Guest Reviews
- Julie (8/5): - Very clean The restaurant is closed indefinitely. Needed to know that in advance as v hard to find food on a Monday night.
Breakfast not served until 8
- John (8/5): -
- Anthony (8/5): -
- Aminah (5/5): -
- James (7/5): -
- Pam (8/5): Comfortable room friendly staff - Good sized room in a location that suited. Breakfast cooked to order and friendly staff Plumbing was a bit intrusive but as it is an aged property I don’t think that can be improved much
- Jon (7/5): -
- Kathryn (10/5): Lovely stay - Lovely room and cute little town near Forrest of Dean and Puzzlewood! The cooked breakfast was a lovely perk too!
- carl (8/5): - Plenty there all in a circle if u don't want to walk far
- Karolina (8/5): -
- Mark (7/5): - The public square immediately adjacent to the Angel Hotel was extremely noisy in the early hours of both mornings of my stay. I was kept awake frompeople shouting until after 2am. As result I was very tired during my stay due to poor sleep.
Also, the room does not have thick / black-out curtains and so the strong street lights nearby didn't help with sleep either.
Overall a good hotel, but its location - or the room I stayed in at least - was very poor. I would not recommend it if needing a good night's undisturbed sleep!
- Johanna Mae De Guzman (6/5): Great staff! - Staff were friendly and enjoyed the full English breakfast! The area we had our breakfast was nice with interesting decor! Bed was comfortable and the location was great for numerous Wye Valley trails! Room needs some maintenance. Balcony doors couldn’t lock properly, visible stain on carpet and chair, and peeling paint. Rooms got a bit too hot despite the fan.
- Christine (8/5): - Quiet comfortable room. Good value for money. Freshly cooked breakfast. The carpet edges could have been cleaner but it was an old building.
- Russel (1/5): Don't bother, find a chain hotel that has consistent quality - The staff in the morning were helpful with breakfast request. This is NOT, and SHOULD not be called a family friendly Hotel. Although we were told they shut at 10.30, loud music and drunk patrons, shouting profanities carried on until at least 1.30am. Then this carried on directly beneath our room, with one person vomiting into the street. Confirmed when having to avoid said vomit as we left the property.
The children room with two single beds was stifling hot despite the fan on and window open.....
The bathroom was a disgrace, broken lock, broken toilet flushing mechanism, broken shower control, flooring that was coming up and a shower tray that didn't drain.....
Would request a refund if I thought it possible
- Mick (7/5): A comfortable stay, and the location is convenient for the Forest of Dean - Nice friendly atmosphere in the bar, helpful staff and a fabulous breakfast. Easy to get the temperature right in the room. Comfortable bed. No car parking on site. No evening meals available during our stay (Monday and Tuesday night) but there is a really good takeaway across the square called Coleford Charcoal.
- clare (6/5): -
- Lynsey (6/5): -
- Gunn (10/5): The Angel - Staff were friendly, room was available early, clean and comfortable. Nothing.
- Nicole (10/5): Great for families - Great sized family room. Great breakfast. Cooked to perfection. Friendly and helpful staff. Great for my young family. Nothing
- Timothy (10/5): -
- Carol (10/5): A great weekend there. We will come back - The room. The atmosphere. Friendly staff. Good value
- Heather (3/5): Bad value for money. - I found the staff very friendly and helpful. The area of the hotel is really nice and central to Coleford. Nice view from the room. Has gluten free breakfast option. We had booked and paid for a deluxe double room and got put in the standard room. The bath and sink had lots of hairs in them. Pillows very flat. We had breakfast and it was like everything was cooked in oil and overdone, for example the eggs were crunchy but wet with oil!
- Geraint (8/5): Good place to stay with children in the family room. - Good location, recently decorated room. Nothing
- obriest (9/5): - Great staff excellent location lovely four-poster bed . Nothing
- Bernard (6/5): - Location and friendly Under the bed was filthy toilet seat was the same
- julie (7/5): Good value - Manager/chef/foh man one man show Bathroom bin wasn’t emptied so was the bathroom cleaned between guests?
- Lomas (10/5): Great comfortable value stay in Coleford - Stayed with two young kids to visit Puzzlewood and Perrygrove. Managed to bag an excellent room rate including breakfast. Room was bigger than expected, warm and comfortable. Showerhead unit was great but no big deal. Tele was a decent size for the room, really comfortable beds and pillows, everything was clean and the kids loved it - they thought we were well posh for the day.
Wifi didn't work in the room ĺdespite there being a repeater next to the door in the hallway) but not worth a points deduction considering how good everything else was (again for the price).
Staff were great, breakfast was exactly as expected and the kids ate everything.
Parked for free in nearby streets.
Would definitely stay here again. Wifi didn't work (I didnt enquire as to why), and shower wasn't the best
- Reginald (8/5): - Other than could have been a bit cleaner cleaner the room was as expected
- Patrick (5/5): Angel Hotel - The hotel situation for the town and Forest of Dean great. The room options mentioned bath or shower but no rooms with baths were available.
WiFi was very poor, watching TV on Netflix in the evening and Wi Fi was unavailable after 20 minutes for the rest of the evening.
Breakfast was below a normal standard.
- Kenny's Hair (10/5): - The haunted aspect
- Peter (8/5): Comfortable, meeting my expectations (note I have stayed here before), location suitable for me. - The room was very comfortable. Please note that I have stayed here before and knew what to expect; by coincidence I was in the same room as previously. Nothing comes to mind to recommend.
- Anthony (6/5): -
- Anne (7/5): Lovely staff, good location, just found the room stuffy - Breakfast was excellent and freshly cooked Unable to open the window and not able to adjust the heating
- Gideon (8/5): - Good value for money, friendly staff in Central location. Showers could be a bit better, but not a deal breaker
- Tom (3/5): Couldn’t sleep in a hotel. Totally useless. Couldn’t pay me to stay there again - Nice staff The tapas bar next door turns into a night club until 2am. Impossible to sleep with all the music and the people shouting out the front. I asked to move rooms but was told we couldn’t. Totally ruining the hotel stay. Needed a clean too. Very grubby. The previous guests sock was also left in the room. Cigarette ends on the balcony of a no smoking room. Awful place. A partial refund for being mis sold would be nice!
- Margherita (5/5): -
- Phillip (10/5): Excellent breakfast comfortable accommodation and helpful friendly staff - Conveniently located for my needs clean and comfortable very friendly staff Location and comfort
- Stephanie (1/5): Absolutely shocking - Nothing We was left standing at the bar for ages while the staff just looked on. Then finally got let in. The male staff member was very rude to my partner. We then went to our room to the floor being very uneven. Got into the room in the bathroom there was a half empty shower gel open on the bath and then a half empty one on the side of the sink. The bed was so uncomfortable. The room was very dated and run down. The bed was on a slant. There was no heating it was freezing cold. There was a small oil heater but didn't warm the room up. Tried to take a shower and there was no hot water. Tried several times through the evening but no hot water. Had a small amount in thw morning but it was luke warm. There was bulb in one of the light. There was clear signs to say no smoking or vaping in the pub or property but even a worker was sitting at the bar vaping with another customer. I found this hugely disrespectful as myself and my partner are highly asthmatic and couldn't be in the pub area. No staff to be found to even talk to about any of these issues but then of how rude the first member of staff was it was worrying how rude he would be. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from the male member of staff.
- Peter (7/5): -
- Lorna (9/5): Très bon séjour. - Le petit déjeuner est copieux et savoureux, typiquement british. Bon séjour.
- Janet (8/5): -
- Tony (7/5): Very good value for money. - Breakfast was good and freshly cooked, our evening meal was also very enjoyable. Honestly there was nothing we could complain about.
- Tracy (7/5): Good for a short visit, great breakfast. - The hotel was located in the town, part of the local pub. It was a traditional local, friendly staff. Bar area had pool table, juke box and plenty of seating. The room was nice enough. Food was excellent, we had the full English breakfast which is highly recommended. There is no parking, but there is a free car park around the corner so not really an issue. Some parts of the room could do with an upgrade, toilet seat was old and yellow. Don't think the kettle has ever been cleaned. The bath/shower is on a slightly raised platform, so may benefit from a grab rail as it's a bit of a drop getting out. Due to age of property it has secondary glazing, but one of the panels was missing which meant it was extremely noisy. The room was above the entrance to the pub, and it also had a bus stop directly outside. We had a very rude awakening just after midnight with a number of people outside, shouting, singing and being loud for quite some time before a bus came along.
- Steer (4/5): not what we expected - bedroom was okay no restaurant monday or tuesday not stated on website kitchen fan was left on all night so we were kept awake most of the night. very poor switch the noisy fan off
- sarah (10/5): -
- Stephanie (10/5): - Fantastic hotel. Felt like I was home the second I walked in. The staff was warm and friendly, the chef was kind and attentive, and everything exceeded our expectations. Everything was great.
- Rose (4/5): First time there - Food was great, room was lovely, pleasent staff on duty on arrival, nice atmosphere Abrupt morning staff, not very accommodating, not very nice attitude, and not courteous towards us, terrible atmosphere
- janette (3/5): Unfortunate - The staff and location Run down all the furniture is very badly worn and in places very dirty.
- Les (10/5): - Stayed many times lovely place N/A
- Judith (6/5): -
- Geoff (10/5): The staff were very friendly and helpful we liked the comfortable bedroom and breakfast was lovely. - The location and the bedroom was lovely and comfortable Nothing
- Helen (8/5): - Breakfast was good, location was excellent for our needs. Happy with everything.
- David (9/5): - Nice vibes Nothing
- Scott (10/5): - Hotels staff very friendly and welcoming, nic3 cl3an spacious rooms, the price for a night plus breakfast is well worth it and the breakfast was amazing. Will definitely recommend to others and will be booking again in the near future There was nothing i didn't like.
- Deborah (10/5): -
- Oli (9/5): -
- Lynn (3/5): - breakfast was great could not fault that, room was good size but quite run down, bad smell of damp, floors all uneven ( we know its an old building but that needs looking in to ) shower run from the tapes no pressure. secondary glassing missing street noise load as the bus terminal was right out side the hotel, only a problem for front occupants.
- Paul (7/5): Good location, friendly staff good value - Friendly and helpful staff the hotel was what was expected good value and central to the forest of dean Bed a little creaky bathroom hairdryer didn’t work the hotel is a little tiered.
Had the sirloin steak asked for it rare and got medium we did get two drinks to compensate
- Linda (10/5): - The Breakfast was superb. Room was a good size. The bed was comfortable. I didn't like the noise outside the Angel going on till 2.30am Other than that it was a lovely place to stay.
- Barry (9/5): Great stay would stay here again. - The breakfast provided was excellent. This was a booking made on the day and they were very accommodating. The room had a double and two singles ( family room). The room was very clean and welcoming. There was tea and coffee in the room. Nothing to dislike
- Sharon (7/5): Nice town and very conveniently placed to access everything. - The breakfast was very nice. Was disappointed with not having a meal in the evening, despite booking a table. Was told whilst having a drink in the bar just before our booked time, that the chef wasn’t coming in, we would have to find alternative dining in the town.
- Stephen (9/5): Perfect for a short break in the Forest of Dean - Ideal location for exploring the Forest of Dean. Clean and comfortable room, Breakfast was excellent. Staff were welcoming.
We have stayed here a number of times and the hotel is good value for money. An excellent Tapas restaurant next door is a bonus. The hotel is opposite the market place. It was a little noisy at closing time on Friday night, but nothing serious.
- Peter (7/5): Basic, but all that was needed for a simple bed for the night -
- Stephen (8/5): Ideal location for Forest of Dean. Comfortable room and excellent hot breakfast. - Superb breakfast. Room was clean and comfortable. Location was ideal for Forest of Dean. Old fashioned iron bed frame with cast legs that stuck out far enough to catch your shins. Bathroom smelt of cigarette smoke.
- Graham (10/5): -
- Dominic (7/5): -
- Amanda (9/5): Great position for where I needed to be, friendly staff and very clean - Love that it’s so old and listed My sash window was stuck open so a little chilly
- Simon (7/5): -
- D (10/5): - Have stayed at the Angel before. Excellent hotel, friendly staff and comfy rooms. Nothing
- Sharon (7/5): -
- I (1/5): Faulty Towers rather than Fawlty Towers - nothing funny about the stay - quite stressfull. - Room staff were helpful. We actually had to stay from 4th to 8th Dec as moving house: Car parking - 10 minutes walk away, in rain, in public car park - car broken into overnight. Accommodation - beds only had thin duvets [mid winter!] had to use extra bath towels as no blankets available. Hotel security suspect as room key also fitted the reception door & Hotel main door - 2 x we returned to our room to find it unlocked; Hotel open to non residents for breakfast and front door & reception door both open at same time for staff convenience - Manager defensive & in denial ["doors always kept shut!"], and arrogant when questioned about this - told us to leave if we didn't like it,,, Hotel not catering for evening meals, and missed 1 breakfast as had ordered takeaway sandwiches the night before for 8.30 on 5th Dec as had an early appointment - sandwiches not prepared and Manager told us to sit and wait in restaurant but we had no time.
- I (1/5): Faulty Towers - not funny, - See full review for final stay 7th/8th Dec.
- Nichola (9/5): Great value and very comfortable - Very comfortable four poster bed. We had the family room which is actually 2 separate bedrooms and a shared bathroom which was perfect for us. Good breakfast. Helpful staff. Great value. A little dated but would definitely recommend and stay again.
- Megan (8/5): - The location of the hotel is great, the room was comfortable and the staff were very friendly, the room was clean with good WiFi.
The breakfast was also lovely Nothing
- Geoff (8/5): Good central location - nice staff - Great location to be close to a New Year’s Eve party. Lovely staff. Had four poster bedroom - very comfy hotel is a bit tired in places - staff very helpful. No car parking on site - but no issues as free parking a few minutes walk away.
- Matthew (7/5): Would stay again - Locality to the town square He night club next door to the property
- Carl (9/5): - Central to where I had to be Not them BUT the pub down road had LOUD music to 2.30 am you could hear word to word there are houses so don’t know how they can break the rules they need to be stopped. But not the fault of this hotel
- Debby (7/5): Satisfied with room and service - All staff very pleasant Nothing
- Charlotte (5/5): Fine for a night but wouldn’t stay again - Good location in the centre of town. Comfortable bed and nice size room. It wasn’t very clean, the room was very dusty and the tea tray clearly hadn’t been cleaned. We found stains on the pillows and towels, and when we went up to our room there were towels thrown on the floor outside. The shower immediately filled up with water as the drain was clogged. The room was very dated and creaky.
- Bonita (7/5): Had a lovely stay, great location and breakfast 10/10 😋 - The breakfast was cooked and presented lovely and the lovely lady cooking it and serving it up was very friendly and professional.
- Jennifer (7/5): -
- Martin (10/5): Fantastic stay and will be staying there again - Central and clean
- Jeffrey (9/5): -
- Brennan (9/5): - Staff very friendly and helpful, room clean and tidy Bed was a bit too soft
- Emma (8/5): comfortable, friendly, breakfast service could do with more focus - On arrival I was kindly upgraded to a double room, which was lovely. The room was comfortable and overall the staff were friendly and welcoming.
Breakfast was good in principle, but a little forgetful. A few items I ordered didn’t arrive — my decaf coffee never came, the gluten-free hash browns were missing, and although I asked for a scrambled or well-done egg, was told, yes can do scrambled, I received a not so well done fried egg. There was no one around afterward to follow up with, so I didn’t raise it and just left it.
It’s worth noting that the breakfast room was very quiet, with only myself and one other table, so it wasn’t a busy service. Despite this, I was still happy overall and enjoyed my stay — the comfort of the room and the friendliness of the staff made up for it. Just a bit of forgetfulness at breakfast. as above
- Ash (7/5): - Location and cleanliness of the room and friedly staff Price a little high and breakfast was good quality but small
- Paul (8/5): -
- Jonathan (7/5): - It's a quiet hotel, and was perfect as it was a 15 minute drive from the wedding venue my friends were getting married at.
Bed was incredibly comfortable.
They allow you to buy drinks in the pub below and take them to your room for privacy.
Despite it being mid winter the room was the perfect temperature, and I'm a bit of a chiller. Didn't like the fact that I was told on the app that a deluxe room had a balcony, and was extra for that facility, and then arriving and not having access, floors were rather creaky, and the cosmetics of the room could use a little work (E.G. wallpaper and parts of the plaster had been exposed due to previous careless guests, floor of bathroom, peeling away from the wall where it attaches, cracked mirrors, etc).
- kevin (9/5): - All good breakfast really good Nothing
- VIPULA (6/5): -
- Andrew (9/5): -
- Sean (10/5): Comfy bed, good breakfast and pukka staff - Nice place and close to where I was working. Booking.com accidentally charged me twice for the room and the staff took care of it. Will definitely book here next time I am working in the area. Nothing at all.
- Gary (8/5): -
- Feist (10/5): Relaxed and friendly and a great place to lay your head for a couple of - The landlord/proprietor was so very welcoming and friendly and even though our arrival was late due to traffic delays, nothing was too much trouble. There is a friendly and easy going vibe and it is obvious that customer satisfaction is his aim. That was achieved! Clean crisp linen and towels, clean bathroom and suitcases carried to the room for us on arrival. The shower head wasn’t great so could do with a new one. The water was hot and the shower room was very clean but you had to dance around a bit to get wet 😂
- Mick (9/5): -
- Hanson (4/5): - Convenient for where we wanted to visit
Breakfast good Towels in the room felt damp when we wrnt to use them
Not being able to open a window
- Claire (8/5): Really lovely stay seeing family in Coleford.we will be back! - The breakfast was lovely. Beautiful room. Parking was a short walk away.
- Faye (8/5): Lovely stay however noisy on a Saturday night - Very clean and comfortable, great shower, breakfast was delicious. Very noisy, we stayed on a Saturday night and the bar downstairs had a disco on so we were kept up by music and very loud voices out on the street til early hours of the morning.
- Gemma (7/5): Fine for a night - Beds were comfy. Staff were friendly and helpful. Room looking onto the street was noisy. Breakfast selection sheet was not well explained/designed.
