Guest Reviews
- David (6/5): - Parking was easy. Pleasant, quiet surroundings; however, the rooms needed attention regarding dusting and cleaning.
- Kathleen (10/5): - The surrounding trees and stream in the back make this property my choice over others every time I come here. The price is reasonable and rooms are clean and comfortable.
- Peter (10/5): - A great place to stay in the Catskills at a reasonable price point.
- Hanna (8/5): - one thing that I do not like it this property is to close to the street.
- Kathleen (10/5): - I always enjoy my stay here. It's clean with a nicely appointed room and beautiful surrounding area.
- Kalib (10/5): - I liked that the inn was small, reasonably priced, and the area was tranquil. Nice area for stargazing.
- Ryan (8/5): - Great place. Would definitely stay again.
- YO HAN (8/5): - Good location. Friendly staff. Comfy bed. Clean room. Fast internet.
- kathleen (10/5): - This is a beautiful property with well appointed clean rooms in the Catskills.
- Andy (10/5): Great getaway - Black Bear lodge is a great getaway and excellent base to explore the area as it’s so central. We had excellent communication ahead of our check in, a real warm welcome and helpful with dining tips.
The room was spacious and comfortable.
The lodge is just off the main road but if we heard a car we didn’t notice, it’s so quiet around there.
The place is ideal if you’re looking to escape a few days, there was fresh coffee and pastries in the morning and loads of free parking.
thanks for your hospitality 👍
- Lisa (10/5): - Owner was very nice and room was comfortable and clean.
- Bob (10/5): - As a little motel close to a festival venue, the Black Bear Lodge was just what I was looking for. I was prepared for it to be small and basic and for the decor to be somewhat dated. What I found was a motel that was clean, quiet, and very comfortable. The innkeeper was delightful. I would stay there again.
- Lisa (8/5): - Friendly owner who was very helpful. Continental breakfast was included. Bed was comfortable.
- kathleen (10/5): - The room was very clean and well appointed with a fridge and microwave. Great tv selections for watching tv at night. There's a beautiful stream in the back of the property and you can enjoy coffee, fruit or cereal out on the patio in front of your room. There's a short drive to Prattsville Diner and Jim's All American supermarket.
- Riazul (10/5): - Amazing hospitality. Cozy room, short distance from Hunter Mt., and great view of the creek from the room. Will definitely return!
- George (10/5): - Comfortable, rustic, peaceful accommodations. Very friendly and welcoming. Would recommend again.
- Kylie (10/5): - Black Bear Lodge is the perfect place to lay your head at night after a long day of hiking and outdoor adventures! The host was very kind as she provided light breakfast each morning (fruit, tea, coffee, muffins, croissants, bottled water), and checked in with us to make sure our stay was going well. I would definitely stay here again when I am in the area!
- Anastasiia (8/5): - Picturesque location, very close to a road though.
Reasonably clean, bed is comfy. Would’ve given it 5 stars if they had 2 pillows per person.
- Oksana (8/5): - We stayed in Black Bear Lodge for the second time. We like calm, barbecue place, morning coffee and croissants. Thank you, Kim!
- kathleen (10/5): - What a wonderful property. A stream and some hiking are in the back. It's clean and efficient with a fridge, microwave and flat screen tv with plenty of channels. Wifi is available to make calls or work on your laptop, but who wants to do that in this beautiful area. Close to skiing in Hunter/Tannersville area for the winter. An older property, but I love that.
- Nancy (10/5): - Pleasant, no wifi was the only negative! Kim met specific needs I had! She went above and beyond! Thanks so much, Kim!
- vincent (8/5): - Great
- Aditael (8/5): - Most of the hotels and inns around there require 2-nights stay, but not this property. Not over the top, just clean, comfortable, and cheap. 12min sway from the ski resort and restaurants.
- Benjamin (10/5): - This is a classic, retro roadside hotel high in the Catskill Mountains. Rustic and very simple but clean and cozy. Kim the hostess is charming. Beautiful surroundings. Convenient to skiing, hiking, fishing.
- Amy (10/5): - The motel is very cute & had a mini kitchen. River running through the back yard. Easy to find. Free breakfast. We had a great stay & will definitely visit again!
- Diana (4/5): - Room was clean but the outside was old and dirty. Tv was located in corner behind the bed so you cant watch from bed. No comfortable chairs to sit in. We checked out a day early because of this
- Gregory (8/5): - The creek was right behind the property. I liked the complimentary breakfast and coffee. The room was clean. The bathroom had a leaky faucet. Overall, a very pleasant stay.
- Pamela (8/5): - Black Bear Lodge is cute affordable and clean. Staff Kim was very sweet and helpful
- Ian (8/5): - Warm and friendly staff. Clean room. Small breakfast included. Access to gorgeous section of river behind property for those who can climb a steep hill.
- Steven (8/5): - Overall a pleasant stay
- Ralph (10/5): - The office staff are great people!
- catherine (10/5): - Your typical motel. Small room but doable. The clerk was very nice and pleasant. She had breakfast ready in the morning, muffin and fruit, in a brown paper bag for us to pick up at the office. Had coffee for guests. Towels were very nice, they were not your usual sandpaper towels, they were heavy and plush. The only bad thing was there was no outlet in the bathroom.
- Nicholas (10/5): - The hostess/owner is amazingly friendly and accommodating!
- Joan (8/5): Great place to lay your head - Low budget but comfortable and clean and thats what matters...the rooms are exactly as pictured but the ground are not...the creek is quite a walk down through the woods (but worth the trip) no firepit with seating. Breakfast was coffee and a muffin but that was fine. Owner was lovely and helpful. Will definitely be back.
- Lorraine (8/5): - Clean and rustic. No electric outlet in bathroom. Nice breakfast included. Very friendly and helpful staff.
- alisha (8/5): - Well maintained safe property
- Ben (10/5): Quiet and Peaceful - We loved our stay at Black Bear Lodge! It was everything we expect it to be and more. Thank you so much for having us.

- Marianne (10/5): - Clean room and comfy beds. Coffee and lite breakfast provided. Friendly staff. Overall, a good value motel. Would stay here, again.
- Jamie (8/5): - Black bear lodge was a great experience. For the price, the location and the accommodations were perfect. The room was very affordable and close to the mountain, everything was very clean and the staff at check in was very pleasant. We stayed in room 2 and the room was bigger than expected since we were expecting a standard motel room size. The beds were comfortable and smelled clean (even the comforter seemed clean which is very rare especially for motels). There was a little area by the front door in the room for your skis/snowboard and ski gear. The room had a microwave and a mini fridge as well as a kitchen table for two! If you are looking for an affordable trip the Catskills/Hunter mountain this is great spot to stay!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Stay was good with late check in due to weather.
- Charlotte (10/5): - Accommodations were better than expected for the price. Very clean. 10 - 15 minutes to town, but we expected the drive.
- Kathleen (10/5): - I love that this is one of those old-fashioned motels with real keys to the room. It's in a quiet property. You can go around back to sit or eat outdoors. It's very picturesque at a more-than-reasonable price.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Nice staff, continental breakfast , beautiful surroundings
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I liked the chairs and table in the room as well as the ceiling fan. Comfortable beds.
I didn't like the toilet - too low, or the sink - too low and a very short faucet.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Owner called us to check on arrival time and stayed up late to greet us. Very nice when we arrived. Immaculate, spotless room, despite somewhat worn facility. Nice breakfast available to bring to our room. Delicious muffin! Breathtaking scenery right behind motel on the river. Room equipped with everything we needed, including kitchenette. Will definitely stay again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Facilities are a bit run down but ok for a short stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Enjoyed sitting around small fire in the evening and listening to the nearby creek as I fell asleep and woke.
Small, simple, clean, accommodations.
Friendly and helpful staff.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Clean and cozy room. The staff was great. There was no coffee in the room, but Kim gave me my own coffee maker, coffee, cream and sugar. It was very cold so an electric heater was provided which kept me toasty warm. Bed was comfy.
The water pressure was lame. A fresh coat of paint would make a big difference and window blinds were worn and dusty. However, all in all it was a very nice stay. Great value for the money. I will stay again.
- Colleen (8/5): - It was cute and in a pretty area of New York. Because of Covid they didnt have a traditional continental breakfast but we were given drinks and fruit and croissants which were delicious
- Kate (10/5): - I liked that the location is peaceful and full of trees. The night sky view from the back of the property is amazing. You never get to see that view anywhere near a lit up town or city.
- Graham (8/5): - It is well situated in the Catskills to visit the foliage
The kitchenette was clean and in good working order
- Heather (10/5): - The management was very friendly and accommodating! The rooms were very clean and the location is perfect when driving to the surrounding towns and major hiking trails. We would definitely stay here again!
- jeanne (10/5): - Friendly staff, clean room, felt like home. Looking forward to our next stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Beautiful river in the back. Friendly owner. Nice location.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Locally owned lodge at a good price. The facilities were clean and cozy. The staff was friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very clean, warm and comfortable. much nicer on the insise than ot looks from the road.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very friendly staff, neat room setup, overall a very happy customer.
- Verified traveler (6/5): So So - Beds very hard. No water pressure. Television in odd location. Do do
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The Lodge was very cozy! The staff were very nice and helpful. All of our needs were met. We would definitely stay here again.
- Unhappy (2/5): - There were no basic amenities such as a microwave. There was a door from my room into the front desk. In the morning you can hear all the noise from people having breakfast.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Quaint efficient spot with gracious service and a beautiful babbling brook flowing outside.
- Rachel (10/5): Felt like home! - We loved our experience! The owner was extremely thoughtful and the room so clean and felt like home. The nature surrounding the lodge - right in the back yard - just adds to the experience! We will definitely be back!
- Marguerite (10/5): nice quiet stay - very nice host. Room clean and comfortable. wifi and cable tv nice touch. Bed comfy.Continental breakfast included bagels, muffins, oatmeal, cheerios and fruit. Oj and coffee.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Kim was so friendly and made us feel welcome. The room was basic and clean, and provided us with everything we needed. Breakfast was better than the typical continental type, and in a room that had a very cool fireplace. I imagine in the winter it is especially cozy to come to in the morning.
The hosts were welcoming and helpful, the rooms were clean and comfortable, the lodge was easy to find, and the breakfast was great.
