We wanted to escape the Texas August Heat and this turned out to be the best 5 days we have ever had. Room/Suite was perfect!! Quarryman Hall suite #247! Breakfast water front at the marina, wonderful staff, great area, lots of nice walking and hiking. Do not miss a dinner at Vinny's in FRIDAY HARBOR! We took Delta to SEA/TAC, Lyft to Kenmore Air at Lake Union, float plane to Roche Harbor and planned a flight from FRIDAY HARBOR to Boeing Field and transfer to SEA/TAC....BUT it rained. Pamela at Roche Harbor drove us to the Ferry, 2 hours to Anacordtes, 2 hours to SEATAC and we are on our way back to DFW!!! If you are looking for quaint, well staffed and water front San Juan Island experience, ROCHE HARBOR is the place!!!!

From the friendly staff at the customer service front desk to the hardworking marina dock hands and dedicated housekeeping team, everyone I’ve encountered has been incredibly professional and goes above and beyond to ensure my satisfaction. I highly recommend them all and would rate them all a perfect 10. My experiences at Roche Harbor Resort have been consistently exceptional, and I eagerly anticipate returning year after year. Ori0nT (4/5): The Worst Resort - It is a pretty little place. Very busy. Very noisy if in Quarryman. Upstairs neighbors sounded like they were re arranging furniture all night. Then in the morning, they got up early to enjoy the sounds of trucks unloading and employees talking on speakerphone in the center with me. After they finished a quick cup of coffee, they must have decided to rearrange the outdoor chairs and table for an hour or so. Sarcasm aside, I can see how some very social people might enjoy this place. I did not. I guess I fell for the "peacful" or "relaxing" bit. Where we were was anything but. As a matter of fact, this was one of the least relaxing places I've ever stayed. Couldn't sleep due to noise. Trucks come right outside around 5 AM and unload. Nothing is included and there's no cooking in the quarryman rooms, so you're buying way overpriced meals (with poor service that forgot my food TWICE). McMillans had excellent food, appropriately priced. There was a wedding one of the evenings, so perhaps that really put a damper on things, but it really was noisy and underwhelming throughout. Just a nice, extraordinarily overpriced, super noisy room right next to vehicles, listening to conversations outside on the street, purchasing crappy food (to be fair, just the café qualifies as crappy, but it's the only breakfast option) as part of a "resort" that's completely open to the public. Wtf makes this a resort?

This would be the best food on the island, but it is way too salty. Order something they can refrain from salting and request a salt shaker if you need it. Best wine list on the island, excellent service, friendly.
j1xxx (10/5): Really Nice - Beautiful waterfront location with everything you need if you arrive by land or sea. We stayed in the lagoon condos which were clen and spacious. Even though it is 9 miles/15 minute drive from the island's main town & ferry dock (Friday Harbor) everything you need is on-sight, including 3 restaurants, grocery store, laundry.
Z2253PMjamesm (6/5): Nice accomodations, nickel and dimed - We stayed in a suite in the Quarryman part of the hotel. Very nice room, comfortable. I'm giving it 3 stars as the hotel engages in the 4 sins of modern "hotelism": 1) Resort fee (5% of total bill, the courts we wanted to play on were closed for repairs); 2) No housekeeping. They told us this upon check-in however, we talked to the housekeeping staff and they made up the room 3 of the 4 nights we were there; 3) 3% service fee in the McMillin's restaurant. Apologies to the hotel if they are not affiliated with this restaurant but I believe they are; 4) Checkout at 11am. It's sad to stay in a hotel in this price range and feel like you're getting nickel and dimed.

Divyanshi (10/5): - We went for our anniversary trip, the property is just perfect for such celebrations. The dining options are hood too, we would definitely visit this place again. We did not know this earlier but everyday there is some music and announcements during sunset, so give your names out and they will announce your names (we could not do so, and we regret that) The massage at afterglow is amazing too. I just felt staff could be nicer, since we had the massage booked at 10, we asked if we can checkout at 11:30 or 12 and we were denied, but there was another white guy who causally asked for checkout at noon and for him they immediately agreed (the room was booked for some other guest for next day even for his room). We really felt that was completely biased behaviour by receptionist.

crocuslover (8/5): Quiet and peaceful sanctuary - We stayed here for three nights in April, our first time here. Beautiful setting and things seem to be in place to prevent any wildness. Curfews for kids, no open alcohol near the boats, etc. The yeeha's would definitely want to skip this place. Decent restaurant onsite. We enjoyed walking over to the restaurant for breakfast and hearing the bells ringing. Very charming. We were in a condo #205 and it had two levels. The bottom bedroom was very cold and the upstairs loft was baking. There needs to be attention given to the distribution of heat! We strolled the sculpture garden, which was a walk in very mushy grass. Not sure if it's always like that... It was about a 20 minute drive to Friday Harbor and we enjoyed going there for some shopping.

Lynn (10/5): - We had a wonderful 2 night stay at Roche Harbor Resort, it was clean, the bed was comfortable and the bathroom space was very large and well appointed. The staff was so kind and helpful in every way and gave great hiking recommendations(thanks Tara!). We ate at McMilllin's on site both nights and the food and service(Leslie) was perfection! We had a perfectly lovely breakfast at the Lime Kiln Cafe where the avocado toast was prepared in the best way possible with a nice over easy local egg on top that may have been the tastiest egg that I have ever eaten. We grabbed a few bottles of wine at the Company Store and felt that the prices were quite fair and the store was very well stocked with almost anything you might want while you are traveling:) Great experience all around!

CWR01 (6/5): Not as nice as I hoped, but not awful. - I was here with my wife to attend a wedding. It is an interesting place with plusses and minuses, especially in the offseason: (1) As a wedding venue it was great. Food was great. Service was stellar. Staff were on their game. The setting was beautiful. (2) The setting is idyllic, wrapping around a harbor with beautiful boats. (3) Some of the units are story book cute. (4) Wifi was good. But we were in one of the "historic" units. Our was a two bedroom, one bath unit with a kitchen and living room in a large grassy area over the harbor. They all look to be the same size, so I assume other units are the same, but I am not sure. While the unit had been reasonably well restored and was very functional, it had a ridiculously soft back-killer bed. We came to call it the "great concavity". (Readers of "Infinite Jest" may get the joke.) There was only 1-2 outlets per room, which meant unplugging lights to plug in a CPAP or a computer. Not OK. The bathroom was cramped. And while they advertised it as "pet friendly", charging $100 to bring a cat strikes me as just a bit excessive. My bad for not asking about that in advance. Finally, off season dining options here are VERY limited. Which is a drag given how isolated the resort is from the rest of Island civilization. Would I stay here again? Sure, but with modest expectations.
W7818PKsp (10/5): Thank You Roche! - We stayed from a Tuesday-Friday as we had our destination wedding on the resort. The location and resort speak for itself. It is stunning. We and our 70 guests could not say enough wonderful things about the experience. We had people fly in from all over the country and most made it a point to let us know that everything was amazing-from the resort food, views, rooms, location and one of- if not the best- weddings they ever attended. The customer service is above and beyond. We cannot express our gratitude enough for the Roche Harbor Weddings and Events team-Ashley, Stina, Cilena, and Laura. These women are amazing and really go above and beyond to make your day (in our case -weekend) an incredible experience. It was the little touches provided that made the greatest impact. The follow up from start to finish and after our wedding was met with urgency and care. The team works with empathy and seem to truly love what they do. A last shoutout to our bartenders-Krissy and Nic. They were the most personable, fun people to have working for our day. They made us and our guests feel at home and we were so grateful for them. Thank you Roche!
David (10/5): - Beautiful resort in a most stunning harbor. Our stay was wonderful from checkin, to our unit, on resort transportation, dining, shopping, and relaxing. We will certainly be back to enjoy the pool and playground and dock fishing with our child!
31shelleyk (6/5): Mediocre hotel - The hotel has very squeaky floorboards covered by old carpet, very steep stairs, and very small rooms. The shared bathroom at the end of the hallway (we did know that ahead of time) is decent. The bed is great and there was a sink in our room. The hotel can charge what it does because its claim to fame is its age and location, but it certainly lacks any other sense of luxury or ambience.

We didn’t use the bed, but while sitting on it the cushions don’t stay in place, making it uncomfortable. Other than that, no complaints. We really appreciated the golf cart service up and down the hill from the house (tip your drivers ;))

Paul (10/5): - A stay at Roche Harbor is a different experience. Early March is considered off season, so we had the place rather to ourselves. Still the terrific breakfast shop was open for business, serving the best donuts on the planet, and the view of the marina fabulous as always.
Rockiroads (10/5): The grounds - WE did not stay at the resort but we walked it Grounds. Beautiful gardens and hedges. Patios to sit on were immaculate. The view from the property to the Marina was amazing. This place was well kept up and historic. Well manicured property.
Imapepper79 (6/5): We had a wonderful time on the island but disappointed in our Bayview suite! - This was our first time back in Roche Harbor after 40 years. We came by sailboat the first time. Exploring the island by car and bike was lots of fun! Beautiful country and wonderful cool summer weather! And very easy and safe for biking. The resort only has 3 options for dining or make your reservations in advance. The chapel chimes and sunset flag ceremony were very nice and fun to watch. Our only disappointment was our Bayview suite in the Quarryman Hall. I guess it's marketing but check out the attached picture. We were right on the main road thru the resort and if you look hard to the left, you can see water and boats. You mostly see the back of the Hotel De Haro! I thought it was pretty over priced for what we got.
patricialA7538JQ (2/5): Lack of attention to customer complaint - For $500 a night I would hope they could bother to make up our room. After complaining to the front desk at 4:00 pm that our room wasn't made up, we left the room for an hour and a half. Came back again to at 5:45 and the room still wasn't made up. The very nice housekeeping person came over to give us towels and apologized that all the housekeeping staff was done for the day. If the front desk person could have been bothered to follow-up at 4:00 pm our issue could have been addressed. Poor follow-through on customer service.
O6753YSpams (10/5): The perfect 10 star marina - I rate this marina two 5s because it is a classy 10 star marina. From the time we arrived the staff were helpful and friendly (they seem to enjoy their jobs, the docks are I excellent condition, a quaint chapel chimes music at noon and 6pm, there is a well stocked store, a coffee bar also sells ice cream, craft shops in tents, kayaking, crabbing & fishing, you can catch a ding-ding trolley to tour the island, visit the historical Salt kiln, there are several excellent restaurants at the marina, and at sunset an exciting surprise! We are on a dock with our 30 foot Cornish Pilot sailboat dwarfed by the multi-million dollar mega yachts towering over us. The perfect place in the San Juan islands.
peteyrng (10/5): Magical place - Here for a wedding. Staff did an amazing job - food and service was excellent. I stayed in Quarryman Hall. Room was lovely - bed was soft and extremely comfortable. Sheets and towels were super soft and cozy. Room was beautiful. No screens on the windows to protect the view (yay) but some flies got in - doesn't bother me but might bother others. Grounds are lovely and staff was very welcoming and helpful. Do wish that the gift shop and boutique (Dominique's) on site focused more on locally made products - or at least highlighted a display of items that are locally made. Pool was fabulous. Still early in the season, so mostly empty but it was lovely to swim by the marina with the beautiful view.
XR73B (8/5): We loved our townhouse - There are a variety of room options, and we stayed in one of the larger townhomes, which was lovely. It was bright, spacious, with a relatively high-end kitchen. Re the townhouse, which could depend on which you're assigned: Super clean on arrival. Comfortable beds. Quiet. Nicely decorated. Well-equipped kitchen. Laundry with detergent. (But the dryer ate one of my items.) No full length mirror or makeup mirror. Given that there are lots of weddings at the resort, this is a major oversight. No instructions on how to use the radiant heating. It worked once, and then I must have adjusted the settings and we couldn't get it to work again. Really frustrating. The outside furniture was terribly uncomfortable. As in really couldn't sit on the chairs or use the deck as a result. Re the resot: Really pretty. Well maintined. No housekeeping, which was fine, but the hotel supplies in the townhouse were limited. As in I had to ask for extra coffee (they intially supplied enough for one pot per day) and soap, and they had only the exact number of towels needed. I get that they don't want people to be wasetful, but the forced frugality was annoying and felt out of synch with the level of the resort. The lime kiln restaurant was not great. We ordered breakfast and lunch, takeaway, and were disappointed in the quality. Suggestion. If you care about your room, call ahead to get their recommendation. I did that, was very specific about what I was looking for, and was really pleased with our townhouse. I saw another one that my friend was in, farther down the hill and closer to the main area, and it was kind of dark and nothing like ours. I also saw one near ours that had great looking outside furniture and that was much more inviting than ours. The townhomes/condos appear to be individually owned and sort of property managed by the hotel, so I'm guessing that there's a lot of variety. Overall, if I were coming to the area again, I would be happy to stay here.
566ClaireM (10/5): Beat My Expectations! - I didn't book my stay, as it was a part of a package deal with local touring business. However, I must say my stay exceeded all my expectations. I traveled solo, and was given a 1 bedroom, 2 bathroom room, in the Pearl Condo on the hill. I'd originally been worried about dragging my own luggage from the boat docks to the Condo 'up the hill' but nope, I was able to walk, and/or call for ride via golf cart vehicle, as I desired, so no worries! The room I got was sooo pretty, had fantastic scenery and contained a fully functional kitchen with all the expected gadgetry from microwave, fridge, and K-cup coffee maker to pots, pans and the like (as if I cook while vacationing, lol!). I wanted to take that comfy couch home with me, as I recouped in front the TV after a long day. There were not one, but 2 patios, one with a nice table & chairs, overlooking the harbor.
Happiness293738 (10/5): Great weekend getaway. - Great beds, fabulous location, wonderful service. Easy access to the marina. Lovely gardens even in early spring. Took a long walk to the local distillery--an added treat. Always enjoy each and every visit.
crekelite (10/5): Lovely beyond my expectation. - I love very old lodgings. My experience here was so much more than I expected. The room was immaculate. The pillows were wonderful and it was so quiet. Although the 2 bathrooms on floor 2 were shared, they were spotless. The shower took awhile to warm, which is typical of the older hotels. Our room had it's own sink, lovely towels, even a makeup remover face cloth. Lovely bathrobes. Well equipped with ironing board, iron, hairdyer. Window faced the harbor and a narrow deck with chairs was available outside our room. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had dinner in a historic dining room accross walkway. Wonderful food, excellent service, a little spendy.
49saskiar (10/5): Amazing place - Perfect stay for 2 nights in de old Hotel d’Haro. We loved the old atmosphere en de colors ceremony. Nothing has changed the last 35 years when I first came there and started to work in the restaurant as a busgirl. The restaurant is still very good witch great food and you gave the cafe at the dock for a perfect American breakfast.
michaelcN7940UY (4/5): Full of Pretentious - This place is in a great picturesque location very pretty and scenic But that is it Checked in today, only one person on the desk and there was quite a line The female checking us in could care less about the customer A wet fish would give a bad name to fish She was as welcoming and helpful as a screen door on a submarine I would fire her now The unit we got was old , worn, smelt like dogs and was in ill repair There is no AC and they told us to just open the sliding glass doors but the screens were broken and bugs got in There was no ice, the Wi fi was molasses and no De caf coffee All for 370 bucks a night WHAT A DEAL Later went to the ONLY bar for a drink and because we were there at 8 30, we were treated like dirt, put in the corner of the restaurant bar reserved for dogs This whole ordeal was a total waste of money This is someone old condo that should be totally redone DO not waste your money here stay somewhere else

The reception staff were extremely friendly, fast and helpful. We had a fabulous dinner at McMillan’s, both food and ambience - and the best donuts ever at the cafe the next morning. Roche Harbor is quiet in March, but a peaceful getaway from Seattle; highly recommend!
Rudolph (8/5): Hotel De Haro - View is great! very comfortable... I got one of the rooms that had its own bathroom. Yea! The great part is it has the charm of a old hotel... but the comfort and amenities of a modern hotel.

Also the water front was really nice to view from our hotel and the docks were fun to walk on observing all the different boats. If I had to change one thing about my stay it would be that in between day one and day two of our stay, our room was not cleaned. But other than that it was a great place to stay.
Verified traveler (10/5): - We booked a cottage for our stay. When we checked in, we were told they upgraded us and moved us to a condo. We couldn't have been more satisfied with the place. Clean, extra linings. We reported the heater was not working in the living room. The maintenance staff came out and repaired it promptly. They keep the walkways and stairs clear of snow! The restaurant and general store staff were amazing and very helpful. Overall, a fabulous stay. we are already planning another trip in the summer.

Julia (10/5): Charming Hotel and Resort - We had a lovely stay at the Roche Harbor Resort! We stayed in the sunset suite at the Hotel de Haro that had a view of the entire harbor and a door to the deck outside. The bed was comfortable and the room and bathroom were very spacious. Both mornings during our stay we got breakfast wraps and coffee from the Lime Kiln Cafe and enjoyed them on the balcony outside our room. The staff were friendly and accommodating and there is so much to see in and around the resort, including the mausoleum and sculpture garden. The hotel and surrounding area have an interesting history and most attractions are just a short run, bike ride, or drive away. We would love to stay here again!

Half the appeal of staying here is knowing that you have everything you need onsite. This was not communicated to us ahead of time or at time of booking, and frankly not reflected in any discounted prices for accommodations. Additionally, this place doesn't appear to recycle anything, which really bothered me for a place in Washington.

I would definitely stay there again. The sheets on the bed are so soft too!! The room was clean and they had turned on a light for us too!

The two shared bathrooms were clean and not at all a problem to share- never had to wait. Would highly recommend.
