Guest Reviews
- James (10/5): - Good clean property
- Michael (8/5): - A/C worked reasonably well but trying to set it at the desired level was tricky. Two flies and a mosquito were in the bathroom.
- Scott (8/5): - The property is a Vega institution and doesn't pretend otherwise. If you want a clean, comfortable and convenient spot to get off the freeway, grab a hot shower and a good night's rest the Bonanza is your oasis.
- Ken (10/5): - Choices in Vega are limited. The Bonanza was the best choice! It's an old property but well maintained and kept very clean. If you need to spend the night in Vega this place isn't bad!
- Lori (10/5): Cute little place to rest - Staff was very nice and helpful. Room was pretty clean, A/c was cold once the room cooled off and fridge was cold as well. Bathroom was very nice and clean. I was traveling solo from MO to NV and needed a place to shut my eyes. I prefer small local places over Brand hotel experiences. Town was cute but everything closed at 8 or 10 with a good meal. Overall, I it nice and quite and would stay again.
- cynthia (8/5): Good i will stay again - Its good to stop and have a good sleep, great value for the price and room is clean, bathroom is big and the area quiet and we felt safe
- Sheryl (8/5): Quite nice - We had a comfortable, clean room. The A/C worked well (important in the Texas summer heat). The proprietor is very nice and kind. All in all, a great stay. I took off one star, because there are very few electrical outlets in the room which aren't already dedicated to lights and appliances.
- Billy (10/5): - Have nothing bad to say about my stay at the Bonanza. The worst thing was that only half of the channels worked on the TV. Lightning probably hit and knocked out one of the elements. No big deal, more than enough channels to choose from. Everything else was fine. The bed was comfortable, and the shower was good, the owners were great, no complaints.
- Margaret (10/5): - This is a great place to stay for the price.
- Joshua (10/5): - Nicely renovated old Route 66 motel!
- Thomas (6/5): - The AC unit was on its last leg and was extremely noisy.
- Marlene (8/5): - We missed having a breakfast at the hotel, even a complimentary one.
- Warren (10/5): - Don’t let the let the sleepy small town old style looks fool you. The rooms are very clean, spacious and comfortable. The bed was firm but not too firm and cable tv had many options. Perfect for a nice stopover.
- Tori (10/5): Family owned motel - Family owned motel. Great value. Clean! They were willing to help us in the middle of the night.
- Rebecca (8/5): - Great place to stop for the night just west of Amarillo. Spacious room with huge bathroom, fridge and microwave.
- Cheryl (10/5): - It was a bedroom that I could sleep in which is what I needed
- sj (10/5): - No thao
- Dorothy (10/5): - The property looks like an old western type Motel. I drove by it the first time around because it doesn’t really stand out. And there didn’t seem to be much in that area anyway.
But, as other reviews have said, it is a wonderful place to stay. My room was really clean, actually exceeded my expectations. I had a microwave and refrigerator as well as an AC unit. I got there about 5 PM and it was 96°. Unfortunately they don’t turn on the AC or the refrigerator, leaving it up to the guest when they arrive so it took a while to cool things down. But everything worked just fine. There was plenty of hot water and the shower pressure was great. I would absolutely stay there again. The man at the front desk who checked me and said he was the owner and has been there 25 years. He was very obviously proud of his well kept property and rightly so.
- Jason (8/5): - Overall, a pleasant stay. Can't beat the price. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The only complaint I have, is that I checked in late at night, and the light by the door of the room had attracted every bug in the panhandle of Texas. Not sure that problem has a great solution, lol. I would recommend Bonanza if you need a pitstop/place to crash on a budget.
- Leslie (8/5): - Funky little motel but clean and just off Route 66
- Adam (10/5): - Quiet and affordable. I prefer these types of places in my travels.
- Leslie (8/5): - Ok
- Maria (10/5): - Looking at the outside, it is an older motel, but the rooms have been completely redone. Very nice! Our room was on the south side, away from the highway. PET FRIENDLY!! no grass by our room, but if you walk to the front of the building there is. Was a pleasant surprise!
- Vacation12274864741 (10/5): Bonanza Motel is Fantastic!! - This is the best welcome I have ever had in Texas. While scary from the outside, the owners are some of the loveliest people you will ever meet. The rooms are very clean and reminds me of the early 2000s. They are cute, fun, and had a great time! Very cool!
- Elizabeth (8/5): - This place is in the middle of nowhere and the interior was surprisingly much nicer than the exterior would lead you to believe.
- Diane (10/5): - Comfortable bed, updated bathroom, overall pleasantly surprised, compared to other I-40 budget stays. thank you 😊
- Georgia (10/5): - We had a Great stay. Clean and comfortable.
- Ramona (8/5): - The outside plane but the inside pleasant surprise.
- John (10/5): - very nice,quiet, nice employees.
- keith (8/5): Bonanza vega Texas stay - When traveling I-40 through Oklahoma Texas New Mexico I try to stay motels that are far off I-40 due to noise and train. I like staying here because it's really quiet away from traffic. Also good selection of pillows. Would prefer you still have little soap bars and not the liquid stuff from a dispenser.
- STAN (10/5): - Room was clean and very comfortable. Staff was very easy to work with. Great value. Will stay here again
- Me_n_my_rucksack (2/5): Possibly the worst accomodation I have been unlucky enough to endure..... - I have reviewed hundreds of hotels and Motels and rarley if ever give a 1 star, but this motel deserves a 1 star, if only because 0 is not an option.
We arrived late in the evening having reserved a room prior. The rooms form a U shape with parking in the middle. Parked in the middle was a large truck with its engine throbbing away loudly. On check in we asked what was with the noisy truck.... apparently the driver was a guest and the engine was running the chiller. We wouldnt hear the awfull din in the rooms we were told and the truck would soon be gone.
These were lies, and lies delivered with a smile (which is just insulting). If we hadn't been incredibly tired we would have simplly left. The engine noise was as irritating in the room as it was outside. The truck droned on, making it difficult to sleep, until it left at 3am ! Who on earth runs a Motel like that ? Who lets a trucker leave a truck with its engine running outside sleeping accomodation for hours ?
We tried to drown out the noise with the TV, which had no digital channels and only 1 analog one. One channel !
The room was dusty (see picture).
To be fair wifi was ok and there was plenty of hot water.... which is handy for passing the time online because you can't sleep due to the engine noise and you get up early for a shower so you can leave ahead of time.
As stated I have reviewed hundreds of hotels, but this stands out not because of high expectations not being met because of restrictions in fascilities or staffing or some reasonable failing.... but because of a deliberate total lack of concern for paying guests. (...and the crappy TV ....and lack of clenliness).
For your own sanity avoid this place. (Unless you have a loud truck andyou need to keep the engine running all night in which case this is possibly an ideal location).
- Paul (2/5): Loud engine noise all night - dirty room - AWFULL. - There was a refrigerated truck sat outside with its engine running - motel owner said it would be gone soon and you wouldn’t hear it in your room. Huge lies. Loud engine till 3am ! Room dirty - sticky surfaces and dusty. TV analog only with only 1 channel ! Worst motel (or hotel of any kind) I have stayed in. If I wasn’t so tired I would have left after 20 mins. Disgraceful. WiFi was ok. That’s about it.
- Michael (10/5): - Right on Route 66, our room was perfect for our needs….cozy bed, hot shower, refridge & microwave. Check in was easy and quick.
- John (8/5): - Very quiet area if you don't mind lack of dining in the area
- lydia (8/5): - Clean room
- PRISCILLA (6/5): Passing thru - Was just an overnight. Able to sleep in, which was greatly needed. Clean & comfy enough. Stayed in rm 124, washing face at sink was fine, hot water existed. No shower tho cuz water only reached luke-warn. Also outlet in bathroom (for hair dryer) didnt work.
- LORETTA (8/5): - Your app said included breakfast but it doesn't
- Scott (10/5): - Very clean place. Comfortable. No issues
- Ruben (10/5): - Very straight forward. Quick turnaround from checking in to the room
- Verified traveler (10/5): Fantastic - Very clean, cozy and welcoming room! We slept amazingly and were so thankful for a clean and spacious place to rest.
- Mellissia (10/5): - What a lovely, retro motel! Staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed. Located along Route 66- so cool! It was neat to just pull up and park in front of our room. Reasonably priced too!
- Judie (8/5): - The rooms were a surprise, because it is an old '50's type U-shaped motel with all outside access. The owner has done a lot of work to upgrade and modernize the room interiors. Check in was helpful in giving us a map and outlining restaurants.
- Nancy (10/5): Recommend - Very clean. Older but updated. Friendly and helpful.
- Seyid (8/5): - Everything was great except some of the towels had stains and the hair dryer wasn't working.
- George (8/5): AC problems - Room was clean and well maintained. However the air conditioner filter was dirty and smelled bad. You could not read the controls on the ac. It was 7 ft from floor and the printing was very small and very hard to read. You need a chair, light, magnifying glass to read.
- Donald (8/5): - I have stayed here a few times now as a solo traveler on a cross country trip. It's quiet, clean, and the internet works. I did have to plug the fridge in and set the clock, but everything worked.
- Belinda (10/5): - Bonanza is a very nice hotel inside. Yes, it's an older hotel and while very well maintained ot shows on the outside. Step into your room and its very modern and clean. The area is safe as only small towns can be and very quiet at night. Enjoyed my stay and will be using them again.
- Mark (10/5): - For a budget motel, it was a great value. We would certainly stay there again.
Two minor issues: 1) the nightstand lights need to be upgraded from Ethernet connections to USB. 2) the shower stall was slippery when first getting in.
I hope this facility does well; it certainly deserves it.
- Adam (8/5): One nite stay - Cheap and Clean, all I require for an overnight stay while on the road.
- LIsa (10/5): Very very clean - For an older hotel on Route 66 this hotel ROCKS! This place was so clean! We just needed a place to sleep on our way to Colorado! Great value!
- V132SUsheilap (10/5): Good Night Sleep - Clean room. Good air conditioner. Slept all night. Safe, peaceful spot.
It was nostalgic, but was not run down. The bathroom has definitely been remodeled within the last several years. Nothing fancy, but a solid hotel. I would stay again.
- Wayne (10/5): - We really appreciated how convenient the room was to our route to travel. Chek in was also smooth and easy.
- Leeann (10/5): - Room was clean and the staff was friendly
- Cassandra (8/5): - Clean and quiet would stay here again
- gayle m (10/5): - All good. Very spacious room. Comfy beds. Good wifi. Good shower.
- Dawn (10/5): - Very clean. Price was great! Spacious room. Well decorated. The plant was a nice touch.
- Eric (10/5): Quick stop in Vega, TX - Very clean and quiet.
- CayceCleveland_Ohio (10/5): Homey, some smoking rooms, great restaurant nearby - It looks a bit frumpy outside but bed is comfy, shower immaculate. Room cozy, tv works well. Has frig and microwave and desk etc. affordable. Some rooms allow smokers. Be sure to have dinner at Vega vista. Better steak than Black Angus!. Affordable , quiet, retreat from the road.
- Linda (10/5): - It’s close to the interstate for easy on/off access.
- Shawn (10/5): Glad we gave this hidden gem a chance! - Great little motel with the perfect combination of retro and modern. Very clean and comfortable with nice staff.
- Razel Junne (4/5): - Room was dirty. Surfaces were not clean. Door doesn't close shut. Microwave is broken. Heater barely works.
- Stephen (6/5): Is it always about making a buck? - The
3building and grounds seemed welcoming and service was friendly.
I had to make a quick trip to Missouri so I booked a stay on the way out and one for the way back.
The first room was clean and set up nice and I slept well. The room I had on the way back was not clean in my opinion and I had a few bite marks here and there after I left. And the bed cover should be ether cleaned and free of STAINS or burned ! And owners should try turning on the heat before people arrive..
- Dudley (10/5): Cozy - Nice little place.
No highway noise. Quiet.
Cozy.
- O1232BFsusanb (8/5): Great price and clean!!! - Very clean, easy access. Great price. Refrigerator. Micro wave. Good wifi. TV lots of channels. Easy check in. Play ground A few blocks away. Bring food. Not any place to purchase any.
Stay on old route 66.
- Kevin (10/5): - Excellent room, modern and clean. Motel looks old on outside befitting its age as a Route 66 motel but the room was remodeled and modern.
- Tamara (8/5): - The room was dated, but very roomy. The bed was comfortable. We were pleased with our choice.
- Donald (8/5): - quiet, not busy, good place to stay if you just need a decent overnight stay on a road trip.
- Haley (10/5): - My dad was driving across country and got stuck in a severe storm. Luckily, he was by far from Vega and we found this hotel based on positive reviews. My dad was very happy with it. He said it was older but was perfectly clean and cute. He had a good night’s sleep and hit the road again after the storm passed. Worked out well for him!
- Verified traveler (6/5): Nice quiet place and comfy bed on Route 66 - This stay was quiet, off the highway a bit, and convenient for Indian food at the nearby gas station. Bed was comfortable and everything clean and renovated with nice paint colors, fridge and microwave. Vega was a great stopover only an hour from Palo Duro canyon and the price was a good value. The only inconvenience was that the day had topped 100 degrees F and booking an hour in advance didn’t prompt the owners to prepare the room temperature in advance of our arrival so even with the AC going full blast it was over 100 in the room (we know because it was starting to cool down outside to the 90’s) and took a few hours to get to a reasonable sleeping temperature. Ear plugs for the blowing AC helped. Overall very pleasant owners and we would stay again but book earlier and contact them to get the room ready. Nice quiet place and comfy bed right on historic Route 66 in a traditional motel made cute and modern.
- Lucia (10/5): - Super clean and neat. Very spacious bathroom and bedroom!
- Cindy (8/5): Nice place to stop along the road. - The room was spacious. The bathroom had a walk-in shower that was very nice. I liked the shampoo/shower gel dispenser in the shower and the soap dispenser by the lavatory.
- Thomas (8/5): - The bathroom was beautiful, unfortunately the area is old and run down.
- Bartholomeus (4/5): - The room was quiet, but very hot when I arrived. I would suggest that the owner turns the air-conditioning on once the booking is made. That's my only real complaint. The air-conditioning is very noisy (but that's the case in every motel). So I didn't sleep particularly well.
- Michael (2/5): RUN AWAY - The room stunk of mold and rotted food; The Bathroom door was held on my 1 hinge. Required an entire can of Lysol to even breathe. You'd be infinitely better off sleeping in your car; or even under your car. STAY AWAY.
- Roger (2/5): - Wouldn’t recommend this motel.
But it does have huge potential
- Victor (8/5): - everything was good
- DAVID (10/5): - Great place. Easy access lots of parking.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Simple and quiet. No frills. - It is a quiet, simple room. We were tired and needed a good nights sleep. It had everything we needed.
- Adam (10/5): Clean and Super Quiet! - Clean, quiet, well lit. Nice bathrooms, the floors were warm (not sure if heated?) which felt nice! Great option if you have a lot of stuff to unload from your vehicle. Back up right to the door.
- Lief (8/5): - Easy to locate off of the freeway. Easy accessible rooms especially for handicapped. Good spot for traveling. Pet friendly hotel.
- RITA (10/5): - The bathroom had been updated. Easy check in and out. Friendly staff.
- John (8/5): - very quiet, dining options limited due to the smallness of the city
- Michael (10/5): - Big room, clean bathroom.
- Shoan (2/5): - It was freezing in the room and very run down we didn't stay and freeze ourselves
- Pam (6/5): - The front desk attendant was friendly and knowledgeable.
Bathroom was clean and updated.
The bed cover was stained. And the sofa chair had several stains - didn’t want to sit on it…ugh!!!
- Verified traveler (8/5): Old school motel - Nice, cheery old school motel for Rte 66 drive.
- Harold (6/5): - The furniture was very stained and dirty and the bed cover was stained.
- Virginia (2/5): - We were on a road trip & decided to stop for the night. We arrived around midnight, checked in & went to our room. There were dead flies in all over the bathroom floor but I attributed it the room had not been occupied in a while. I checked the bed, mattress & sheets & saw nothing so me & my kids went to bed. I woke up around 2:30 am, itching… it felt like something was crawling on me… at first glance, I saw nothing so I attempted to lay back down but the feeling continued.
I jumped up out of the bed , turned on the lights to find 2 bed bugs in the bed with me & my 4 year old. I lost it to say the least! I packed up me & my 2 kids & high tailed it outta there at 3am…
When I went back to the manager with pictures of the bugs… his response was… “I know”…. Thank god my husband wasn’t there… because the situation at that moment would have been terrible! Please don’t stay here!!!
- Kenneth (2/5): - I killed 3 different species of bug before going to sleep. I woke up at 3 am to find 2 live bed bugs in my sheets. I notified the front desk clerk who showed zero concern and offered no apology.
- Irene (8/5): Bring your own food! - Definitely a place for travelers looking to stay on route 66 and imagine what it was like in its heyday. It is clean and quiet. The exterior is run down. During my stay, there were no restaurants open for dinner. The only place to get food was a Punjab Indian market where you can order hot food for take out. A solo person cannot get a simple plate of food. You had to order full size containers which got to be expensive and too much food.
- Cortnee (2/5): - The owner yelled at me for turning in the air conditioner in the room. This is in Texas’s 100 degree heat, 5pm in the afternoon. They never even turned on the unit, now the fridge, and then yelled at me for doing so. She chased me across the parking lot screaming, to be exact. I’ll never stay here again. Worst trip!
- Nancie (10/5): - Room was clean and quiet.
- Keith (10/5): - I’ve stayed here several times, and every time it has been fantastic! Very reasonably priced, always clean, and the staff super friendly. Will definitely stay again!
- Robert (8/5): - Man at desk was wonderful. We called to advise late checkin abt 9pm. When we arrived was still 100 degrees outside. Was like 110 in room. With AC on hi we finally got to bed abt 1am as was TOO HOT to sleep. That is unacceptable knowing when we would get there. Will try again later but will call ahead to have turn on AC. If not, then would never go back. Location is great. Bed was comfortable in #105. Bath was clean. Takes along time to cool walls, bedding, furniture, etc
- Julia (6/5): - The clerk was nice. The room was clean. However the air conditioner didn’t work well. It was really hot. After talking a bath, the room was so hot I was covered in sweat. My bath did no good. It was miserably hot outside, but the room was not much cooler.
- Sheryl (10/5): A surprising little gem - This is one of those iconic little one-story motels from the Route 66 days. It looks a little bit scary from the road. However, everything was fine. Our bathroom had been completely updated and upgraded. Very nice. And the main room, while rather small, was furnished with suitable (if a bit worn) furniture, a refrigerator, a microwave, a flat-screen TV and a wall A/C unit. A common challenge in old motel rooms is a lack of adequate electrical outlets. We managed to charge all of our devices by unplugging the appliances, one at a time in rotation. Not terribly convenient, but it worked. We were quite comfortable here and would stay here again.
- Bruce (8/5): - Older facility but in a pleasant location . Clean, quiet, and safe.

- Dorothy (10/5): - Overnight stop on a long road trip. CLEAN. Quiet. Older building, sturdy and peaceful. Nicely updated bathrooms with window that opens (no exhaust fan), but the rest is a bit worn and tired looking.
Very accommodating... we got in just before dawn and they gave us a late check out of 3pm!
HIGHLY recommend if you just need a clean, quiet place to sleep and shower. Has a coffee maker, microwave, refrigerator, tv, alarm clock, AC, all working. Loved the smell of bleach in the sheets and towels. Can't beat the price.
