Guest Reviews
- Jocelyne (6/5): - Unfortunately, communication wasn’t clear at times. If traveling with a lot a luggage take a water bus … there are a lot of small bridges and stairs. I checked in at the hotel, left my bags there to get my mom and my glasses were stolen. When I asked if they had found anything, of course they said no. Other than that things were fine.
- susan (4/5): - We had an issue with the AC leaking a fair amount of water. We couldn’t use one of the units which made it very hot in the apartment- particularly one of the bedrooms. I notified them within 40 minutes of our arrival. They indicated because it was Friday afternoon, it might be hard to find someone to fix it. We heard nothing back. We checked out Tuesday morning.
The floor was not very clean. There were pieces of mop in many places. Some of the dishes had to be cleaned before they could be used.
It is on the main path and was very convenient to the city, train station, and restaurants.
- Robin (10/5): Great stay👍 - Our stay at Casa Delle Ortensie was great. Fantastic location on the main street of Venice. Apartment was actually really quiet eventhough the main street was full of people. I highly recommend this to everyone. I reccommend max 4 persons. We stayed there for 3 nights.
- Karine (10/5): - Sejour parfait
Super recomendo.
- Rob (10/5): Quite central location in Venice - Great location in a not so touristy area compared to others. Nice property and very quiet given location.
Bed was so comfortable and aircon was good. Did have to keep pressing the max button to get it cold but no issues.
Great location
- Jean (8/5): Great location - Centrally located near everything. The unit was a 5-10 minutes walk away from all the major Venice sights. The room was clean but lots of noise from its central location. Dishe cleanliness was not the greatest but otherwise, very clean. It advertises with free wifi but there are none to be found in the unit which affected my confort rating. Lots of planning goes in those trips nowaday, requiring reliable internet connection. There's no front desk as it is located 5-10 minutes away!
- Charlene (4/5): - The apartment is directly on the Main Street. Excellent location. Easy to find. Close to almost everything. Dining, culture and shopping right out the door!
The apartment was not well looked after. Not very clean. We wore socks all the time as the floors were dirty and had damaged areas in many places. The walls showed lack of upkeep.
Mosquitoes seemed to appear all the time. There were some dead in the holes in the wall when we first entered. The bathroom was okay. Kitchen well supplied.
- Shaji (10/5): Great [lace to stay in Venice - The apartment was clean and spacious. It was well equipped with household items. The apartment was only a short walk to many main areas of Venice.
The host was very good at communication and made us feel welcome.
Highly recommend this place to anyone.
- Julie (8/5): More information about checkin would have been nic - The apartment was very nice. We enjoyed the amenities and location. I was though very worried and felt the check in process was not the greatest. We arrived late in the evening due to a delay in our flight from Paris and it was nerve racking walking 10mins in the dark to punch in a code and find a key. A nice note would have gone along way seeing that the lock on the door is historic and took us 10minutes to figure out.
- Enrique (6/5): - Good communication for check in process. Local fees paid via hyperlink sent via WhatsApp. Instructions were clear. We located the room easily.
The room itself, a 2 bedroom suite was comfortable. Good heating during the cold winter in November 2022. The kitchen had a dishwasher, laundry machine, pots and pans. Very convenient. The master bedroom had a working TV which was great for watching the world cup games.
I am giving this establishment an overall low rating due to the dirty state in which we received the room. The main bedroom had bugs smashed on the walls and floors were dirty all over the apartment. A short walk barefoot on the apartment proved to be a serious mistake. It looked as if this room received a very superficial clean job prior to our arrival. Thankfully linens and towels were clean.
We were provided a very small amount of toiletries which required a visit to the supermarket nearby on the same road.
What broke the camel's back (or my back I should say) was the master bedroom matteess which was too soft and indented. One rents a room for the main purpose of sleeping and unfortunately I was not able to do so comfortably. The mattress appeared to be two twin beds put together to make one bigger bed. I tried sleeping on both twin mattresses and they were just awful.
These challenges were reported promptly and subsequently ignored.
I could live with the dirty floors and walls... But not being able to sleep comfortably is not acceptable.
- Cesar (10/5): - Centraly located, has all the amenities needed to make the stay comfortable..
- Jazmyn (10/5): - Great location close to everything! Enrico was so nice at Check-in!!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Loved the location, cleanliness, comfort level, and ease of booking. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to be near the action with some separation from the crowds of tourists.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely spacious property in an excellent position; near to shops, restaurants & bars.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location! The property itself worked well for our needs.
- Jason (10/5): - Fantastic location. 5 minute walk to Rialto Bridge. 15 minute walk to train station. 12 minutes to St. Mark's Square. 7 minute walk to the bus for the alley and the islands. Tons of space. Fast internet.
- Muhammad Toqeer (10/5): Super cool in Hot boiling weather - Wonderful stay at prpperty. Open the apartmeny door and you are in middle of downtown. Ferry 1 & 2 stops not far away. Super AC in both rooms are big advantage. Kitchen is great. We enjoye a lot at this property. We will again book this property on our next trip to venice. Thanks Anna & Francesca for great hospitality. Cheers
- jocelyn anne (8/5): Very clean; very good location - Very good location and our room was right in front of Palazzo Vecchio. Claudia and the other lady who worked in the place were very welcoming and accommodating. Breakfast is served in the room every morning. Water and juice in the refrigerator were on the house and replenished daily. Very clean and spacious accommodation.
There were some molds in the shower that should be easy to clean.
Just be ready to carry your luggage through several flights of stairs.
- Eileen (4/5): Don't Choose This Apartment - The apartment is poorly maintained. Bathroom vent is covered with dust. Air conditioners do not work. Frying pan is dented badly. The most ridiculous thing is that guests are required to dump the trash after the stay. Finding the dumpsite is an impossible task as there is no physical dumpsite. You have to go to a certain pier at a certain time to wait for the trash boat to come by. I would advise against choosing this apartment.
- Edwin (10/5): - Excellent place to stay in Venice. The property is close to all the places of interest. It's the closest thing be living as a local resident, with accessibility to supermarket and local artisan shops. We would definitely stay in this apartment the next time we visit Venice again.
The staff is super friendly, especially, Francesca who suggested the best places to go around Venice besides the touristy areas.
- Katie (10/5): Fantastic location with excellent facilities - Fantastic location, extremely spacious, excellent kitchen facilities and spotlessly clean. The shower had great pressure and the heating was easily controlled with a thermostat. They even provided a bedside crib for our 5 month old which was comfy and looked brand new.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Location was great
Property was clean and comfortable.
The best part of this place was how the girl was so helpful and communicative with us. She gave us a map that highlighted the popular areas to visit and the places she recommended for us to eat. We wouldn’t have been able to get around without that Map! I commend them for that.
The only downfall was the city tax fee and cleaning fee that they charged us the moment we arrived the property. It might have been in the fine print somewhere but we were definitely surprised and discouraged. It should definitely be included the moment you pay your dues through Expedia.
Overall great stay.
- Michael (8/5): Pleasant place - would certainly stay again. - Nice little flat where we enjoyed a pleasant stay. We mostly self-catered as there are several bakeries and two small supermarkets within a very short walk. Handy for Rialto, Fondamenta Nuove, and SAnta Sofia Traghetto over the Grand Canal to San Polo & Santa Croce districts. Small kitchen but OK for two. Microwave and Nespresso pod coffee machine included in kitchen. We were on second floor so two flights of stairs to negotiate. TV only in living room; would have been nice to have one in the bedroom too. Sofa bed in living room was not very comfortable for evening TV watching. Kettle didn't work very well, it kept switching off before it boiled. We met the staff at 'Al Portico' guesthouse, approx half-way to Casa delle Ortensie from the bus station.
- Jason (4/5): - If you can arrive and check in the hotel, it would be an average old room. It’s about 15 min walk from the train station unless you are well aware of water taxi stations. Washing machine was broken and refrigerator was really small, one or two bottles of water would be OK. I was very disappointed.
- Meera (10/5): - If I ever return to Venice, I'll try to stay here again. Check in and check out at Al Portico (the parent hotel of the apartments) was easy. I opted to check in at Al Portico. Francesca was able and willing to answer all my questions and was keen to share her personal favourites in the city. I followed her advice on places she recommended for food and they were excellent.
The apartment was in a fantastic location. 5 minutes walk from Rialto, 15 minutes from the station. 2 minutes from the Grand Canal water bus and 5 minutes from the Fundamenta Nuova water bus (for Morano/Burano). You felt like you were in the Venetians' Venice, despite being on the main thoroughfare between the station and Rialto/St. Marco.
There are restaurants and bars on Strada Nova but the windows are completely sound proof so you can have a very peaceful sleep in a very comfortable bed! Good amenities (dishwasher, fridge, washing machine) and good shower.
Great ice cream across the road. A short walk to the amazing food on Misericordia. I wouldn't bother with the restaurants close by. These are very much tourist restaurants!
There is a Co-Op supermarket 5 minutes away. Being able to sit and have breakfast in the apartment, before heading out for the day, made it feel like home away from home.
Staying here is a great choice!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Great Find in the heart of Venice - What a fantastic location within walking distance to all the key tourist areas. The apartment was great! Very clean and comfortable and well set up to accommodate up to 4 people. We were greeted by their friendly staff even though we arrived late. They provided us with all the information we needed to navigate through Venice. The apartment is close to supermarket and numerous restaurants and bars. Well set up to prepare your own meals if you so choose. They even provided storage for our luggage after checkout as our flight was a late evening departure. I highly recommend Casa Delle Ortensie!! Thank you for making our stay in Venice perfect!
- Yuri (10/5): - Staff was very helpful, and the apartment is in a great location
- Julianne (10/5): Spacious, clean, terrific location - This was a great location and perfect for a family of four with two teenagers. We had plenty of space, a large kitchen, a washing machine (so nice!), wifi, air conditioning, and bustling Venice right outside our door. We walked everywhere in the city, and found refuge in our rooms when we needed to cool off and relax. Beds were comfortable and rooms were clean. We were walked to the location by friendly staff who also offered info about Venice. Would definitely stay there again.
- Enrique (10/5): Very good. I recommend it. - The location is perfect. Francesca gave us the welcome. She is very nice and very good in advising about area around, and the better way to get there.
Keep in mind you should pay cleaning fee.
I fully recommend Casa delle Ortensie.
- Chantrice (10/5): Hidden gem! - Amazing place to stay! The location is perfect, you can walk to everything or take water bus. Very easy to get to from airport if you take the bus and then water bus. The air conditioner worked great as well. Very comfortable to stay in and had everything we needed. Will 100% stay here again.
- Emily (10/5): - Very nice perfect loation n the main street, awesome, I really eecomend it. Good comunication wirh the owner. I will come back again if i have to
- Verified traveler (8/5): Great value, great location, spacious NOT fancy. - Overall, very good. Great value overall considering that you're in a good section of Venice. Beds not very comfortable -- I hate the crack in the middle of a "double bed". Steep stairs to the bathroom should have a hand rail for safety. I had to carry heavy bags up three steep flights of stairs. No one offered to help. Otherwise pleased.
- Md Amir Irwan (10/5): Just love it! - Simply fantastic!
- m (10/5): PERFECT LOCATION! - We loved our stay! The managers are super friendly, the kitchen is very well appointed, and the location is perfect -- so easy to access from Piazzale Roma and in my favorite area of the city, no less (I previously stayed Dorsodouro and much prefer Cannaregio). Also in terms of location it's very easy to find supermarkets nearby which make cooking even easier. And yes, cooking in Venice is a priority for me when I'm there because, let's be honest, Venice isn't exactly known for its food and it's hard to find a reasonably priced seat somewhere that isn't a tourist trap selling bland spaghetti and/pr pizza.
- Christine (8/5): Great - Great location. You open the door right into lots of vendors and stores and restaurants. Nice clean place big place. Great location. Downside on the 3rd floor with no lifts/elevators if you have a lot of luggage.
- Lucy (10/5): Value for money - Big apartment with 2 big rooms & full cooking facilities. Good location in Venice. Recommended to stay as value for money
- Peter (10/5): Great Apartment in Venice. - Great apartment located within easy walking distance of the Rialto Bridge. Very spacious, comfortable with kitchenette and laundry facilities, TV, Wifi, Excellent value for money. Only suggestion would be to add a clothes dryer. Thank you Francesca for helping us with the reservation and taking us to the apartment.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Spacious comfortable apartment - Nice spacious apartment. Good location very central. Close to water bus. Staff was very helpful and provided good local tips. Though on the main street, bedroom was behind so can't hear much noise.
- Thomas (8/5): Decent apartment, Centrally Located! - This was a decent apartment with amenities. Clean, centrally located. The people at reception were quite nice. Please note this is not a hotel, but rather an apartment for rent.
- LINDA (8/5): it was worth it - The location and service were great, the mattress and pillows were very uncomfortable. The room was a little dusty but was well equipped with coffee maker, washing machine & dishwasher, silverware & utensils.
- Jean-Marc (10/5): Perfect place in Cannaregio. - Personnel very helpful, the room is clean, with all that you need for a good stay. Only minor problem, the microwave was dirty and some leftover from the previous guest was not taken care of. When you pay 30 euro for room service you expect more...
- ROGER (8/5): Great stay - Everything was great. The only main issue was the presence of mosquitoes in and around Venice which you really have little control over. All in all nice place.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Great location, friendly staff, and all the amenities you need. Very clean and air conditioned! Nicest place we've stayed at so far on our month long trip. Grazie mille!
- Philip (10/5): Best hotel in our month-long grand tour of Europe! - This was far and away the BEST hotel we stayed in during our month-long grand tour of Europe and the UK. It was more than a hotel. It was an entire flat with not only refrigerator and stove but dish washer, microwave, and washing machine. It offered great views of Venice in a terrific location. Best of all, it had air conditioning. I would book this hotel again in a heartbeat! And a wonderful manager!!!
- Madrid's (10/5): Perfect Location! - This apartment was perfect for our family of five! The boys loved having their own bedroom and bathroom and TV!
The location was on a Main Street yet quiet at night. It was within walking distance to everything! The managers/owners were extremely kind and helpful! Because of flight delays we only got to spend one night and one day in Venice but they helped us to know just where to go to get the most out of our short time. They also recommended a wonderful place to eat out of the tourist area. We were able to eat right beside the canal and the food was delicious. Our family highly recommends staying at Casa delle Ortensie!
- Brenda (8/5): - We loved our stay. Amazingly situated and yet so quiet. You have to be able to climb a few stairs, but I did it:) Lots of places around to buy juice and produce and brioche if you want to do breakfast in the apartment. And the AC was wonderful as it was pretty hot during our stay:) Would stay again. Spartan as far as interior design, but you're not in Venice, Italy, for that!!! Comfortable bed and what you need. Again, if you are there during summer months, the AC is awesome!
- Lorraine (8/5): Nice apartment in good location. - Great location! Short walk to ferry. Do not try to walk from train station, there are no less than 6 bridges in the 20 minutes walk. The apartment building is a walk up and we were on the top floor. We were very grateful that the guys met us at the ferry and helped us with our heavy luggage, all the way to the 3rd floor. The apartment was sparsely furnished but very comfortable. It was true to the photos. The only complaint I have is that there was no way to clean up the floor for the 3 days we were there. I accidentally broke peanut butter in a glass jar and not having a dust pan and brush made the clean up very difficult.
- dawn and Russ (10/5): Super apartment! - Great apartment near supermarkets and easy walking distance to all the major attractions. Lovely greeting and tips given by our host (Francesca) so made the visit fabulous! Thankyou x
- M (10/5): The best stay I've ever had in Venice - This apartment was *PERFECTLY* situated in Cannaregio, at the heart of everything! The kitchen appliances are brand new -- stove top, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine for clothing, microwave, kettle and coffee maker -- and there are plenty of plates, flatware, glasses, etc. The bed is comfy and the linens/blankets provided are perfect. We were only two people, but the apartment could have easily accommodated 3 or maybe even 4! We ended up using the living room with the pull out couch as our "suitcase room" It is perhaps well known that dining in Venice can be tricky -- many places are overpriced and not particularly good because of the high tourist turn over, and special diets can also be hard to navigate, so it was extra nice to be able to cook our own meals. And, with the location being so central, it was quite easy to stop home for a late lunch before going out again. So perfect!
- Gedg (8/5): Pleasantly Suprised - I must admit, that I was very worried after I had booked this apartment. When I clicked on the Google Map link it showed a pleasant quiet canal, but I couldn’t find the building shown on the web site; eventually I discovered that the house was in fact on the busy Strada Nova, which caused me to wonder why there was a deceptive link. In fact, I later learned from the owner that this wasn’t deliberately deceptive but is a fault of Google Maps, which just can’t cope with the curious house numbering system in Venice; however, it would give a better impression if the address could be given on the website – or least the street if not the number. Secondly, the small print (which I didn’t notice when I booked) gives a charge of *€ for cleaning and*€ for arrival out of the permitted arrival time. I think it would give a better image if these extra charges were added to the initial cost. It is bad enough to have to pay the City Tourist Tax on top of the rent. But we have since learned that this was a device of Expedia rather than the owners.
