• Fabian (10/5): - Wunderbares Gasthaus in toller Lage in Hermanus. Wir wurden ganz toll vom Gastgeber empfangen und uns wurde alles ausführlich gezeigt. Die Anlage ist hübsch gestaltet, es gab ausreichend Parkmöglichkeiten und alles war sehr modern. Die Zimmer waren sauber, ebenfalls modern und gut ausgestattet. Die Betten waren sehr bequem und die Zimmer sehr geräumig. Das Frühstück war lecker und nett gestaltet. Die Gegend ist sicher. Der Küstenwanderweg ist in 2 Minuten zu Fuß zu erreichen. Die Restaurants und der Stadtkern in 15 Minuten. Man kann hier nachts zur Unterkunft zurücklaufen. Wir haben uns sehr wohlgefühlt und kommen gerne wieder.

Nikki gave some excellent recommendations while Stefan served up amazing breakfasts. A brilliant tag team! Room was also lovely. Thank you for a memorable short visit!

The location, the welcome, the room, the SUPERB breakfast, the local knowledge and advice, the electric bikes we hired. And in particular the way hosts Stefan and Nikki interacted with us and the other guests, somehow bringing us all together which enhanced the stay even more.We made some great contacts with people who had stayed at Penguino previously .... which speaks volumes in itself. Hermanus is a lovely, chilled-out place and when we go back we will be staying here again.

• stephen (10/5): - Absolutely lovely property in easy safe walking distance of Hermanus centre. Safe secure parking within locked boundary. The owner was really friendly and helpful, with lots of advice of things to do and places to eat and drink. Comfortable clean accommodation and with a nice little swimming pool, although we were too busy to use it! Absolutely first class breakfast. Would definitely recommend and use again.

• SYLVIE (10/5): Séjour aux petits soins - Notre 2ème séjour au Penguino, avec toujours autant de plaisir. Guesthouse super bien placée, proche du centre et du fameux Cliff path qui longe la mer. Jolie chambre (elles le sont toutes) avec tout le confort jusque dans les petits détails. Accueil familial de Nikki et Stephan qui font tout pour que l'on ait à se soucier de rien sauf à profiter de notre séjour. Stephan nous prépare des petits petits-déjeuners délicieux et différents chaque jour (pancakes, french toasts, omelettes...) et nous livre toutes ses bonnes adresses pour les excursions et restaurants. Difficile de quitter Hermanus et le Penguino, nous y reviendrons dès que nous le pourrons.

• Verified traveler (10/5): - The welcome from owners Ottie and Nikki was warm and full of offers to help and advise in any way. During our ten day stay, mainly to meet family nearby and deal with some issues following an untimely bereavement, our hosts were always kind and made us feel fully at home when we were at Penguino. Their staff were also warm and very efficient. And their dogs were lovely too!! Penguino is just off the amazing Hermanus cliff walk and is in easy walking distance of the town's plentiful shops and restaurants. It is a good base for both the town and the surrounding coast, beaches and nearby wine area.

• Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location, no sea views but a very short walk to the coastal path…fantastic views from this path and we saw a mother and baby whale just across the road from the guest house. It’s also an easy walk to town with plenty of restaurants. We stayed 2 nights in early October. Our room was at the back, upstairs and was huge and very comfortable. Steffan and Nikki were extremely helpful. The restaurant recommendations were perfect. They also rearranged a boat trip for us after one was cancelled due to the swell. They also rang ahead to our next activity to confirm times/location. The breakfasts were tremendous, we loved the porridge and the salmon omelette. There were 2 very friendly dogs which did try the swimming pool (we didn’t).

Lounge area very comfortable and our twin bed room was quite basic but large and clean. There is also a pool/outdoor lounge area, but a bit cool to swim in April. We only stayed one night, but would have enjoyed more had we had time.

On the positive the hosts were very helpful and breakfast was very nicely cooked/presented. Wifi was rather weak. Location is great and cliff path access is really good -- it takes 10 mn to get to the central square/access to different restaurants.

Booked us into a whale tour and wine bus at last minute. Excellent breakfast made by a pro chef and two lovely dogs! Very comfortable, would stay again.

• Freddie (10/5): Simply the Best - This is a beautiful house, the room was immaculate. The location is perfect, overlooking the bay. Our room was beside the pool, a very peaceful setting. They have two lovely little dogs who are a joy to watch. Unfortunately my wife had picked up a tummy bug but Nikki kindly gave her some medicine which aided her recovery. They are both great hosts who gave us useful advice for our travels. Breakfast, cooked by Stefan was perfect. If you're in this area, please don't miss the opportunity to stay here. Absolutely fabulous!
• Ian (10/5): Super Guest House close to Hermanus - Nikki and Stefan have 4 rooms, surrounding a pool , in a lovely property. They are very welcoming hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Our room was well equipped and very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent, with a wide choice on the cold buffet and a well cooked hot breakfast ( cooked by Stefan ). The Guest House is very close to the coastal path and a relatively short walk from the town centre.
• Mary (10/5): Quiet stay near town - The staff was friendly and helpful. We enjoyed a quiet few days, enjoying the shops, beach and the pool. The breakfasts were wonderful.
• Nicholas (10/5): Great place in Hermanus - Great place to stay. Hosts very welcoming,pleasant and helpful. Guest house situated in quiet area close to cliff walk into town, about 10 minutes away. We had a large comfortable room with glazed balcony. We look forward to our next stay.
• Kaitlin (10/5): Great stay! - We had a lovely stay at Penguins house! We were given a map of the area and multiple recommendations as to where to eat. The place was very clean. Breakfast in the morning was the highlight! Stef was a great cook and he and his wife were great hosts. My only regret was that we didn’t have enough time to stay another night. The location is about a 10 minutes stroll (along the water!) to the downtown area. A perfect night.
• Margo (10/5): DON'T CONSIDER STAYING ANYWHERE ELSE!! - Wonderful hospitality, great value and an amazing breakfast - these words sum up our stay at this immaculate guesthouse! The owners, Stefan and Nikki are welcoming, friendly and helpful. They and their two terriers, Pippa and Harvey made us feel quite at home. Immediately upon check-in, Stefan provided a map of Hermanus, gave recommendations for restaurants and pointed out what to see and do in the area. Access to the cliff path is just across the road for a lovely walk with beautiful views. We walked back from town in the dark, about 10 mins by road, and felt quite safe. Our ground floor room was spacious, tastefully decorated and well lit. It had a walk out to the pool and an outside seating area to enjoy your morning coffee or a drink. The bathroom was also large with a separate tub and shower. Stefan is a top chef and it shows, at breakfast a beautifully presented menu outlines the choices. In addition, there is a daily breakfast special. Everything is cooked to order and all preserves are home made. An absolute delight! We will be back!

• Marjory (10/5): Wonderful! - From the moment we arrived until the minute we left we had a really good time. Our room was very spacious, our bed really comfortable and the bathroom excellent too. Nikki and Stefan are great hosts and provided delicious breakfasts. Each morning there was a soecial breakfast dish in addition to a menu of great choices and a selection of cereal, fresh fruit, meats and cheese. A great choice!
• Mike (10/5): Right outside of whale trail - Nice hotel with excellent hosts and breakfast Whale watching trail in right outside and is walkable to town.

• Valerie (8/5): A pleasant guest house in Hermanus - We liked Hermanus there were lovely cliff walks and a couple of harbour areas within easy walking distance of the guest house also shops and good restaurants The room was very modern (not sure whether open plan bathrooms are really our thing ) but the attention to detail was excellent throughout Friendly hosts who were very informative about the local area and an excellent breakfast We would definitely stay here again
