Guest Reviews
- ujithh2017 (10/5): Best place to relax and enjoy - We had a very relaxing & enjoyable time at High Rich resort. The river view is stunning where all the water sports are happening. The rooms are very clean and nice & very friendly staff. The chef Ashoka served us delicious dinner & breakfast. The spa tub was a special feature of the hotel. Highly recommended for great hospitality.
- angioletta57 (8/5): Perfect location on the lagoon - We come to Bentota from Mirissa. at the beginning we were looking for a room at the beach but they’re all very expensive. we met someone suggesting to stay at the lagoon, in Aluthgama. he took us with a boat to see the rooms at High Rich Hotel, absolutely a nice choice. this hotel is right on the river, they gave us a beautiful room facing the lagoon. we stayed there 4 nights, so they reduced the price.
Comfortable bed, beautiful clean room and bathroom, fridge in the room, amazing terrace.
From the hotel we walked to Bentota beach, which is only 10-15 minutes walk, crossing over the bridge. also the ten us very near.
Great value for money. we certainly recommend this place to families and friends.
Very helpful friendly staff, they do their best to meet your needs.
we had most of our lunch and dinner there: if you speak to the owner he will go to the market and buy fresh fish 🐠 and cook delicious food for a reasonable price, they have a big variety of food, just tell them your wishes and you’ll be satisfied.
Thank you very much. we hope to come here again.
- 320barryr (10/5): Holiday - Our taxi drive who picked us up at the Airport recommended this place when I asked him if he knew a hotel in Bentota where we could stay when we visited. This is a very quiet little six or seven room hotel with very helpful friendly staff. They have a spa and the masseuse is also the waiter, and did a great job at both. We only booked it for 2 days but decided to stay an extra day. We had an awesome view with a huge deck overlooking the river. This hotel is not in Bentota but across the river in Aluthgama. Very reasonably priced, nice breakfast, we ate dinner here twice and walked one evening to Pier 88 which I would also recommend.
Great value for our money, we took a tuktuk to and from the beach because that is the beach that we wanted to go to. It was 200 rupees each way.
- NeneSandosha (8/5): Bentota - Perfect Location
Very nice staff :) they make me feel like home. Comfortable bed and really nice and clean room.
Very good dinner (sea food) and tasty breakfast. Amazing views.
Thank you very much. I’ll come back for sure
- sarahrT2397HP (6/5): Lovely View - Small guest house which has a lovely view of the river. There is a terrace you can sit out on which is facing the river with a couple of chairs on it but no shade so too hot for us to use in the day.We stayed in the deluxe double which is set back from the river with a small outside space facing the road (you couldn’t sit out on this). The room was spacious and clean but thought the bathroom is in need of an upgrade. The guest house doesn’t appear to have many of the facilities advertised any longer, we so no sign of the spa and although we had breakfast (fruit and omelette each day)the restaurant didn’t seem to open evenings . It is about a 15 minute walk to the beach or there were plenty of tuk tuks around . Several restaurants to choose from if you turn right out of the hotel all within a 5 to 10 minute walk. The owner was always on hand at the hotel if you needed help with anything.
- kht288 (6/5): Excellent ly located very poorly maintained hotel - This resort is located excellently at the edge of River as are many such resorts. Rooms are clean but regular maintenance is very poor. Even blankets were not made available. Bedsheets were not clean either.
- serukm (10/5): Excellent service - I had the best time spent in Sri Lanka in this hotel. Staff was kind and very helpful. Best food in town, clean rooms. Very satisfied with the service they provide us. We will definitely go there again
- Verified traveler (2/5): Sorry to say..........! - Firstly I have to say that I am totally unaccustomed to leaving negative reviews, but sadly I have to say "don't go" to this, no doubt once very classy, little boutique hotel.
Before going any further it is worth mentioning that the staff (we only saw 3!) were lovely, extremely well meaning, and obliging. (We're guessing/deducing, severely let down by an absentee owner).
Apart from the staff, the only other attribute was the superb position, overlooking and directly onto the river estuary. The dining area, seating area, and most of the rooms have this excellent view.
But! our room was terrible! The cane fronted wardrobe looked like it had been attacked by monkeys (it probably had!) The little fridge looked like it should be in a museum, was filthy and probably unsafe. The toilet/shower room looked like it was old in the 1980s! During our foreshortened stay there was no attempt at housekeeping. We also had a cockroach for company in the bathroom. Need I go further? We checked out a day early, losing a night's booking payment, but we really couldn't stay any longer.
Until there is confirmation that this, potentially beautiful, little place has had a serious upgrade, my/our advice would be to give it a miss.
- Anil (4/5): Call it a homestay - Good part: Well behaved people, river side scenic view
Not good part: it need to be named as homestay instead of resort as it lacks all basic amenities.
Forget about coffee maker in room and mini bar. It don't even have utmost basic infrastructure like intercom (because of which if you need even water you need to go), no TV, don't have a full fledged restaurant.
One more betrayal from mentioned conditions is you will get set breakfast instead of buffet (against to their mention on site)
- 998marvinh (2/5): Never again - Received by a staff member (one of the total of 2 staff) who was drunk and being sleazy. No CC machine. No WiFi. Place is pretty run down. sewer smell in the bathroom. Torn chairs in the room. I guess I can go on but am not staying more than the night to discover the rest of this miserable place.
- weddingi2017 (4/5): Rooms are ok. Service is terrible - We booked the place for a party for 14 people. We agreed for $30 for seafood plate per person. Few days before party they increased price up to $45!!! So we had no time to find another place. There was no lobster in seafood plate. People who ate chicken was charged the same $45. On our tables they put not ironed bed sheets coz they had no table cloth!
Waters could not speak English and was avoiding us as much as they only could.
Surprisingly food was tasty. But for such amount we could have lobster meals in 5* hotel.
- 294anushav (6/5): Basic but fairly comfortable - Room was fine but poor service and very slow. Many of the staff do not speak English. First night they hadn't provided water not a mosquito repellant so had a really bad night's sleep for which their response was simply - "when he wanted to bring the water I was asleep!!!" - why wasn't the water there when i checked in?!! Same with mosquito repellant - again it's only when I complained the next day, they brought it but lied in their response to my Expedia review saying it was already in the room but I did not switch it on!! I would not suggest females travelling alone staying here, male staff are very derogatory and disrespectful to females.
- Anusha (6/5): Basic but comfortable - Useful as base to travel to places from but nothing to do at the hotel itself. Typical Sri Lankan service is that you have to make sure you ask for things which are missing - in my case water & mosquito repellent for the room. Service can also be slow in the restaurant as they're not geared up for too many clients at once & get frazzled.
- CreatineBerlin (8/5): Everything fine! - Restaurant serves very good food, it tasted delicious! The manager Rohan knows how to handle the guests! He s a very polite person! We will come again and recommend this place!
For starting the trip on the island perfect, nice clean rooms and balcony to the lagoon!
- Debradavey (10/5): Excellent value for money - My husband and I spent 6 nights at this hotel and were made to feel extremely welcome by Rohan, hotel manager, and Chef.
The hotel has lovely views of the lagoon and is within walking distance of other bars and restaurants.
The room was clean and basic but represented good value for what we paid.
Breakfast was very good and food tea and coffee were plentiful.
Overall a very friendly clean and good value hotel run by very friendly staff.
- V K (6/5): Budget hotel with the feel of home stay - a homely little place on the banks of the river bentota. Hardly 1 km from althugama railway station and about 2 kms from Bentota beach. One can enjoy all the water sport activities just a few blocks away.
- Jennie and Reec (6/5): Beautiful location, friendly staff - We stayed one night at the benthota high rich resort. The staff were lovely and helped us organise a fishing trip within hours arriving. I had the best curry of my whole trip here also. The rooms are basic but clean and are what you'd expect for the money. I'd definitely come back!
- Agusta10 (8/5): Good Service, Not Disappointed. - We had a really good stay for 6 nights after the New Year, consequently it was very quiet in both the resort and hotel.
The staff at this hotel are a credit to them, in particular the Manager Rohan. Service was very attentive and the food excellent, nothing too much trouble.
The hotel is well located and with superb river front views.
It's not to the standard of the Centara opposite, but at a quarter of the price it represents very good value.
- nadund2017 (10/5): Excellent Service - I came from Dubai to spend five nights for a family vacation and It is situated in an attractive location. The best thing about the hotel was the sea food restaurant and the hospitality :)) Rooms were clean compare to the other hotels. Above and beyond 5 stars....
- Julienkostik (10/5): NIce restaurant and very good welcoming! - I have been in that restaurant 3 times so far. The food is really good and woth reasonable prices. The view from the restaurant is really nice, just in front of the lagoon, very quiet and beautiful. The manager is really helpfull and knows about well about what to do in Bentota. I would definitly recommend this place!
- dremolitor (10/5): Great place to grab a bite - We stayed across the river from this resort and happened to stop in for lunch on our last day. We are so happy we did. Both my friend and I are vegetarians and quickly noticed that there were not many options for us. Not to worry the manager Rohan hooked us up and we were not disappointed. The curry was amazing as was the stir fry. Although we did not stay there the hotel looked really nice and clean
- ajanthageeth (10/5): Excellent - I am from the US and when I went to this resort, I was speechless. I recommend this to anyone. There is a beautiful river side view. It's the best place in Sri Lanka to relax, I also had the best herbal spa relaxation. Everything is very clean and nice, Excellent hotel staff and the seafood is also the best I have had.
