Guest Reviews
- Lesley (9/5): Fabulous - Friendly staff, the view amazing, very big bedroom and nice breakfast. All the stairs!
- Caroline (10/5): Geweldig! - Totaal plaatje
- Deborah (10/5): - Beautiful accomodation. Friendly staff. Great views
- Melanie (9/5): 10/10 to the hosts - Portia and David - The view from the penthouse is amazing.
The hosts, Portia and David were super helpful.
Breakfast was excellent.
We walked across the road to Theatre on the Bay for an evening show. Very close and safe. Property feels rundown. In need of a make-over.
Skylight above bed was leaking.
Shower tray super slippery.
Shower door not closing.
Bathroom door not closing.
Slight damp smell in room and inside cupboards.
Luggage needs to be carried up to 3rd floor - might be too much for older guests.
We parked in front of the entrance but when fully booked, parking might be a problem.
- Vladimir (10/5): -
- Tristram (10/5): Loved everything about The Vineyard. - Great room and staff, superb breakfast. Nothing!
- Charlene Fortune (9/5): Comfy and cosy - The view was beautiful Not enough access to available electrical sockets
- Fabian (9/5): Wunderbar absolutes Highlight!
- Carmen (9/5): -
- Kate (10/5): Excellent stay would recommend and stay again - Very welcoming staff, excellent room and location was superb Not enough electric sockets in the room
- Leonardo (9/5): - Great place, great views, very big bedroom. The staff is also amazing, Portia, the housekeeper, made sure we had everything we needed. The bath and shower weren't exactly clean when we got there
- Andreas (10/5): Für mich hat es perfekt gepasst. - Super zentral gelegen. Tolles Zimmer, grandioser Blick. Alles super. Nichts.
- Mathilde (10/5): - Aufzug hat gefehlt
Etwas laut
- Alena (10/5): - Location, view, a lot of space
- Elizabeth (10/5): Fantastic place and location, lovely people and a great time. - Beautiful views over camps bay

Clean and large room Lots of stairs!
- Loes (8/5): -
- Johanna (7/5): -
- Monika (9/5): Tolle Aussicht und top Lage - Super Lage, Restaurant und Strand zu Fuss erreichbar. Bad muss renoviert werden.
- Rita (8/5): - Top Lage und gutes Preis Leistungsverhältnis
- Matthias (4/5): -
- Katarina (10/5): -
- Suria (8/5): Maybe its possible if the staff can offer to help with luggage and not let the guests carry everything up three flights - Electric plugs in our room did not work during our stay. Reported it to staff. Hence couldn’t watch TV, or make coffee, charge our devices or blow dry our hair in the morning.
- Smith (10/5): Great location, incredible views and lovely staff - Great location! Very conveniently located for an easy walk to an abundance of restaurants and beaches. David and Porsha took excellent care of us. Such lovely people. We had an early morning hike and were going to miss their breakfast so Porsha put together a goodie bag for us with fruit, yogurt, granola bars etc. Such a treat and very much appreciated! There are a fair amount of stairs at the property, which for us was a nice excuse for movement but is also why the place has such incredible views! We loved staying here and would return without hesitation!
- Mohr (9/5): - Helpfull and nice staff, room and terrace 70 steps to carry your luggage, bred collection for breakfast
- Michal (8/5): Suepr lokalizacja, piękny widok ale podejście do gości wymaga poprawy. Bardzo slabe śniadanie. - Czysto, piękny widok, wygodne i komfortowe pokoje i lazienki. Śniadanie i podejście obsługi. W kolejne dwa dni bylo troche lepiej bo w kuchni byla Porsha (przepraszam jesli przekręciłem imie) i zaproponowała jajka do tostów.

- Katie (8/5): - The view was amazing, the room was big and the bed was comfortable. The location was walking distance to restaurants and in a safe area. nothing! Initially finding the entrance was tough but Google directions are accurate, the door by the garage is the entrance, not on the other side like our taxi thought.
- Jeanne (9/5): - Great location & Portia was very welcoming. Room & breakfast excellent. Nothing
- Alfred (10/5): -
- Christine (9/5): -
- Chavunduka (9/5): - The location, you can see the mountain view and the sea view clearly On breakfast, there's was no variety.
- Carina (8/5): -
- Nikita (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tim (9/5): Superb - Very nice rooms with a beautiful view on the bay!
- Karen (10/5): Perfect stay in Camps Bay close to everything with great views - Beautiful accommodation with ocean views. Great location. Everything was perfect Nothing
- Baohua (8/5): Very good -
- David (9/5): Great location, great views. Wonderful stay. - Great location, great views. Wonderful stay.
- Susan (10/5): Great stay - The house was beautiful, the room was also beautiful and very spacious. The location was about a 2-3 minute walk from the beach and the promenade with lots of restaurants. We had constant electricity. The hosts were very nice. Breakfast was provided.
- Jo (9/5): Superb - Fabulous location, 2 mins walk to the beach/promenade. Excellent views of the beach, Table Mountain and Lion's Head. Very comfortable and spacious rooms with the bonus of a large balcony. Lovely staff who couldn't do enough for you and the pool area was luckily largely our own most of the time - would definitely go back again.
- Dalz (9/5): Balfour is a gorgeous Guesthouse. - Absolutely loved the location, staff is friendly. It is really close to the beach and has the best views. I will visit again.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (10/5): Best accommodation of our trip. - Amazing location, fabulous room incredible views Nothing
- Jamie (10/5): Great location! Amazing views! Friendly staff! - Great location! Amazing views! Friendly staff!
- Arihant (6/5): Pleasant - The location and the rooms were great. Pathetic management, upon reaching the hotel I was not given a room until 6 PM and the staff there said we are on renovation and there was a mistake by their manager to stop taking bookings on the app. I had only made the booking same day after confirming it from their manager over call still upon reaching I get to hear that you take refund and book another stay. They said the room was not ready and make all sought of false excuses to refuse us, but as we didn’t had any other place to go we requested to provide us with any available room, and we finally got a room at 6 in the evening, Our full day was ruined because of them. The rooms were in ready condition only but the staff said that the rooms were mess, it’s just they didn’t wanted to give the room clearly because of some other issue, which I don’t know, but this whole chaos spoiled my experience and even 1 day of my vacation
- Louise (10/5): Luxurious get away - The location the pool and the lovely Porcia she was so helpful so polite so caring allowed us to check out a bit late as we were so tired and facing a long haul flight. Thank you Porcia. She makes the best fried eggs 😊 Everything was perfect.
- Ridwaan (8/5): Amazing experience on a special day for my wife and I. - Views from honeymoon suite and prepared breakfast were amazing! Steps to room too long , kettle not great
- Neil (10/5): Fabulous room in a great location - Everything! Great location, 2 minutes walk down to the centre of Camps Bay, fantastic views from the balcony across the bay and to Lions Head. The property is expertly managed by Porsha and David who looked after us. Breakfast was great. We booked the honeymoon suite which was a fabulous space, large bathroom, and balcony. Would definitely book again when visiting Cape Town Nothing
- Stuart (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent large rooms.Good facilities Pool etc Staff Excellent Breakfast cooked to order.Excellent location Lots of stairs
- Trevor (9/5): Great room and views over Camps Bay - Massive room and balcony with superb view over Camps Bay A lot of steps up to the room and slow in responding to messages.
- Michel (8/5): Great - View Nothing
- Amy (5/5): Would not recommend. - The location was perfect, as it was a short walk down to the restaurants and bars along the sea front. The view was stunning. Parking was useful. Pool towels were provided without asking by the sunloungers. Pool view was lovely. Our room (honeymoon suite) smell strongly like stale smoke despite nothing on the website saying it was a smoking room. The staff whilst we briefly saw them, were very friendly, but we did barely see them. This meant we never saw anyone long enough to complain to, as when we did see someone we were in a rush to leave. We also knew the hotel was fully booked so no option to move to another room that didn’t stink of stale smoke. The breakfast was poor. On Saturday we sat down and there was a very basic continental breakfast. After eating yoghurt and fruit we were finally offered some cooked eggs. We thought it was because we were late to breakfast (we arrived at 9:45am but no breakfast timings were ever given or listed anywhere). The next day we went down for breakfast and the same simple buffet was there except this time no staff were around. Had to rummage through cupboards to find more orange juice and the breakfast area was deathly silent. Only a small bit of orange juice is left out and a small bit of milk. If 2 of you have cereal you will use all the milk and there wasn’t anyone around to replace it. Also no one to provide tea/coffee in the morning so we watched other guests trying to work out how to use the coffee machine, nothing to make any tea. Breakfast felt most like a hostel vibe. The location is amazing but I would say the hotel would do better saying breakfast isn’t provided and instead eating elsewhere. We had spent 2 weeks in South Africa at about 5 hotels and this was the worst value for money unfortunately, maybe our expectations were too high, but it seems a lot of the trip advisor reviews are unusual 5* reviews with only 1 contribution from the reviewer seem to bump this hotel rating up higher than it should be.
- Cathleen (10/5): Exceptional - Everything, except the fact there was no elevator. A total of 62 steps to get to our rooms. We were 4 visitors aged 72 to 80. Nothing mentioned about no elevator. Carrying luggage up 62 stairs was impossible. The 62 steps. I RESERVED this on the internet. The website didn't mention the lack of an elevator. If they had, would never have reserved the two roons . See the above response.
- Pekka (10/5): Exceptional - Spectacular view from the balcony
- Cathleen (8/5): Very good - The location of this property was prenominal! Rooms, both the "honeymoon suite and suite, balcony with view were much more than expected! The price also was very reasonable. Breakfast was also very ample and generous. The staff were pleasant and helpful. We were party of four, The Kamstra's and the Lovato's. our ages were 70 to 80. So, you could imagine our distain when we were confronted with the 40+ stairs we had to maneuver without an "elevator," to get to our rooms. This should have been disclosed at your booking site. What would you do if a person was completely unable to "climb" those stairs, which by the way had no handrails? Also, didn't like having to pay extra for water, which wasn't replaced daily. not even at breakfast. In my suite (not honeymoon suite) the electricity continuously went out. Twice I had to take a shower in the dark.
- Aron (4/5): Disappointing - We liked the location of the property as it was close to restaurants and beach area Firstly we carried our own luggage up to the room which was 8 flights of stairs....i ended up hurting my leg...... the place looked tatty and run down
We had to make our own breakfast as there was nobody to be found ...was advertised with mini bar, yet there was only 2 bottles of still water in the fridge
Bath was leaking water
Bed headboard was broken
In general you can see the place isn't well maintained
- Ger (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ose (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (8/5): Very good -
- Sohail (8/5): Very good - View and space of the room was enormous The driveway and stairs. Need full DStv and a smart tv for more entertainment
- Shaquillah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dineo (8/5): Peaceful - with beautiful view - The view was amazing. Overlooking the ocean, you could see the sunset from the venue. The stairs were a bit too much for me. Having to carry your bags to your room on the second floor is too much.
- Diane (8/5): Stunning location and excellent room - great value for money! - Gorgeous room and balcony with sunset views. Great to have a seating area as well as the large and very comfortable bed. Good shower and large bathroom, also separate dressing area which was handy. Excellent location, easy walk to the main street and beach and yet very quiet. Easy parking outside the front door. We didn't use the jacuzzi bath as it didn't seem terribly clean....but that was the only negative, everything else was fab.
- Sarah (9/5): Amazing location, cared for guest house, all round great! - Fabulous location, beautiful guest house, spotless clean. Local to restaurants and buses / taxi Nothing
- Sarah (9/5): Superb -
- Lillian (9/5): Superb - The room was big and clean. The view was spectacular. The fact that our room had a tv but it wasn’t a smart tv. It would great to have a smart tv so that we can watch Netflix, Showmax etc, DSTV doesn’t offer nowadays.
- Notdoneyet (8/5): Outstanding view of camps bay hillside ,lions head and the beach , - Balfour is a cozy two suite Guest house with a capable staff of two. Portia and David kindly take good care of the property and guest's needs.
Our room had lots of space, generous wardrobe , sofa, large TV ,firm bed great pillows , good bathroom and terrific wifi. Deck furniture is minimal likely due to strong winds . There is a nice lounge upon entering and pleasant swimming pool patio.
It is safe and secure location, very close walk to beach and restaurants. There is a steep climb into the property and then more stairs to the Honeymoon suites - top floor . Currently, these are the only rooms let.
Worth it for the view .
- Tammy (9/5): Perfect little getaway in a perfect location - The location, the size of the room and the view The stairs to go up to the property and to the room but that’s to be expected due to location
- Michelle (10/5): Luxurious stay close to Camps Bay night life - Beautiful spacious room with a spectacular view of Camps Bay. The bathroom was also large. My husband and I had the most special time there. Close to great restaurants.
- Laura (7/5): Enjoyable - David and Portia are very helpful and friendly. They made my stay very comfortable, always happy to assist. Location to Camps Bay is great 5 minute walk to the beach and restaurants. Great views over Camps Bay. The stairs to the property can be tricky if you have lots of luggage, need to inform beforehand so David/Portia can assist. Lack of privacy on balcony as the property over looks the road so passers by can see you.
- Mariah (10/5): The stay was delightful and the unit was close to restaurants and grocery stores. - The staff was extremely helpful in carrying up our bags as there are a lot of stairs and the exterior stairs can be slippery when it rains. The breakfast is continental with yoghurt, delicious fruit, cheese, bread, croissants.
We enjoyed our view which was exceptional.
The room is extremely large and the bathtub was a bonus.
There is a small fridge and nespresso machine . Nothing to improve
- Marko (5/5): Too little value for money - Staff was friendly. Breakfast minimalistic considering the rate. Bathroom outdated. Windows needed cleaning.
- Franzi (8/5): Very good - Amazing location with fantastic views over Camps Bay, on road behind the beach!
Safe parking but not gated. Porscha, thank you for a lovely breakfast.
Definitely a good stopover though in a very very expensive Camps Bay! Sadly the place lacks of character. I feel like the place doesn't fulfill it's potential.
Breakfast offerings was too simple in comparison to other guesthouses.
Quite a few steps, be an issue for some.
- Emil (10/5): Amazing - Very spacious and comfortable room with an amazing view over Camps Bay. A short distance from everything you need when staying the night in Camps bay. Great parking opportunity if you are travelling by car. The water pressure was a bit low, but nothing to get upset about really. I have no complains overall, loved our stay.
- Sandra (9/5): Superb - The view is absolutely amazing from the corner balcony with a table and chairs, perfect to chill, have breakfast or dinner. 2-3 min walk to the beach, restaurants and cafes. Billard table and pool were fun.
- Jaco (8/5): Very good -
- Alison (5/5): Disappointing stay after other reviews and the booking.com photos. Would definitely not return - Easy walk into Camps Bay. Room was very large and clean. Good view over Camps Bay and the Ocean. Lots of hot water. 64 stairs from the front of the property to our room. Whilst the host has made light of comments from previous guests, it’s a challenge a) after a long flight with luggage and b) on departure
There is a lot of building work going on in adjacent properties - noise and vehicles
The drive to the building is very steep and the parking is extremely tight - uncomfortably so (only two cars during our stay!)
The building in general is in need of refurbishment
Had almost no contact with staff - the information sheet in the room gave two phone numbers and said staff lived downstairs. We had no idea where or how to find them. Luckily we didn’t need to
Homeless South Africans sleeping overnight in front of the garage next to our hire car
- Michele (10/5): Exceptional -
- Najy (8/5): Very good -
- Karen (7/5): Good -
- Mark (10/5): Beautiful - Loved the location, close to everything. Room size and space. Views were amazing. Nespresso was great and the bathroom was huge Nothing
- Mbumba (8/5): Very good -
- Julie (7/5): Good - The staff were great and the apartment had great views The building was very tired. Ours was the honeymoon suite and if it had been our honeymoon I would have been very disappointed. The electrics were all overloaded in hanging plugs. The tap knob came off in our hand and the skirting boards were rotten. I would not stay again.
- Hannah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (8/5): Very good - Fabulous view. Really close to the main street in Camps Bay, but in a calm side road. Staff is friendly. Everything was fine. To make it even better, the bathroom could be renovated.
- Connie (5/5): My bestie and I met up after 4years so that was awesome - The views The stairs which were not mentioned in preview
The driveway to accommodation
Tv not working
- Erik (10/5): A much needed break in a wonderful part of the world. - Location. View. Room. Portia and Davis are amazing as always.
- David (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location and facilities!
- Jim (9/5): Camps Bay home from home - Balfour place is in a great location a few minutes walk from camps bay seafront. The view from the room was amazing and Portia the housekeeper did a great job of looking after us. The bed was a bit too firm
- Alexander (10/5): Amazing place to stay in Camps Bay! - The view, the amazing staff!
- Karl (8/5): Very good -
- Jiming (10/5): Exceptional - Room is clean and very big, good scenery at the balcony. Very good service.
- Harriet (9/5): Wonderful stay and treated like family by the lovely staff. - Great location. Very helpful staff. The cold floor in the bathroom (and just outside it).
