- Patti (10/5): - Perfect retreat for my celebration of life trip to NOLA! The Bunk House room is a gem with its unique, solid bunk bed and dreamy wall art creating a magical ambiance. Though not large, the room is thoughtfully organized, feeling spacious and functional. The powerful AC and fan were lifesavers in the heat, and the shower's water pressure was incredible after city explorations. Loved the practical touches - great coffee maker, mini-fridge and microwave for storing late-night po' boys from NOLA Poboys on Bourbon Street. The location is unbeatable - steps from Golden Lantern, minutes from major attractions, yet surprisingly peaceful day and night. I was just 6 minutes from Lafitte's where my friend's second line began, and could easily stroll to Jackson Square and Frenchman Street. The charming courtyard with magnolia trees offered a tranquil space between adventures. Hosts were attentive without being intrusive, and their comprehensive guest book provided excellent local recommendations. Royal Barracks gave me an authentic neighborhood feel with tourist-free access to popular spots. It connected me with my late friend's spirit of adventure in ways a standard hotel couldn't. Whether solo or with a companion, the Bunk House offers a peaceful, convenient, uniquely New Orleans experience. Already planning my return!

- Macy (6/5): - The location and privacy of the guest house is fantastic! It has quintessential old New Orleans charm. The bed was clean and comfortable, and the shower hot. AC cold. A dehumidifier in the room helped keep it even more temperate. That said, the property is in dire need of some love and upkeep. The courtyard is lovely, but needs cleanup and mosquito treatment. Wi-Fi was impossibly slow at times. A curtain rod in my room kept falling down. Lots of dust bunnies. It met my needs, but I probably wouldn’t stay here again.

Since the room is connected to the neighboring room by a door, we could hear the neighbors quite a bit. I loved the patio, and the beds were very comfortable.

Across the street from the rich pageant and deep community of the Golden Lantern and two blocks from the best burger in town at the Port of Call, stay at the Royal Barracks if you're into the eccentricity and creativity of NOLA.

I say that as seasoned traveler who never complains Unable to get into the room after 10 hours travel and no one around in the night. Fortunately I could check into another nearby hotel, with a real front desk.

I am a petite female and had trouble fitting in the extremely tight space. The room holds 2 people max. As long as you know ahead of time of the space, it is located in a fabulous part of the French Quarter and super close to the Marigny.

- Chris (10/5): Affordable in the French Quarter - Perfect place to stay in the French Quarter. Close to everything. (Bourbon St bar area and French market a 10 minute walk) Affordable. Easiest check in and check out ever. Code given to you over email. Garden Room was appropriate for French Quarter. Lots of charm. Room is small, but we spent no time in it anyway. Mattress probably needs an upgrade. Walls are thin. Didn’t bother us because we have teens/early 20 kids so we can fall asleep anywhere. Neighborhood is safe. They can accommodate big groups with connecting rooms, but I found it perfect for couples looking to experience the French Quarter without a car for a few days.

There’s a beautiful little courtyard attached and the vibe was very laid back and chill. We had to enter through a locked gate to get to our room, which also had a keypad lock and we felt safe our whole stay. My wife and I are already talking about booking again and making another trip. We had a great honeymoon!

The area is quiet and close to most things you may want to do. Only con is the walls are thin so, you will hear your neighbor. Parking is hit or miss. So, we just left ours on a paid lot.

Never met any staff but very good communication by email. They were very happy to help with my few requests. Rooms are small but absolutely don't need any more for 2 people and a short stay.

Keep in mind the age of the building and the small size of the rooms, but don't let that scare you away if you're looking for an immersive experience. Don't bother renting a car, just uber to and from the airport. You wont need it. You may want to stop at a grocery store for a few items to stock your mini fridge as the nearby grocers are small.

- Jennifer (10/5): - We were only in town for a couple of days and this quaint little guesthouse was not only a quiet, secure space for us to stay but also a convenient walk away from Bourbon Street, the French Market, and Frenchmen Street! Even though there is no staff onsite, they are very communicative, helpful, and friendly. The room was quite small but perfect for us! We will definitely stay here again on our next trip back!

- Caylin (10/5): - Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans? I sure do! This was our 2nd time at the Barracks and even being under new management, it was still a dream! Easy, no contact check in and out, clear instructions, and plenty of info. on who to call if there is a late night issue. The property itself is stunning.The courtyard possesses a magic about it, that is only emphasized by the twinkling lights, cobble stone path, and soft blues music playing throughout the evening. Inevitably, chance encounters you meet will become chosen and cherished family from all walks of life as you wonder if this was predestined? We stayed in the Garden Room this time, which was a slight upgrade from the Blues Room in size, but no less accomodating! Soft bed, clean linens, and a lovely renovated bath. We visited in August so the AC units in each room and the double freezers producing ice in the courtyard were a life saver! All of the rooms are decorated beautifully, but the photos in the Garden Room are beyond captivating! Overall, our 2nd stay topped the first! The only issue I would remedy is an upgrade to the music system in the courtyard. The music adds to the ambiance, but the CD player is not long for this world.
- Antonio (10/5): Convenient spot, would stay again! - Simple clean cozy space in a prime location. Edge of the Quarter so none of the noise, just the other side of Esplanade from the Marigny, so a very walkable location. Bed was comfortable and the air conditioning worked like a charm!

- Tim (10/5): - Quiet little house with individual rooms to rent. It worked well for us just needing a place to sleep and shower. Room was well air conditioned. Bed was too soft. And head of the bed was lower than the foot. Im assuming this has to do with the foundation sinking, but could and should be corrected. Room and bathroom were clean when we arrived to check in. Close to pretty much everything and easy to walk to and from to enjoy the city.
- Johari (2/5): - I booked the Jazz room for Essence weekend. When I entered the room there were a few flies but it was not a big deal. The problem started when I opened the shower and a huge cockroach was on the floor. I took a picture of it and flushed it. While I was sleeping ants were crawling on me. I reached out to management saying that I didn’t feel comfortable staying there because of the bugs. They told me that the room was cleaned before I got there. I emailed the pictures of the bugs I had taken and their only solution was to send a maintenance worker to spray bug spray. They didn’t even offer a different room. I then decided to leave and stay somewhere else. They have refused to refund me anything although I only stayed one night with unwanted guests. I only wanted a partial refund and was told that they couldn’t because of the hurricane & because they have a cleaning crew. I sent all my pictures to management and they were no help.

The only thing I thought would be nice is a change of sheets after two days - just saying. They extended our check out time due to a late flight home and allowed us to store our heavy luggage in the outside patio under umbrella.

- Laura (10/5): - This quintessential New Orleans historical property was fabulous. It was close enough to all the night action on Bourbon street but just far enough away to be quiet. We always felt safe. There were four of us and we stayed in the Suite, it had everything we all needed. We didn’t spend a lot of time in the room, other than sleeping but it was easy for us to all shower and get ready together. Highly recommend-I would definitely stay here again.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good access to the French Quarter, but... - New Orleans has a lot of older housing and converted housing, and this was apparently an old house on the edge of the French Quarter that was converted. The small room in a divided-up building and confined building lot space are consistent with this heritage. It is within walking distance to many French Quarter areas, businesses, and restaurants. The small room, small bathroom, and limited amenities are not for everyone. Our room had a queen bed with a foam mattress cover, but the mattress sagged into the middle. The motel-style heat pump HVAC unit was noisy, as was the dehumidifier, so all outside and other-room noise was masked. The dehumidifier does not have an attached drain, so it must be drained daily. The people responding to our needs were friendly and helpful, but there is no on-site staff for immediate and in-person advice or assistance. There is no parking on the street except for N.O. residents, so you have to find a place with no restriction or use one of the pay lots. All in all, it was expensive for what it was, but we had a good New Orleans visit, and used their recommendation for Verti Marte for food, which was very good for the price vs. most restaurants, but still fairly costly. It IS New Orleans, so, like many major cities, plan to spend more than anything is really worth, no matter what it is. Bottom line: been there, done that, so we have no need to return.

- Airyn Viray (10/5): - We loved our 3 night stay. The room was clean and cozy. The outdoor seating area was relaxing and a nice place to eat take out from a near by deli. Everything is in walking distance and felt safe. I would have liked more towels in Linen closet but our stay was great. I will definitely be back.
- Cathy (6/5): - The place is in a great spot, very walkable, lots to do. The room we stayed in was ok, called The Suite, had lots of amazing furniture and kept with the decor. Our biggest issue was the floor, it was filthy, could not walk on it without shoes on, your socks and feet would be dirty, not clean at all. I believe I was bit by some sort or maybe, spider, 4 large bites on my hand and very itchy. The company running the rooms, had me wondering, half way through, said I had not paid for our stay, when I did through the Expedia app, and once I sent in my receipt, I got no response, just had us both wondering. Not sure I would stay again….unfortunately
