- Michael (10/5): This immaculate hotel lets you love Maine - The room was tidy and overlooked the river. Falling asleep to the sound of water rushing over the old mill dam was very special. The restaurant below the hotel had the best coffee and espresso in Maine. No hyperbole. The best. We had a fabulous meal in the restaurant over the weekend. It is a “you get what is fresh and in season” menu with a few decisions for the guest to customize. People may unfairly consider this restrictive whereas we thought it highly pragmatic and forward thinking. If there’s only a few wines, it’s because they are good. If there’s only a few options on main courses, also good. The service and food was excellent overall. In terms of hotel experiences, we enjoyed the self service entry and checkout. No lines, final bills, awkward barriers in or out. There are a lot of hidden gems in Maine, and people ramble about culinary experiences that punch above their weight class. Our experience was a nuanced, sensory joy just being around salt of the earth locals and a weekend getaway that firmly cemented itself as just a time when everything felt right. We’ve done a lot of Michelin dining, and sometimes the se donner de grands airs (putting on airs) is cloistering and decimates mirth and the quiet smiles of a thing done consistently well because it’s the right way to live. This experience lets you love Maine.

- Gary (4/5): No staff available - Entrance very poorly marked. Luckily the front door was unlatched ( it was unable to latch & lock). No staff. Wandered around until we found what was supposed to be our room but have not combination to get in. Called the # we were given which went to voicemail with a full mailbox. Called the local police dispatch who was very helpful and knew someone who could contact the correct person to get the combination. Very poor system.

The check-in process is more like an airbnb, I got the lock codes via text 30 mins before check in time, which was a little nerve-wracking. It was a nice spot to relax for a night.

- Paula (4/5): - Check in process failed epically. Fortunately, a resident in an adjacent building was able to contact the owner and get access for us. We are so thankful that he approached us to help. No check-in email with access code was sent nor did the owner try contacting us after we made repeated attempts to contact for entry. Very disappointing with the process. Rooms are located over the cafe and all cafe noises vibrate through the warehouse rooms and is exceptionally loud when sleeping at 6am!
- CharlieOrlando (8/5): Lovely rooms, but no on-site service. - They have done a great job with converting this old mill into some new uses and the rooms are no exception. Our room was very spacious. The internet worked great and was much appreciated, as we'd been off the grid for the previous three nights. As you may notice from other reviews, there is a contactless check in system that is totally dependent on receiving the door codes via an email, right at check in time. Don't expect to check in early. We had a little confusion over whether or not our deposit was properly process, but were able to promptly resolve that with a quick email response to our inquiry. They patio outside the cafe is a lovely place to either have breakfast from the cafe or eat your take out from another restaurant.

- ute (8/5): Family visit. - The Mill is a very nice place to stay as the rooms are well kept and very spacious. It is a very good location for us. The only drawback is you have to go up several flight of stairs to get to the rooms and is a little hard for older people taking up their suitcases. Restaurant below has wonderful food.
- ErikA1438YB (10/5): Ambient cafe with good food. - We didnt stay over but ate lunch in the mill cafe. It has excellent views over the river and we found the service prompt and friendly. The atmosphere was relaxed and the food very good, in particular the soups and quesadillas. Perhaps other reviewers visited on a busy day, but we found it a great place for a light lunch.
- Susan (6/5): - Check in was person less. Was suppose to be given codes the day before. Then sent a second email saying it would be an hour before check in. Nothing. Had to hunt down phone numbers. One phone number referred to a second. Got a cool, dispassionate lady who made no apologies. Said she’d send a text to my phone and hung up!! Finally got in!! No overhead light in the bedroom and no light in the small hallway that housed the frig and microwave. Three out of the four window shades were broken. Two could not be raised and one didn’t have a shade. The windows were at least 6 feet high (former factory) and four feet wide so we woke at light of day, 6 am. The sheets had been washed with some scented chemical and my husband has sensitive skin and was irritated by them. The scent was also offensive. The bar stools were metal and very uncomfortable for older folks such as ourselves. Wouldn’t return here.

- Ca11ieKo (2/5): Long wait and cold food - They were busy. But that doesn't excuse a wait time of an hour from ordering to delivery to table. 3 toasted cheese sandwiches. When they eventually arrived, there was hardly any cheese in the sandwiches and they were all cold. After such a long wait we weren't prepared to complain and risk another hour long wait. The cafe has a nice ambience and decor but poor service and food.
- Lisa (4/5): - Room was cute. That is where the charm ended. The property provided no communication through out the experience. No confirmation of booking, no 24 hour prior to check-in, no return response to inquiry. When called one month prior to checking to make sure we were not being scammed, manager was rude. 1 hour prior to arrival still no communication. Another call in to make sure a room was secured, another rude interaction. An auto responder arrived at the moment of check-in giving a code. Perhaps a suggestion to program in at least some level of confirmation for peace of mind would be my recommendation. THEN once roomwas acquired, the next morning was very disruptive with a door to the cafe below being opened and slamming shut every few minutes as patrons came in for breakfast. A door closing device would gave easily prevented the continuous slamming.. I am usually pretty forgiving when traveling. My recommendation for this place however? Keep going down the road and give your dollars to a group that might care about your experience.
- david (2/5): - I would have likely given this property a five star rating across the board if not having been for two erroneous charges related to my stay. I paid in full via Expedia, but on my first day of check in, was billed for two erroneous charges by the Inn. I contacted the property staff that was cited on these communications, and that person stated that, despite the items being billed by The Mill Inn directly, and communicated to me via the Expedia communication portal with noting the innkeeper's name and contact phone number, the charges must have been done by someone unrelated to the property. I have since lodged a complaint with Expedia, and their attempts to contact The Mill Inn have not been returned. My credit card company confirms that the charges were indeed made by The Mill Inn, and they are reversing the charges. Very shady dealings indeed, so I would avoid this property altogether unless you want to risk the same issues. Otherwise, I would have praised the property.
- Caem76 (2/5): Like the place. Check in is not reliable. - I actually like this inn. The rooms are nicely decorated, have a microwave and mini refrigerator. They are very clean and bedding is comfortable. However, the check in process is awful. Both times I stayed, I never received an email nor did I get any check in email. The first stay, I was able to connect with a person by calling the number on the door. The second time, no email with codes. I sent several emails and left several messages asking to be given the codes. No one ever got back to me. Our business has a vendor book there and ended up having to travel 45 miles to Bangor for a hotel because he never got an email with his codes and no one was calling back. This is ridiculous. I will not be staying there again and we will be recommending different accommodations to any of our vendors.
- douglas (2/5): Greatly disappointed - When we arrived is was cold in the room, no heat. My husband put it on but when we returned from dinner, no heat. We texted the assistance number, no reply. Called the number for assistance, answering machine. The freezer in the frig was full of ice and frost. The gave one small bottle of combo shampoo/conditioner for two days and two people. The second day the two split units stopped working and flashed all night long. The small wall fan gave some heat in the room at least. This is a loft room with high ceilings and any heat was going up. Maybe they should put ceiling fans in or heaters that work. I think we deserve some kind of refund for this mess.
- Guide34648493939 (6/5): Beautiful rooms but VERY COLD in the winter - The Mill itself is fantastic--beautifully laid out, with interesting decor, and great views (in the corner room). However, we were pretty miserable comfort-wise because the geothermal heat pumps would not work and the room never got above 60 degrees. The Mill needs to consider a better heating option for the cold winter months because the heat pumps were not enough, and neither was the one electric wall unit, especially for rooms with such large ceilings. The cafe, where we had breakfast (in the same building), also suffered from poor heating. Please consider alternative heating options!! We won't be returning in the wintertime but will definitely consider summer time visits.
- LoriK2012 (10/5): Magnificent Mill transformation - As soon as you walk in the smell of a clean facility greets you. Our room was supplied with the most gorgeous, soft, plush blankets to wrap in after a chilly day soaking in Maine Winter. We made hot drinks (complimentary coffee and tea in our rooms) We had ordered a birthday cake through the cafe downstairs to be waiting to surprise one family member. Not only was it the most delicious chocolate cake to ever hit our tastebuds but the site of this masterfully prepared cake offered up just the birthday surprise we were hoping for. The exposed bricks, the beams, the view of the river and dam right outside our window, all are a beautiful nod to the days when the building was a woolen mill…all while soaking in the comforts of modern day. There is an amenity closet down the hall that you can access anytime so that you can get what you need, when you need it. In the morning, we simply walked downstairs to the Cafe to be served the most delicious meal. Prices are lower than the price points from our hometown area and much appreciated. Comfortable seating and plants throughout the Cafe are a welcome site especially in the depths of a long Winter. Wishing our hometown had something of this caliber.

- Anna (10/5): Luxury without the price tag. - What a charming place! After spending 2 consecutive nights in 2 different motel rooms (no hotels were available in the towns I was in) It was so refreshing to stay at The Mill Inn! It has a down home atmosphere, but with a luxurious feel. I felt like I was in a high-end hotel, but without the high-end cost! I wanted to experience the cafe downstairs, but I didn't have enough time. The town is small enough to feel like you're getting away from it all, but big enough to offer some of the amenities. It was awesome to look outside my window and see a perfectly quiet street at night that was otherwise bustling during the day. I will definitely be bringing my husband next time for an extended stay. Thanks, you guys! It was wonderful!
- Bonnie (4/5): - The room aesthetics were very simple and pleasing to the eye. The room is quite large within array of seating accommodations. Unfortunately, the California King bed was very uncomfortable I would strongly suggest more noise insulation. I could hear every word the next door, guess we’re saying saying late into the night and early the next morning. Also, some thing you may want to address the walk-in shower in room five does not drain properly. It leaked onto the bathroom floor and out through onto the carpet in the coffee area of the room. I know we aimed the shower nozzle in the right direction. Overall, the self check in concept works.

- Douglas (10/5): Awesome hotel, a great place to stay - My wife and I stayed here on our anniversary and really loved it. We live close by and wanted to check the place out. It is a very nice place, all self serve check in… a quick call got us in the building no problem. The cafe downstairs is also unreal, we are happy to have this place in our area!

- Gibson (10/5): - Beautiful room and location. Room was not the typical chain hotel, generic box. Very nicely decorated and very comfortable. It is a do it yourself checkin. No front desk or clerk to meet you. You will get a message with pass code for the main door and your room. Easy and no problem for us. Google maps took us right to the hotel. The entrance is a small drive next to the building, parking in back. Nice cafe downstairs but not open for dinner.
- Andrea (10/5): Quaint Hotel by the River - This is our second year staying at The Mill Inn. The owners are extremely nice and professional. The entire hotel is spotless! The rooms are on the second floor and the cutest cafe is on the bottom floor. Beauty all around this little town. Room 1 will get you a view of the river from 2 windows! If you need wheelchair or elevator access this is not the place for you. Stairs are the only option.

The rooms have been refurbished into little studio apartments, and everything you could possibly expect from an Inn is there, right down to toe corkscrew, just in case you may need one. They have thought of everything! Comforts galore! Luxurious bedding, continuous hot water for showering, adorable decor, and easy-in, easy-out. And the Mill Cafe downstairs is also amazing. Cozy spots with gorgeous plants growing everywhere, soft jazz music, delicious coffee and pastry, Bloody Mary's with Bacon, YUM, I can't say enough about this lovely spot. I wish there were a Mill Inn wherever I need to travel to. Honestly, you will not be disappointed!

- LordSheepscombe (10/5): Great Brunch, great welcome 👍 - We received a great welcome from host Brenda and really enjoyed the brunch offering with a slight Mexican twist whilst enjoying the views across the river at Dover Foxcroft. Brenda told us about her time in Californian which inspired her menu. Apparently, she has just returned from Italy and is also offering a range of interesting events including Olive Oil Tasting! It sound wonderful and I think that maybe we need to spend a little more time at The Mill Cafe. Thanks guys for a lovely brunch and a great welcome 👍
- No1Scribbler (10/5): Fantastic! - What a great food venue for Dover Foxcroft. We had a fantastic Sunday brunch with the best coffee I’ve had outside of Europe. Wonderful service in a very relaxed atmosphere where the customer truly does come first. I can’t recommend this place highly enough as it really does pull out all the stops to look after you!

Then within the week we were to arrive, an email from the owner saying we had been canceled and they were booked. (After we had canceled other plans for the same time) They stated we hadn’t paid our deposit. I looked on our statement and sent her the proof of payment. We were only 3-4 days from arrival. She stated she was waiting on the balance which was 1 more night. The site did not request this, nor did we get a prompt to pay in full in advance. When I looked back, it requested payment in full the day prior to arrival. We travel all the time and never encountered such a request. Ask for payment in full at booking or send a bill when due. Either works, but this? I paid in full, then prayed we could get in when we arrived. 2- upon arrival, Instructions for entry (with no one who responds in a timely manner) was incomplete at 9 pm with no answer to call for help. At least a room was reserved. We figured out the code- but the fact that we dealt with this or we had incomplete instructions were never addressed. 3- there was a crappy coffee maker inside with 2 paper cups and 2 servings of coffee waiting. We used those the first morning since we had to be out at 6.30 am. We thought they would replace the service with maid service- yes, they come in daily- but no such luck. When we arrived back to a freshly made bed and tidied bath, we thought coffee would be there too for the next morning. ( their cafe didn’t open til 8 on Sunday) I texted at 4 pm to request cups and coffee. No reply. At 7 pm I resent the text. The response follows: there was none in your room when you checked in? If that is the case, we will be open at the café first thing in the morning and I will comp you a specialty coffee. 4- a blind was broken and unable to open. Some issues very minor, but it created totally unnecessary stress. Would not recommend staying personally. Guess it depends on the kind of stay you want.
- BobfinNH (10/5): Wonderful place in a beautiful town. - We were so pleased to find The Mill Inn on Tripadvisor. It had been many years since our last visit to Dover-Foxcroft, which was the town we resided in when we were married. The location along the river, and the character of the rooms makes this place a destination. The fact that you're close to Sebec Lake, Moosehead Lake and Mt. Katahdin is an added bonus. A special note about the proprietors who were so wonderful to speak to about the history of the building and the town. We also enjoyed a wonderful breakfast the next morning in the Mill Cafe. If you are looking for a wonderful escape in Maine I highly recommend you spend a night or two at The Mill Inn in Dover-Foxcroft.
- MzFrizzleMom (10/5): Great Stay with Our Toddler! - The Mill Inn was our toddler's first hotel experience -- it was a great success! The self check-in process went smoothly and the manager was easy to reach with questions prior to our arrival. After reading other reviews, I had brought a cooler to keep milk chilled, but our room (#3) actually had both a fridge and a microwave. The room was wonderful -- both clean and inviting. The only thing that could have been improved were the ACs, which kept turning off after a few hours, but the housekeeping staff checked in and was aware of the problem, so I trust it will be fixed soon. There was also audible outdoor music playing in the cafe, but it wrapped up at 8:00 PM, which seemed reasonable and didn't impact us getting to sleep. This Inn is a great spot in the area -- the cafe on the first floor was also lovely.
- V4724SNdavids (10/5): Hidden Gem - We ate in the Cafe which is separate from the Inn (Brenda the owner) was very friendly and accommodating . The menu both breakfast and lunch was varied and delicious . As it is a food dessert in the area we were very pleased to find this gem.
- JamieS987 (10/5): Modern history all in one... - "The Mill" is a renovated mill overlooking the river. It is modern and has all the luxuries you could want, while at the same time maintaining the historic beauty of the old mill. The brick and raw wood combined with the lovely textures of linens and stone in the bath were just phenomenal. It is warm and inviting, quiet and peaceful. The price is far less than I would expect for a place of this quality. Top notch amenities. The check in process was smooth and simple (there is no full time staff this time of year, so guests must enter via door code, etc). I highly recommend!
- Wengeners (8/5): A nice change - This is a really nice change from the cheap hotels in the area, and there is nothing else like it for many miles. There is exposed brick in the rooms, which are large and decorated in a modern industrial style. The linens are Target quality. Our room overlooked the river and dam, which is beautiful. The cafe is nice but does not have many choices for breakfast. The coffee is good but the oatmeal is instant. Be cautious of staying on a night when there is a concert in the cafe, as it is very loud upstairs. We couldn't hear ourselves talk. Would highly recommend on other nights.
- christinadH1596VK (10/5): Great Inn! - The Mill Inn is great!! It's very stylish and modern and it has air conditioning! We enjoyed the complimentary snacks and in room coffee. I would have loved an in room refrigerator because we have a 16 month old (to keep whole milk cold), but we managed with a cooler. The check in and check out was very easy and I really liked that the cafe was right below for breakfast and lunch if we needed it. It's close to Sebec Lake and Peaks-Kenny State Park - so many fun activities right around the corner!

Great fresh ingredients. Had nice leisurely lunch. Very clean and waitstaff was friendly and efficient. Will go again!
- PeterTGardenCity_NY (10/5): Great Lunch Post Industrial Vibe - Kathryn and I had a great lunch in a friendly cafe with a post industrial vibe. We tried the Mill Cafe when we went to Dover Foxcroft to buy a chainsaw! The cafe is true to it's name in an old Mill building. The cafe itself is large and sunlit with high ceilings and big windows overlooking the river and the mill dam. The service was friendly and the food was delicious. I had the Mill Cuban pannini - the pork was tender. Pork may be a specialty because the special was pulled pork tacos. Kathryn had the cranberry walnut chicken salad wrap. We both had clam chowder. All in all it was a especially pleasant and delicious lunch. There is a deck for outdoor dining and they serve wine and beer.
- MadMaxyCatsMom (10/5): Great lunch! - My mom and I had lunch today after picking up our Christmas tree from the finest kind down the road. We had the soup of the day and a sandwich. It was delicious and a little different than most of the food we see in Maine! I will definitely be going back!
- GJKemp (10/5): Lunch - First time here. Newer restaurant and inn upstairs. Great sandwiches and super coffee. Had a blt panini sandwich- super! Sat outside overlooking the river- nice view of the falls. Real friendly staff and food was hot and ready quickly. Excellent taste!
- carolv980 (8/5): Great Little Cafe - My husband and I were in the Dover-Foxcroft area and discovered this great little cafe at the Mill Inn. The cafe is a wonderful lunch spot with modern light selections. The renovated mill area overlooks the Piscataquis River. We enjoyed the cranberry chicken salad and the chicken tomato pesto flatbread. Also there are tasty coffee drinks. We could only wish that the cafe had evening hours. We would definitely return.
