- lisalC598BR (8/5): Okay for a special occasion - Overall, the hotel was nice. Lobby and common spaces are well designed and not overly hip or trying too hard. Door/valet staff were indifferent, not particularly welcoming. Front desk employees were friendly and helpful.
I would say some aspects of the hotel are a little rundown although their website indicates a "refresh". Not sure what stage of that they're in. The carpet in our King City view room was badly frayed in places. The sauna and locker rooms were nice but the rooftop hottub was kind of janky -- bar mats laid down next to extension cords running to electrical box hanging out next to the pool, no obvious signage as to where to turn the hottub on, and an outdoor bucket shower with hose hanging down not connected to anything so therefore not working (possibly the don't have it hooked up in winter but maybe put a sign up?) It just didn't feel quite like a $300+/night set up. It was a fun place to hang in the north loop for a night but not sure I would say it was a must try!

- johnsF4609BO (2/5): If you are looking for a sub-standard place to stay - this is your place! - Booked a Suite for my wife, son and I. Website said the suite contained a sofa bed. No sofa bed or even bedding to use on the couch were included in the room. Outdoor pool had cold water, could not stay in it. Sauna was great, but no towels to use to sit on or use to dry off. Called for more towels, was told "we will bring some right up", none ever came after waiting 45 minutes. Overall, poor value for what was promised on the Hewing website. Disappointing experience that I will not repeat.
- 774candisc (10/5): Beautiful well-designed hotel with great staff and good restaurant and bar - This is one of the best hotels I've stayed at in the world. It's cozy, clean, quiet, and gorgeous - exposed brick walls in the spacious rooms, and everything is well designed including the furniture, room layout, lobbies, restaurants, rooftop bar, and other common areas. Staff are friendly, helpful, and the food in the restaurants is terrific. Highly recommend this hotel. Perfect location in an interesting neighbourhood, close to UMinnesota too.
- Cory (10/5): - Was amazing! Cant wait to return!
- Denise (10/5): Elegant building with beautiful touches. - Beautifully appointed!
- V8969PUmattk (10/5): Delightful - Trey was great. Got us set up efficiently and made our stay feel very luxurious.
- Flyinhgh143 (10/5): 10 out of 10! - 10 out of 10! The rooms are gorgeous, service is top notch, and I love the location. the rooftop sauna and bar are really unique.
- 310zakv (10/5): What a View! - Trey provided excellent customer service. Nicely renovated rooms. We had an excellent experience
- Taylor (10/5): - Everything, our favorite part was the spa pool at night looking over the city
- Z9882SQmelissaj (10/5): Hewing Hotel Experience - Came to get some work things done and had the best experience with Trey. He has vibrant, welcoming energy. I want to be his friend!
- beverlymQ56IF (10/5): Great customer service - Frequent the Hewing, but today my encounter with Trey was amazing. He’s friendly and knowledgeable.
- 863yvonnes (10/5): Great for Couples - Beautiful property with a relaxing rooftop hot tub and sauna. Great for a romantic getaway. Friendly staff, comfortable rooms, convenient location.
- 573theodoreg (4/5): Not worth the price - Very low quality for the price. Wait until they have their amenities reopened or find a different location. Incredibly expensive for very little value.
- 846keric (10/5): Great hotel! - I only stayed one night but the hotel staff was kind and welcoming, the room was clean and comfortable, I loved the fitness center set up and the entire hotel had a really cool vibe. The North Loop also has several bars and restaurants within walking distance. I look forward to staying here again.
- Y109HPamandad (10/5): Independently owned chock full of Minnesota coziness - I will recommend this hotel to any out of town visitors. Not only is it located in a safe place that is walking distance to the best restaurants and entertainment but it fully feels like a cozy Minnesota experience. The upstairs hot tub, sauna, and bar are just what was needed in February. Rooms are cute, clean, and comfortable. There was some noise before bar close but mostly quiet the rest of the night.
- laurenaY786KF (10/5): Staycation for the books! - Had a fantastic staycation with my partner and our dog, Magic. The staff was so kind and personable.. Chloe and Trey, thank you again for your hospitality and accommodating our needs.. chefs kiss!!!
- R3514ECtylerf (10/5): Amazing!! - Trey was so helpful 10/10 experience we could not have been happier!!
- KennyS1307 (10/5): Must Visit Location for Locals! - My partner and I booked at the Hewing as a late holiday "staycation" present for each other. Getting there was very easy on public transit, as it is near an LRT stop and on several bus routes.
We were particularly interested in the rooftop sauna and bar, and we weren't disappointed! There was a real magical quality to sitting in the heated spa pool and taking in the Minneapolis skyline at about -10 degrees! The atmosphere at the rooftop bar was excellent: very cozy and great service.
- V4909PCleal (10/5): Best kept secret - The best stay in Minneapolis! Great location, amazing service, excellent staff and amenities. A new favorite stay!
- Jason (7/5): Not as family friendly as I read online, but we enjoyed our stay - The shower was nice and big, good water pressure and temp. Bathroom looked recently remodeled. Beds were comfortable. Fit the family nicely for a night. The toilet didn’t have its own door. There was no microwave, and the fridge didn’t allow for any storage. Lastly, it was disappointing that the pool was closed off to my kids at 5pm on the only evening we were visiting, when there had been no mention of the pool being closed to specific ages at specific times in any of the information I received. We did go the next morning before we left and did enjoy it though!
- 546helinas (10/5): Way More than hospitality - Annika, Anton, and Ruben at the front desk :) in their own ways and together went above and beyond to make me as comfortable as possible. I stay at the hewing a few times a year for a medical procedure at the university of MN, so these stats are often difficult to manage physically. I come to the hewing for the sauna and rooftop hot tub the night before my appointment, driving 5+ hours from Galena Illinois. The warm reception and assistance I received during my stay as well as extended evening stay were above and beyond in every way. The front desk staff were thoughtful, considerate, and kind upon my weary return from my Friday morning appointment. Offering support and care that exceeded all of my expectations. They were more than hospitality that day, they became part of my recovery team. Upon my Saturday departure I was sent off to my journey with the kindness and encouragement that changed the entire experience of the difficult task I had to endure of driving home in severe weather. I felt cared for and as a chronically ill person who also happened to have ran a bed and breakfast in galena meant everything. They don’t know it but they served a service worker and server herself. That speaks volumes! I would also like to acknowledge the valet staff and one young man in particular that was actually able to drive my manual transmission vehicle! An impressive young man and so incredibly helpful! Another young valet driver helped in his absence and showed the utmost professionalism in spite of his limitations in driving standard transmission. 10/10 my best stay at the hewing thus far. I sincerely thank each and every one of you. As I said upon departure, welcome to being officially part of my treatment plan.
- antonkQ319AG (10/5): Great In City Stay - The place is amazing! The rooms are clean. The ambiance is romantic. The shower drain drain very slowly. That is the only complaint.
- kendra612 (10/5): Great Atmosphere - Wonderful location and atmosphere. The staff and bartenders were incredible. Loved dining at the restaurant onsite, as well as the bar.
- Y6673AOamandaa (8/5): Beautiful hotel and great location! - Great location and beautiful hotel!hotel bar and so many restaurants within walking distance even when it's 8degrees outside. We enjoyed a drink at the Just one note, there is water damage in the rooms and hallways
- jennifergV8984GK (8/5): Our favorite spot - We love it here. Some of the shine is off the penny in the maintenance department. Tulibee is always delicious. The rooftop experience is magical always.
- Trail42360907449 (6/5): Front doors locked late at night, no entry with key card - I’m disappointed the front doors don’t open with the key at night and it makes me feel unsafe when I can’t get in with the key. Also it’s really cold to stand outside and there are sometimes shady people hanging around outside late at night. I’d like to be able to come and go with the key and not have to rely on staff/security guards to let me in if they happen to see me try to use the key and the door is locked. Please fix this 🙏🏻
- emilysM7594IA (10/5): Tony's so nice, we visited twice! - I live in Minneapolis and went to the Hewing bar & lounge for a change of pace during the day. It's cozy, comfortable, reasonable volume for working. Cocktails were delicious, service was helpful, and just attentive enough. It was exactly the environment we were looking for and bartender Tony Joe was outstanding (so outstanding, in fact, that we came back 2 days in a row). We'll be back! I guarantee it.
- JBNYC11205 (8/5): Overall recommend - Overall recommend. The room was comfortable and super quiet with cute and stylish touches. The lobby is a spacious hangout that doubles as a local scene, which is a fun vibe to witness. The rooftop hot tub was a great spot for relaxation on a Monday night.
The hotel staff was exceptional despite a mix-up with a late checkout. I appreciated their attention to detail around our preferences including a room away from the elevator. I also travel with my service animal, and it was great that she was welcomed there by name.
The bed and gym were the reason for a -1 star. Our bed was saggy and blown out, and the gym is sad. There are other places nearby to work out (Barry's, SolidCore). But for a hotel of this caliber, I expect a better fitness center.
I’ll definitely stay again and hope for a better bed!
- RickRoss77 (10/5): 10 Paws out of 5 Paws rating! Make your pooch the star with VIP accommodations and service. - The Hewing Hotel is a great place when you want to celebrate or just escape a RUFF time. The dog friendly environment made my four legged friend Reece have the time of her life. Her name being on the VIP board next to her new milkbone obsession bowl was a classy touch.
Having only been a hotel lobby guest in the past - I knew the Hewing was a great place - but I had no idea how amazing the hotel was.
The hotel rooms are amazing. While most hotel rooms are endless sheetrock, here you have luxurious intersecting with loft vibes. Exposed brick, quality bedding and furnishings - are great. I never felt like I was in just a regular hotel experience.
The workout facilities are great. No hotel has it all - but this hotel had enough. Enough for cardio. Enough for a good workout and pump!
The people watching here is amazing. I mean when did Minneapolis start giving Scottsdale Arizona vibes in the winter?
Speaking of winter - the rooftop patio Is amazing. Looking at the lit skyline of Minneapolis gives you the impression you're staring at mountains at night. Adjacent to the bar - I love it when there is cocktail service right to the hot tub. The HUGE Sauna has widows to overlook Minneapolis and give you an open and airy vibe.
The locker rooms give off a luxury spa vibe - and I forgot about the yoga studio they have next to the workout room in the basement.
I stayed here for 3 weeks - and I never got sick of being here. The front desk staff is amazing, caring and compassionate. They even warmed up my leftovers in the morning when I was running short on time.
Id stay here over the W or 4 Seasons anytime.
Come for a cocktail, bring your dog - you'll understand. And if you decide to stay - know that you're in one of the best locations in Minneapolis with epic food choices within walking distance.
** The Wings at Monte Carlo are bomb
** Anything Sushi at Billy Sushi or After Dark is worth making a reservation for
** The Smack Shack - lobster galore.
** And because you're in Minneapolis - your Uber Eats choices are endless. I recommend the pad Thai from Sahwatdee .
- V1886OKangiel (6/5): I really wanted to love this hotel - I really wanted to love this hotel. The aesthetic is beautiful, the location is great, but the parking situation isn’t.
We stayed in the Atrium Junior Suite, and if I had known the window overlooked the open lobby below—and how strongly the bar noise carries—I wouldn’t have paid nearly $500 per night. It was loud, and we could also hear people in the room next to us.
Our first night we ate at the restaurant, and the ceiling pipes were dripping onto my husband’s shoulder (thankfully it missed our food). I had very high hopes, but we left very disappointed.
- 457sif (10/5): Amazing front desk staff (Trey) - I came for a chill night with the girls, and I didn’t know I would leave with an even greater experience. Trey at the front desk was so amazing and brought smiles to each of our faces. His hospitality went above and beyond, every business should have a Trey!
- princesso719 (10/5): Great time! - The atmosphere was great and the food was amazing! I had the burger and it was top tier! We were also helped by Trey and he was great! Will definitely be back!
- 425sorayad (10/5): Trei is amazing - 10/10
Trei had us together the entire time! My girls and I came in for an evening drink. Trei understood the assignment and really took care of us. If I could have a Trei at every establishment I would! He needs a raise!!!!
- T1226PWemmac (10/5): Trey was AMAZING - The atmosphere was great! But Trey was amazing and so genuine and generous. He made everyone smile and laugh so dang hard. I believe that every business needs a Trey! I’m also someone who works in the industry and has top notch! Give him a raise!!!!! Love him. Thank you!
- L8543JOamandaa (10/5): Started my night off right - I came in for my birthday this weekend and was greeted by Trey at the front desk! Super professional but also fun, the kind of person who makes you think every hotel should hire more people like him. He set the mood for a great birthday!
- Adventure305395 (8/5): North Loop stay - OK, four star you because the restaurant and the bar upstairs are nice. There isn’t any hotels in the North Loop that’s what makes it attractive.
The rooms were pretty bare bones for a King room. Any kind of noises because the carpet is thin in the hallway, it does have this office feel to it as we got to the room.
The gym doesn’t have any hand weights, just a funky version of a kettlebell, and a mix of treadmill, elliptical and a peloton.
Room service is not available except for breakfast. Unfortunately, we had to get DoorDash after a night out and getting back just after midnight.
- nickgK1794UV (10/5): Great time - Trey was great to work with. He checked us into a room and gave us complimentary drinks because it was our honeymoon. Wonderful guy. Very happy to be here and he made the experience so much better!
- ShakulT (2/5): Uncomfortable and loud rooms - Very loud fan in the room. We were told all rooms are equally noisy. Be aware of this - you are not getting a quiet night at this hotel. Also the mattress is a spring mattress - ours caved in the center causing us to both roll in towards the middle.
- H354ERmrj (10/5): Where Tre Welcomes You and Merlin Works His Wizardry” - I had an absolutely amazing time thanks to Tre at the front desk and the incredible staff. Tre greeted me like I was a VIP they’d been waiting for all day — warm smile, great energy, and somehow already knowing exactly what I needed before I even said it. The whole team was so kind and accommodating that I started wondering if I accidentally walked into a family reunion I didn’t know I was invited to.
Then there’s Merlin…the bartender, the legend, the moment. I love Merlin! He mixes drinks like a wizard (the name fits!), remembers everyone’s favorites, and has the kind of personality that could turn a stressful day into a great one in five minutes. If joy came in human form, it would probably look a lot like Merlin behind that bar.
Honestly, the hospitality here is unmatched. Between Tre’s front-desk magic and Merlin’s bar-side charm, I didn’t just feel taken care of — I felt spoiled. Highly recommend this place if you want great service, good laughs, and staff that treats you like family.
- D9218ZTianm (10/5): A Perfect Fall Escape at The Hewing Hotel - There’s something magical about The Hewing on a crisp November afternoon—the kind where the sun hangs low, the air is cool but still warm enough to sit outside without a jacket. Their rooftop deck is made for days like this. Golden light, quiet city hum, and the kind of late-fall sunshine you can actually bask in. It’s one of those rare spots where you look around and think, I could stay up here all day.
The staff makes the whole experience feel genuinely warm. Trey at the front desk is funny, charming, and instantly welcoming, and Merlin behind the bar—complete with a beard worthy of the magician himself—mixes some of the best made-to-order cocktails around. No pre-batching, just thoughtful craft and great vibes. The Hewing is simply one of those places where atmosphere, service, and drinks all land exactly right.
- joettaw983 (10/5): Great service at the Hewing! - Trey was such a wonderful presence at the front desk! He was kind, professional and very welcoming. Thanks so much Trey!
- suslovo (8/5): Great for Couples and Friends Get-Together - The hotel is great for couples and friends-gathering events. Its got a nice hot-tub, sauna, and a bar. You can order massages at the hotel spa room. Our room was clean and well-designed. The only frustrating part was the check-in time was 3pm, but we didn't get our room until 6pm.
- lizzykins (10/5): The Hewing Hotel Surprises and Delights! - The Hewing Hotel curated an incredible experience for us! The room, the staff, the rooftop bar and restaurant were 10/10.
- schizznit23 (6/5): A bit overrated - It's decent enough, but the Hewing is overrated in my opinion. I feel nickel and dimed there as they charge $6/bottle for waters in the room. Most luxury hotels provide water as part of the stay. I also don't love seeing a line item for "credit card fee recovery." Again, leading hotels don't do that. Just charge more and eat the cost. I don't want to see it. Drinks in the bar were very short pours at, you guessed it, premium prices.
- 829coryb (10/5): Nice visit - Great hotel with a great staff. The location was close to great restaurants, and I especially appreciated Trey at reception who was an absolute pleasure!
- markhD7660GN (6/5): Room quality misses the mark - Shower drain was backing up, leaving us to shower with our feet in dirty water.
Supplied bathrobes were extremely scratchy and low-quality.
Room lighting was harsh and the only bedside lamp did not work.
- Lisa (10/5): - Very open, cool lobby for gathering, waiting, drinks, meeting. Rooms were clean and well-thought out with an industrial, minimalist decor. The price was a bit steep but access to the roof top pool as an event made it worthwhile. Parking is a headache
- debranitar (8/5): Friendly staff, cozy interior - I recently visited Minneapolis for the first time, and stayed at the Hewing Hotel. My first impression was that it was super warm (vibes wise) and cozy. I loved the design. The staff were also very friendly and helpful throughout my stay, getting me out of a few sticky situations. A special shoutout to Trey who went out of his way with my check in. One tip I would give is to check if the room you are booking has big windows overlooking a street (rather than the back of another building)
- wolverine5000 (10/5): Incredible Service - Great stay! Elle at the front desk went absolutely above and beyond in helping me organize a surprise for my sister's birthday. Beautiful property!
- TheBPRexperience (10/5): Great 10 year anniversary get-away. - Great stayaction in the cities - slept like a baby, the room was very well appointed and loved the nordic vibes and exposed brick. The hotel is a hot spot on the weekends but on Sunday and Monday it was pretty chill.
- h1223456789 (6/5): Just ok - Overall disappointed with the room. Do not pay extra for the city view. We did and got a view of the strip club, not the city side. Check out the restaurant, that part is amazing.
- matthewmU5801IL (10/5): Ice, Ice, Quickly - This place is great. It's so cute and the staff are phenomenally attentive and helpful.
My brother and I stayed for a long weekend and the staff provided everything I could wish for. They were knowledgeable about the city, helpful with every request, checked us in quickly, and very, very friendly. I felt right at home.
When I asked for ice, they sent a bucket up to our room so quickly I couldn't believe it.
Minneapolis isn't that big, but the Hewing is in a hip neighborhood. So many places to eat, like the adorable Cafe Yoto. And just about everything is a short walk or an Uber away.
Price was good.
The hotel and our room were immaculate.
And while the joint was jumping Saturday night, I didn't hear a thing in our room.
- D1598CDjuliao (10/5): We'll definitely be back! - We were in Minneapolis for 3 nights to celebrate our son's wedding on Saturday 10/18.
HIGHLY recommend! Great employees! Great vibe!
- connieg672 (10/5): So much fun - We had a great experience and Trey was so helpful and even upgraded us for our wedding night! The room was amazing! Thank you Trey for being so kind and helpful!!
- 789billiep (10/5): Hats Off to the Hewing Hotel - The Hewing Hotel is the perfect place to rest, eat and play while in the mini-apple. Great staff, amenities, rooms, and common area. We took a giant bite out of Minneapolis in terms of art, sights, food, and enjoying the Minneapolitans, and staying at the Hewing was the best place to hang our hats between indulgences. Hats off to the Hewing!!
- Kati (10/5): - Beautiful hotel, amazing rooftop pool/ bar with stunning views.
- wanderlustny (2/5): The Hewing: Boutique Price, Motel Experience - I stayed at The Hewing for two nights and had one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever encountered — shocking for a property that presents itself as a luxury boutique hotel.
On my first night, the noise in my room was intolerable. At 12:15 a.m., the sound level in my room was 80 decibels as I was trying to fall asleep. I resorted to earplugs and played white noise on my phone to try to sleep. Even then, I was woken at 3 a.m. by a couple fighting above me. The fight was so loud and disturbing that I had a hard time falling back asleep, even with earplugs in. I later learned the couple was removed from the hotel at 5 a.m.
When I woke up, I also realized the room I’d been assigned had no window or natural light — something never disclosed at check-in (I had arrived after dark and hadn’t noticed). I asked to switch rooms the next morning, which they accommodated. The second room was an improvement, but still fell short of what I expected at this price point: it had torn furniture, stained carpets, and thin walls through which I could hear conversations next door.
Meanwhile, the bar atmosphere on our first night was inappropriate and uncomfortable. My friend and I — along with other patrons — watched two prostitutes openly pick up a man. It was so blatant that it became the bar’s entertainment. For a hotel of this supposed caliber, it was shocking that such a thing was allowed, due to the strip club across the street, this is probably a regular occurrence.
After all of this, the hotel’s “solution” was a token credit of $29.47 from my bar tab — against a room bill of $851.38 for two nights. There was no meaningful compensation for the sleepless first night. This level of service and accountability is unacceptable for what is supposed to be a luxury hotel.
Bottom line: I left exhausted, disappointed, and feeling taken advantage of. If you’re looking for a truly restful or professional hotel stay in Minneapolis, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere.
- sewingcircle (10/5): Best rooms and location in the city - The Hewing is in a clutch location in Minneapolis. We were able to park and walk everywhere we needed to go and staff helped us find our way. The accommodations are lovely, sauna, pool, bar. There was a lot going on and the staff was friendly and attentive. The rooms were quiet, clean and well appointed. We had to be up and out early and there was coffee in the lobby waiting for us.
- nancywZ9579QV (10/5): Great location - Great Location and super stylish hotel. The roof bar was quite cool and the rooms are nice! Close to many restaurants and to the river.
- rrippy (10/5): Great spot for drinks and views - This is about the rooftop lounge not the hotel property itself. Cool scene in the North Loop area with excellent views and cocktails.
- Jeffrey (10/5): - Friendly and helpful staff. Rooftop bar was a real treat.
- Ashley (10/5): - Rubin was great at the front desk! Room was clean. Amenities were great.
- mickshrimpton (8/5): Hewing @ $500 per night…. - I’ve probably stayed here 10 times and have reviewed most of my prior stays on TA. Two nights here on business. The first room I was assigned had no desk so I was graciously moved to a second floor room directly above the lobby. I was concerned about noise from street and lobby but no issues and great sleep as always here. I was glad to read in recent reviews the hotel is undertaking renovations in 2026 because the hotel is showing its age, especially the hallway carpets. Please consider moving your gym upstairs to daylight when you renovate. Staff was kind and helpful as always. But the Hewing is starting to exceed its value proposition. This is not a $450 per night per basic room kind of place. The Four Seasons can get away with that pricing in MSP but not the Hewing. Add the OUTRAGEOUS valet parking charge of $58 per day plus tax and my two night stay exceeded $1,050 for only room and parking. May take a year or two off from the Hewing and see where we are after the refresh.
- Paloma (10/5): - Excellent!
- Jennifer (10/5): - The decor is very unique and interesting. The lobby bar and rooftop bar were outstanding, especially since there was a free concert the guests could attend.
- Lane (10/5): - The staff throughout the hotel were fantastic. Our room was very stylish and clean. We enjoyed the roof top bar and had a delicious dinner in the attached restaurant, Tullibee. This will definitely not be our last stay there.
- Nicole (10/5): - Great time!
- NorthStar06280203252 (10/5): Perfect Anniversary Trip - We stayed here for our anniversary and it was great! Friendly and helpful service. Wonderful amenities, amazing rooftop pool and sauna, lovely bars and restaurant. The food was delicious! Definitely try the Bloody! Many fun shops to walk to nearby. Valet parking only, so budget for that, but totally worth it.
- Ivvet (10/5): - Such a great hotel!
- hcz2025 (10/5): Great Stay Overall - Reuben and Jordan were delightful. They made every attempt to make sure we were comfortable. I had trouble sleeping my first night but the staff’s attentiveness turned things around. Great location also with lots of things going on nearby.
- Thomas (10/5): - The hotel was nice, the staff was great. Parking was expensive, but thats what you get downtown.
- Eric (9/5): -
- JsnRCarr (10/5): Great north loop hotel - Fantastic place with a good vibe and great food. We had an interior room with a nice atrium window (jr suite). The neighborhood is a great place to hang
- Nomad789680 (2/5): Wanted to love but left severely disappointed. - The good is a the location and the rooftop patio. The bad is the broken treadmill’s and row machine and musty smell in our room. Also, the bad was an additional cost for valet parking, which was not mentioned on the website. The ugly is all the ripped stained and worn furniture throughout the hotel. It definitely in is in need of some TLC. I would not recommend staying as the price does not equal value. Attention to detail seems to be lacking from the management. From the broken gym equipment, the smells in the hotel rooms, the severely worn out furniture in the lobby and not updated website, including suggestions for breweries that were closed and not mentioning the additional cost of valet parking. I really wanted to love this hotel due to its location and amazing rooftop views. It just left me disappointed at every turn.
- Jurigafun (8/5): Fun Young Vibe hotel - The hotel's location was perfect for our stay. It has a fun, young vibe. The reception staff was wonderful. Breakfast was delicious every day. The valet was disappointing. There was zero curb-side help, which, considering the quality of the hotel, was disappointing.
- 261JeremyW (10/5): Escape to the City - Great roof top city views, sauna, hot tub, bar, room and our room was awesome. Central to everything, including two Saturday farmers markets.
- 87dony (10/5): Great facility - Very attentive staff. Breakfast was exceptional. Very clean facility. Enjoyed our stay although it's not cheap. Bed one of the most comfortable we've experienced.
- E9340HLmadisonj (10/5): Always love the Hewing - I love the Hewing because it's super versatile - great for getting work done; great for a trip with friends; great for a romantic weekend; great for some solo recharge time. This was the first time I had tried the fitness center - great equipment and great space!
- Craig (10/5): - We heard about the Hewing from friends and we loved everything including the lobby/bar, our room, it was clean nice and we really enjoyed the rooftop hot tub. 10/10 and we will be back.
- Patrick (10/5): - Perfect!
- Paul (10/5): - Amazing staff and very friendly and had a wonderful time and a very, very amazing experience eating at the hotel as well. The trout was amazing! Thank you so very much!
- M4498CNkaylag (10/5): Worth the wait - I am so glad I finally visited the Hewing Hotel. I had heard about it probably 8 years ago, so I had some high hopes and expectations. Hewing hotel's staff, building, and amenities - blew my high expectations out of the water. I would highly encourage anyone to go for a solo treat yo-self weekend, a couple's weekend, a girls' weekend, but I wouldn't go with kids simply because I would want to enjoy all the Hewing has to offer without my kid bothering me ;)
- B8674OCmichaelk (6/5): Beautiful hotel, poor service and ammenity offering based on what's advertised - The hotel is beautiful, neat rooms and the location is great, but the service is really poor leading to a lackluster experience. Room service wasn't available nor was the front desk willing to place your pick up order for you - they ask you to come down and do it yourself. Then the menu at Tulibee for breakfast had many items not available. The sauna was large but had loose floorboards that felt unsafe and the plunge bucket was there and looked cool but was completely non-functional. For the price you pay to stay here, these are all pretty basic fails. My wife and I are really laid back on these types of things and were super excited based on how well the hotel is represented online, the actual experience just fell very short. The value for the price just wasn't there.
- travelingprofmom (4/5): - My first review did not post as of now, so trying again. Very poor experience. Rude and dismissive front desk staff with full on Gen Z stare in response to most minimal inquiry such as "is there any update to the elevator outage, we do have someone with a disability so stairs are not preferred?" or "our phone is not working in the room, what is the best way to order room service" or "I am sorry to trouble you, but I cut myself accidentally and do you happen to have a bandaid" or "Excuse me, may we please store our bags at checkout for a while"? Truly met with bland dismissiveness or a sigh of inconvenience and even an eye roll once while they answered or responded. The rooms on weekend are SO loud until well past 2am. Not just noise from rooftop and streets, but stomping and creaking from wooden floors above. Mattresses need updating - they sag. We never received an itemized bill on paper or via email despite requests to check charges. Speaking of charges - this place is WILDLY overpriced for the level of service and care exhibited by staff and the noisy and inconvenient experience. The positives? We enjoyed the rooftop at night but weird that as a guest you walk through the blazing hot Sauna prep area to get to it. Superb staff and bevs in Tullibee bar/restaurant and a great location to shopping and dining and so on in downtown Mpls. In my opinion, you are paying for location, not service or comfort. Keep that in mind as you consider other well-established brands in the area for a similar - or even cheaper - price.
- yeslia2016 (10/5): Love it! - Great hotel, 20 minutes walking distance from the Arch with great restaurants close by. Love the decoration and the bed is so comfortable.
- viju (10/5): - Great location, excellent dining, happening hotel.
- I7456NWlindsays (6/5): Meh. - The rustic vibes have turned a bit rundown. Dark and damp rooms, carpet missing in places, curtains spread dust everywhere when you move them, furniture in the rooms feels like an old cabin. You can feel the indentations in the mattresses. Only one operable elevator for the whole hotel and also for the public visiting the rooftop. Rooftop is nice, sauna was great. Tullibee is amazing and the walking distance to everything in North Loop can't be beat.
- 723jodik (10/5): Love this place - It was an absolute joy!!! to stay here and a great area to explore!! The food (we ate here for dinner and breakfast) and ambience were super!!!!
- Achmed (10/5): - Great Location.
- Nicolette (2/5): - Awful hospitality for the price. Do not recommend spending the money to stay here. Take your money elsewhere.
- 35geoffrey (6/5): Eh, fine. - Our four-night stay at The Hewing was just okay. While the location was convenient and in a cool area, and the staff were friendly, I wouldn't choose to stay here again.
Unfortunately, the downsides outweighed the positives. Our king-bed room faced an alleyway, offering almost no natural light. The room felt consistently dark and a bit depressing. We inquired about moving to a brighter room after our first night, but were told it would cost an additional $25 per night, which we declined. The room itself was adequate but showed signs of age.
One of the main reasons we booked this hotel was for the rooftop pool. While its small size wasn't an issue, the complete lack of umbrellas or any shade meant we skipped the pool altogether due to the 90-degree heat and full sun. Additionally, only one elevator was operational throughout our entire stay, which was a pain, especially during busy weekend nights when the rooftop bar was busy.
- Shannon (6/5): 4 seasons next time - this hotel looks cute online and it looked like it was in a great area (it was), however it left a lot to be desired. We were there over the july 4th weekend, however our room was never served on 7/4. they refreshed the towels and made the bed, but nothing else. they did not refresh the dirty glasses, bathroom sundries or clean up the room in any way. In addition, the hallway carpeting was dirty and stained. the carpeting in our room was ripped at the threshold of the bathroom, as were the towels and sheets. Both the desk chair and the headboard were material, which i do not like, it feels very dirty. The bathroom floor was sticky (which can be from too much soap). in addition, the safe did not work and I had to call 3 times to get someone up to the room so that we could leave.
- Avi (10/5): - Great hotel. Good location
- Sightseer12125727128 (2/5): Book at The Four Seasons instead - I'm so upset I spent as much as I did only to ruin my honeymoon. I hated the entire experience. Made the mistake of staying on a Friday night. The rooftop bar is opened to the public and was ridiculously busy. Our room was directly under the bar, so all we heard all night was a noisy bar. In addition, the elevators were tied up all night with drunk people going to the bar, so we could not use them. As a hotel guest you still have to wait in line for the elevator with all the drunk college kids. I specifically booked this to enjoy the rooftop hot tub, however it was full all night. The hot tub and surrounding area was for hotel guests only, however people were letting others in that were not hotel guests. So the entire area and hot tub were packed with drunks. So much for a romantic night. Bartender was rude. Two drinks was $44, with nowhere to sit to enjoy it. Walls were paper thin. Could hear our rowdy neighbors all night. One tiny window in our room that we could only see out of if we crouched down. No parking , so you have to pay for valet. I should have just stayed at a Four Seasons or even the Hilton. I don't recommend this at all.
- Alyson (10/5): - Amazing hotel and atmosphere! The staff even helped me zip up my bridesmaid dress as I was in a rush. You know they go above and beyond each day.
- crystalmR622TR (10/5): Great Location, Fun Atmosphere, Clean Everything - Recommend the Hewing Hotel to friends and family alike. My stay was associated with a business trip but the location is great (close to neighborhood bars + restaurants). The property itself is very lively in the evenings with a great rooftop. Great shops around and close to the Twins Stadium.
