Guest Reviews
- Artur (10/5): - - Schönes Haus in japanischen Stil direkt an U-Bahn Station

- Matthew (8/5): Convenient, well-appointed property with great service. - Location appeared initially to be a bit strange, down a side road next to a car park. However, it was very actually extremely close to the train station, which was good for travel around town, and pretty quiet considering it is quite close to the road. We're not the most adventurous with food so the bento breakfast was too fishy for us and some of the western style pastries were a bit beyond our taste. Standard croissants, muffins would have been fine for us.
Most of the family were fine, I found the duvet very hot.
- Tobias (10/5): Perfect place to stay - Amazing accomodation! It has everything needed. Owner is really kind and helpful! Additional, it is located near train station and restaurants.
I can highly recommend it. Nothing to complain about.
- ho hie (9/5): The experience was good. However I don’t understand why they need to take out photo at the nd. They did not really ask f - Traditional house and good experience
- SHIMIZU (8/5): -
- brian (10/5): - The staff were exceptional—incredibly responsive, kind, and genuinely invested in making our stay great. They went above and beyond to accommodate our requests, making traveling with family much smoother. The location made everything easy, whether it was getting around Tokyo or finding great food nearby.
- Carmela (10/5): UN RICORDO MERAVIGLIOSO !! - Tutto! TI AMO GIAPPONE ! Grazie ARAIYA 🙏🏼❤️
- Carmela (10/5): Tutto bene! - Ok

- Kamil (9/5): We were satisfied with the stay, which was for us very convenient. - The japanese breakfast was very nice. The location is due to the subway and train proximity fabulous and fast.
- Muyu (10/5): - The host is very responsive and we successfully had a early check-in which helps a lot. We planned to check out very early, they even provided us with breakfast one day before, that's really nice. When checking out, the staff also helped to carry our luagges to the taxi. We feel warmly welcomed and we fully enjoy the stay.
- Schriever (10/5): We enjoyed our stay at Araiya. The location was great, and the apartment was charming. - Kimmy was very kind and flexible with our travel plans when we first arrived. We kept changing the time, but they were very flexible and accommodating.
- Deborah (10/5): - Really unique experience. Everything was thought of and the Japanese breakfast was delicious. Really recommend this for families.
- Peter (9/5): Lovely traditional house. Easy access to station and friendly check in - Lovely traditional house. Easy access to station and friendly check in
- eyal (10/5): Excellent pick - Traditional style house. Good value for money. Very close to the metro station with one stop to Shinagawa. Very nice and welcoming staff

- Ashwini (10/5): Home away from home! - This is the 3rd property that we were fortunate enough to stay at with the same team. Much like Bamba, this is a traditional house that has been updated with modern features. The house is spacious enough for 4-5 people (we were a family of 4 with kids aged 10 and 13, so, we appreciated the space and the additional half bath). Although the sleeping quarters are located up a steep set of stairs, the futons were the MOST comfortable beds we'd ever slept in. I also appreciated the aesthetic of the house and would highly recommend this for a family stay. The staff as usual were super responsive and pay attention to the smallest of details which is so appreciated. 10/ 10 will stay here again. It was all just perfect so no complaints!
- Noriko (10/5): -
- Eduard (9/5): Herzlich, individuell, aussergewöhnlich, very nice.
- Marko (10/5): - Very convenient location. Great experience to relax in a japanese-style townhouse. Spacious. Great facilities. Exceptionally kind and supportive hosts.
- Goran (9/5): - Beautiful and original Japanese house, very traditional in every aspect. Staff was excellent, we arrived earlier than scheduled and the team was very flexible to welcome us short notice, showed us around and helped with questions we had, rearranged breakfast to our needs - outstanding.
If you are looking for an original place in Tokyo - and not a hotel - then I can recommend Araiya.
We enjoyed our stay very much.
- Yuriy (10/5): - Great service, location and staff. Thank you!
- Christopher Joseph (10/5): - Our whole family absolutely loved this private townhouse. Araiya hosts were amazing and so welcoming. Breakfast was so fresh and delicious, and there was so much food for us to share and try.
This Townhouse is definitely a home away from home: beds were so comfortable, we had everything we needed (in the kitchen and around the house),and the location is absolutely fantastic - we walked and metroed so easily. The neighborhood is peaceful, and we slept so well!!!
The host thought about every little detail: soaps smell amazing, towels in the bathrooms are soft, there are complimentary toothbrushes, razors, shampoo, etc. We were impressed!!!
We only wish we could have stayed longer...
Check-in/Check out process was immensely easy, and our hosts offered options/ideas if we needed help organizing anything.
We will highly recommend this beautiful townhouse to all of our friends and family. N/A
- Elaine (6/5): - Good location near underground. The upstairs was really one huge bedroom and sitting room rather than the two we needed. The issue was privacy. One of us slept downstairs as a bamboo screen did not really give two separate bedrooms although it was spacious. I would recommend that people check that the accommodation suits their requirements exactly before booking. We were family but not a couple, hence wanting two separate bedrooms. There was quite a bit of space and the location was good. Bathroom was a bit mouldy but adequate. The quilts seemed to be heavy winter weight but some people may like this when using the Aircon.
- ELina (10/5): -
- Sam (9/5): Super place, brilliant staff - Super clean Safety light so bright it lit up the bedroom
- Jan-steffen (10/5): Exceptional - Nice house - Traditional Japanese house in every way
- Pierre (9/5): A nice and authentic Japanese experience! - The style of the house. A real Japanese experience. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The quality of the breakfast. The house is surprisingly very quiet. The place is very well connected by public transportation but this is not the most fancy place of the city.
- Olga (2/5): Very disappointing due to poor sound insulation and humidity. - The accommodation is a very nice authentic old house. The communication with the staff was very pleasant and efficient. The sound insulation is so bad that you always have the feeling that you are on the street. Working from the accommodation online was impossible because of the noise (motorway and a construction site at a very short distance from the accommodation).
The house is very damp. The ground floor smells of mold.
The kitchen is very small and poorly equipped.
I booked this accommodation for 3 nights, but because of the points described above I was forced to book another accommodation immediately and go there.
- Mahesh (9/5): Excellent service and decent location. The service would make you want to come back - Very well maintained and excellent service The location is slightly away from major tourist destinations
- Ece (10/5): Journey to the authentic roots - The host of the house is very gentile and helpful for every occation. She thought every details for us. And the house was very authentic, trafitionally decorated but, we really took confortible, the house was also every clean and accessible to main needs.
- Elizabeth (9/5): An oasis of calm and serenity in Tokyo city! - We loved all the little details and that it felt like staying in a truly Japanese house. The property was spotlessly clean. The breakfasts were delicious! The staff, especially Azusa, were incredibly helpful.
- Sherry (9/5): Great location - Cute, traditional Japanese home, proximity to the train station and convenience stores, breakfast, pleasant staff, 2 Toto toilets, multiple sinks/mirrors, spacious shower, pajamas, heater/air con, water purification system, futon Limited space for unpacking/storing clothes.
What to expect: individual sleeping futon mattresses, steep staircase, and low ceilings so duck your head if you’re a tall person. 😊
- Ximena (9/5): Very Beautiful house - The house is very beautiful, spacious and quiet. The host was splendid and we loved the breakfast. There is a very good coffee place just 1 or 2 blocks away and a Lawson. I think it was a bit overpriced for 2 people, but if you travel in a group of 3 or even 4, its perfect; the house is definitely beautiful. There is a stair to go to the second floor that might not be the best for older people in their 70’s.
- Timothy (10/5): A wonderful alternative to a boring, characterless hotel . - Delightful, charming traditional house with lovely mixture of the very simple with the technologically sophisticated which makes it feel very Japanese. Very accommodating and charming host who, despite our very late arrival, was on hand to welcome us and make our stay as comfortable as possible. Excellent communication throughout and altogether a very memorable experience. Also brilliant ease of access to the astonishing public transport network. Nothing worthy of a mention.
- Joerg (10/5): Exceptional - Very charming house, only a few steps from Asakusa line train station. The staff was very friendly and helpful with all our requests. We really enjoyed a very pleasant stay there.
- Van (10/5): I still love our stay at the apartment - Coziness, Japanese style home, beddings were great. Breakfast could be better (they looked like bought from 7eleven
- David (10/5): An authentic Japanese stay in the heart of Tokyo - I really unique and authentic Japanese experience in the heart of Tokyo. Staff couldn’t do enough to help us with restaurant recommendations, taxi bookings etc. The Japanese breakfast was delicious. Wish we could have stayed longer!
- Christopher (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lucy (9/5): Superb - Great location, plenty of space, very clean, gorgeous quaint townhouse. Highly recommend!
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - The place was so cute and cozy and the owners really went out of their way to make sure that we felt at home! Because it was the new year season, there wasn't much that they could provide for breakfast but they did their best and got us kara-age and onigiri for our last breakfast since we were getting tired of the bakery breads that they got us. The place was clean and it was right next to a subway stop which was really convenient!!
- Laurie (10/5): Great location close to subway, fantastic hosts, cozy and inviting townhome, highly recommend! - Hosts were exceptional—Taka san, Kimi san, and Judo san were helpful and kind and made us feel very welcomed and supported while giving us plenty of privacy to enjoy the property. The home was originally a rice shop and some of the original beams and fixtures are still there, as well as a sink apparatus that is from WWII—so cool. The property is conveniently located 1 min from Sengakuji station, off exit A3. There was a daily breakfast brought to us, with choice of pastries/breads or onigiri/Japanese options. Futon mattresses were comfortable and the screens provide privacy. We especially appreciated the dining area where we could lounge as a family or enjoy meals together. Cozy place with enough areas for separate enjoyment if needed (I.e. older teen had his own area for sleep and playing on computer). We loved everything about the property and the accommodations. One thing to note, which has nothing to do with the property, is that there are no elevators at the Sengakuji station so keep luggage light if possible.
- Gary (9/5): Superb - The breakfast was nice
The space from having the whole house to yourself Only 1 bath
- Carrie (10/5): Everything was delightful. We would stay here again. - Our stay (with 3 generations of family) was very comfortable. The Japanese breakfast was delivered daily, and the hosts were very accommodating. Cleaning happened when requested and was scheduled ahead of time. Subway access was very easy, down the block and located on a main line so everything in Tokyo was easy to get to. It is not centrally located, so you do have to take the subway to the main tourist areas, but its a quick trip to a lot of the sites. There is a main bullet train terminal (Shinagawa Station) one stop away if you are travelling through Japan, and it was convenient to get to. There is a separate washer and dryer that was easy to use and helpful for our long stay. The hosts were very thoughtful and kind to our young son. There is no hot water in any of the hand sinks (only hot in the kitchen sink), so don't expect to wash your face with warm water. (This wasn't an issue for us.) There was some morning noise outside, but the window shutters that blocked out the light helped to block out the sound as well. They also provided ear plugs.
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional - We loved the breakfast options. In particular, we enjoyed the Japanese style breakfast experience. The location was very convenient close to the train station, which made it easy to do all the sightseeing in Tokyo. The staff was very friendly, easy to reach and very helpful.
- Anthony (7/5): Good -
- Linnea (10/5): Authentic accommodation in a great location for a family. - This was a great find for our family of 5. Our 3 boys loved the authenticity feel of a Japanese home. The breakfast was great, and a special shout out to Kimmy san
- Rui (10/5): Unforgettable experience - Great offer to experience traditional Japanese House. There were basically everything we needed inside.
Very close to Station Sengakuji and one stop from Shinagawa, so highly accessible to every area in Tokyo and surrounding areas. We enjoy cooking local food. The number of tablewares and utensils were a little low.
- Brian (10/5): Exceptional - staff were great and had go travel tips
- Reese (10/5): Extremely pleasant and accommodating stay. - The staff was extremely helpful and nice. If you needed anything, you could text them easily. The breakfast was delivered by hand each morning, as well as it being flexible
- Tamsin (8/5): Very good -
- Amanda (10/5): Fantastic house and team. - Fantastic house and the team was so nice and helpful.
- Clayton (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dominique (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was perfect. We particularly appreciated the kindness and efficiency of our host. The breakfast was delicious.
- Amanda (8/5): Comfortable and convenient - The staff were wonderful. We loved the breakfast. Very close to the train station. Attractions took about 30 minutes from this location by train. Very comfortable. Not a lot of places to walk around near by.
- Rusadi (10/5): Warm Japanese hospitality at its best - The whole house is for us. Location was 2 minutes away from Metro Station. The staff was very warm and attentive especially Hayakawa-san and team which always ask if we need any assistance. Breakfast was taylor made for us when we asked only halal food and they even send us a Muslim Japan Guide. Nothing
- Richard (9/5): The house was great for a family visiting Tokyo. - The house was very spacious and in an excellent location. It was the perfect base for our stay in Tokyo. And all the staff were so helpful, always ready to help with a recommendation or a booking. A minor issue was the lack of cupboard or hanging space.
You get a some noise from the outside.
- Jaime (10/5): We absolutely loved our stay! Would love to return! - The traditional style home was incredible- such a unique experience. Plenty of room for our family of 5. It’s a little off the beaten path, but still within a few minutes of a station.
- Natasha (10/5): Exceptional - We had such a pleasant stay here. Beautifully decorated, spacious and close to train station. Breakfast was hearty and beautifully presented and the hosts were lovely. We would stay again in a heartbeat ❤️
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anne (10/5): Kimmy provided exceptional service, ensuring our comfort and enjoyment throughout our stay. - The check-in process was incredibly smooth. Upon our arrival, Kimmy warmly welcomed us and efficiently guided us to our rooms and the available amenities. Throughout our stay, he consistently checked in on us, offering assistance and recommendations for exploring Japan. His exceptional hospitality made our experience truly enjoyable!
The traditional-style inn was absolutely amazing. It exuded a charming ambiance while offering a perfect blend of comfort and style. Our children were absolutely enchanted by the place. The generously spacious rooms and incredibly comfortable beds were exactly what our family of 5 needed for a delightful stay. We highly recommend it and love to stay here again.
The breakfast was absolutely delightful! Given the opportunity to choose between Japanese and Western options, it was only fitting to embrace the local flavours and opt for the Japanese breakfast. Nothing, it was perfect for us and we wished we could have stayed a little longer.
- Hyunju (10/5): Exceptional - Everything is well prepared. It was especially nice to be able to feel Japan. Great house! Nice host! Nothing
- Silvester (10/5): Exceptional - Very friendly and helpful staff 10/10. Comfortable and clean. Location direct on train line to Haneda airport - 100m from station, even with a lot of luggage very comfortable. Shop and restaurants literally behind the corner - within 2 minutes. Many compliments!
- Mireille (9/5): Great little house with an amazing staff - We loved this japanese style house. We stayed 3 nights with our 2 children. Very close to public transport ! Great Japanese breakfast. The staff was super nice and very helpful.
- Steven (8/5): Very good -
- Erin (10/5): We loved our stay - Very authentic stay in Tokyo. Extremely convenient to train lines and local restaurants.
- Jackie (10/5): Exceptional location and staff - Quaint, comfortable, clean, perfect location
- Frauke (10/5): A great Japanese experience in Tokyo! - Very friendly staff. And it was wonderful to have breakfast delivered every morning. The location was excellent and quiet. Grocery shopping was conveniently nearby. Generally it was a great place. It could be difficult for older people to get up the steep stairs. As a taller person I had to watch my head often.
- Nicholas (8/5): Very good - Easy, welcoming check-in, beautiful, comfortable building. Close to the subway but in a bit of a dead-zone without too many dining options.
- Janene (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): - I thought the property was very nice inside with the use of traditional Japanese styles of the tatami rooms and comfortable beds as well as the sliding rice paper doors. It had a great shower room, which could be used like a Onsen with a deep soaking tub and short stool with bucket. But even with these traditional styles, you could’ve easily taken a standup shower. Washer and dryer worked great. Kitchen is well equipped. Breakfast was delivered promptly every morning, however, might recommend they vary the breakfast content. Customer service was A , especially with Mako, Mina and Kimmy. Large grocery store and small Lawsons convenience store located within five to ten minute walk. Two minutes to the train station, which is a direct route to old town Asakusa. We are already planning our return visit.
- Sarah (9/5): Superb - Great location right near the train line. Very welcoming and personable host who was happy to help in any way. The property was gorgeous and interesting, great to stay in a more traditional Japanese house but to still have modern comforts.
- Roger (7/5): Good -
- Vanessa (9/5): Superb - Excellent location, very friendly and amenable hosts. They generously allowed us to store our luggage before heading to the airport the next day and also let us check in early. We very much enjoyed our stay.
- Jatin (10/5): Best hotel experience I had in Japan! - Everything from the booking of the stay to the checking out process was extremely smooth. The hosts were very kind and friendly and did everything they could to make our stay as comfortable as possible.
- Mingyu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (9/5): Wonderful stay, friendly and helpful staff. - Wonderful clean and comfortable Nothing!
- Clare (10/5): Completely loved staying here. - So perfect, a whole house in Tokyo. The little touches were lovely, like breakfast arriving each morning and someone from the house team enquiring if there was anything they could help with each day. All very personable.
This place allows you to feel you are in Japan, very different from a faceless hotel chain.
The sleeping room is a good size and can be sectioned off for privacy. It was airy and light. The shutters could be pulled over to make it dark, perfect for sleeping off jet lag. This was great for myself, adult and teenage sons.
The subway is just next door and a well stocked 24 hour shop 3 mins walk up the road.
I loved all the quirks and vintage details - like the fishtail window latches. It is really not a problem- just something my sons who are both 195cm had to get used to - they had to duck to get under the doorframes ( and sometimes forgot ). Being a ‘normal’ height, I had no issues.
- Wei (10/5): Exceptional -
- Melissa (10/5): Araiya was the perfect end to our Japan holiday. The staff were lovely and very accommodating. we would stay there again - the original features and the Toto’s 😃 stairs were a little steep
- Chris (9/5): A unique property in a convenient location, giving a memorable family stay. - Beautiful property which gives a real authentic feel to our stay in Japan. Friendly staff and nice continental breakfast. There are ear-plugs in there for a reason - the windows/shutters let quite a lot of noise through (not helped by construction going on nearby).
- Ong (9/5): we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the property. we don’t mind staying there longer. The staffs are very helpful eg Ming - traditional Japanese home experience. nothing really but if I had to state one I would say the shower holder could have been better.
- Seulki (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chialing (10/5): Exceptional - Breakfast was delicious. The home was well thought out and the bath was amazing. Everything about the place was perfect and comfortable. A lot of neat little touches. Memorable stay. Thank you.
- Alyssa (10/5): Exceptional - I enjoyed the old Japanese style home, kitchen with everything I needed, kotatsu, spacious tatami rooms upstairs, and the convenient location. The only small plates I found were tea saucers.
- Lexie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wei (10/5): Exceptional - Old style japanese town house. Unique experience of japanese culture. Very friendly staffs.
- Emma (10/5): Beautiful traditional home in Tokyo - We loved our stay in Araiya! The house was absolutely beautiful, with such attention to detail. We were perfectly comfortable and will return next time we're in Tokyo. The hosts were very welcoming and made us a delicious breakfast each morning.
- Peter (10/5): The ultimate experience, Japanese style. - From the moment we arrived Taka made us feel at home. A beautiful Japanese style house with breakfast delivered every day.
