and a health hazard. Didn't get to use the public bath. A fellow tour member thought the instructions were for the bathroom facilities. He thought such etiquette was most strange. Not sure about the monkey crossing the garden..reading it up on the internet they apparently can be aggressive. As we didn't come actually face to face I couldn't comment.
- dinov817 (6/5): Your average hotel with a nice view - A nice and small hotel with a nice view of the lake. The restaurant also serves an amazing dinner with an average breakfast selection. Rooms are small which is normal for Japan, the only complaint I have is that you have to call to turn the heater/air con on or off.
