Guest Reviews
- Jennifer (4/5): - Wotif falsely advertised room as having 2 double beds. The hotel does not have rooms with 2 double beds. Yet we paid for the advertised 2 bed room. The room did have a few holes in the wall and cobwebs in the corner of the room, stained bed cover but clean sheets and towels. The communal showers were filthy. Would not trust Wotif or stay at this hotel again
- Mihajlo Michael (4/5): - The hotel is from long gone by era, but for some reason was not updated along the way and is badly lacking comforts of today (at least in terms of accommodation).
- Grant (8/5): - An older property which has seen better days but for its price, the rooms were large and cosy, staff were friendly and the location was incredibly convenient. Will definitely stay there again.
- Barry (4/5): - Uncomfortable bed. Broken furniture. Cobwebs in room. Awfully cold.
- THOMAS (4/5): - Some country pubs arr charming and nostalgic. This one is not - its just old and dusty. The room rate is about double what it should be. Any wonder i had the place to myself. Avoid.
- Michael (2/5): - Sadly the hotel has had much better days
- Ian (8/5): - Very close to railway station and very quiet.Easy walking distance to all of Goulburns facilities
- Peter (8/5): - It was a reasonable price & in a good position.
- Casey (6/5): - The bedding and sheets were dirty and had stains on them but customer service was amazing
- Garry (6/5): Ordinary - The hotel is nice but the room was pretty ordinary, broken wardrobe door leaning against the wall and the other door with a hole in it. Bed was good. Really creaky old floors so if your neighbour walks around the noise is surprising. Bathrooms are good.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Expedia won’t refund
- Verified traveler (10/5): - old world charm
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great locals, good food and beer, good bed and relaxing place and atmosphere 👍
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Check in was handled by a grumpy and unfriendly bar attendant...no explanation about facilities, entry or exit or anything else. I worked it out, but it left a poor first impression. Room was a good size, but with a lumpy mattress and skanky pillows and doona cover. The room copped a surprising amount of road noise and the window rattled like something possessed if opened. The shared bathroom was daggy but passable. The shared kitchen was also pretty daggy and when I went to make a coffee there were no cups (I used a schooner glass instead). I would not stay again.
- Dianne (6/5): Old pub, you get what you pay for - Old pub, but could do with some maintenance. Creaky floors and gaps in the doors
- Verified traveler (10/5): - It was very clean and excellent service. .....,mmm
- Susan (6/5): Suited our needs - reminded me of hostels in Europ - Average place but you get what you pay for. Mirror in room was covered in dust and room had 'old smell' about it. Reminds me of hostels in Europe but just around the corner from a couple of supermarkets. Suited our need for stop on our way to Melbourne. No lift so had to carry suitcase upstairs. There was a little fridge in an area upstairs where we could put some of our things - this was handy.
- Daniel (8/5): - Cheap and clean. Beds comfortable.
- daniel (6/5): - Very basic
Ok for one night
Toilets and showers Very old could do with complete renovation
- Verified traveler (8/5): Classic Aussie pub stay. - This is a classic Aussie pub stay. Railway theme. Local hangout. Nothing fancy. Comfortable as a traveler. Great verandah! Essential cold beer. Even enjoyed a hot bath. Repeat customer.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Tired, dingy, and worn out. The staff were excellent though and friendly. Lost property (a woman's bra) left in the room. Peculiar musty smell in the room. Bed was comfortable.
- Adam (8/5): Great spot!! - Great place, would stay again for sure!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Great meals for the hungry. Old hotel needs a face lift. Classic country hotel friendlyness
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I enjoy the ambiance of old buildings. the room were great clean and tidy. Staff very helpful .
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I was not told about the free tea/coffee & breakfast.
On leaving I asked for a tax receipt. The staff didn't know how to produce one or couldn't be bothered. I was told it would be emailed to me. Still waiting. But i wasn't given a timeframe so maybe I'll get it someday.
At times i felt that I wasn't welcome.
- Smudge (2/5): - Not a great experience. Maybe our expectations were too high, I don't know. First and foremost, shared bathrooms....think about it. Not big bathrooms, one shower, toilet and sink in each, and being as you can't lock the door very awkward if another guest enters. Worse still, getting warm water was nigh on impossible. First time the water was scalding and impossible to mix in any cold. Second and third time, couldn't get any hot water at all. Our room was stifling hot with one small window (which wouldn't stay open, we had to use a Coke bottle to wedge it open) allowing only a tiny breeze. There was a ceiling fan that didn't seem to help at all and a rickety old floor fan that worked OK if you balanced it just right. The chest of drawers was missing half of it's handles, the wardrobe had a pile of blankets shoved into the bottom of it but the beds were OK. Holes in the ceiling and skirting boards. Cheapest in Goulburn and now we know why. Maybe it's OK for some people but we won't be staying there again, Spend another $20 and get a place with a private bathroom and AC.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Just rundown and no AC
Just rundown and no AC
Just rundown and no AC
Bed was nice
- Kylie (6/5): - It was cute, my kids loved some aspects but it wasn't clean, the hot water didn't work in one shower, the other bathroom had a cupboard which had fallen off and the taps in there didn't work.
The garden and bar areas were nice.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This property was an older style pub, we had booked a room overnight and it was just a double bed and two side tables in a box room. The bed was clean and comfortable but the room was hot and stuffy. This property is outdated with small items broken and misplaced everywhere. The bathroom was communal and relatively clean. The carpet throughout the building was stained and dirty. Also including the typical expectations of staying above a pub, it was quite rowdy downstairs until 12-1 in the morning. Overall, for the price you pay for this stay it is to that expected standard. If I had to stay overnight in Goulburn again I would stay there but for no longer than one night.
- ben (8/5): - good comfortable stay
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Good old colonial style accomodation with basic simplicity at a budget price .
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The feel of the history of the hotell beer was excellent staff very friendly
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I liked Bob. He was a cool dog. Showers were interesting, beer garden was awesome.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - not the Hilton you get what you pay for overall a nice old pub
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Checked into room. Carpet filthy and stained. Didn’t stay went elsewhere
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The staff was very helpful and friendly and the place is very popular but when we went to have a hot shower after driving all day the water went from hot to cold then back hot and cold. Good place to stop if you're young with the pool table and beer garden but for travelers who want a nice hot shower and quiet place to sleep probably not the best
- Verified traveler (6/5): - The shared bathrooms were nice enough.
The walls were peeling in the bedroom and there was no wifi reception in our room but it served its purpose as a place to stay.
Good location and we were able to walk nearly everywhere
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely old school pub with good food and friendly staff. Simple, clean rooms.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Used this as a place to stop driving to Sydney whilst on a budget. For the price, I have zero complaints.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Inexpensive. A little rowdy, but it was a Friday night. Perfect as a stopover for my road trip to Wagga.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Overall was reasonably satisfied with my stay. Got a good deal on price and a bit of a discount so wasn’t expecting the ritz. Stayed for 2 nights and that was probably enough. Good for a short stay or stop off.
Friendly service and bed and shared bathroom were ok. The down side was that the room must have been above or close to kitchen as the smell of fried fat was quite noticeable for the entire time and seemed to have seeped into everything. As mentioned I didn’t pay a lot so probably got what was left. If the smell wasn’t an issue I would definitely recommend for the price, but would probably choose somewhere else next time.
- Kerry (6/5): My stay - It was quite a nice quaint room. The single bed was a little wonky and the showers kept going cold after a minute. I slipped in the morning and hurt my Knee on the floor going out the back to the car park as the staff were almost finished mopping . Might be an idea to put up a sign wet floors. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - JUST A GREAT LITTLE COUNTRY PUB/HOTEL CLOSE TO SHOPS AND RAILWAY STATION AND GREAT STAFF
- One (6/5): - Really appreciated having the electric blanket. Fan heater just ok. Did not make cupcakes as fridge where milk was....was absolutely rank from off food. Staff friendly and helpful.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - I was put in a room over looking the beer garden and people using the beer garden were noisy and stayed until late. the only good thing I will say about this hotel was the food was good value for money. I will never stay here again but I will go back there to eat
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Staff were friendly it was value. Building had character. Bed was great. Everything was spotlessly clean.
But also, one of the main bathrooms was out of order and it was really run down.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I loved the history of the Hotel and the friendly and homey service. I haven't seen the place for at least 30 years and love the effort which has gone into renovations.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location was amazing.
Vibe was unique.
Check-in was confusing, as were the staff (couldn't figure out how to log in on the iPad for about 10 mins)!
Windows don't have curtains, but just light cloth.
My room was right above the bar on a Saturday night, so it was quite loud for a long time!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The hospitality from a resident caretaker Paul was above and beyond .All staff were lovely but will be planning a trip back just to see Paul
- Never (2/5): - Find somewhere else. We walked up, looked around and left. Doesn't feel safe or separate.
- P (6/5): - This property was nice due to its age, but we had a very old wardrobe cabinet in our room that gave off a very old and almost repulsive smell. (Or could have been the old carpet)
This hotel could be something amazing but does need a bit of renovation/overhaul.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Was a nice place to stay. There was no noise from down stairs.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely old building, friendly staff, good Aussie food for dinner, and I was able to make myself a takeaway coffee before I left in the morning.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - No air conditioning; hot water in the shower cut in and out while in use; no shelving in the bathroom for toiletries stowage; no private sitting furniture in room.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - Mouldy dirty dusty room. Wall paper coming off walls with mould Behring it. Looked like water damage. Missing carpet on floor. Bedding was dusty. Stained and tired looking chairs we also dusty. Even if you wanted to use the drawers provided in the room you wouldn’t be able too as the handles were missing and it was difficult to pry them open. Community bathroom was dirty with broken tiles. The shower head wasn’t high enough. We chose to shower with our thongs on due to the scum build up. There was no where to dry our towels in the room and we noticed other guests were using the balcony located outside our rooms to dry there towels. No nappy changing facilities were supplied for guests with babies so the bathroom had dirty nappies in the safe bin so on top of the dirty bathroom you could shower with the lovely smell of baby poop. We chose this morning to get out of there as soon as possible and clean our teeth and do makeup on the side of the road. The hotel let bar patrons up stairs in hotel guest area and those bar patrons decided to drink and party while smoking directly outside of our room on the balcony that looked like a storage area for the hotel trash. Cigarette smoke drifted into our room. My son nor myself or my family have to smell the smoke or mould and dust in our room. The community tea station was extremely dirty. Not enough cutlery and crockery were provide for guests. So this morning before leaving we had to eat our spaghetti out of cups with spoons.
- Bob (8/5): - Beds are super comfy. Light left on in hall shines through all night sadly. Very heavy smell of enamel paint as well.
- Gerry (8/5): - Nice if I visit Goulbourn again I will be back lots of character
- Diane (6/5): Retro & Basic - Not great, no showers in room, as advertised. Shared bathroom & toilet. Not good.
Bed comfortable. No fridge in room.
- Paul (6/5): Probably not first choice - Good - location, room was clean with plenty of space, bed was comfy.
Average - shared bathroom down the creaky hallway. Only small heater in room.
Bad - overpriced for what you get but maybe we left it too late for other options. Still, a room without bathroom or tea / coffee facilities should not be around the $100 mark.
- Verified traveler (4/5): Lack of control - Accommodation and meals okay
Unfortunately, local patrons allowed into guests bathroom to vomit everywhere
- Trevor (8/5): - Unfortunately, we are aged pensioners with ambulatory problems so the stairs were a consideration and quite difficult to negotiate. However, the staff were able to take bags up/down the stairs for which we were very grateful.
The hotel is VERY basic but suited our needs for that part of our journey.
- SJ (6/5): - A country pub with efficient, friendly staff, excellent bistro and reasonable budget option, spoilt by a rather grotty and unclean room.
- julie (6/5): Rustic, character filled hotel. - Room was in desperate need of attention, but this contributed to the charm of the hotel. Beds had electric blankets which was a good thing as the room did not appear to have any other heating. Room was large and had doors out to an amazing verandah that would have been beautiful in its time but has not been maintained. Bathroom is shared and was fine but shower floor was a bit scary and vanity door was hanging off. Overall we stayed one night on route to our destination and the experience was unique, I would love to see some money spent on the building as it must have been spectacular in its time.
Try the food downstairs it was really good and well priced!
- Susan (4/5): Southern Railway Hotel. - Rooms were small. Beds comfortable.Hotel patronnoise was heard in room. Old but clean bathroom facilities. Meal was excellent value.
- katelyn (10/5): Lovely hotel close to town - I loved that it was just a small walk to the shops train station wasn’t far.the rooms where very spacious and had the old feeling to it. I live the antiques in the room. My son loved the fluffy blankets in the bed.
- mel (10/5): Hotel with old world charm - Stopped of for a night.... memorabilia a plenty of a time gone by ... the kids had great time exploring .., rooms comfy and spacious really enjoyed our time here
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great place to eat sleep and drink and great staff
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A nice old hotel. Bathroom amenities were a bit average but the room was great! A very clean room - the bed was terrific. Would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Perfect for a quick stopover on your way down to the snow.
- Verified traveler (8/5): great overnight stop on drive to Sydney - Great warm atmosphere. Just as expected: nothing to flash but everything we needed, cozy and easy on drive to Sydney.
- Domitri (8/5): Nice local Hotel - Very friendly with staff tea coffee toast facilities available very clean .Queen bedroom very large and comfortable located opposite Railway Station with off street parking.
- Verified traveler (4/5): No toilet, no bathroom - No toilet, no bathroom, Shared shower no privacy at all
- stumpy (8/5): - I found the hotel to be a excellent example of a country type pub and not a flashy all bells and whistles type city hotel. Excellent meals and drinks to be had at a leisurely pace with friendly locals.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - A bargain price .An old pub with character The room was large, very comfortable and nicely fitted out.For an old pub I found it very clean
- ebo (4/5): Noisy - 2 nights long enough. Room was located above smoking area where groups would congregate and talk aloud,In addition to the music box
