Guest Reviews
- Jenifer (9/5): We enjoyed the weekend - Easy access. We wood for a wedding and location was great on and out It was great.
- Angela (6/5): it was okay - staff did not point out the VERY important fact that you could not use the elevator without your room key. my kids and i thought the elevator wasn't working. Then, i went upstairs to the restaurant to get food and didn't bring a key because my kids were in the room. i couldn't use the elevator and i got locked out of the hallway to the stairs. it's a good thing i brought my phone so i could call one of my kids to rescue me!!!!! Another guest in the elevator informed my daughter that we needed the key to operate it. that is a pretty important piece of information to share with a guest that is paying 250 a night and traveling with kids. what if i had sent a kid down to the lobby without a key? they could of ridden down with a guest with a key, then got stranded without a way to get back up!!!!
- Jolene (6/5): Good location. - Location was great I expected a better room for paying over $200. Marks on the walls, doors missing pieces in the hallway from being kicked, bathroom faucet was loose, shower door was noisy and wouldn’t close all the way and there was something yellow on the ceiling above the bed. The bed was also really firm and wasn’t comfortable and one of the lights on the under desk kept flickering. Plus I had to pay over $30 for parking at their facility and breakfast wasn’t included.

- Kelly (10/5): Good experience and would stay again! - Lovely hotel for a getaway weekend for New Year’s Eve!!! Restaurant music very loud, more like a club atmosphere when good food was served and would have been enjoyed more with a relaxing vibe.

- David (10/5): - Great, secure place in a cool part of town.
- Dawn (9/5): -
- Rhonda (10/5): - Very nice hotel, very friendly and helpful staff.
- Robert (9/5): -
- Ana Belén (9/5): -

- Edlisa (10/5): - The hotel is GORGEOUS!! The front desk staff was really nice. We will definitely stay again!
- Sarah (9/5): Clean but expensive - Very clean, comfy beds Parking was difficult, pretty pricey, no breakfast unless you paid $14 per person.
- Kendra (8/5): Very good - There was plenty of space in the room for luggage and the friends I had over. The shower has 2 shower options, and both had great water pressure! Shampoo and conditioner provided was bigger bottles, not the 2 tbsp worth like usual, and gave my hair VOLUME and felt clean! Bed was SO cozy! Had me, literally, giggling and kicking my feet to cozy into at the end of the night! The most perfect location right downtown, bars right around the corner! Will definitely be saving to stay at again! Lighting was a little confusing to figure out. Lots of light switches that didnt seen to do anything.
- Shealynn (10/5): Absolutely amazing! - We loved the location and the friendliness of the staff When we checked in they gave us a room number when we went to this room and opened the door unexpectedly there was another family in there. Would definitely make sure everyone is double checking the rooms before placing others in them to be sure this doesn’t happen as it’s awkward for both parties it happens to.
- Dori (10/5): - Lots of fun things to do around this hotel. Great shopping and food. Modern clean interior.
- Kimlayn (10/5): - Clean room and nice staff.
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jon (6/5): Ok - Overnight for a wedding party room was nice everything on the property is pretty much new the parking garage was small and tight and extra $30 a day not impressed with that check in went well but you must have a room key to access parking garage and limited parking to do so was a pain. You must have a room key to get the elevator to move probably good for security but a bit of a pain otherwise room was nice comfortable bed good tv nice bathroom and shower there is a nice bar / restaurant on the property and the surrounding area is interesting
- Anthony (8/5): - Nice place
- Cassi (10/5): - We had an excellent experience here
- Robert (8/5): Very good - Breakfast buffet was canceled without notice due to low occupancy.
- Colin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Henry (9/5): Great staff!!! - Very nice facility, clean and comfortable

- Christopher (10/5): - Cuz
- Kolby (10/5): - I love this property & we stay there every year when spending a weekend in Des Moines! Hotel room had a few issues, but nothing major. Will visit again next year!
- Marcus (10/5): Nice night in the East Village!! - I visit this hotel rooftop each time I’m in DSM, decided to participate in a surprise 40th birthday party, so finally decided to stay here. It was wonderful!
- 954bnot (10/5): All Taken Care Of - A quick one night business trip but pleased with AC Hotels again. Staff is super nice. Room was just what I needed. Great location. Had everything I needed. AC Hotels all look so similar and have yet to have a disappointing stay. As a Marriott frequent flyer, I like AC Hotels as a good go to when I do not know the town as well.
- Shannon (10/5): - We loved it
- Hayley (9/5): Superb -
- Allen (10/5): - Was a very nice set up for us.
- Elena (10/5): Best hotel we have ever stayed at! - This was the best hotel we have ever stayed at! From the cleanliness of the room, to the extra surface space everywhere, the hard floors (no carpet, yay!), the top of the line shower, etc., this was such a great experience! We will plan to stay back here when we are back in this city! Not to mention, the hotel has a wonderful restaurant in one of the top floors!
- Patrick (10/5): Great Hotel - Quick trip in DSM lovely hotel great location.
- Steven (10/5): - Good location
- Steven (10/5): - Beautiful hotel with a roof top bar! Enjoyed our stay!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location. Better than downtown. And the hotel is newer and has a popular rooftop bar.
- Julene (10/5): Would definitely recommend and visit your awesome hotel again. - We enjoyed the upper level bar. The waitress was exceptional, timely and very organized. We loved our specialty drink and Goat cheese app,
The front desk attendant was friendly and welcoming. The room was exceptionally clean and comfortable and beautiful. We loved it.
The location was over the top! We were able to see everything the East Village has to offer. We even walked to the state Capitol.
Thank you!! Parking was 1 block away. Not a big deal, price was less and we enjoyed the little walk.
- Chad (10/5): Exceptional -
- Will (9/5): Superb - Awesome view! Comfortable bed! But didn’t get the pull out sofa Didn’t get the pull out
- Verano (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sarah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alfredo (10/5): - Great and convenient location.
- SHAWNA (10/5): - At check in we were greated and she was super friendly! We were there for the state fair and tbey even offered us a dhuttle there and back!! Huge bonus. They shuttle up to 6 miles. Super convenient since most do not offer anymore!
- Valerie (10/5): - Nice
- Brenda (10/5): Friendly, convenient, and accommodating. - It was conveniently located in East Village, walking distance to the capital and many local restaurants and bars. Every staff we encountered were very friendly. We really enjoyed the Republic restaurant and bar on the sixth floor. Good food, and great variety of drinks. Even got a glimpse of fireworks in the background. They also had shuttle to the state fair, which is what brought us to Des Moines. The lavender sachets offered in the lobby were a nice extra touch. First class.
- Runspingirl (8/5): Don't stay on Grand Avenue side or north East corner. Otherwise great and convenient hotel - Chose this hotel due to convenient location to State Capitol and activities. Read reviews that said it was quiet but that depends on the room you get. We were in a 'special' corner (larger, tall windows and great view of capitol) on the Northeast corner off of Grand Avenue. Unfortunately, the traffic was LOUD for a Sunday night with people drag racing up and down Grand Avenue. AND, there is a restaurant/bar next door (COA) that was playing very loud music/bass. At 11:30pm it was still going and we called the front desk. Apparently they keep the music going until 2am and sometimes later, even though the noise ordinance is much earlier. The front desk staff seemed frustrated by this as well so we weren't the first to complain and they've asked them to stop the music and they refuse. Luckily, the awesome guy working the front desk was able to move us to a smaller but MUCH quieter southwest room that was higher up and the difference was shocking. So if you want to sleep, do not choose a room on the road/east side near the COA bar. Also, underground parking is $30/day, but there is a parking garage across the street that was only $10/day and still convenient. The onsite breakfast was ok, but at $14/person, we only ate there once. This all aside, the staff was AMAZING and accommodated our request for an late checkout, very friendly and the rooms were clean and comfortable. The onsite restaurant/bar The Republic had great drinks, a nice relaxing atmosphere and very good food. The hotel was walkable to many spots we wanted to visit and the river front was fun to explore. We walked to the Iowa Taproom, RoCa, State Capitol ad there is great coffee just around the corner. Being from Des Moines, it was nice to get to know a different part of the city.
- Kevin (8/5): Nickel and Dime You Hotel - Newer hotel, clean. Very minimalist, not even a complimentary bottle of water in the room. $14 for a piece of toast for some breakfast though.
- Bobbi (9/5): Great place would stay again! - Very clean Parking was confusing
- Chad (8/5): Nice hotel. - Checked in and paid for the garage parking under the hotel. Gave me a ticket and told me where to go. Went down there and there was nothing available and had to drive to the parking garage. They need to keep track of how many spots they have and gave out and save sometime for there guests. Also we had a room by the road so that was a little bit noisy. Otherwise room was great and clean and i would come back.
- P4352HRkimberlyc (10/5): Great Stay - Spacious and Clean - I recently stayed at this hotel and rarely write reviews but feel it worth my time to give back for a great stay. My time there was for business travel as the company I work for had a meeting there. I’m the meeting planner and interact with hotel staff at different hotels each year. The hotel was clean and felt upscale from the moment walking in. The room I stayed in was spacious compared to other hotels I’ve stayed in, the bed was comfortable, and I loved the LVP flooring rather than carpet. One of the meeting spaces was utilized for a board meeting and that was very spacious. Even though we didn’t use the AV equipment, it was available if needed without an additional charge. Coffee was in the meeting space without an additional charge. Coffee is also provided in the lobby area for guests complimentary. The staff were amazing and attentive. We had a private event in one of the rooms at The Republic on Grand (6th floor of hotel) and the food there was superb. That space is a wonderful addition to the hotel when planning a function with a meal or not. They also provide a shuttle for guests, and we were able to utilize that to help transport attendees to places close by. When leaving on the final day, I thought back of any negative thing I felt while there and couldn’t think of a thing. All comments from the attendees were positive as well. If ever in the area again, this will be my place to stay.
- Shelynn (10/5): - I was on the 5th floor and although they are doing construction across the way… it’s going to be a beautiful view of downtown Des Moines!!!
Loved it!!
- Jonathan (8/5): - Loved the hotel. Only complaint was that they said that there was a breakfast but when I went down, there was none.
- Yesenia Ruby (10/5): - Absolutely loved staying at AC
- Danielle Santos (10/5): - Amazing location, full of restaurants for all ages. Rooms are cleaned and comfortable, beautiful decor.
Breakfast could be better
- Samantha (6/5): This hotel is clean, safe, and provided a pleasant stay, but prepare for parking and check receipts! - The rooms were very clean and the area where we stayed was close to plenty of food and shopping options. The staff was helpful and accommodating. Parking is $30 a day if you choose to park on site, which is pretty expensive especially considering that the parking options surrounding the hotel are minimal. We were also given a $250 “miscellaneous charge” at check-out that none of the staff that I have called since can explain and that management still hasn’t reached out to clarify.
- Jacques (9/5): Superb -
- Carol (10/5): - Very nice location. Nearby shopping and dining. It is very clean and well-maintained. Garage parking is a plus.
- Karina (8/5): Very good -
- Darlene (10/5): - The staff was professional, courteous, helpful, full of conversations, and smiles - front desk, shuttle service, etc. I also love the Hotel, its restaurant, and its roof bar.
- Ben (6/5): - need thicker walls.. too much sound
- Crystal (10/5): - Very clean. Property on edge of ongoing Pride festival but staff seemed surprised when I said I was there for Pride festival. That was the only negative.
- 859margueritea (8/5): In town for family event - Room was clean and comfortable.
Hotel staff was friendly and very responsive to our needs. Especially Sheila from the front desk. She was quick to send the right person to our room for shower faucet repair.
There are 2 private business center rooms. Really great to see this.
- Steve (10/5): - Fantastic property in a great area! The Republic On Grand is a great bar/restaurant on the roof and there is an excellent breakfast available in the beautiful lobby Tuesday through Saturday. Would definitely stay here again.
- T4231HGtimothyw (10/5): Large Wedding Party - We had a big block of rooms for my brothers wedding last week. We could not be happier with our stay and superb customer service from ALL of the hotel staff. A special thank you to the night watch Loretta for being so friendly with everyone in our group. I can not say enough good things about this hotel and it’s staff.
- James (6/5): - Upon arrival, parking in site was full. We had to park in a parking garage and walk to the hotel. The room was fairly quiet except in the mornings. The cleaning crew spoke loudly in the hallways which woke us up. The hotel was within walking distance to the capital and several restaurants.
- Brett (10/5): - Clean, quiet and very up to date rooms. Will do it again.
- Alan (10/5): Feels like home - I always love my stays at the AC Hotel Des Moines. The staff are always friendly. I got to meet the new front desk host Heather, who was great. Tim, the shuttle driver, is always so good and so accommodating, and always asks how my mom is doing. And it was good to see Quincy again, also on shuttle duty, and Sheila at the front desk.
I didn’t get a chance to see Nicholas and Peyton this trip, which is a shame b/c they always make me feel welcome and I’ve known Nicholas for probably six years.
But best of all is the bar genius Trent, up at the Republic Bar on the 6th floor. I walk in after a two-month absence, and Trent smiles and says “Welcome back, an Albariño for you?” This guy knows where I live, why I’m in Des Moines, what I like to do on vacation. He knows the things we have in common and tells me stories he knows I’ll find interesting. He’s a wizard and (other than visiting Mom) the best reason to come to Des Moines.
Can you tell the AC Hotel staff feel like family?
- Oehler (8/5): Very good - Great location, fun area.
- S2185552021 (4/5): Didn't meet expecations - The lobby was beautiful and the location was perfect, but the condition of the room was poor. I had much higher expectations for this hotel and was disappointed. The wallpaper was coming off the wall, missing baseboard in the bathroom, and other issues with cleanliness. Way overpriced for the product received.
- sandrasO6058UZ (10/5): Great stay - Had a wonderful stay. Staff was very friendly. Special thanks to Sheila! She was so wonderful, helpful and friendly. She went out of her way to provide us with excellent customer service. She was professional, yet personal and friendly. I really cannot say enough good things about her as the face of the hotel. She made us feel extremely welcomed. She has ensured that I will be a return guest. Thanks again Sheila for the great stay.
- Gail (10/5): We were bumped to a different room since we booked throa 3rd party. Because of this we were offered a discount and free - Very friendly staff, clean and comfortable hotel Nothing
- Osborn (10/5): Exceptional - Paying for parking.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Clean room close to Wells Fargo Arena.
- Daniel (9/5): Ok - Quiet N/A
- Damir (10/5): - I loved it
- Sarah (2/5): Awful stay. - -broken mini light (right side closest to window)
-broken toilet paper holder (and toilet paper just sitting on back of toilet)
-greasy marks on bathroom wall
-no side chair in room 410, just a random end table by the lamp, but our other rented room 417 had a chair with the end table and lamp
-originally given a room (419) with someone already occupied in it —keys didn’t work and had a do not disturb sign hanging from the door.
-was told parking labeled guest parking only was only for employees (never been to a place where employees get better parking than paying guests)
-was told there was conjoining rooms when I called a month prior to reserve (and webpage lists conjoining rooms) and asked for that or side by side rooms—given rooms on 2 different floors (419 and 519) Lady said she didn’t know what we were talking about but Franco said he could see in the “special requests” section that we did request conjoining rooms next to each other.
-was told she couldn’t help us because she got off work at 3 and it was past 3 and “someone lied to you” any time I mentioned things that were promised to us
-couldn’t find different rooms for us bc hotel was full (despite check in being at 3 and we arrived right at 3) and wasn’t able to move rooms around bc hotel already full (we know at exactly 3 everyone hasn’t checked in yet and we really know that wasn’t true because Franco was able to move rooms around for us)
-out of characters but so much more wrong. Will be calling.
