The location is perfect, with breathtaking views that you never get tired of, and everything is just a short, pleasant stroll away - from the historic city centre to the beautiful beach. The rooms were comfortable, well-appointed, and added to the overall relaxing atmosphere of the hotel. The vibe of the place is truly special - calm, stylish, and effortlessly inviting. Breakfast was another highlight, with a great selection and a lovely setting to start the day. We couldn’t have asked for a better experience. bettycT2896CF (10/5): A taste of old Italy - From the moment we arrived we were greeted and treated like royalty by Georgia who went out of her way to make us feel at home. The location makes it easy to get to old town, just a ten minute walk. The hotel and its grounds were immaculate and the views incredible. We booked one of the 1st floor rooms with a Jacuzzi tub on the private balcony and discovered a problem with the heat. Within minutes of notifying the front desk Massimo the owner, came and offered us the opportunity to move to a comparable room which we did. The hotel was recently upgraded and the room was spotless. Breakfast was outstanding with a great deal of variety and a wonderful lunch menu as well. Staff was friendly, polite, and attentive. Cannot say enough good things about this place and would highly recommend it!

The hotel rests quietly above the cliffs, overlooking the luminous Spiaggia del Convento, where dawn and dusk unfold like perfectly timed sequences of color and stillness. Each member of the team was genuine, attentive, and infused every interaction with gentle elegance and care. My room carried the essence of Calabria — refined, serene, touched with local artistry — and each morning’s 5-star level breakfast could have been the opening frame of a film on authentic Italian life: fresh, generous, and full of soul. I left with lasting gratitude and a promise to return — because some places, and some people, remind you that hospitality at its finest is not service, but storytelling and art from the heart. Marc (10/5): - We wre running late for our arrival and did so after dark...which on Italian roads can be a scary thing for sure! When we arrived the staff was very welcoming and recognized we were a little rattled and poured us all a glass of wine and we just chatted for a bit to relax....and they were closing for the season the next day! The rooms were great and having the balcony doors open all night to here the waves and the breezes was sort of the best way to go to sleep. Breakfast was great, staff really went out of their way to allow us to do our laundry at the marina and come back to repack for the next phase of the trip...all while they were trying to do season close down! They were just wonderful folks and we would totally stay here again if we ever make it back to Tropea. Wished we could have stayed longer

From my room's balcony and from the hotel terrace, you can see the ocean, Stromboli, truly amazing. It offers access down a long stairway to a fantastic beach club with swimming, activities, chairs, umbrellas, a restaurant - perfect location. Easy ~6 minute walking to the scenic old part of the town with restaurants, bars, historical attractions. The rooms were very comfortable and actually quite spacious for Italy. The staff was incredibly helpful and the service was outstanding. I would very much plan to stay here again, highly recommend it!! All great!

No difficulties at all. Francesco was a wonderful bar tender and the person who greater us at the front desk who handled our bookings (Jackie?) was outstanding.
Susan (10/5): - This is a lovely hotel in a great location…10-15 minute walk to the old town with restaurants and shops. The ocean views are wonderful with chairs all Ali g side in order to enjoy it. The ocean is reachable by a staircase…lots of stairs but I felt safe using them. Our room was large, beds and pillows were comfy. The room was cleaned every day. Breakfast which was included was delicious with lots of variety. The staff were all very friendly. Francesco is the bartender and was always there when we wanted a drink and snacks. He made great Mai Tais. There is a small pool…about twice the size of a hot tub. This little pool came in handy for me when I reached the top of the stairs from the beach…very refreshing. Beautiful outdoor lounges and table and chairs. My one complaint would be their hair dryers…just a nozzle really with hot air. Other than that, I would highly recommend this beautiful hotel.

michaelj180 (10/5): Great place to stay with exceptional staff. - We recently spent 5 days at this wonderful hotel. The location is unbelievable and the views amazing. The rooms are comfortable and the breakfast has everything you need to explore this seaside city. An easy 10 minute stroll into the city centre, where you are blessed with choices to eat or just have a drink and watch the world go by. The beaches in the area are great and most have sand rather than rocks and pebbles. Yes it is a steep walk down to them but after a great day at the beach an Uber back to the hotel saves a climb back!! The staff at the hotel were exceptional, nothing was too much trouble and the bar manager was very informative about local wines. We were fortunate to be there when the chef had a 6 course degustion evening, with paired wines. It was a truly wonderful experience we will always treasure.

timbrad (10/5): A lovely spot - Lovely hotel run by lovely people. This hotel is set above the Tyrrhenian Sea in Tropea, Calabria. It is one of the most idyllic settings we've experienced. Certainly, the beaches are packed with people, but there's no need to brave the crowds when you can sit on their beautiful deck and dip in the small pool which is perfect on a hot, sunny day. The staff is wonderful, and the included breakfast was amazing. We will definitely choose this hotel when in the area. Thanks for a great three days.

Madelyne (10/5): Expected more for the price point - This hotell is in prime position, overlooking the water and a 12 minute walk into the town centre. To get to the beach, they have stairs (184 steps, i counted) snd you can either sit on one of the private beaches, or like us, buy a €10 umbrella and ger comfy on the sand (the hotel supllies brach towels, no limit). The staff were all anszjng snd accommodating, could not fault them. Always ups for a chat, with a smile and they even laughed at our Aussie humour. Our room (305, seaview) was ok sized, with a great L shaped balcony overlooking the sea. The room was a little tired looking, the rain shower didn’t work well as most of the holes were rusted and clogged, but tge hand help shower was supee poweful, so i was happy with that. The breakfast was ggod, greek yoghurt, fruit, museli, nuts, cold meats, cheeses, bread, cakes, boiled eggs, bacon scambled eggs, sausages, espresso coffees (whatever you like), tea, juices and water. All in all in was a good 4 star hotel, but for the average price we paid €390/night, ww have stayed in better. But you do pay for the view. Also, the pool is a plunge pool/spa, not very large, so if like us you wanted a pool to swim, then be aware of this. Would i go back there....hmmm, i did love the position and the staff but fir the price, probably not

Our family stayed there after having been to Tropea for 20 years. It is truly the pearl of the Tirreno! The entire hotel staff were so sweet , patient, accommodating , friendly , helpful , and down to earth. The hotel is very clean and the sunset view from the terrace was breathtaking every evening. Thank you to Georgia and everyone there ! Hope to return again! Maybe for my dad’s next birthday 🎁, God willing !

188dinat (10/5): Spectacular views! - From the moment we arrived, we felt at home and so welcome. Selena along with Paola and Georgia were so kind and helpful with any request we had. From dinner reservations, to booking a massage, they took care of us! Francesco at the bar made amazing pre dinner cocktails as we watched the sunset from the hotels spectacular view. Breakfast was perfect, it was a good variety of options and the coffee was great. Martina made the best crostata for breakfast! There are many steps to get down to the beach however so worth it! We rented sun beds at the Lido Le Roccette at the Rotonda beach. Although it was a 10 min walk to this particular beach area, it was well worth it. We booked a beach front suite on the 2nd floor. The room was a decent size, very clean and bed comfortable. Massimo does a great job running this hotel. If you’re heading to Tropea, I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Roving19896 (10/5): Great views, great room and wonderful staff. - My time at this hotel was superb, even though the weather change and strong winds meant most of my water activities in Tropea were cancelled. The staff are excellent, going out of their way with attention and care. From the moment I arrived after a long and eventful train ride, the staff offered to make up a late night plate of meet and cheese for me, through to their suggestions on what to do, all were outstanding. One tip - if you get the chance to join their special dinner on the balcony, don't hesitate. It was superb. The food, wine and attention given by Maximo and Georgia was first class. Georgia had clearly put a lot of work in to being able to explain in English what each dish was, the origins and the history. Highly recommend the hotel.
woodym19 (6/5): Expensive yet average at best - Hotel is OK, average at best. Staff are lovely, helpful and accommodating. The rooms are in desperate need of upgrading. Never paid quite such a premium for such a depressing room. Located on the ground floor with a patio right next to the breakfast room. When the door was closed, no natural light in the room. You woke in the morning and it could quite literally be the middle of the night. The room had a jacuzzi bath which was old and dated. Shower and bathroom were simply awful. Rain shower head too big for the shower area. Leaked from the edges. Rusty and dirty. Some cheap LED colour changing lights in there. Room wasn’t clean. Floor was filthy but room service did tidy each day, wipe sinks over etc. Not enough hangers when we arrived albeit we had booked for 2 weeks. Beds and linen clean and comfortable and towels changed daily. Some strange African style decor going on which when twinned with dark wood dated, old furniture made the room even darker. On the positive, location lovely. Short walk to town centre although located in quite a run down area of town. View from the terrace stunning along with amazing sunsets. Breakfast was OK. Coffee lovely and plentiful. If, based on the photographs, you’re expecting a pool you’ll be very disappointed as the pool is no more than a plunge pool. As said previously, paid a small ransom to stay here and in my opinion, not worth the price. Has the potential to be incredible but sadly falls well short.

Derxstår at der er pool men det er en jacuzzi, hvilket var skuffende. Sengen var meget hård og hovedepuderne ikke gode. Jeg sov meget dårligt.

Curiosity25267660838 (2/5): Avoid! - Based on our experience I would rate this hotel a 1 star. Prior to our arrival I contacted Rocca Della Sana 3 times to ensure that we had a reservation at Calypso Lido. We had only 1 day set aside for the beach and we wanted to relax and soak in the sun on a sandy beach. I spoke with Paula and Serena. All 3 times they recommended La Rochetta. I specifically said “no” to that and I wanted Calypso. Upon our arrival we were told that we have reservations at La Rochetta. Because it was a Sunday we were unable to find a spot 🥲. They insisted that I didn’t say that I didn’t want to go to the Rochetta. I believe that they are either told by the hotel to book quests there or are receiving a commission. The hotel doesn’t look anything like the website. It’s very tired and requires a serious update. We booked 2 rooms, a double comfort sea room and an upgraded superior sea view. The comfort room is double the size of the superior room. The shower is rusting and very run down. Upon checking my son dropped something on the floor. When I went to wipe it with a wet piece of paper the floor was filthy. I had to request they rewash our floors. The hotel is extremely tired looking and not well maintained. Sitting on the patio enjoying the spectacular view I can see a rusting chain missing a lantern and on the other side a rusting chiain with a rusting lantern. This small item which takes minimal effort is a perfect example of how the property is maintained. Over all disappointment and very underwhelming. Definitely do not recommend.

Our room was lovely, comfortable and clean. The air conditioning was perfect. Every staff member was so friendly and helpful. The breakfast was great. The view of the coast from the hotel is stunning and the location made it very easy to walk to both the beach and downtown Tropea. I would not stay anywhere else. Hotel Rocca Della Sena is a gem!

If you prefer sandy beach you need to walk towards the city center which is about 15 minutes away. We didn’t mind walking as we love the exercise and helps to walk off the drinks / food ! Lots of restaurants in the area in town.

I especially loved the balcony. The breakfast was very nice and offered a lot of nice options. We loved the charcuterie platter and Aperol spritz when we first arrived. Most of all the staff were very friendly. Especially Georgia and Massimo. Very helpful with advice on where to dine and things to do. Our only negative was that our balcony jacuzzi did not bubble.

Pensionerplus (8/5): A lovely, rather exclusive, and expensive B&B. - We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Rocca della Sena though the photographs on the web site do flatter to deceive. Everything is much smaller than the photographs would suggest; clever promotional marketing. The ‘swimming’ pool is basically a very small plunge pool. There are 4 sun beds available at the side of the terrace but in such a cramped area they are like the pool, more of a feature than a functional facility. We had a sea view front room with a balcony, very comfortable, very nice though in reality the balcony is very narrow and cramped - there’s no photo on the web site! The view from our balcony was great, as it is from the lovely terrace. The main web site view/photo would suggest the hotel is very close to the beach, indeed looking directly over it, which it is not. There is a swathe of residential beach front properties and businesses to look over, though one is so high up it doesn’t really spoil the view across to Stromboli in the far distance. It is a great view. There are 173 steps from the terrace down to the coastal road and across to the beach. Access to the beach is restricted due to extensive damage to the beach ‘wall’. The beach is a mixture of sand and pebbles with plenty of sand areas to sit comfortably using the hotel’s beach towels. There are sun shades & beds available at the far end of the beach, but in very limited numbers. Maybe more are available later in the season. There are constant waves crashing onto the beach which is clearly audible in the ocean front rooms, something we loved. Breakfast is excellent in every respect, situated in the lovely room overlooking the terrace. The staff , who couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful, were excellent. It’s approximately 15 minutes walk to the old town which is delightful. The hotel recommended some great restaurants in the old town. A pity the ‘hotel’ doesn’t have its own restaurant, hence it should really be advertised as an up market B&B. Is the ‘hotel’ good value for money? We didn’t think so. Paying over €250 per night, very early booking, non refundable, at the start of the season, (excluding the tourist tax), for basically a B&B with limited and restricted facilities, was in our opinion excessive. In the summer it rises to well over €300 per night! Maybe that’s the going rate for this part of Calabria, though in nearby Scilla, (a smaller, even prettier and delightful town), where we stayed the week before, we had a fabulous B&B with a balcony right on the sea front, in the heart of the old town, for less than half the price! Rocca della Sena is a lovely, if rather exclusive and expensive B&B.

The bathroom and room was incredibly outdated. In my opinion, this hotel was great but could be phenomenal with some slight upgrades to the rooms.

But one of the best features of this beautiful property/charming accommodations is the staff and service. Giorga greeted us upon arrival and was just adorable. Incredibly helpful- provided recommendations for anything we mentioned (her english was great). Francesco at the bar was very attentive every time we sat and the stunning terrace. Selena so very friendly and informative. Highly recommend
