- BILL (10/5): - I have stayed at the Bear on several occasions and I always enjoy my visits. It's a wonderful place to relax, with comfortable rooms, good food and friendly and helpful staff.

The restuarant and bar were good (and very popular "conservatory" area at its heart (lunch and dinner were busy). Food options walkable nearby. Breakfast across road in Penny Farthings - very good. The room was small but gave good night's sleep, being quiet. Some minor issues with room (blinds, lights, washbasin design), but overall this was a very good stay. Have been before and will use again

Staff and hotel were excellent, the kids bed was a bit small and uncomfortable for a 10 year old but the overalll stay was great and food was lovely in the restaurant. We didn’t get to try breakfast unfortunately as we had to leave at 7.30am and breakfast didn’t start till 8am

There was a leak in the restaurant so had food in the lounge which was fine and service was excellent. room was just a little bit of a disappointment, bit tired looking but spotlessly clean and presented.

I had a room on the front - spacious, good bed linen, sparkling water and shortbread etc. Good shower (over bath). No noise from road overnight. Very cosy bar area where I ate and superb food. Can see why this would be a great place to dine in summer. I didn’t make breakfast as chose to have a lie in before heading to the office but I’ve seen it’s good

Wine list was London prices (but we were in South Wales). Inclusive breakfast in Penny Farthing opposite was fantastic. Would stay here again but book for dinner in the Duke of Wellington pub opposite.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very nice hotel , fabulous restaurant food - Very Nice friendly hotel with a fabulous restaurant serving delicious food. My room was at the back of the building and was quiet. The room was bright, nice and clean. The only issue I had was that people were smocking outside by the entrance of the building just below my room window. Had to shut the window as smoke was coming in the room. Need to have a designated smocking area away from the rooms.

- Craig (6/5): Nice food, average stay - Food was good and service was faultless, especially in the restaurant. Manager and waiter were brilliant. Room was a little disappointing. We were directly above the lounge and could hear the music until midnight. Also noisy road outside with it being on the main high street. Floor in the room was on a slant which was slightly off putting. Tv felt a mile for the bed on the opposite side of the room.

- Caroline (8/5): Amazing staff - We had a lovely 3 night stay. Our room was a wow to look at but not overly practical. The bathroom could do with a shelf to put our toiletries on. (instead we had to use the top of the loo) A light fitting above the large mirror was present but we couldn't see how it worked. If at all. A good powerful hairdryer, but the plug socket was too far away to sit at the dressing table. The room was clean, but attention to details were a little lacking. Thick dust on the bathroom extractor, dust on plug socket tops etc. The shower screen was clean but build up around the hinges. The four poster bed was beautiful to look at, but we found it a little uncomfortable. (personal taste). It was also quite noisy when turning during the night. Now I'm not suggesting that my review should put off anyone staying here, we would come back in a heartbeat! It's to draw attention for the management to address. The staff were absolutely amazing, so friendly and attentive. I even received a birthday card . The food was top notch. Overall the whole place had a relaxing vibe. It kind of gave you a hug. Thank you team Bear, we hope to be back soon.

Car park a bit tricky to find - but the instructions on hotel website are very clear and better than Sat Nav. Didn’t fancy walking to another establishment so skipped breakfast ( but that was my choice due to time pressures)

I was pleasantly surprised as to the overall quality and service and of their staff. We found the room super comfortable. Excellent bed. Great pillows and just what we needed after a week at a less than stellar air BnB. Book your stay at this wonderful establishment. Eat at their restaurant and enjoy all that they have to offer. If we are back in the area the Bear will be at the top of our places to stay in the future.

- Sonia (6/5): - My room was above the cube and courtyard which I found noisy at 10.30 at night. I had the windows open for fresh air and to keep cool as the duvet was not a summer one and therefore my sleep was an interrupted sleep. The staff were very attentive and polite.
- Dana and Charles (8/5): A charming hotel in the heart of Cowbridge - This is a charming hotel. We were on the third floor in an alcove room. The free breakfast is at their sister restaurant across the street, The Penny Farthing, which was cute and delicious. We were happy with just about everything except that our toilet was leaking across the floor and one of the showers I took was cold. We later found out that there was a problem with the hot water and that they fixed it. The location was great for shopping and walking along the main street in Cowbridge.

I stayed for business and the hotels Wi-Fi was awful, meaning I couldn’t do the work I’d planned to and the mobile reception in the town was equally bad. So while the location was lovely it was a very frustrating overnight stay!!
- Adrian (6/5): - Stayed in the cottage. Beds were atrocious. Springs could be felt right through the mattress. Shocking really. Very pleasant otherwise, but the shoddy beds ruined the experience. I’m not a complainer, but this was unacceptable.

Only very slight negative on room, was that on our first night, we could only get luke-warm water from the shower. Ate in the restaurant and meal was good quality overall. Service in restaurant was a little slow and lacking some attention to detail but pleasant all the same. Will happily return to stay here again, and plan to do so.

Room really good size and the shower was amazing. Every thing just as you want for a quick overnight stay. Parking easy and the breakfast was fab and again dog friendly.

Slight issues...Toilet had a push button flush which occasionally stuck and for some reason our window had been screwed shut. However, a great place to stay and relax, we would stay there anytime.

Unsure if I got the room paid for as a wedding was on and placed in first room of long corridor! Still very well presented but had a lot of traffic past door through out the night and window overlooked the Main Street with single glazed windows! Quality sleep time was the down fall!

- Greg (4/5): Need to pay attention to comfort of guests. - I had a very disappointing stay here for a couple of reasons: 1) the room only had shutters which did not block out the light of some floodlights on the building behind keeping me up much of the night. 2) The room was very cold even with the heating on. 3) The wi-fi was unreliable. I also had a bad meal in the restaurant. I ordered a pasta dish which literally only had 10 pieces of pasta in it and some tomato sauce for £13! They gave me some free bread to make up for it.

Breakfast across the road at the Penny Farthing was rushed on the Tuesday morning; much better on the Wednesday morning. Will recommend to others.
- Rob (6/5): Self Catering, So Hotel Won't Answer Your Queries - I am reviewing The Cider House apartment. Firstly I must make it clear that it's located across road from hotel, so bear this in mind if you have a lot of luggage. This accomodation is spacious and comfortable and would suit a family of 4 or two couples. It has everything you require, if you are the type to get away from the sometimes hustle and bustle of the hotel. We booked and thought it was located on the hotel premises( not made clear) and we felt slightly neglected during our stay. We had a couple of concerns during our visit and called reception, no reply, so left message. I got my answer two days later. If you're over 5'7 be aware that the door frames are low throughout, some call it quaint, I call it a nuisance being 6'4. Outside our front door was an exposed key cabinet, concerned it could have a master key for our door, we called reception for reassurance, but no response. The TV didn't work, this was just a quick watch before bed with a coffee, but had chat instead. The bed was very comfortable but was awaken on Sunday morning at 05.40 by a delivery across the road, not caring for anyone who may be sleeping. Pump truck dragging across his flatbed and cages being unloaded was my wake-up call. After chatting to the hotel before writing this review, they said " it's something that been going on for a long time and out of their control". So if you're stopping, pack your ear plugs. Seeing it a lot lately but what happened to "How was your stay" etc when you depart?
- Carl (8/5): Bear with it - Good character hotel - staff very helpful. Room (Cider suite) was fairly nice as an apartment - although you have to cross the high street outside the hotel. Breakfast is in an actual cafe/cake shop - so different to a standard hotel. Room was comfortable - if a little noisy when the pubs emptied!
- Anne (8/5): - Spacious 2 bedroom apartment, lovely welcome breakfast pack (bacon, eggs, bread, milk) choice of cereals & tea, hot choc & biscuits too, all complimentary. Apartment is across the road, down small alleyway and up some steep steps to a outdoor area. Would've been awkward if people in other apartment as you have to walk through their outdoor space. The smoke alarm is near cooker so bacon sandwiches at 1am woke everyone!!! Also, large ventilators on the roof at back of apartment woke me just before 7am! There's a pub/cafe below apartment and they're busy with breakfasts etc.

- Julie (8/5): Lovely place to visit, nice hotel - Main areas fabulous, rooms good - but bed (& pillows) like rocks! Had no soft(er) pillows, so sadly awful sleep. Rooms had fans because they were so hot - windows overlooked eating area, so had to be closed all the time. Tea tray sticky, a good sugar-soaping everywhere in the room would be good. Restaurant fabulous, food top-class, staff great. So not all bad.
- Grant (4/5): - The check in was pleasant and the hotel surroundings and hotel itself was something to admire. The issue I had was with booking food for the evening. I have spent over £100 to stay in your room and was told that dinner was available at the restaurant. I showered after a hard days work away from home and made my way down to eat, I was then greeted my a young lad, pleasant in the way he approached and I asked if I could seat down to eat and order a few drinks and some food. It’s important I eat regularly as I’m a type 1 diabetic. I was then greeted by a lady who I was abruptly told there were no tables ( I could see at least 10 outside )I was looked up and down and then reassured there was no tables. I then advised her I was stopping at the hotel and that reception had told me there was a place to eat an evening meal. Again there alerts no tables. I had dinner at Mac Donald’s. A good stay
- William (10/5): Great stay at The Bear - Super stay at The Bear. The hotel is superb - made by the excellent staff. All of them were friendly, had time to talk to us and made a good hotel into a great Hotel. The new outside ‘Cube’ restaurant is a great feature. Highly recommended.
