- Stuart (9/5): Lovely relaxing stay - Very quiet and in a lovely area. Rooms were clean and well kept and warm but bright and airy.
The lounge and bar were spacious and relaxed as was the breakfast room and the gardens were lovely.
The owners were friendly and helpful and staff too.
Lots of lovely walks a stones throw from the hotel too.
Happy with my choice and would stay again
- Retha (10/5): Absolutely amazing! -
- Catherine (10/5): Enjoyable stay. Good food and friendly staff - Breakfast was excellent. Food great. Staff very efficient and friendly. Location lovely. Bus stop outside which is great as not an easy walk to and from hotel as steep walk in places. Close to Meadfoot beach which is nice. No complaints.
- Deborah (9/5): Relaxing, comfortable and enjoyable. - Excellent choice of breakfast. Really nice dining room. Very friendly staff. NA
- Rod (7/5): -
- David (8/5): - Excellent Staff & Food
- Trevor (9/5): Great food and super staff. - Super choice. Smoked salmon and scrambled egg is not on many breakfast menus! No probs.
- NICK (9/5): - Good breakfast and nice friendly helpful staff
- Simon (10/5): Amazing - Breakfast was absolutely lovely, the owners and staff were very friendly and helpful 😀 The long walk up the hill to the hotel 🤣🤣

- Mark (10/5): Best hotel stay everything great - The hotel was the best iveever stayed in lovely rooms very clean it had a lovely garden the hotel was by the beach the breakfast was great the staff couldnt do enough for you Sorry but i loved everything our stay was just fantastic
- John (8/5): A comfortable hotel, good value, only a short walk from the harbour area. - Breakfast was good, and dinner was excellent. Staff were friendly and efficient. There was a good-sized lounge for guests , and a large garden We had a "cosy double". It had adequate space, but next time I might pay more for a standard double.
- Ingham (10/5): -
- Katja (10/5): - Das sehr nette Personal, gutes Essen, top Frühstück Da gab es nichts
- christine (10/5): Very friendly, very helpful staff, very clean, we enjoyed our stay. - The breakfast was very good. You had plenty of choice No view
- Camilla (9/5): -
- Anne (8/5): The staff were friendly - All the staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was very clean, the food was excellent but a bit too much if you had the cheese and biscuits! Lovely walk in shower, that's coming from someone who hates showers! The duvet! I hate them! We wanted a room on the ground floor which we had. I was disappointed that we had to pay for an upgrade. When I booked it I had an ordinary room upstairs but when we checked out there was an addition for the room change that we had not been notified about. As the room was very dark, felt cold and the window was draughty it shoild have been a down grade!
- Edward (9/5): I enjoyed my stay with the main highlight being the excellent cuisine. - The meals were superb. The hotel grounds are very attractive. The staff are friendly and helpful. Overall the hotel is comfortable and relaxing. No lift, so may be an issue for guests for some guests. The hotel is in an elevated location from the town centre, so something of a climb for guests on foot.

- Emma (10/5): - Staff very friendly
- Sabina (10/5): -
- hall (7/5): - The food was excellent.
Staff friendly and efficient
Hotel very clean and well looked after The room was tiny.
The bed very uncomfortable
The shower and bathroom very small
- Antony (8/5): - This hotel is really good place to stay. The rooms are very clean and fresh and the beds are very comfortable. The food is excellent and the staff are very friendly. We reLly enjoyed are 2 night stay and will be definitely returning in the near future.
My only criticism is that the bar was not open at 9.45 on the evening on our second night. They close it if there is no one drinking, but this is no good to people returning to the hotel at night expecting to have a nice drink before bed. The hotel should ensure it is definitely open until 11pm to facilitate this. Other guests expressed the same feelings and disappointment.
- Bergin (10/5): -
- geoffrey (7/5): All good except for the points raised above - It’s old world charm The cosy room was very cramped the toilet / bathroom door hit the bed so did not open fully .we were sat outside near the restaurant one afternoon from the middle window above the restaurant came a torrent of foul words from a women in the room she was swearing at her husband / partner she came to the window looked at me and said what are you F- -king looking at we then left the area as had other guest in the garden not what you would expect ?? Also the restricted parking was a pain and although guest were asked to park within the mark lines some did not do this so what would have been a parking space was not available These points spoilt our stay to a degree
- Deborah (8/5): Just what I needed for one night stay - Lovely grounds. Nice and peaceful. Great breakfast . Nothing
- John (10/5): -
- carl evans (8/5): - Good breakfast.
- Michael (10/5): Relaxed vacation within easy reach of the beach. - Quiet location a lovely garden with plenty of seating non-smoking areas (though someone didn’t think it applied to vaping) signs stating No Smoking Here should be updated to include Vaping also.
Apart from that incident the three days relaxing at the Hotel Balmoral were idyllic.
There is a bus stop outside the hotel driveway with regular service to Torquay Harbour.
Across the road the Hotel Osborne is located above Meadfoot Sea Road Beach and is welcoming to non-residents lovely terraces with cafe bar a more lively situation with beautiful views. Along the beach is a flat footpath approximately 1 kilometre which makes a nice promenade after breakfast. Garden is above the road and some noise but not too intrusive the surrounding trees and birds more than make up for the traffic noise which is not continuous.

- Susan (9/5): We loved it so much we stayed on an extra couple of days. - Beautiful, quiet, peaceful. Lovely gardens. Amazing food and very friendly staff. Bedroom was a bit small with a view of a wall and a flat roof. The shower space was tiny and the water hard to regulate. Not enough to detract from the overall experience though.
- Nadia (9/5): -
- RICHARD (10/5): Excellent stay, great location, great food, I will be staying there again… - Location was excellent, 3min to the beach and cafe to the right when you walk out the hotel and 10min walk to Torquay town centre turning left from the hotel, with a bus stop just out side if you wanted to save yourself on the walk to town centre. Host was wonderful and very friendly, staff was impeccable, food was excellent and a different menu every evening, if you wanted a bit of peace and quiet then the gardens around the back were the perfect place to relax. I can’t fault the hotel excellent and would urge anyone wanting to spend a few days in Torquay to stay there… My room was a little too small for myself but I was travelling solo and I’m used to a larger room.
- dean (10/5): - Fantastic location, friendly staff, great food. We will be back.
- Sarah (10/5): Food was excellent and staff were friendly and helpful - Good location, clean everywhere and good value First room I was shown didn’t have a window looking out (was patterned glass), but changed room easily.
- Beverley (7/5): - The location was excellent I wasn't offered help to take my luggage to my room (2nd floor).
I felt the staff were quite disinterested, were there to do a job but not to make your time special.
- Jason (8/5): -
- Lynne (8/5): Can we come again !!!! - We really enjoyed our stay, the garden is very attractive and the communal areas provide comfort .The tea is served in pristine white china and is beautifully presented.
The Dining room, the same attention to detail , freshly cooked breakfast awaits you with plentiful tea and coffee. Our cosy room was a little small probably would help to have a stool which could go under the table , perhaps a mirror there too however, very clean and comfortable with nice view over the garden.
- Susan (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay and look forward to going again , very friendly hotel - Really nice food and choice .cooked breakfast very good I was reassured very well the food was all nut free as I have an allergy No negative things, maybe tissues in room would be nice and a bit more milk?
- Stefan (10/5): - Ausstattung, Qualität, Atmosphäre
- John (10/5): - Excellent break. We will return
- Ken (4/5): Stayed for weekend in August, I’m not a moaner, but there were a few little things, there was no air conditioning or fan - Very short bus ride to town No air conditioning or fan, room was too warm, no mini fridge, no sockets near the bed to charge phones, stain in the shower tray, no cup or glass to rinse mouth in the bathroom, tv didn’t work properly, doors were ill fitted had to slam to close.
- Mark (10/5): Blinding - Excellent All good
- James (10/5): Peaceful - It was a marvellous place to stay close to the sea as well as the town but very peaceful when you need to relax. Great breakfast.
- Gwynne (8/5): - The room we had was extremely Small and no shelves in the bathroom ,we asked to move to a bigger room but the hotel was full. The food was excellent and all the staff were helpful and friendly. We would return but look to have a larger room.
- Ian Barry (8/5): - Adults only.Supurb location. Not enough vegetarian options on the dinner menu.
- Ian Barry (8/5): - Staff, location , Adults only. Not enough vegetarian options on dinner menu's.
- john (10/5): - we loved the food the hotel the staff were brilliant nothing to much trouble cannot find big thank you toalex Sam Owen Lynn and all the staff we were happy with everything
- Baker (9/5): - The hotel, grounds and fòod Nothing
- Louise (7/5): Pleasant - Gardens Bedroom and bathroom were small
- JOAN (10/5): A family run Hotel Excellent service - As the bedroom we had booked Basic double room verry small and due to the hot weather we asked if there was a larger room available ,as we were there for a few days transfered the next morning to up graded room . The smaller bedrom
- adrian (10/5): good value for money and excellent staff - breakfast and
- Simon (9/5): -
- Lawton (10/5): - Staff above and beyond Nothing
- Steven (10/5): Fantastic relaxing stay and all the staff were friendly and helpful. Cannot fault. - It’s was clean, stylish and quiet with a lovely garden. Good parking both in the car park and just outside on the road (free).
- david (9/5): -
- Keith (6/5): - Hotel location and decor, meals were very good 👍 Our room was a bit on the small side and the en suite was noisy when the extractor fan was on, and was on a long time after the switch was off, other than that it was fine
- ADRIAN (8/5): -
- Paolo (2/5): Not value for money! Unbelievable how the hotel is rated in Booking.com - Breakfast was good The room was terrible! Old, small and window on the kitchen smell.
- Seth (10/5): Exceptional hotel, food and staff. - Alex on reception and all staff were very friendly, and helpful and knowledgeable. The hotel was very clean, well lit. The food was amazing. Everything was wonderful
- M. John (9/5): Comfortable and relaxing. - Breakfast and supper were excellent and the menu for supper changed nightly. The room and bathroom was small.
The location was on top of a hill therefore steep walking whichever way!
- Tony (10/5): -
- Helene (9/5): -
- Anthony (8/5): Lovely location, garden facilities and staff at a fair price. - Very good breakfast and polite staff, plus overall a vfm experience. N/A
- Paul (10/5): Would definitely stay again next time I’m in the area - The property was spotless. I don’t think I’ve stayed in a cleaner hotel. The staff were friendly, the breakfast was nice and the bed was comfy.
- Lorna (6/5): - It was a lovely area, and they people were extremely friendly.
- Emma (10/5): Fantastic food and wonderful staff! - Fantastic setting, great base. But the icing on the cake was the wonderful food. Are at the hotel every night! Great staff. The food and staff.
- Philip (8/5): Hotel Balmoral - 3 nights stay - Charming hotel in pleasant location close to nice beach with delightful garden area.
Room 19 on first floor was clean and adequate for 3 night stay. Ensuite was 'bijoux' but could do with a bit more shelving/storage. Would probably chose a different room if staying longer.
Public rooms excellent as was food, Good bar with reasonable prices and staff efficient and helpful. Bus into town from just outside entrance was useful.
Would recommend.
- William (10/5): Traditional style hotel with traditional high standards - excellent. - Food excellent, hotel very well kept, staff excellent, no dogs seen! V nice bar and lounge, lovely garden area. For the price - nothing.
- kerri (9/5): -
- Craig (9/5): Relaxed, clean and Friendly - Friendly Staff and great Breakfast. Parking was a little of an issue, but I do have a big car. Limited parking
- Sandro Schweiz (8/5): - Parkplatz vorhanden.
- Susan (7/5): - Cozy and quite next to beach ⛱️ Nice breakfast 😋 friendly staff
- Filday (10/5): Classic, comfortable and hope to return soon - Olde world charm and comfort. Lindy made us feel so welcome and her local knowledge was invaluable. Location was superb. Peaceful and relaxing We missed out on dinner. Hope to return for dinner.

- Simon (7/5): - Nettes Personal
- trackmanAndy (10/5): Fantastic location, wonderful staff, great food, near quiet beach -worth repeat visits. - Very comfortable room, fan available if in a heatwave! A good selection of items for Breakfast, both as self serve and as ordered. Dinner menus, changing each evening were wonderful - difficult to choose which to order if only there for two nights. Service exemplary and chef is always to make little changes if you require. Beautiful garden with a good choice of seats/tables/recliners etc. 4 way power extension block in room - difficult to reach.
- David (9/5): Very relaxing. Friendly, attentive staff. - Location was quiet. Garden great to sit out in. Could hear music from breakfast and dining room at 7.30am and after 10.00 in the evening It was hot so all the windows were open so would recomend it is played at a lower volume then, as I would expect you do not hear it when the double glazing is shut.
