Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This place looks terrific inside and out. Rooms and public areas are tastefully furnished and decorated to a very high standard. A fantastic mixture of modern touches and traditional materials. Amazing attention to detail in everything. Delicious breakfast.
- Will (10/5): AWESOME - Absolutely fantastic. Thank you so much for my brilliant beans on toast and a pint for when I was working away rom home and didn't want a takeaway BRILLIANT - I shall see you soon.
- Michael (2/5): Very cold room. - I checked into this hotel late on a Saturday afternoon. It was a very cold January day. I paid for a superior room in the main building, up several flights of stairs and a very steep narrow staircase, there is no lift. The room was up in the attic under the eves. The room was freezing as the heating had been turned off. I managed to turn the radiator in the bathroom and the single one in the large room on, to little effect. I was suffering from a very bad cold so was looking forward to being tucked up in a warm room. When the receptionist happen to knock on my door I asked him if he could do anything about the freezing room. He tried to bleed the radiators with a screwdriver. This had little effect and at 7pm the heating went off entirely and never came back on again. I spent a bitterly cold night in an attic room. The hotel had minimal staff. They also cancelled all evening meal service, which was a great disappointment as I was not feeling well enough to go out again.
Check out is very early at 10am although they offered me a later check out at £10 per hour extra. As I had already paid £108 for a freezing room I left as early as I could the next morning.
I am sure in the summer months this hotel is pleasant. It seemed very attractive on their website. It appeared very understaffed. I did not see anyone attending the reception desk or the bar whilst I was there. I was really looking forward to my stay and an evening meal at the hotel. Sadly I was greatly disappointed.
- Simon (10/5): a gem of a hotel - What a surprise and delight! A lovely boutique hotel with friendly staff, a stylish room and characterful dining room, bar and gardens
- Brenda (10/5): - Lovely place to stay. Very relaxing, friendly environment
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely setting and property. Room very cold though and breakfast cereal and fruit choices bit limited (no muesli). Stairs up to upper kevel very steep and paintwork on that stairwell tired.
- Laura (10/5): - Lovely cosy rooms with beautiful decor. Great breakfast menu. Would love to stay again in the summer months to enjoy the outside gardens and views.
- Martin (10/5): A gem of a place - A beautiful and very unique place with great character. and fine service.
- Mark (8/5): - Great location for places in Dundee and to stay if you want to just drive to St. Andrews in 30 minutes
- Jayne (10/5): wonderful - Taypark house is a lovely place to stay, everybody is very welcoming and helpful. The room was beautiful and comfortable. food fantastic. would highly recommend
- Debbie (8/5): - We really enjoyed another stay at The Taypark. Staff were really nice especially Paige who served at the gin bar. Was slightly disappointed that our room was cleaned because we forgot to put sign showing. Again Paige sorted it for us!. Shes a little Ray of sunshine in This hotel.
Will. Definitely be returning.
- Verified traveler (10/5): A must stay! ❤️ - Taypark was gorgeous. The room, the whole building, and grounds. We continued to tour Scotland and the dinner we had was by far the best food we had all month! Wonderful staff and a great place to stay!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Perfect family getaway - Fabulous hotel set in lovely grounds with fantastic views and just 5 minutes drive Fon Dundee centre. Had 4 rooms which were all different and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was excellent and the staff extremely helpful and accommodating. The bar/lounge perfect for our family gatherings in the evening. Didn't eat in the restaurant this time but well on our next visit as we will definately be returning.
- William (10/5): Beautiful property with excellent service, comfort - Our stay was delightful from the beginning. Our check in was friendly, warm and welcoming. I had booked two rooms and they were both extremely clean, well appointed, recently updated and in general as nice as you could want. A very spacious room with a very comfortable bed and nice linens. The bathroom was modern and nicely appointed. Parking is onsite and very easy. The restaurant at Taypark House is excellent. We enjoyed dinner at the hotel both nights we stayed and the food was exceptional. Breakfast was also very good and it was a great way to start the day. The gin bar was also a very nice addition to the hotel. I would highly recommend the Taypark to anyone traveling as it had the most wonderful staff, great rooms and exceptional food.
- Judith (10/5): Lovely little find - Staff cannot do enough to make your stay special and enjoyable. If you book for business ensure you have 45 minutes free for breakfast. The food is cooked fresh so allow for this and the morning staff on our stay were certainly not in a rush. Rooms were gorgeous
- Cam (10/5): - Awesome 1 of a kind rich and old feeling with modern comfort- great fixtures and a pleasant vibe
- Grant (10/5): - The Taypark House has such a lovely decore and warm feeling. Art placement and furniture are excellent. The Gin Bar is done very well, the food in the restaurants is 5 Star along without standing service.
I highly recommend this property.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A beautiful property! We stayed in one of the smaller garden apartments. It was clean and well appointed with a spacious bathroom. We ate both breakfast and dinner in the restaurant, both were delicious. Would definitely recommend!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Lovely location. Morning staff rude. Rom ok but some cheap furnishings detracted
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Absolutely loved this property, one of the nicest places we have stayed, rooms beautiful, overnight stay for my fiancé birthday, didn’t want to leave. Will definitely be back 💕
- Wayne (8/5): Not really for travelling workman - Very comfortable bed big bathroom had a good nights sleep, felt a bit out off place as a travelling worker more for upper classes, breakfast was ok but wasnt asked or offered toast felt like the guy who served me was looking down his nose at me very uncomfortable feeling ate my food and got out quickly.
- Sheila (10/5): Highly recommended - Excellent service & accommodation, really good food. Perfect .
- John C. (10/5): a must stay if you are in Dundee! - Nice surprise, very nice hotel and friendly service. Good food, fine drinks, cool Gin bar ... only - point is that breakfast is only continental and full Scotish breakfast is charged extra.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely old manor house - This is a lovely old manor house that has been converted to a lodge. Very nice ambience, nice clean and comfortable rooms, and a very good breakfast. Very much enjoyed our overnighter there.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Liked the size of the hotel and the furniture. It was all well cared for.
Shame there is a limited view of the river.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Really nice accommodations at an 1850s property. Great food and great staff. Highly recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel looked very formal, but was actually fun and quirky. The room, staff and food were excellent.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hotel staff was GREAT. They walked us to our room and also made dinner reservations for us.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Historic nature of property and atmosphere of 19th C mansion.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - great atmosphere and friendly staff
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The gin bar is great! The blinds in our room were a bit tatty, and the curtains were a bit tricky to try and close, but it didn't take away from our experience. Fab hotel! Would definitely recommend
- Verified traveler (10/5): - restaurant was excellent; we enjoyed both dinner and breakfast and glad we never left property. Would definitely return!
- R (6/5): Over night stay - Room was alright but would have preferred to stay in the main building.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Charming facility with great breakfast. We stayed in the garden rooms which where around behind the main building. A bit overgrown path to get there, especially when raining. Room was clean and large though.
- GILBERT (10/5): Stay in Tay. - Interesting house with well tended garden. Comfortable guest common rooms. Our room spacious with large bathroom. All neat and clean. Very palatable in- house dinner snd standard breakfast. Reasonably priced.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We absolutely loved this property and didn’t want to leave! It’s a beautiful old house with lovely gardens. We had a family room for the four of us and had plenty of space. The room had a large modern bathroom with tasteful decorations. The staff was amazing and helpful. The food was excellent with gluten free options for myself and my daughter. We only stayed for one night as it was close to St Andrews and on our way to Aviemore. However, we would have stayed longer just to stay on the beautiful property. Truly a hidden gem in the city!
- Laura (10/5): - Had a lovely stay at Taypark, only thing I would say is that we did not know that there was an open air cinema on in the hotel car park. It was quite noisy up until around midnight with men taking down the equipment. Food was lovely and room spotless.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good food and nice room. Very quiet. Unique property
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely property, nice rooms, good breakfast. Would definitely stay again. Only downside this weekend, couldn’t get parked at hotel due to big screen show on in car park, but otherwise lovely hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This hotel was lovely with a cozy eclectic style. The view was nice and the every part of the hotel was clean and tidy. The meals were splendid.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - This is a beautiful place. They definitely need more than just 3 people working. The cook who cooks great meals, checkin person is also the bar person and is also the waiter, along with one other person who waitresses and bar keeps. We felt bad for them. The food is really good, put up the special of the day before 3 to 4 tables order their meals. We were in separate building from main house. No matter the weather, you go outside to walk around house to go to the main house for a meal. Would definitely go back, it is a nice place.
- marilena (10/5): - Excellent
- Ruth (8/5): Informal and modern - We enjoyed our stay at Taypark House. We had a garden room, which although perhaps lacking in the grandeur of a room in the main house, was very nice and even had an outdoor table and chairs. (Unfortunately, the weather was too cold and wet for us to enjoy this facility.) We were given a lift to the V and A in the hotel’s Tuk Tuk, which was great fun! We had a nice meal one evening, but unfortunately, we had a long wait for our food. We had been told it would take some time, due to staff shortage, but we didn’t expect it to take an hour! (Perhaps an offer of some bread or olives while we waited would have been a nice gesture.) Cooked breakfast was very good, although the cereals, bread and fresh fruit on offer didn’t match the style or imagination of the hot menu. Some of the modern furnishings and decorations didn’t really do justice to such a grand old building and I feel it is a pity to have arranged the car park with cars right in front of the house, so that the first impression coming down the drive is of cars rather than a clear view of the house. This also means that the view from the bar is of cars. Putting the new raised beds planters in front of the house, thereby masking the view of the cars from the bar and taking the eye to the lovely garden beyond, would have been preferable, in my opinion.
- Paula (10/5): Excellent - Excellent! Gracious & Friendly welcome. Spacious & clean rooms. Great amenities.
Breakfast was wonderful.
- Kara (10/5): - Beautiful property. Staff was so so nice. The shower head was a little broken. I'm sure the staff would have fixed it or given us another room but we were only there for one night.
- Mark (10/5): Lovely place - Lovely place & great staff. The only thing to let it down was the food. Only four items on the evening menu & two of them they were out of. Ordered the steak & it took 40mins to arrive
- Alison Jane (10/5): Hidden gem and excellent value! - All very positive. Good room, good shower etc. Comfy bed. Peaceful sleep. Helpful and very friendly staff across the whole hotel. Very good value for Dundee and as I had a car one of the few hotels that have good parking. Plus very easy to get short taxi ride or bus into the city. Travelling also makes of appreciate a helpful hotel team. Also great view from the hotel. Will return.
- Lynda (10/5): Hit the spot! - An excellent oasis in a city with good facilities and feel about it..
- Verified traveler (10/5): - happy with room provided. good service from the kitchen.
disliked doors banging at night
- Verified traveler (8/5): Relaxing break - Great weekend break. Nice views and delicious breakfast.
- Melanie M (10/5): Elegance and charm in this beautiful hotel - The room was great for comfort and cleanliness. Bonus was excellent WiFi.
Iron and ironing board, hairdryer all brought to our room on request. Delicious scottish breakfast in the morning. All staff were polite and friendly and couldn’t do enough to make the stay enjoyable. The building is very elegant and loved the way they retained the original features. Highly recommend!
- Helen (8/5): Business Trip to Dundee - Convenient location, pleasant clean room which had plenty of room and good sized bed
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This property was everything we hoped it would be. Nestled back away from the mainstream it was a quaint castle looking manor that my kids (age 12 and 10) adored. The restaurant served delicious meals and desserts and the bar offered drinks and board games. The rooms were spacious with comfortable beds.
- Carolyn (8/5): Very comfortable stay. - Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The rooms were excellent: well, and to my mind tastefully furnished. Good size and super-comfy beds.
Foyer/ entrance was shabby chic but perhaps tending a tad more towards the former than the latter.
Food was very good but the dinner menu, which was pretty brief, featured only one special daily which meant if you were staying a few nights you were struggling for choice.
Staff were attentive, friendly without crossing the line to over-familiarity or being "in your face".
I'd be very happy to return. Think its a 4.5 out of 5 and could have been the full monty but for the two minor gripes above.
- helen (10/5): Great Place To Stay - This is the 2nd time I've stayed here. Great hotel lovely comfy rooms, superb Scottish breakfast and nothing was any trouble for the staff. Thoroughly recommend a stay here
- Mark (10/5): Highly recommended! - Lovely Staff, Lovely room with great views of the Tay, Dinner was great too and Head chef Manuel was informative, attentive and charming!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Such a beautiful hotel. I arrived really late but it was no bother for the chap on reception. It was beautifully lit up at night and my room was spacious and full of character. Breakfast was fab. Smoked salmon with 2 excellently cooked poached eggs on gluten free toast. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.
- Jennifer (4/5): Very disappointing stay - I have to say I was very disappointed with my recent visit to Taypark House. We have stayed previously and always found it lovely and welcoming. However on this visit (which was a birthday surprise for my husband) we were put into the new apartments as oppose to the main building. There was bird muck on the top of the stair and banister. The room itself - the blind was broken, there was a hole in the towel, the vinyl flooring was completely out of place and bubbled up around the shower, sink and toilet. The food in the restaurant - the fish was raw and the steaks not cooked correctly - we did get a partial refund on the food - however it was supposed to be a romantic night away and we ended up eating our meals separately - my husband couldn't eat his at all. I did complain to reception on our arrival but they said there was nothing they could do. Overall I was very unhappy. This wasn't the service I expected from Taypark and I don't think we'll be staying there again.
- Adam (8/5): Comfy with beutiful grounds, need a reception bell - Beautiful building and surrounding gardens and facilities.
Comfy bed and room, albeit a smallish double room.
My single gripe, and its not really a big one, is that upon arrival I had to wait a good 5 minutes at the reception desk before anyone was free to deal with me, it transpired the hotel was a bit short staffed at the exact time that I'd arrived, and as a staff member was running about trying to serve food they spotted me waiting and said they'd just be a few minutes (which they were). If they hadn't spotted me I think I would've had to go wandering around to try and find someone as there was no bell at reception. I think a bell on the reception desk would be a welcome addition, and would not leave customers just stood trying to figure out how to find somebody.
- Jonathan (10/5): Highly recommended - Excellent hotel lovely rooms and staff. Only negative is that the WIFI is a bit intermittent.
- Sheila (10/5): Stylish and elegant - A very well appointed hotel. Stunningly attractive typical stone Scottish mansion. Updated sympathetically to deliver a smart comfortable stay. Excellent dining
- Adam (10/5): - Excellent. Seconds stay here and will always make this first choice when in the area. Quaint and full of charismatic charms.
- CARL (10/5): Great value for money -
I always stay at this hotel when working in Dundee. It has good off road parking, the staff are always friendly and there is a good choice for breakfast, with freshly cooked food. The rooms are always clean and comfortable and to a high standard. The food in the restaurant is also very good, so saves you having to drive into Dundee centre if your not in the mood for a night out on the town. Wifi works well in the rooms.
The only negative for some will be the close proximity to the airport. You do hear the odd aircraft or helicopter, but its not as if there are many flights in a day.
- Phil (10/5): - A gem of a hotel, 2nd time I have stopped here on business. Lovely position by the side of the river Tay. Great food and a fabulous breakfast.
- Mike (8/5): - Stayed here for the third time and will no doubt stay again. Nice friendly hotel with great staff, great food and comfortable clean rooms.
- Paul (8/5): - Hotel great rooms and decor excellent - Disappointed with bar closing at 22:15 on a saturday night and felt as if they were rushing us as they kept popping their head in to see if we had finished. Asked for poached egg on toast in morning and it came on bread not toast. Evening meal disappointing could have done better myself.
- Mr B Small (10/5): - Very nice hotel, comfortable room
- VValerie (10/5): Treat for our Family - We loved Taypark House. We were in the family room which had an oversized bath room and plenty of extra room in the sleeping area for the two boys. The food downstairs is superb and the ambiance is one of a kind delightful. The house overlooks the water and the garden area around the house is lovely. There is a comfortable bar/meeting room downstairs also.
- Rosa (10/5): Character home with excellent breakfast. - Such a lovely house with a ton of character. Service was excellent, lots of parking, fabulous hot breakfast. It looks like a wonderful event venue, we will be back.
- Lyn (10/5): - Lovely quiet garden room, separate shower. Wifi good, no problems with parking, nice meals.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Baronial manor with flare - Loved the atmosphere and decor in unique Scottish manor house.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Our stay was very short but it would have been lovely to have stayed longer.
- Brian (8/5): Taypark unique - Lovely quirky boutique hotel in great setting, comfortable rooms, only dinner food service was a bit slow, and 10 am checkout too early for leisure break
- Su (10/5): Quirky, well appointed hotel in beautiful position - Lovely spot, excellent food, great Gin Bar, helpful staff. I stay here a lot and choose it over any other hotel in Dundee.
- Lee (8/5): Will use Again - Very good. Comfortable and clean and good service. Will use again
- Julie (10/5): Such a pleasant surprise - It was a half way stay on my journey from Edinburgh to Aberdeen. What a pleasant surprise- it was charming and delightful!
- Mary (10/5): Great Customer service - Great hotel and the best staff so helpful and polite. Very strongly recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Dundee.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Beautiful house, lovely grounds, stellar room, very hard bed
- Lori-Ann (10/5): - We had a lovely, big and comfy room overlooking the garden. Food was excellent! Really enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting again.
- Catriona (10/5): Lovely country house in Dundee - Lovely country house hotel in close proximity to Dundee city, we took two rooms 102 and 202. Both lovely views over gardens and the Tay. Weather was great so we had afternoon tea in the gardens. Breakfast was good. Didn’t try the bar but was told there were 40 types of gin to sample. Would go back.
- Tracy (8/5): Nice hotel but poor restaurant - Beautiful hotel and very friendly helpful staff. Sadly the restaurant is very lacking. I ordered a steak pie with home cooked chips. Sadly I received a plate of meat and gravy with frozen chips. Apparently they forgot to cook any pastry. I was offered a free coffee as an apology. I really felt for the young waitress so just ate what I was given. Luckily breakfast was a better experience.
- Barry (10/5): Almost perfect. - This is a beautiful hotel set in it's own grounds. Friendly and efficient staff. Lovely cooked breakfast. Only downside is no draught beers.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Taypark house is beautiful and we loved our suite. The view was beautiful! The staff that checked us in and served us breakfast were pleasant but gave the impression that they were just doing a job and were not the most helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Definitely Stay Here, Well Worth It. - A fantastic place to stay with plenty of character. We would go back any time if we are in the area.
- Graham (10/5): Nice character hotel with boutique feel - Overall a really good hotel.
Plus points:
- lovely old converted Manor House from 1860s
- beautiful outside seating areas
- character bedrooms
- excellent breakfast
Only downside:
- were not able to offer any bar snacks and so choice was to have full restaurant dinner or go into town for lighter meal
- Verified traveler (8/5): Nice - Nice hotel but things were a little rough around the edges. WiFi did not work in our room, and the headboard was loose.
- Catherine (8/5): Fab find - Really lovely hotel with great food and ambiance.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Stylish and a bit quirky with views over the botanic gardens towards the Tay. We were in a garden room which is a small block of 6 rooms to the side of the main building. Quiet comfortable and reasonably spacious. The food in the restaurant was a bit patchy, like the monk fish with the membrane not removed and a bit overcooked. Its about a mile into the town center with frequent buses.
- Kimberly (10/5): Idyllic and charming - Even more beautiful and romantic than the photos, we easily slipped into 2 days of rest in this charming and romantic castle- like home. We so enjoyed the food, home, grounds, and neighborhood, that we ended up staying there for lunch, dinner and breakfast. (Which is unlike us)! We didn’t want to leave!
- Ricard (10/5): Nice clean great breakfast - Very friendly clean rooms great price breakfast was included quite setting would much rather stay here than an hotel
- Verified traveler (10/5): Relaxing, unique place to stay - Really relaxing, comfortable hotel. Rooms were very nicely decorated and bed was very comfortable. The perfect place to stay after a busy day. The gin bar looked fun too, and the views over the Tay were lovely.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Perfect.
Does everything it should, location, wow factor when arriving , staff, room .
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Room was really good - good selection of hot drinks and lovely shortbread biscuits. Breakfast did not include any fruit, yoghurt etc. Just cereal and cooked to order hot food which was very good.
WiFi was patchy - not great in my room.
- Adam (10/5): Superb hotel - Lovely hotel made to feel very welcome. Breakfast was of a high standard
- Pietro (10/5): Hidden gem - Fantastic discovery. Close to Dundee centre yet hidden away in beautiful grounds.
We had the Botanical suite with stunning views towards the river.
Will be back!
- MAKAYLA (10/5): Prettiest hotel - Absolutely gorgeous hotel!! It felt like a luxurious getaway! Fabulous soaker tub! We loved our stay and the free cook to order breakfast was the bonus! It was also delicious. Highly recommended
- Rob (10/5): Hidden Gem - Great place, a hidden gem. Absolutely nothing to find fault with. Brilliant views.
- Desmond (10/5): Good view - Very comfortable with friendly staff. The room was massive and had a good view of the botanical garden.
- Phil (10/5): What a gem of a hotel - Stayed while on business in Dundee, all the staff were very friendly and very helpful.
The hotel was super clean and has very comfortable large rooms.
Why would you want to stop in a budget chain hotel for more money?
I would definitely stay here again.
