Guest Reviews
- Sandrine (9/5): Bel hôtel traditionnel, lit futon, onsen très agréable. Bon repas traditionnel. Situé à côté de Ainokura. Bel environnem -

- Alain (9/5): Great location for a very interesting countryside, lovely Onsen. - Great onsen and included meals. We even had a nice show organized by the hotel staff.
Great location if you want visit Gassho-Zukuri houses around. The room had many bugs around the windows. This seemed to be a seasonal issue and the hotel was aware of this and had left instructions.
- Peter (8/5): - The onsen is very nice, as is the nature around the location, tasty Japanese food Very early breakfast - last sitting at 7:45
- Minkyun (10/5): -
- Hung chun (10/5):
- Jyunko Fujimoto (10/5): -
- luiggi (7/5): -
- Dan Yan (10/5): Worth to stay one or two nights! - Staff all have been excellent, I stayed 2 nights, when I was leaving the weather warmed up and roads became slippery, staff offered free car driving me to the bus stop, ver sweet! The price is very good, foods are well presented and very good in cold weather, enjoyed so much, I am staying in shirakawago tonight, price is very high! Suggest anyone heading this way to stay at kaminashi, even transport is not great but if you plan well you will enjoy. You can take bus from takayama to shirakawago and visit for lesser than 2 hours, get on heritage bus ( prepare some cash, even they said you can use credit card, but I took five times , 3 you can, other 2 cash only!) stop to visit suganuma ( there are lockers at bus stop only 100en), get on heritage bus again and stop at kaminashi to get to this hotel; next day get heritage bus to visit ainokura ( coin lockers at bus stop too), then get on heritage bus and head to takaoka or shin takaoka! Best trip! None! I am planning to come back again!

- Chia Lien (9/5):
- CHIBA (4/5): -
- wenting (9/5): - Beautiful outdoor hot spring, great dinner Some bugs inside the room
- Meng Hwa (8/5): Acceptable - great location elevator located extreme side of the building.
- Christopher (8/5): A historical and traditional stay with a lovely Onsen. - Ideally situated a good distance from Shirakawa Go. Traditional meals and service were exceptional No showers in bathroom. A problem for someone with tattoos who couldn’t use the lovely Onsen.
- Ying Ying (10/5): -
- Peter (9/5): Nice stay - The staff were nice and very pleasant. The onsen was great, outdoor one especially. The provided meals were really good and so interesting(so many small bits and served in dainty containers/receptacles - very cute). I liked the fact guests are given a Yukata to wear, really felt authentic. Nobody responded to my messages (sent when waiting for a bus at Gokayama bus stop in the pouring rain for close to 2 hours) about the shuttle bus service supposedly on offer.
- Hong (4/5): Regret to stay ! - The breakfast and dinner was good. The service is not good. When I make reservation I saw the hotel has transfer service that from "world heritage bus stop to hotel". I sent three or four emails to confirm, NO CLEAR RESPONSE. I asked people to call then response is "has bus to hotel ", BULLSHIT! When I arrived, I went to tourist information office, a kindly woman helt me calling hotel to pick me up(drive car only two mins), they said NO! OMG, impossiblely walk along the mountain path with my luggages. Finally the kindly woman drived me to the hotel......and my room just face to a building which has super noisy machine. Look picture. A BAD EXPERIENCE!

- David (6/5): - Location is good for the historic gasso villages . Nice position in valley .
Evening meal was nice …. Kaiseki style . Tired hotel but nice views .
Be aware not all rooms have a shower .
Onsen great .
Breakfast is only a Japanese option . Adequate but little variety .

- Vincent Teo (9/5): - Clean and Spacious room. Comfortable bed. Nice onsen with indoor and outdoor pool. Dinner was delicious. Free coffee from the machine till 10am. All guests need to leave their outdoor footwear at the main entrance. 1. It will be great to have complimentary blended coffee after dinner from the coffee machine.
2. Breakfast could be better. Cooked Salmon was no longer warm.
- Victor Manuel (10/5): Japon lejano y natural - Onsen natural muy bueno. Interior y exterior.
- YUWEN (7/5): -
- Katie (10/5): Wonderful retreat - The onsen is situated in a beautiful valley, perched on a hillside just above the town of Kaminashi. Huge, lush mountains surround you, and there’s a large river running down the valley below. The staff was very welcoming and let us leave our bags in the lobby before our check in time. The onsen facilities were great. The women’s outdoor pool had incredible views of the mountains, and it was beautifully designed. The room had fantastic views of the mountains and was very comfortable. We had such a peaceful retreat here for one night. The town of Kaminashi was also nice to explore. We enjoyed the café, 作助, as well as the tofu store, 喜平商店. This was one of our favorite stays in our trip to Japan, and we hope to return in the future!
- Kumaraswamy (10/5): Amazing relaxed and rejunvating experience with traditional jappnesh food and quite alps surroundings. - The stay was relaxed and rejuvenate, ideal location for those looking forward to relax and enjoy hot spring with traditional Japanese food. Hot spring experience is amazing. Its not well connected by public transport self drive is advisable

- Damien (1/5): Bad -
- Laia (8/5): Very good - Beautiful location, good onsen, good food Insects in the rooms
- Hai (9/5): Superb -
- Palm (9/5): Superb -
- Maxima (8/5): Very good - we love the cleanliness and food. I don't like that it has no private bathroom
- Kendra (10/5): Excellent food, service - The staff, food and onsen were all incredible.
- Tuyet (10/5): Exceptional - Nice service, and they have hot spring also. If you stay in gokayama, I recommend you should have dinner in booked hotel, becuz there is no restaurant open until 3pm...
- Mei (9/5): Superb -
- Nicholas (9/5): Gokanso - The outdoor onsen was especially beautiful. The staff were kind and courteous and the food excellent. Nothing to not like.
- Mika (10/5): Beautiful hidden gem for an authentic experience. - The room had incredible views of the snowy mountains, the meals had a lot of fresh, local, and seasonal food, the hot spring was great, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
- Cindy (9/5): Superb - Wonderful staff and excellent service. Breakfast and dinner were delicious. The traditional welcome performance (available on certain days) was excellent and educational, although seems to be only available in Japanese. Room was very spacious and comfortable and overall great value. This is a great place to stay to explore the Gassho villages of Gokayama, Ainokura and Suganuma (we took the bus) and we much preferred these quieter authentic towns to Shirakawago which was packed with tourists. We stayed in late December and it started to snow on our first day which was magical, however, the corridors and bathroom can get a cold so plan ahead. The hotel is on a steep hill, so we recommend driving if you have lots of luggage, but we managed to hike up with our backpacks. The hotel does have a shuttle service to assist.
- Yih (8/5): Relaxing getaway - Meals were excellent! View from our room was beautiful especially when snowing. Nil
- R (9/5): Superb - Clean and neat room. Good dinner and breakfast. Onsen is comfortable. Should be aware of local bus schedule to avoid hustle.
- Sally (9/5): Traditional Hot Spring Hotel providing Kaiseki Ryori - It's quite remote so it's quiet at night for me to have a good sleep. The room is huge and comfortable. The hot spring was good. The kaiseki ryori was both pretty and tasty. I also enjoy the free coffee in the morning. If it would stop raining ...
- Rui (8/5): Very good -
- Arunrat (7/5): Good -
- Gina (6/5): No private bathroom and not 25m2. But good food and good location - The food and location where very good We booked a room with private bathroom, but the room had no bathroom, just a restroom. We had to use the public Onsen which was not the plan because I have a tattoo. Very uncomfortable. And the room is nit as big as advertised. It’s more like 18m2 then 25 m2.
- Sirirat (9/5): Very nice accommodation. Good Onsen. Friendly staff. -
- Nick (8/5): Very good - In-house consent, full board food quality. Spacious rooms. No in room shower (but the onsen makes up for it!)
- Chiu (9/5): Superb - Clean, spacious
- David (7/5): Good - A very basic ryokan that is a good solution for those visiting the gasso villages and who want to stay overnight in the area. Onsen was nice. Meals were not what we had grown accustomed to at ryokans.
- Pamela (7/5): Old style mountain resort with nice privacy, accessible by driving. - Nice place to see both the Gassho villages and drive to Kanazawa for a day trip. Big outdoor bath. Food is average.
- Jorunn (9/5): Genuine ryokan experience close to World Heritage sites - Nice traditional ryokan in a beautiful village in the mountains, close to World Heritage Villages Ainokura, Suganuma and Shirakawago. The staff were very kind and helpful, and agreed to change our meals when we contacted them and told them we are vegetarians. We stayed in a clean, traditional Japanese style room with a mountain view and had full access to the ryokan's onsen bath (with a warm and cold bath as well as sauna inside, and a warm bath outside). Everything was great! Some parts of the ryokan looked a little old, but that's part of the charm.
- Francesca (8/5): Very good -
- Eng (9/5): Superb -
- Chiun (10/5): Excellent stay if want to visit Shirakawago and nearby villages - Very nice traditional Japanese style hotel with excellent traditional breakfast and dinner! The outdoor onsen is also very nice and a great experience! Nil
- Winnie (9/5): a quiet, comfortable stay. - the first night dinner was very good. the place was cery clean, well managed and spacious. it wasn’t crowded when we were there so it was quiet and peaceful. the water in the onsen had a bit of chlorine smell.
- Sin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Suchaya (8/5): Very good - I love this secluded hotel in the mountains! The hotel has a retro style but is very clean. The meals are included and are excellent. During my stay, I had the onsen practically all to myself and I enjoy the outdoor onsen looking out into the forest the most!
- Cindy (10/5): Family vacation - Our 2nd time in this ryokan! Love the outdoor onsen! 30 mins drive to shirakagawo! There is also 2 unesco heritage near here which is less popular than shirakagawo. Beautiful view from our room! I find it more convenient to stay here if u r driving!
- Cassandra (7/5): Good - Nice and quiet
- Sook (9/5): Superb - Staff at reception was very friendly and efficient. They even performed a song and dance in the evening even tho the hotel didn't have many guests. Rooms were nicely renovated and clean. Dinner and breakfast were adequate. Enjoyed both the indoor and outdoor baths. Good value for a very relaxing stay. Thank you to the staff at the hotel who contributed to a very pleasant stay.
- Aki (7/5): Good - dinner and breakfast were delicous!
- Keh (8/5): Very good - I have a wonderful stay in Gokasanso. The location is centralised and ideal to visit all Gassho house Heritage site. The meals are not boring as the chef will not repeat the same dishes for my 4 days stay in Gokasanso. I like the staff giving us dance performances of Kokiriko. It is a memorable experience. The corridor leading to the lift before going to the female onsen was rather chilled. It will be good to have the heater on. There are some beetle found in the room but it's harmless.
- Kim (7/5): Good -
- Kim (7/5): Good -
- K (8/5): Good stay - Friendly staff. Great outdoor onsen. Delicious breakfast and dinner. Insects from the forest
- K (8/5): Very good -
- Ong (9/5): Superb - Enjoyed the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of the property. Dinner and breakfast were delicious with variety of tofu. Performance after dinner was entertaining. It was raining, staff was not available to help with luggage.
- Eugenia (5/5): Not worth the price paid! - The large onsen facilities & being tattoo friendly. The lobby was also pretty, and homely. There were a ton of bugs both in the room & around the hotel (interior). Some were alive and dead. There were dead dragonflies in the onsen too. Kinda gross.
Food wasn’t served in the room. Food was also so-so, but I guess due to the location, it was the only place with food at night.
- Eugene (9/5): Superb - Good meals, attentive restaurant waitress, clean room with good facilities
- Terence (10/5): Exceptional -
- Terence (10/5): Exceptional -
- Huimin (10/5): We three siblings brought our 90yo mom to the area to celebrate her birthday. She told us she will come back to this hot - Food is much much over my expectations!
All meals were prepared with local produce and almost 100% whole food. There’s not much to see in the tiny small town.
- Wen (7/5): Good -
- Lucy (8/5): Little bit rundown but still good -great onsen - We loved the onsen, the room, the view Not a fan of Japanese breakfast and some of the dinner wasn't to my liking. No bathroom - only toilet - was a surprise, meaning you had to use the onsen - which was great, but maybe not for everyone?
- Joanne (9/5): Worth the extra cost. - Great location for those wishing to see the Gassho farmhouses off the beaten path. Welcoming staff and a little show for tourist on certain nights. Price included two wonderful meals in common area with other guests - two seating options for both breakfast and dinner. Enjoyed the outdoor onsen and parking was very convenient. Can't think of anything
- Kiri (9/5): Great place to have a delicious dinner, hot bath, and great night of rest. - The rooms were very spacious and comfortable and the food was delicious.
- Shlomit (8/5): Traditional hotel in the mountains of Gokayama - The hotel is located on a mountain with a great view. The room was quite big but had no private bathroom only toilet. However there was a public bath which was very nice. No private bathroom
Meals were included in the price (which wasn’t cheap) but they did not have enough vegetarian and vegan options, although they really tried.
The location of the hotel was a bit too far for us
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Francesca (6/5): Pleasant -
- So (8/5): Comfort and peaceful, nice hotel - Spacious room
- M (7/5): Good - Large ryokan, close to ainokura. We had dinner and breakfast, which were good. Large free parking. Rooms are spacious. Onsen with inside and outside baths and beautiful views of the mountains. Very quiet No choice of time for dinner (6pm) even though the hotel was quite empty. A lot of hair in the shower part of the onsen
- Bin (10/5): Comfortable and Clean hotel - Nice Ryokan with Onsen. Comfortable stay Please note that Room with private toilet does not mean room also have a bathroom. For bathing you need to go to the bath point in the onsen. The hotel did indicate that bathroom are shared. Perhaps it could have highlighted this more prominently.
