Guest Reviews
- Ann (4/5): The pricing is fair, the rooms are air conditioned and clean, support staff kind and helpful, but sadly the owner is har - Good location in the village, clean. We’ve stayed here in the past. This is a basic room but clean and air conditioned. And knew what was supposed to be supplied. Missing towels, no blankets for at night, a drip for water pressure in the shower. No bottled water supplied, when most lodging places in the village do offer this now. We had difficulty with the owner understanding some issues that arose that caused us to have to leave, and no refund was considered due to their part in the issues. We didn’t feel heard or considered.
- Alexander (9/5): A simple, clean hotel that meets all your needs in Hopkins - This is a small, quiet property at the south end of Hopkins. It’s clean and well-maintained. There is one balcony right in front of the rooms facing the ocean and another larger balcony just below it, so there is plenty of space for sitting and enjoying the evening breeze. The air conditioning is freezing, so no worries there! The hot water is what it is—electric shower head heaters, so don’t expect to linger in a steam bath. Excellent WiFi. It’s simple, clean, and makes a great base camp for your daily excursions! Nothing!
- Marc (8/5): - Rose was lovely and the room was great. Could have done with more blankets we didn't need the Aircon.
- Nikolas (10/5): -
- Robert (8/5): -
- Heather (8/5): Good spot near the coffee shop and beach access. - Really great staff. Wayne is very helpful and kind.
Room stays cool. Decent sized fridge with ice box.
Beach access and walking distance for the few things town has to offer. Not a lot in Hopkins to do.
Wish there was some kind of blankets but only a sheet on the bed is provided. I had 2 beds and just myself do pulled the other sheet off to help.
- Luis (6/5): - The shower pressure was way too little. He could have provided a blanket for warmth.
- gray (10/5): You will not want to leave. - The property is well maintained with outdoor space including three patio decks, parking and a mowed grassy area. The beach is about 30 yards from the back yard. The hosts are knowledgeable about tours and other places of interest around Hopkins.
The rooms are clean and comfortable.
The location is convenient for restaurants, grocery stores and gourmet coffee shops.
The hosts are very kind and friendly. Sugar Patch has been my favorite place in Belize and it is difficult to leave this tranquil environment.
- Katie (8/5): Lovely hosts and a comfortable stay - Good location at the quiet end of the Main Street. Lovely hosts and comfortable facilities. Shower could have been warmer but that’s usual for C America.
- Rasheedah (1/5): Horrible customer service - The staff has horrible customer service The staff double booked my room and gave it to someone else
- Janice (9/5): Wayne is a great host. Quiet location with sea view and beach access - Quiet
Great beach access It is a bit of a walk to the village center
- Graham (1/5): Do NOT pay anything extra, the owner cannot be trusted. - Scam alert SCAM Alert:
We booked through this booking app; price was $USD621 + $78 fees and taxes, so about $700. When we arrived, they demanded $200 more, CASH ONLY, for additional taxes plus booking fees. Our $700 price had turned into $900.
I paid, but later realized this shouldn’t have happened. I asked five times for a formal invoice of all amounts paid, but they wouldn’t provide one. Then they changed their story, said $100 or the extra $200 was a refundable deposit. Only when the police were called did they finally return all my money.
- Hunter (2/5): Not happy - The hotel host was very nice and did what she could with her limited resources. I'm not quite sure why she couldn't offer us another room though. It has a nice porch and view. The place is extremely overpriced for what it is. The beds were very uncomfortable, the television didn't work, lighting was too poor to read by, only cold water at sink. We paid for 2 nights in advance and left after 1 night, no refund. We cut our trip short because of these poor accomodations. This place is worth half of what is charged.
- Denise (7/5): Great beach but owner is a bit challenging - View, proximity to shops, restaurants, and beach No drinking water, no housekeeping, owner sharing the same common area with his phone and tablet on speaker
- Patricia (10/5): Exceptional - We really enjoyed staying at Wayne’s sweet hotel. He took fantastic care of me and my son during our stay in Hopkins. Thank you! Our stay was too short!
- Calbert (2/5): - Upon checking in the owner was nasty and rude and disrespectful, I would not recommend this place, it smells horrible and the room was dirty.
- Teresa (6/5): Pleasant -
- Irene (9/5): Superb - Breakfast was delicious every day. Owner was kind & accommodating. hammock was amazing
- Kenneth (2/5): Buyer beware - This place...arrived in room and it was over 100° in the room. I asked the check in clerk if they had a fan and he stated "we don't provide them". I went to a local store to buy a fan, only to be told that it was not "allowed" in the room (apparently the owner watchesnthe camera from his home in Texas and called the on-site manager). The A/C does not keep up with the demand of the room so it was very hot all night. We checked out the following morning.
- Kevin (10/5): Will stay again in future - Great location on Outskirts of Hopkins.
Close walk to Beach Wayne talked to much….Lol
He’s a great Listener🤡
Loved everything about Sugar Patch. Would recommend
- Skilly (8/5): Very good - Lovely spot, breakfast was good, beach two minutes walk away. Has pretty much everything you need, and a decent value for Hopkins. A little on the south end of town so have to walk a bit (~10m) to town and the grocery stores, but no real biggie.
- Carol (10/5): Sweet Sugar! - Wayne was a great host, helpful and so personable. Sugar Patch is very close to the beach and we used one of Wayne's double kayaks for half a day. He also provided us with a ride to catch the bus. A great place! Sugar Patch is right on the highway so the road noise was noticeable.
- Yvonne (4/5): - For the prices we paid, the room was small. If we wanted to watch tv we would have to plug the mini refrigerator out by to plug in the tv. When we ask for the AC remote we were told it an extra $20 a night for AC. The shower had very low pressure and the shower head need to be clean.
- Catherine (5/5): Not worth the money - other nearby hotels that were better equipped and located were charged less per night - The owner was nice and kind offering us a drink the first night as we were upset by an uncomfortable taxi experience. The location- right in town was not a good thing here . We felt a bit unsafe with groups of men often hanging around intimidating us , taxi drivers ripping us off and the feeling everyone was out for your money .The town had a lot of rain whilst we were there causing the property to flood outside and create pooling in a lot of areas hence mosquitoes. However , I understand you can’t predict the weather ,but there is not enough infrastructure around the town to cope with the flooding. The nearby beach was littered .
The room was very rudimentary with the shower hit and Miss for hot water and things taped together.
No breakfast that was “included “ due to black out the first day and we declined the 2nd day after being woken up way too early to ask if we wanted some plus we lacked confidence in the facilities.
- Tammymd (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the location, close to everything and the perfect beach. We swam with Manatees right off of shore which is an amazing experience. The beds could have been a tad softer. Other than that, we didn't want to leave.
- Robert (9/5): Cheerful, friendly, helpful staff shine at this 2 star hotel - Comfortable, quiet room. Helpful friendly staff. the sea view rooms were booked up and would have been even nicer
- Murray (8/5): will go back again - good value, great staff difficulty with hot water availability
- Amy (9/5): Sugar Patch Inn is a wonderful quiet, clean and safe place to stay in Hopkins. Definitely recommend. - We had 2 rooms on the upper floor. The view out to the ocean was very nice. The doors to the rooms were on a upper deck which had a great view and ocean breezes. The middle level of the house had a large outdoor deck that had a couple picnic tables and chairs for congregating. The rooms were clean, had a small fridge. The bathrooms were modern. The hotel provided coffee grounds, sugar, coffee filters and a coffee maker in the room. We only stayed one night but if we were staying longer I would have enjoyed making my own drip coffee and sitting on the deck enjoying the views and breeze. There is a very friendly dog named Jack which made my kids' day. The hotel is located down the main street in Hopkins. I was happy we had a car but the main part was within walking distance if you like to walk. The hotel has off street car parking. If you are looking for clean comfort and quiet then the Sugar Patch Inn can't be beat. If you want to be in the heart of things, probably not the right place for you. The Sugar Patch Inn sits on the back half of an ocean front lot. So you can see and walk to the ocean but there is a small house and another building between the Sugar Patch Inn and the ocean. The beach had quite a bit of plastic trash and ocean debris on it. However, we were visiting right after a hurricane and during the holidays so I'm not sure that our experience with the beach near the Sugar Patch Inn is reflectively of its normal state. This is not an ocean front hotel like in Placencia or San Pedro so don't expect the beach to be groomed to perfection. I wasn't expecting anything like that so I didn't really mind the beach. We still enjoyed walking on it.
- Eliza (8/5): Very good -
- Stan (8/5): Very good -
- Arden (1/5): The owner was ok to talk to but I think he is more about making money - No breakfast The fact the if I wanted the ac tht I would have to pay extra for it but it’s says it has AC so I’m not sure why I would have to pay extra
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Poor staff. They miss booked are rooms and we had to go to another hotel not on the beach. The staff misread the Orbitz confirmation and blamed guest. Then accused our group being rude. We ari Ed, went to eat, went to bed and left at 6:30 am or a tour. How did we have time to be rude?
- Margaret (10/5): Very sweet at Sugar Patch! - Interesting and fun! Wayne got us organised with airport pickups and taxi from Sittee River (after an amazing week on Glover’s Reef Atoll).
