- LBirdy93 (8/5): Unique stay but too close to the road - This hotel is very unique and the decor is amazing! The staff were brilliant, extremely helpful and could not do enough for us. We stayed in one of the wooden pods close to the cafe and reception and the pod itself was incredible, we had ostriches under our cabin and lots of other animals close by. However we were extremely close to the main road, which meant we were unable to sleep due to the noise of traffic until until 2am. Then when we did get to sleep, at 4:30am the birds were very loud and because of the type of cabin it is you literally cannot get any sleep. The food was good, the pool was great and I imagine if you stay closer to the beach (which I requested when booking on booking.com) I imagine you would have a very pleasant stay. The pods closest to the pool area are mud huts so you wouldn’t hear anything throughout the night. I would 100% recommend not booking the wooden huts we had! We enjoyed our stay and if we had been able to sleep then I would have given this a 5 star but we literally had about 4 hours sleep in a 2 night stay.

- CliffMore (10/5): Beautiful and comfortable hotel - Authentic hotel with beautiful and very comfortable rooms. The bedrooms are very spacious and king-size beds who are very comfortable. I really loved the place and their sustainable footprint, like your coffee, which you have to grind yourself. The rooms, beach and pool are not very accessible if you have small kids.
- Gastro100 (10/5): Best value lunch of our trip and one of the best full stop. - We stopped here for lunch and a nose after reading a review in the independent this week. We ordered the morning glory and red curry to share. Very authentic and delicious - fully spiced to Thai levels (rather than western hotels). And only came to 645 baht with two beers and a non alcoholic drink. Absolutely worth a visit. Delicious. Thank you.

- Ursela (10/5): - The hut and bathroom were spacious. The hut comes with it's own seating area and hammock, mosquito net and air conditioning. There is a pool, but there are steps to the ocean directly as well. The food in the restaurant is delicious and the options for breakfast are quite varied. As the huts are set against the side of a hill part of the main path is a bit steep. I have read comments about roosters, and I have seen them on the premise, but I never heard them when I was inside my hut or sat in front of it.

- josV1989NB (10/5): The Mud, great eco resort - mae nam - Great traditional eco homes with amazing atmosphere and lovely staff. Mae nam is a little out the way so you need to rely on taxis or hire a car. Amazing eco farm on site. Beach is lovely in the mornings but the tide is out most of the day from about 2pm. Nice cool pool to dip in. Very peaceful. Live musicians most evenings. Really nice vibe. Perfect if you want to split a couple of weeks & spend a week or so here before heading to sonewhere a bit more commercial & lively like chaweng. Great value for money.
- Madeleine (4/5): - The only reason we’d rate this place 2/5 are due to the chickens that start roaring at 4-5am in the morning NON-STOP. We stayed in the treehouse E1, which is right above the ostriches and greenhouses, which I believe have some chickens and roosters in there. They start crying around 4am and by 5am they’re non-stop cuckoo dooing like puppies in a locked cage crying to be let out. It’s really disturbing and loud, it goes on until noon and you don’t get a restful sleep. We’re also right next to the highway so the car sounds are also pretty loud during the day; quiet at night. Such a shame because it’s a such a cute little treehouse, with a small far and beautiful cafe and restaurant. They provide toothbrushes, towels, umbrella, everything which is nice. But thank god we only stayed 2 nights, the chickens were just unbearable. The treehouse is not bug proof. There is A/C but lots of gaps on the floors and around doors. So you really need to use the mosquito net when you sleep: My other minor complaint is that it’s literally a lock and key, kinda annoying. And lastly, you will need to rent a motorbike, nothing not even the atm/money exchange is within walkable distance. The staff are nice and they have such cute uniforms. Restaurant food is limited but the ambience is very nice. Breakfast also quite limited.

- Danielle (10/5): Chilled and natural vibe - I loved staying at The Mud. It’s such a cool place with a really chilled and natural vibe. The food is great and the drinks are amazing, as well as the service. 10/10
- Kendall (8/5): - We stayed here one night because we were taking a ferry from nearby pier. It was perfect for this. Pool is cute and refreshing. Beach not really useable for sunbathing or swimming but excellent for strolling and exploring. Water is shallow very far out. Restaurant food is good. Rooms are spacious, beds are comfortable. The area lacks much in walking distance. Not a lot of grocery stalls or restaurants but it is a fishing cove not a beach resort area so that’s to be expected. Fun to visit. It’s quiet and reserved on this side of island.
- simonbP3930PX (6/5): Stuck in the Mud - The individual circular bungalows are very spacious and artistically designed. You feel like you’re in a jungle hut. The gardens are beautifully maintained and the staff are extremely polite. It’s very tranquil here. On the flip side, breakfast is quite limited and nothing is made fresh. So if you want eggs as part of your breakfast, it’s a lottery as to whether they were cooked 2 minutes or 20 minutes ago. The daytime menu is generous enough, however if you decide on a burger and fries for lunch; you’ll receive a big juicy burger with 6 or 7 fries. When I ordered a pork chop and fries, it came with 8 fries. Due to the language barrier, it’s frustrating to try and complain. Why “average” then, food aside? Well, the pool and beach pictures portrayed on “booking.com” are, in my opinion, grossly misleading. The pool is there but it’s surrounded by 8 sun beds, half of which are very grubby, very old plastic ones. They look second hand. There are no sun umbrellas. The pool bar doesn’t exist. There is no real beach, just a metre wide stretch of stony sand that disappears when the tide comes in. Visitors should also note that the resort is quite isolated and you’ll need a rental car or taxis to get to a shop or another beach. I would not recommend the Mud to anyone who has even the slightest mobility issues due to the steep wooden steps you need to access between the restaurant/reception area and your accommodation.
- jaz001 (4/5): Miserable rude manager and staff - Did not stray here but went to the restaurant for a meal 6 adults, 2 were a bit late and explained to manager we were waiting for them, yet he still insisted on asking us to order repeatedly, when our friend’s finally arrived we ordered, four of us ordered t bone steak and were only offered medium or well done, we all chose medium, we had to send them back as were so tough and overdone, manager was aggressive as if we were to blame for complaining, steer clear of this place for food.

The mud has had massive improvements since and it is fun to look around. Ostriches are fun to watch whilst sat with one of their awesome shakes. The avocado espresso is a must try too!

Great breakfast and food. They have a great variety on the menu. A taxi will be needed if you need to get out shopping.
- yasminwong2014 (10/5): Beautiful & unique stay, would 100% recommend - Staying at The Mud is a unique and beautiful experience! Beautiful view of the sea when you step out of your hut, the beach is quite and relaxing. The room was spacious with lots of attention to detail with bamboo toothbrushes, shower cabs etc! The food from their restaurant was very nice, staff are helpful, friendly and eager to help. There’s also a cute cafe overlooking The Mud Farm which has lots chickens and ostrich’s!! Overall an unique stay and would definitely recommend!! There’s wasn’t anything I didn’t like about the property but keep in mind that the main areas are at least 25-35 mins away, for example the airport and central festival. Also be aware that you do get the odd lizard or cockroach in your room, you have a bug/mosquito next that goes round your bed so I recommend you use it in the night! We hired a car which was only £35 a day and made it a lot easier to get around and see the island. Central Festival was a great place to visit for shops, food and markets.
- Erika3101hoi (10/5): Amazing stay & food - My compliments to the staff of the restaurant. The salmon sashimi was super fresh and their cocktails amazing. We were very fond of the strawberrry daiquiri and passion fruit & ginger drink! The food was really good and the staff very kind!!! If your staying their for the night I recommend a walk on the beach as it's the most quiet beach I've ever seen! Their breakfast is also really nice. Very easy access from the pool to the beach. They have a farm with chickens and ostriches! And a very relaxing atmosphere is in the air with al the ropes and lights (kind of feels like an adult playground). An important point is: If your staying in the bamboo room, you should bring earbuds. Not because of music, but because it's above the chickens and they wake up early. If you're a light sleeper, you'll wake up! There is a small supermarket down the street in case you need something like water late in the evening.

- allaoz2305 (10/5): Nice And quiet! - The mud is a very authentic and nice hotel. If you want to relax in quiet, this hotel is perfect for you. The staff is very friendly and the rooms are clean. I can also highly recommend the food in the restaurant. It’s delicious. You do need a car of motorbike to explore the island or go to the crowded places as the hotel is not in the center.
- phanidas2016 (2/5): Broken facilities, poor hospitality and staffs lack of training. - @ First disappointment was the beach, but that was our bad🙈 choosing the wrong location. Muddy and rocky beach. -@ Second, broken AC which is an unfortunate thing to happen, but it can be fixed. @Third, hospitality and satffs service mind this can also be fixed with the right training. @Lastly, our experience, we tried to give a chance to the hotel to fix until the end but they chose not to do anything about it. Very disappointed!! And this cannot be fixed! We booked and stayed in one of their beachfront villa for a night and we paid double (over $ 100) as it was a long weekend. And it was very disappointed with their hospitality/service mind mostly from just a broken AC in our villa. It started dripping in the middle of the night (it was over our bed), we tried to ignored it and turned our heads to the other side of the bed, but it keep dripping and getting worse soaked up half of our bed. So, we couldn't sleep any longer and decided to seek help by calling reception, but one answer. We then walked up and found a security guy, he went to wake someone up, who he called Captain. We explained our problem to the Captain and politely asked him to please open a new room for us to sleep. He has to call another person to help us (someone from reception office), and go back to his room. We were waiting for 15-20 mins at the lobby and a lady turned up walking here and there and not a word from her. She then handed the key of a new room to us said "the new room is next to your room". There is absolutely NO hospitality manner at all from these two staffs, not even a simple "Sorry for the inconvenience". And I would expect someone to walk us to our new room, not letting us go in the dark at nearly 4am. We expected that we'd be treated better and our issue from last night would at least being recognised with the price we paid (over $100) and get compensation for that really. But nothing happened, so we raised it up during checkout and the answer we've got was we booked through Agoda and nothing they can do about it, but they can give discount on F&B (really?) which wasn't an option for us as we were leaving by boat. I can always accept that things can happen, but when they choose to don't do anything about it. It's unacceptable for me.

We were guest here for 1 week and are deaply disappointed - its an example how to make a person angry at a real paradise! Bad stuff, very bad stuff, food below average, small and boring breakfast, bad room service, tiny pool and no beach, and a careless owner, that despite all the complaints nothing happened! Dangerous for kids due to broken wooden terraces and the shore full of sharp stones etc.
- NikkiI919 (6/5): They don't listen - Unfortunately I can't find a place to review just the restaurant of The Mud. I have not stayed at the hotel part. I have been to the restaurant more than once. Last night being one of the times. They simply don't care! They ask you about your spice level and because we had experienced it before this time we said "very low spice and closer to no spice". The dish arrived (by the way we're generally ok with spice) this was just awful! You can't taste anything, you're fighting through it the whole time. We told the waiter, first he giggled then mumbled a half apology and quickly walked off. At no time did he go to the kitchen and let them know. This we know as the kitchen is wide open to view. I don't know how it can be for anybody who can't take spice.

- Reeta (10/5): - The Mud is really beautiful, the stuff is great, special thanks to the young man at the reception, cannot remember his name. Everything is clean and works well. The food is delicious. Enjoyed the live singers at night at the restaurant. It is child friendly. The swimming pool is clean and the sea is just in front.
- Mark (10/5): - This was a great hotel with a perfect price point. You will have to travel a bit for the stunning beaches of Ko Samui but this hotel is close the the ferry and can rent a scooter for about 250 baht a day, I will defiantly be returning in the future.
