Just barely turning on the heat and room temperature soared to 75 F. Better off without heat and snuggle under the covers as temp dropped to 65.

• Margaret (5/5): If you are looking for basic, this is it. - Our eyes were wide open going in, so we knew what we were getting: a place with many lives, that was built in 1892 as a family mansion (first mayor of Port Townsend), then converted to a school for Jesuit priests, then turned into a hotel with multiple owners over many decades. We've stayed there before, and it's a study in contrasts: Exquisite wood carvings and ornate light fixtures are right alongside peeling wallpaper and grubby carpet, and you will need to navigate around bags from housekeeping piled in the tiled lobby as you check in. Hedges were trimmed and grounds old but not neglected. Mattress was comfy, bath adequate, nice to open the window a crack for fresh air, turn heat on to keep warm. Fridge and TV worked fine. Strangely, there is a Mexican restaurant on the hospital side of the building. It wasn't bad, wasn't great, but took care of business when we were hungry (photo is of sangrias). Hotel's placement is slightly off the track but still accessible to downtown, which helps to avoid the traffic on the main drag. By the way, this place does not give spooky, despite its reputation. Three stories, many stairs and no working elevator. We knew this and were fit enough to handle it, but stairs are a LOT with luggage! Voices carry down dead-straight hallways with no sound-dampening; glass panel on our door did not help with the sound of kids stampeding like a herd of mini-buffalo. I can't imagine what it would be like to keep such a monster clean, let alone keep up with refurbishing and repairing windows, carpets, linens; that said, I didn't want to walk on the bedroom carpet even in socks, and though I saw no evidence of bedbugs (or bugs of any kind), I worried about it all night. Coffee was absolutely awful. Bring your own filter and grind to use in the coffeemaker provided, and you'll be good.
• Brandy (4/5): Hot tub didn't stay full kept draining. No one helped to fix it or accommodate - We had a great time here before this stay . We booked a room with an external hot tub bathroom and as we got there we went to fill it up we realized that the tub wouldn't stay filled it kept draining, we did let the front desk know about but nothing was done i mean nothing. I even took a video of it and showed her so she could see and hear it draining continuously even with the plug up. Not a we wil give a discount sorry for the inconvenience , we will give you a better rate next time . We only come here because you get to have a hot tub in your bathroom thats the whole reason so if it doesn't work it makes for a horrible stay. Also the front desk said she would let the morning front desk lady know about it and when we checked out this morning i talked to the other lady and there was no communication or even a maintenance report. I had to let the lady know to make sure to put in a maintenance report so that this wouldn't happen to the next people that stay in that room / hot tub bathroom. Its just sad we really like this place but felt very unheard or accommodated for the situation you pay a 140 bucks to have a hot tub and it doesn't work it really defeats the purpose of staying there.

• Diana (8/5): The stay was as I expected. It is an older building but very interesting. Price is great. - I've stayed here many times and knew it was an old but interesting building. It's a bit threadbare but very clean and the price point is excellent. The restaurant and bar are convenient and we had drinks at the bar but not dinner. A lot of happy looking people were having dinner there so I assume it was a good place to have Mexican food. The staff at the desk and in the restaurant were very nice. I reserved a cottage thinking it was a stand alone building. Unfortunately it was not, my mistake, and the person in the other part of the cottage talked long and loudly on the telephone both before bedtime and after waking.

• Kimberly (10/5): Enchanting and fun stay - Cozy room, comfy bed and the bathroom was very spacious and clean and bright. Its very enchanting how they updated this castle buy keeping its original charm but not all at feeling like sleeping in an "old dank castle". We are 100% coming back. Next time we want to stay on 3rd floor with water view. We got a peak at those rooms and they looked even better. We were on the second floor this time. Really the biggest concern we noticed was no AC...atleast not in every room that we know of. We stayed in winter so no problem but its something people need to know before booking in summer. And the fridge buzzed pretty lound which can be comforting to some but worth noting.

And Amber Dawn was the sweetest person ive ever meet that worked a front desk so polite and informative, give her a raise!!!!! That there wasn't a breakfast. I would be great if the hotel offered a simple breakfast like freshfruit, bagels , pastries, hard boiled eggs hot coffee, tea . It would totally take this place to the next level .

The bed was really comfortable, and the room large and clean. We didn't have complaints. Thought it may be confusing trying to find your way out during a fire. The hallways are long with alcoves and recessed areas.
• John (1/5): Will not return. - Staff helped me carry my luggage up the 3 sets of stairs to get to the 3rd floor room. Not close to being ADA compliant. You have to climb stairs to even got to the lobby. And if you check in after 10pm, there is not operational elevator. I had to climb stairs to the 3rd floor. There is a ramp to get to the bottom of 2nd set of entry stairs, but not all the way to the lobby. The ramp did not appear to be professionally installed, and the rise/run, the steepness, is not up to code. I could not imagine trying to get a wheelchair up without help.

They didn’t explain that it was a rave and that our room was above the massive speaker and that the windows and furniture would be rattling and moving due to the loud music and vibrations. This part went on until 4am in the morning. It was a nightmare!

We always try a new restaurant for dinner, and visit the candy shop. The castle itself is really cool to explore and the ladies at the front desk are so nice, knowledgable, and very accommodating! This last visit we stayed in the newest room/suite that is for families or large parties, it has 4 beds and a ton of space. It was so fun! There's nothing not to like!

Definitely haunted, we had a variety of experiences but felt zero negative energy. Footsteps, thumps, voices, doors slamming, etc. Very fun! Would recommend.

If I’d made reservations directly with the inn, they would have adjusted dates to cover my error. Lesson learned: don’t use Expedia, book directly with the inn. We stayed at inn a day later and it’s a very interesting refurbished old mansion. Difficult with luggage, not handicap-friendly.

My only complaint was that you could hear everything, which is to be expected in an older building. The upstairs neighbor throwing things and stomping around at 2am was brutal though. Wouldn't recommend for people who have difficulty with stairs.
• David (8/5): Overnighter on a road trip - Great stay at an old heritage Hotel. The facilities could use a little freshening up but however is saying that this is a building that is over 100 years old and that in itself made it a very cool place to stay. Staff was very good and accomodating and took the time to fill us in on the history of the building. a little bit away from town but great views of the bay. Great little BBQ joint two blocks away, doesnt look like much but the food was great. I would recommend this hotel.

• Nicolas (10/5): Great views and historic vibe - Great condition for a historic hotel. Neat history and great ocean views, friendly staff. The on-site Mexican restaurant was delightful. Would book again. Wish there was a continental breakfast.

• Eileen (7/5): Loved the history of the property and the view was spectacular - Full of History and we were tired when we arrived and the dining room was very nice with good food We were on floor 3 and the elevator needed to be operated by the staff, but do t let that deter you, they’re accommodating.

• Michael (6/5): - Room and furniture was worn and could use upgrading. Refrigerator handle was broken. Furniture looked like it was from a thrift store. Mismatched and worn.
• Kjell (6/5): - Noisy from other tenants nearby. Room had a tiny window only for ventilation. Only ice machine was a 100 step round trip from third floor to first floor. No AC. Only one chair to sit. No worth the price by a mile.

• Hannah (3/5): Cute, but poorly maintained - The history of the building was very interesting, and the location was great! The shower in my room didn’t work, and staff offered no solution.

• Vicki (8/5): Nice location - We enjoyed our stay. If you can walk up stairs it's great. The room was a nice size and the bed was comfortable. We had fun playing some of the available games. The handicapped accessibility was difficult for someone with a broken foot in a boot as you had to go uphill which was even more difficult with luggage.

• Suzanne (6/5): - Customer service when checking in was wonderful! Lots of history was provided which we enjoyed. This was our second time staying and both times the bar and restaurant were closed, which was a bummer. We specifically booked again to enjoy their little bar that we’d seen through windows. The property is beautiful but you can hear everything inside and outside, which made sleeping difficult. We most likely won’t return after two visits.
• Dennis (6/5): A bit dissappointing - The staff were very friendly and accommodating and am thankful for their service. I was disappointed in the condition of the hotel. I stay here many times in the mid-1980s and the condition of the hotel was much nicer. From the outdoor grounds not being taken care of to the carpets in the hallways and common areas that seem dirty, never shampooed, or vacuumed. Many scuff marks on hallway and stairway walls. It just seems like the owner is draining money off the hotel and not putting it back into the hotel to make it a rewarding destination stay.
• Cheryl (8/5): - Great check in, staff member was very nice and helpful. Bed was super comfy. Bathroom was uncomfortably warm, sun coming in very large bathroom window at 7am made it extremely hot in there. Bathroom outlet wouldn’t power hair straightener. We loved the charm of hotel overall, especially the lovely woodwork. Would stay again but not in summer due to lack of air conditioning.
• Robbie (10/5): - What a unique and charming place to stay. It was like stepping back in time. The beds were very comfortable. Rooms were quiet. The staff was friendly and attentive. Their restaurant provided a relaxing atmosphere and delicious food.
