Despite being in the vicinity of the Cathedral, area around property is undesirable with graffitied buildings and vagrants sleeping rough. We were allocated 4th floor ‘superior’ apartment which involved climbing 4 flights of narrow stairs with motion-sensor lighting which kept going off before we reached the next landing. The floor area of apartment was considerably reduced due to sloping eaves-type ceiling. Apartment itself was dim and dusty, kitchen poorly equipped and towels, although laundered, were stained and of poor quality. I selected this accommodation based on glowing reviews. These reviews absolutely did not reflect our experience.

The unit itself was in need of some TLC - the safe did not work, the toilet was broken with the seat not attached, the shower leaks leaving the bathroom very wet. I would suggest making additional towels available. The unit was small, and likely was a fantastic rental unit a few years ago.

- Audrey (10/5): Great location to explore the city - Room was just what we needed. Windows opened to panoramic view of downtown and had the most beautiful sounds of bell towers and seagulls. Location was central to go explore. Parking is a situation in Porto so we decided to just park right outside and risk it and our car was fine for 2 nights. The cathedral cafe right next door is a must with the nicest owner who loves telling you about his city and sites to see. I also had the best cappuccino here in all the places we went in Portugal!

However, it proved to be safe despite our initial misgivings. Overall, I would recommend it if you subscribe to their motto of authentic living. Porto is amazing and this apartment puts you in the middle of it all.
- Angelika (6/5): - The location is right at the foot of the walking ramp from the cathedral, which was amazing, and also 5 minutes walking from train and metro station - so very convenient. Room was nice and clean. The one disappointment was that I could not get into the room before 3 pm and there seemed to be no willingness to prioritize me - They had asked me before my arrival when I expected to get there, which I interpreted to mean they were planning for my arrival time, but I still could not get in until 3 PM. I came from the West Coast USA, so was completely wiped out, jetlagged. My priorities were to put down roots and go to the bathroom - their priorities were for the room to look perfect before I entered. I would have preferred to get in early, drop my luggage, use bathroom, even if everything was not yet perfect.

Walkable distance to everything Cons: Cleanliness of the room- dusting on the lamps, washroom with mold, kettle has not been cleaned, room condition different from shared picture, AC not available (just fan which is not functioning) therefore room had very seriously mold, muggy smell. Humidifier was too small to work for the size of the room.

- 864grantj (10/5): Good location in Porto - I really liked this apartment, it was in close proximity to the train station and a lot of the attractions were within 20 minutes walk. It was clean, compact, extremely practical and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Not that hard to find. Perfect for a few days stay of exploring.

- Anne (8/5): - It was very convenient to have a whole apartment to myself for an extended stay, especially so close to main attractions and roads to get transportation. Unfortunately, with the street performers, garbage pickup, tourists, etc, it was EXTREMELY loud and i wish i had brought earplugs. There's no lift for luggage and the staircase is really tight, so that was strenuous with my large suitcase going to the 3rd floor. The room is a good size, and the AC works great. They communicate with you very well over whatsapp for everything you need and they offer luggage storage free of charge.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The restaurant is separate - can you say the aparthotel has a restaurant when it is just separate? I can't say the pub down the street is owned by my flat at home? You have to click in to the pictures to understand what you're getting - these are small apartments which the photos don't cover. Also note the no lifts - taxis can't reach it easily so if you have heavy suitcases be careful as you have to go a distance and then carry to whichever floor you end up on - 4 storeys is not easy with a heavy bag.

The room was exactly as it looked in the pictures and the view was impeccable. Lastly, the hosts were extremely responsive and ready to help with anything needed. They offered welcome gift and appetizer in the booking details - but it turned out to be just the espresso machine and two packaged biscuits. I would not consider this a gift or appetizer as most hotels/bookings provide a coffee maker these days.
- Nattalia (6/5): - I would not advise booking this property for a long duration. It’s okay for one night if you’re looking for something affordable. It does not offer four star hotel accommodations. The bathroom has mold, there is no AC and it is quite noisy from guests within the apartment building due to the structure and outside due to the prime location. I went with my family and it was disappointing that there were no refills for soaps and shampoos. Disappointing there were no extra towels or cleaning service during our 2 day stay. If you’re looking for a bit of luxury, this isn’t the place. The location is fabulous and the water pressure in the shower was great.

- Rayna (6/5): - This property is in an unbeatable location, with some of the best views in the city. However, it is becoming rundown and it need of a refresh, and could use more professional management. Some of the broken items in the room included the safe, hairdryer, single mattress (ripped), and dishes (most of them are chipped). The two men who run the place are very pleasant, but not overly helpful. For example, they communicate through the expedia app about check in, so messages are delayed by many hours and you can't check in without the messages - we had to go knocking on the locked door to get access to our room and were lucky we arrived when there happened to be someone at the front desk who let us take a picture of the check in instructions with our phone. Additionally, the room was only made up once during our weeklong stay, and did not include refills on shampoo, toilet paper, etc, all of which we had to request separately as we ran out. A few items could go a long way - such as providing more than 2 coffee capsules and 1 small bottle of water as the promised "welcome basket" for a week long stay. Loved the location, but a refresh and more attention to detail would improve the experience. It is a 2* stay in a 5* location.

The room was very clean and well kept. The surrounding area was awesome and veing close to the Porto Cathedral was a very cool experinece. This stay is a 10 minute walk from so many locations which made our stay in Porto very convenient. Wokkd definitely stay again!
- Julie (8/5): - Super nice front desk staff. The property is very old but made up fairly clean. Location is absolutely perfect! I had three major problems with the property. 1. There is no air conditioning. I would have never booked here had I knew that first. 2. No elevator, I had to drag my luggage to the third floor. 3. The windows were nailed shut, not only it was super hot but there is no way to escape if there is a fire. I asked the front desk to unscrew the window blockage, and I was able to open the window from there. Which is great.

- Edward (10/5): - To be quite honest I was extremely skeptical of the check-in process. Having to rely on mobile phones for updates, getting door codes and so forth. But I was informed this is likely the way of the future and give it a go. I am glad I did! The check-in process was a breeze, the gentleman front desk staff person was incredibly knowledgable and helped us arrange a tour. Rooms were clean. Location was great! We received extremely helpful emails from the property about places to dine, parking options. After all this---if the way Cathedral Design Apartments is the way of the future we are all in store for great things. Well done Cathedral Design Apartments!!!!

- Rebecca (10/5): Great stay. - Great communication from staff, all information sent well in advance, completed a check in form prior to arrival so we could go straight to our room once it was ready without waiting at reception. Room was ready when we got into the city so we could drop our bags off straight away. Apartment clean, great location to visit all the main sites, closeby to the funicular down to the river and takes you right in front of Dom Luis bridge. Staff really helpful and can even arrange airport transfers if needed.

The apartments are nicely designed and ok size wise, but when you say premium bedding and there is a hole in the duvet cover and there is supposed to be a pillow menu but no mention in your room. The picture online also don't show that the bed is one that folds into the wall so it is not possible to have the big comfy couch unless the bed is away. And speaking of the bed it was the hardest bed I have ever slept on, I travel a lot and this was so uncomfortable that we went to a shopping centre and bought a topper to try and get some sleep without waking up sore. Sorry would not stay again.

Midway between the riverside restaurant area and the centre of the old town. Information office next to the cathedral very helpful. A laundry was stated but not actually onsite. We had to use a laundromat. An inside restaurant is actually next door and was noisy every night as it has Fado performances. We were booked 4 nights but given only 2 coffee capsules, 2 dishwasher tabs and 1 hand soap. No tea towel. Bed was extremely hard.

- Desiree (8/5): - The hotel staff was exceptional… They were in quick and close communication with us before I stay and throughout the stay. The apartment/hotel well, within a 10 minute walk to all the popular points of interest and right next-door to a coffee shop that opens around 8 AM with great food and coffee! If you have a car, getting to the hotel is very tricky with very narrow roads, but we got lucky and found a space right by the entrance. That may not be the case for everyone. It is definitely a city for walking versus using a car. The bathroom was very clean, with toiletries, etc. Our only complaint is the bed was a little hard since it was more of a pullout couch style, and there was some mold on the wall by the window. Otherwise, we thought the hotel was exceptional!

- 66barries (6/5): mixed stay - The apartment's location is fantastic, close to the Cathedral and sao bento station. We were able to reach everywhere we wanted by foot. During the day it was lovely having the windows open, listening to the music being played by the Cathedral and the gentle buzz of tourists and the cafe nearby. At night, it was peaceful. The communication with the owners was quite good, we were given codes near arrival time allowing us to enter the apartment easily. The apartment is a little dated and tired. We stayed for 3 nights and each day we'd find more things we didn't like about it. On arrival there were hairs in the shower, one of the window shutters wouldn't open, there was black mould patches on the stone wall near the window, one of the light switches was missing. A lot of this you can overlook as the cost was reasonable, and we came here to explore the city, not stay home. However, at night we found the "bed" (I think it's a sofa bed) to be uncomfortable, very firm, with one very firm pillow each. Oh, and I walked into the corner of the bed with my shin several times in the 3 days as it juts out into the room. The next morning I went to make a coffee and after a few attempts and finding instructions online, it was clear that the coffee machine was actually broken! There was no iron for my crumpled clothes. We had one hiball glass in the cupboard so I had to drink water from a wine glass. There is nowhere in the bathroom to hang any clothes and the toilet roll holder falls off constantly. The safe doesn't work. And the front door slams loudly beneath the room everytime anyone enters or leaves the building. If the owners stayed in the room for a couple of days, I'm sure they would understand what a traveller wants and be able to resolve most of these issues easily enough. When we left we received messages, putting pressure on leaving 5 star reviews as they care so much about clients ect etc which is actually a little insulting! Reviews are based on experiences, spend some more time making a better experience for customers and less time on telling them what you want from them? PROS: *Excellent location *Good communication - easy check in *Lovely vibe in the area and cobbled narrow streets *reasonable cost Cons: *Bed is uncomfortable *Tired and dated *Noisy front door *Poor facilities - no safe, no iron, insufficient glasses, no working coffee machine, blind wasn't working, cheap furnishings, Black mould. Overall this could be a really good place to stay with some small imrpovements - would we return to Porto? definitely! Would we stay here again? No.

There was a dirty soup in the bathroom left in the shower and rubbish bin hasn’t been emptied so we are assuming that the rest of the things in the bathroom and toilet were not cleaned. I would not recommend this apartment for someone who’s visiting Porto.

AC in room was not working either at first. The hallway lights would flicker on and off every night all night long-. The website states a welcome basket and a glass of port wine- we did not receive and once we brought it to the attention of the worker (who btw was hardly ever there) he said he had no idea. We were there for 5 days and no cleaning service. Shower head was broken and by far the WORST shower pressure I’ve ever experienced. Bathroom sink did not drain properly. On the last night I had a massive centipede fall on me while in the bed. We would not stay here again. Website states we should get but we did not: Welcome basket Toaster Daily maid service - I asked the guy and he said it depends on how many days—- LOL we stayed 5 days. Freezer—— it was completely ice and needed to be thawed

The apartment has Everything you need for a short stay or a long stay, even a dishwasher! Water pressure is great, just needed a little better shower head and our stay would have been over the top perfect! Thanks for everything!

It appears that several surfaces are dusty, including the remote control and the heater beneath the TV. I was initially disappointed. My stay lasted four nights. Cleanliness is very important when staying in an accommodation and it was obvious that it was not taken seriously. However, the apartment is in the center of everything, but also very quiet at night. Sao Bento metro, public transportation, and wonderful restaurants are all within walking distance. The staff was friendly and wonderful. My reserved room is really small and perfect for one person. The shower has plenty of hot water and great water pressure.

The building and surrounding property was quiet. The front desk clerk was very helpful in suggesting nearby dining and shopping options. Very close to many historical attractions. Louis 1 bridge is a short 5 walk. Very happy with our stay. I would stay there again!
