Guest Reviews
- Cheryl (6/5): - Nice quite location, rooms spacious but very dated.
- Ivano (10/5): - Great location. Staff super friendly and helpful
- Matthew (6/5): - Very.nice staff, wifi signal didn't reach beds in room
- Christian (8/5): - Gute Lage am See, ruhig, große Zimmer
- Parag (6/5): - Decent place but not very modern. Excellent views of Mount Fuji.
- Nova (4/5): - Musty
- janelle (4/5): - The bathroom has a different smell. The tatami room was huge but the bedding and especially the pillow have stain and not enough sheet to cover them. The 2 beds were actually like a single bed so if you have a child sleeping with you it will not be enough space. The cooling AC is not strong enough to handle the big room. The breakfast is affordable for a set meal but it is just an egg, sausage, salad and a croissant with a choice of juice or coffee. The room has a nice view of Mt Fuji.
- Crystal (10/5): - Amazing location right on the front of Lake Kawaguchi. Our room had an amazing view of the lake and was walking distance to dining options, transportation, and convenience stores. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. The hotel was a little older than other hotels I’ve stayed at during my stay in Japan but it was still clean. The rooms were spacious and even included a living area! Great for large groups traveling. Overall I highly recommend and most definitely will stay here again!
- Bradley (10/5): - Clean with everything promised
- Jordan (10/5): - Location is perfect. Walking distance to everything but away from the craziness.
Staff: 10+/10 AMAZING, friendly, perfect staff. (Thank you for an amazing stay, and being so friendly and welcoming to our son)
Room size is huge compared to hotels not only In Japan, but around the world.
The reviews talk about the outdated and older rooms and amenities, but it doesn’t matter because everything is so well clean and kept.
Onsen is great, and even allow tattoos!
We will definitely be back to Kawaguchi and this hotel!
- Kaz (10/5): - We liked everything about it,
Amazing stay, amazing staff,
Very good breakfast. Very good shuttle service.
- Eva (10/5): - People are kind and helped us getting to station catching our bus on time I am grateful and I loved the view from the window
- Claudia (10/5): - Amazing view of Mount Fuji from the room. Very spacious room. Green tea in the room. Comfortable beds. Great location really near the lake. Can hire bikes for 1500 yen for a day. Lovely onsen.
- Erick (10/5): - Therese was a beautiful view of Mount Fuji and parking was really easy considering it is right next store
- Tatyana (6/5): - If you're looking for a quiet place to unwind and unplug, this hotel might be just what you need. It’s definitely on the older side—think vintage charm rather than modern luxury. The decor and amenities are outdated, but there's an authenticity to the place that gives it character.
The price is fair for what you get, and while there’s not much to do in the immediate area, that kind of adds to the appeal if your goal is to rest and recharge. Don’t expect a packed itinerary—this is more of a slow-down-and-breathe kind of stay.
Overall, it’s a decent choice for those who value peace and a bit of old-school charm over flashy upgrades.
- Tyler (10/5): - Nice walking path right across the street
- Joseph (10/5): - Amazing!!
- Willie Kuanwei (10/5): Nice - nice location with hot spring, nice staffs
- Verified traveler (8/5):
- Matthew (10/5): - Great location by the lakefront, nice onsen, simple and affordable breakfast. We were able to rent bikes from the hotel and biked around the lake - great experience.
- Harmanprit (10/5): - Very kind staff, clean rooms.
- Fong Peng (10/5): - Great location just in front of Lake Ashi with nearby attractions within walkable distances. There’s onsen onsite with 1 small pool, and foot bath and bicycle rental outside of hotel. Friendly staff. Room is big but rather dated in room condition and facilities. Found hair in bathroom. Futon have to be self serviced.
- Merle (10/5): - Love its location
- Stephen (8/5): - Excellent property with amazing views
- Jacob (8/5): - Great spot for base camp to explore the area.
- Terry (6/5): - Good location and price. Needs updated. Really uncomfortable bed. Overall not terrible but not great.
- ?? (10/5): - good
- Islwyn (8/5): Touring Mount Fuji - We were made welcome on our arrival. The view of Mt Fuji from our room was spectacular. The room was large with separate eating and sitting area and a small kitchen. The beds were comfy. The only down points that the shower flow was rather weak and the general hotel decor was rather tired. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it and its location .
- Wendy (6/5): - Nice location, big room and friendly staff. However the property condition is very bad. old, smelly and dusty. The mattress is saggy and you can feel the spring.
- CHNG KOK (4/5): - We (myself and my wife) travel with children age 11 and 13.
The hotel charge us extra 9,900 yen each for each kids for one night, total 59,400yen for 3 night stay.
They cannot shows us the hotel policy for this charges.
We called Expedia line for help but nothing Expedia can do. Greatly disappointed.
We have no choice but to pay.
We now sought your help to refund this extra charges.
- Daniel (10/5): - It’s great and convenient
- Banh hai (4/5): - Mountain View and convenient with transit
- Sze Hon (10/5): - Prompt reply from staff online
Amazing view of Mt Fuji from our room, absolutely didn't expect this!
- chin (8/5): - Room too cold
- Yue (10/5): - Everything is good just that the room is dated.
- Sachitra (8/5): - The price is very reasonable, but the room is a little dated. Onsen is perfect.
- Fabiola (10/5): - This was an excellent hotel with great accommodations. The only thing they need is better pillows. The breakfast is optional We we’re not interested in it. We didn’t see one single guest eating the breakfast. There are not coffee shops open before 9am or 10am within walking distance so it seems it might be the only option if you don’t have a car or don’t want to walk for too long to get to the great bakery that opens at 8am. I recommend you bring food with you. There is a microwave in the first floor and there is a refrigerator and a tea kettle in the room. We brought food with us and that was great. Also, the Onsen was fantastic. It is great to sit and relax in hot spring water after a long day. Great place to stay.
- Zoe (8/5): Mt Fuji visit - We came to see Mt Fuji and we did! Excellent view from our room window.
Onsen was lovely too, with lots of amenities, a foot and leg massager and very clean.
My only criticism is part of the hotel seemed dated and worn but is was very clean.
All staff were helpful, friendly and attentive.
The shuttle to the train station was a bonus
- Mr. YUTTHAPHON (10/5): - Good
- Verified traveler (6/5): Peut mieux faire - Personnel accueillant, onsen agréable.
- Elisabeth (6/5): - Great location however the hotel is run down and service is mediocre. Low budget shampoo, cheap towels and lack of basic necessities (ie no water cooler, they told us to drink from the tap). Friendly staff but the hotel lacks basic essentials.
- Stephen (8/5): - The room is big enough for our friends gathering. We were really appreciate.
- YEN WEN (4/5): -
- hui (2/5): - The clerk's attitude is very bad. I don't use it twice. It's the worst.
- Tobias (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay very much! Big room with view on the lake and view on Mt. Fuji. Thank You for making it a wonderful trip!
- Kai Fai Eric (10/5):
- Susan (10/5): Great spot - The hotel was lovely and had traditional sleeping. Staff is lovely. Hotel is a little dated.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice big room - Nice big room. The place is old, which is why the price is good for the size. The room had 2 beds, but also a tatami room if you wanted to sleep on the floor, mats and comforters available in room. Had a shower room with a short deep tub and a separate toilet with bidet.
- Andrea (10/5): Convenient and comfy hotel in Kawaguchiko - We were very happy with our choice of hotel in Kawaguciko. As a family of 3 with a 3yo we needed some space and comfort and that's exactly what Shiki No Yado Mt Fuji provided.
Our mixed Western-Japanese style room was large and homely, with a stunning view over Fujiyama. The hotel provides free pick-up from and drop-off to the train station at certain hours, which was convenient. The onsen facility is also great, with a hot pool, a sauna and a couple of devices for foot and leg massage. Breakfast was not included but you can have it for a little extra (¥500 pp I think), but we didn't use it.
You can have a nice walk around the lake or you can catch one of the tourist buses (green or red lines) to explore the area; the bust stop is exactly in front of the hotel.
Some of the staff speak good English - while I speak hyperbasic Japanese - so communication was also easy.
We definitely recommend this hotel and we would stay again on our next trip to the Fuji Five Lakes.
- Ming (4/5): - Building and facilities are very old, ac making noise whole night, water faucets leaking, carpets are very old with some areas worn out, I won’t come back to this hotel.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Clean but outdated - Needs some TLC. Clean but outdated hotel. Big room, no microwave in room.
- Adam (8/5): Wonderful Value and Location - While the hotel has seen better days it is never the less well maintained. The rooms are incredibly spacious, and the hotel has a wonderful wine selection that can be purchased in the lobby for a reasonable price. Additionally, you can rent bikes and enjoy a Onsen afterwards to refresh. The location is right next to the lake and the view is superb.
- Eva (10/5): - Everything was just fine for me.
- austin (10/5): For a foreigner outside of the city. - The staff was friendly and spoke good English so communicating was easy.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - This is the most affordable hotel we can find around the Lake Kawaguchi area for a family of 6. The lake is a short walk from the hotel and one can get a splendid view of Mt Fuji on a clear day. We managed to take several photographs of Mt Fuji and its reflections on the Lake at different times of the day. The hotel facilities are basic and the hotel itself is rather old. It is clean and the staff are pleasant. We used this as a base to tour the Mt Fuji area and Hakone.
- Viren (10/5): Comfortable hotel with history. - A piece of history in this hotel. It was in a good location for sightseeing and shopping. Free shuttle bus into the town.
- Peter (8/5): - Lovely room with great view and good space
Hotel a little worn and roof top restaurant closed and no access to lovely viewing room
Breakfast a little quirky.. croissants and mini frankfurter sausages choice of coffee OR Orange (not both!!)
- Verified traveler (8/5): easy access via resort shuttle bus, green and red - Easy access to hotel, but convinence store is abit far. Buy some stuff before heading back to your room.
- Chuen Hong (8/5): Spacious room with Mt Fuji view - Very spacious room with futons and western-style beds. Ask for rooms with view of Mt Fuji, the view is great when the skies are clear! Location might be quiet with few restaurants around and Wifi is quite weak.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Everything is great. There's the bus stop in front of the hotel.. very easy to travel along lake
- Chris (8/5): Nice old hotel - Hotel is old but comfortable. We stayed 1 night in a room facing the lake. The lake is not exactly next to the hotel, it is across the road after a huge car park. Location is convenient, the bus stop is right in front of it. But as the queue for the bus at Kawaguchiko Station is long and we carried only backpacks no luggage, we decided to walk our way from the Station to the Ropeway and also from the Ropeway to the hotel later. It is a very manageable distance and in fact fun as we get to enjoy the nice cold weather and nice scenery and able to stop to eat and shop a bit along the way, not having to take note of the timing of the buses all the time. Room is huge, there is a strong bamboo smell but fine for us. Breakfast is so-so, not much variety and we would prefer to do without it if we book the hotel again. There are also restaurants nearby (15-20 min slow walk) that opened till 10pm or even 2am, unlike what we read in some reviews earlier. So no need to worry about nothing to eat in the evening or night unless you do not want to walk out of the hotel. Hotel staff are friendly and helpful. We took the hotel shuttle van to the Kawaguchiko Station after we checked out. Note: you can also arrange for pick up from the station to the hotel if you want to but it is available only after check in time.
- Thitikarn (8/5): Room is very clean and staff are very nice. - Very polite staff. Clean room with nice size and comfortable.
- Lee (8/5): Hotel near lake and with Mt.Fuji view -
No early pickup,check-in.
Else staff helpful.
Near bus stop
- Wendy (4/5): Lake Kawaguchi - My boys n I had mosquitoe bite. Nice place but a little old. Nice scenery n onsen
- Christopher (8/5): - Old but nice with great views.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Comfortable but hotel starting to age - Hotel provides pick up service from Kawaguchiko Station from 1500hrs onwards, but no return service to the station. Last pick up time is 1900hrs. The tourist information centre can call the hotel for you.
About 15-20 mins walk from Kawaguchiko Station. A comfortable place with public onsen on the first floor although hotel show signs of ageing. Do note that the main entrance is closed from 0000 to 0600hrs everyday although you can phone someone to gain access. Service however was excellent.
- Jenn (8/5): Giant Fuji - The town was peaceful the night we arrived at the hotel. We traveled relatively late, so the reception called me to remind me that I had a dinner reservation. We checked in late, but the people at the reception were nice, and when we went to the dining hall, we were the only ones left and they had dinner all set up already. Even so, they were not impatient nor rushed us while we ate. The hotel room we booked was the combination Western and Japanese style room so there was plenty of room for the two of us. We used the Japanese area mainly. In the morning, we were pleasantly surprised by a giant view of Fuji. It was breathtaking. The late is right outside the hotel as well. Inside the room, the room feels tiny bit run down and the bath room was a bit smelly. Otherwise, it was clean so my boyfriend and I had a decent sleep. There is a bus stop right outside the hotel that will bring you pretty much to different points of interests around the lake.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Do not stay with this hotel - This hotel was not friendly. Hotel staff does not speak enough English and did not try to help out guests. My reservation was for a lake view room but instead they gave me a city view one. When asked, they portended did not understand. The hotel was empty but refused to let me check in just 30 minutes before the check in time of 3 pm. Once it hit 10am they front staff called in to rush you check out. The breakfast include with the reservation was so bad, limited variety, mostly rice, potatoes, rice porridge, and miso soup. The so call hot spring is just a small bathroom. I will never come back to this hotel again and definitely advise any of my friend not to stay with this hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice location with Kawagichiko Lake. - Very good choice if I visit Kawaguchiko again, Value of my money.
