Guest Reviews
- David (7/5): - Great location, staff really nice and helpful. Rooms good size Bit disappointed with breakfast.
Choice ok, however quality of cooked breakfast could be better.
- Guest (10/5): Absolutely loved it - The breakfast was very nice ,the setting of the place is spectacular Not a lot
- Elizabeth jane (5/5): Disappo - Location stunning. Appreciate the history of the building but desperately needs work. Mould on bedroom walls and bathroom. Only 5 channels worked on tv and all of them were channel 5. Breakfast very poor quality. Lukewarm also. Tinned fruit - no fresh. Disappointing stay.
- Dylan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stuart (3/5): Not worth the money - Views The room ,the buffet breakfast not advertised as this on website
- Draycott (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michelle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (8/5): Beautiful Location, wonderful hotel - Perfect location. Lovely and peaceful. Beautiful scenery. Rooms were spotlessly clean and beautiful building It is maybe a personal thing but, whilst we know people like to take dogs on holiday, we didn't like the fact that dogs were allowed in the breakfast room.
- Susan (9/5): Thankyou! It provided the relaxation we both needed - The location is a short pleasant walk to the centre of Grasmere. It is a hidden gem, lovely grounds provided a peaceful stay in beautiful surroundings. Good for walking or just relaxing. I would definitely use this property again. Staff all very friendly
- Mike (5/5): Our bin in our bathroom had the previous guests waste in it... - The location and the weather The cleaning of the room was not up to standard expected...
No management to been seen in total time of our stay
Out of date milk served at breakfast
- Mills (8/5): Very good -
- Luke (8/5): Very good -
- Helen (6/5): Beautiful location and views - a real retreat - Beautiful location - so lovely to be in such a quiet and historic location - fabulous view from our window. The breakfast was cold and there were no berries and only a bowl of natural yogurt. We’re used to sour dough and Greek yogurt so that was disappointing.
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional - Just beautiful.
- Lorraine (7/5): A treat for the senses - Location was stunning. Bed was comfortable, powerful shower, just creaky floorboards. Breakfast was self service; however it would have been more efficient if individual breakfast orders were taken to save on time waiting for replenishments and any wastage.
- Deborah (6/5): Always love Lancrigg. However, this time, our room was a bit of a let down. - Beautiful, quiet area of Grasmere.
Excellent breakfast.
Lovely sitting room with log fire.
Honesty bar. Nightingale Room:
Room was very dark. Bedside lights not ambient.
Small window and very little view.
Small double bed (though comfy).
Bathroom in need of tlc/upgrade
Tea and coffee area difficult to use as tucked next to huge wardrobe with very little space to manoeuvre kettle etc.
- Noel (10/5): Happy days at Lancrigg - Amazing views. Deer spotting. Exploring the grounds. Evenings round the log fire. Being looked after by the excellent Sue for whom nothing seemed too much trouble. Beautiful room, excellent breakfast. Proximity to Village amenities and tourist attractions. The approach lane is slightly daunting H
- Simon (8/5): Very good -
- Michael (6/5): Poor staffing levels - Staff very pleasant and worked very hard. Went out of the way to make us feel very welcome. Our room was cold so the staff member put additional heating in the room for us. Limited staff resources. TV was not working in the room. Bar closed at 4 pm. Rooms were not cleaned and freshened up after first night.
- John (8/5): Very good - Breakfast was copious and good Nothing
- Ian (9/5): Lovely charming hotel. Amazing location, had a very enjoyable stay - Great location, lovely charming rooms. Very friendly staff. Breakfast was a touch disappointing. Food was luke warm at best.
- Carolyn (9/5): Beautiful & peaceful location. Great place to recuperate & relax. - The location was fantastic. The food was very good indeed. The staff were very helpful & hardworking. Would have appreciated daily room service including bins emptied & teacups refreshed.
- Sam (10/5): Surrender in Nature to care and warm fires and snuggly sofas! Relaxed and Majestic at the same time !! - Bohemian Feel - I felt made at home in heaven :)
The landscape around the hotel is breathtaking and no roads ( just the long path/ drive towards the Hotel ) so all you can hear is water and birds and Nature.
I really felt welcomed. Nothing ~ fabulous
- Rob (4/5): Average - The location is fantastic. The staff, although linited couldn’t do enough for you. We had spent the previous new year at lancrigg and it was excellent! This time it wasn’t. The room was tired, drafty cold and small. There wasn’t enough staff. The one main staff was run ragged trying to do everything. The New Year’s Eve event was poorly organised; confusion with menus etc. we were so disappointed. We had had such a wonderful time the previous year, had high expectations but was deeply disappointed.
- Steve (6/5): Lovely old building in lovely location but no real fire in depths of winter was a big omission for me. - Location, peace and quiet, walks from the door, views No real fire, dining room was a bit like a youth hostel layout, self service breakfast, no hand pumped ales and the ale available was way too cold.
- Mark (8/5): Excellent choice and location with some great staff - Location is perfect heating didnt come on in the evenings so it was a bit chilly
- Nigel (9/5): Looking for somewhere out of the ordinary? - Wonderfully characterful hotel with amazing staff in a fantastic location
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful location Nothing
- Lewis (10/5): Great evening, stunning cozy venue and the staff were so so helpful. There was an Australian girl who was ever so helpfu - Stunning venue and the facilities in the room were lovely! It was a bit dark on the drive up when you turn into the property.
- Graham (10/5): Interesting hotel with a great history - The fact that other guests were paying a lot less than us because Booking .com and Lancrigg reduced their prices after we had paid and didn't want to give us a reduction.
- Christopher (10/5): Comfortable, relaxing and uplifting - Beautiful setting on wooded slopes, remote from Grasmere but an easy walk in to the village. Sited at the start of the Helm Crag walk. The property feels genuine and traditional with charming features and magnificent views over the valley. The house is set on a large estate with woods, walks, fields and streams. The breakfasts were very good with plenty of choice and the restaurant food was very enjoyable.
- Dorian (10/5): Scarfell Pike ideal hotel location - Room was clean, well kept with a lot of character and in an ideal location for travelling to lots of different sites in the Lake District. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was one of the best hotel meals I've had.. me and my partner stayed to climb Scafell Pike, the path we took was just under a two hours drive from the hotel which worked out well as were pretty central, Windermere lake was only 30 minutes away and lots of other nice walks and mountain routes closer. Would definitely stay here again. Some of the food in Grassmere was hit and miss, do your research on places to eat. Wish I'd tried the dinner at the actual hotel as the breakfast was great. Remember to bring a torch with you as no streetlights at night.
- Carol (10/5): Hidden Gem - Loved it, beautiful historic but comfortable accommodation.
Lovely walks from the front door.
Staff hard working and friendly. Nothing
- Jennifer (8/5): Very enjoyable good food excellent weather & fantastic location - Full of character lovely bath & shower good food & friendly staff. Excellent location The room was a little small
- Winrow (8/5): Sereen was the lady in charge and she was really helpfull and a definite asset for the hotel. - It's in beautiful spot and the meal on the first night was lovely The second and third nights the main course had to be pizza which I am not a fan of. However Sereen was really good and offered us alternatives, we managed with starters and chips - the goats cheese tart was lovely.
- Tommyharrispt (7/5): Good - Nice hotel and lovely situated Room was quite small but luckily I was on my own, breakfast is also served quite late considering most people that stay want to get out early into the hills.
- Michael (8/5): We had a wonderful time hiking in the beautiful area despite any other shortcommings - Beautiful, peaceful, quiet, great location . We had no hot water one evening.
No one came in to make the bed or replace coffee cups or water glasses. We ran out of toilet paper. Rooms were not serviced.
- Katherine (8/5): Lovely relaxed place to stay with very friendly staff - Beautiful setting away tucked away in a beautiful valley. Walks from the door. Quirky and relaxed place to stay. Tiny issue with hot water
- Sarah (6/5): OK - It was quite characterful and had nice views. Quite a late breakfast for business people (from 8.30) and fairly mediocre. Tired property.
- Pinar (6/5): Great location, but expensive rates for a building that seems to be held together by nothing but paint. - The Location and the view from the room was quite nice. The room was so small that we couldn’t open our suitcases and walk around easily. The state of the building is appalling. It needs a serious renovation.
- Vipond (9/5): Superb - Location staff food comfort view Some parts dated require repair
- Geoffrey (9/5): A lovely spot for my grandaughter to experience the Lake District for the first time - Location was perfect, room was lovely Maybe a little more guidance about what to do at breakfast
- Paul (9/5): Excellent stay with some stunning scenery close by & right next to the lovely village of Grasmere - Lovely building with a very big room. Sereen who greeted us tended to our every need & was a big help. Breakfast was fantastic The road up can be a bit undulating
No remote for the tv
- Kate (10/5): Exceptional -
- Donna_x (8/5): Very good - A very quirky, delightful hotel in an amazing spot. 20 minute beautiful scenic walk into Grasmere. The food was delicious, pricey but it is a hotel and in my opinion, worth the price as so tasty, we ate there both nights. The gardens are amazing and there is so much room for the dogs to safely roam free. The hotel is really dog friendly which made our stay even more enjoyable!
A special THANK YOU to Serene ❤️ She was so so friendly, helpful and works really hard,, the owners are lucky to have her - thanks Serene, was lovely to meet you.
I would definitely recommend the Lancrigg. A dry room would be really useful for wet walking boots/ coats etc
Self-serve breakfast was a tad manic but the hotel was full and occupants were given time slots preferences which I don't think was adhered too
Lighting in room was poor
Other than that, a perfect hotel
- Deborah (8/5): Beautiful, quiet location - Beautiful, quiet location. Rooms not made up each day. Had to ask for toilet roll.
- Atkinson (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jason (10/5): Would come again - Great location for walking, comfortable room, and a good breakfast.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful historic place with great staff. Leaving.
- Cummins (8/5): The hotel is fabulous and staff equally the same. We felt very welcomed . Food was great, room was satisfactory. We would - In a stunning location
- Jack (10/5): Exceptional -
- Justin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jayne (4/5): Very disappointing and wouldn’t recommend it. - Bed was comfortable, nice hot shower, setting was beautiful. Nice and quiet. Limited dinner menu with no veggie option. Hotel was down at heel and not as clean as it could have been. Lack of attention to detail. The bedroom needed airing - had a sour smell, there was hair in the bathroom sink, dead insect in the bath. The sitting room also had a sour smell. Staff not easy to find. We stayed at Lancrigg about 10 years ago and were delighted with it - this time was a big disappointment. We wouldn’t recommend it.
- Bronwen (10/5): Fabulous relaxing stay with delicious breakfast - Comfortable bed, the room was clean
Excellent breakfast
Beautiful surrounding and a lovely lounge to relax in in the evening
- Andrew_alderete (10/5): Exceptional -
- Travass (6/5): Pleasant - Beautiful hotel and great location Very small room for the price I paid poor nights sleep due too noise from boiler also no view from room disappointed really
Had to queue for breakfast the hour time slot for all guests is a bad idea
Quite sad really coz it was a lovely hotel
- Tony (7/5): Lancrigg - Staff location and very comfortable bed were a big plus.. Nothing to dislike but felt the building looked tired ..
- Jack (7/5): Over all a very pleasant stay - Fantastic location with beautiful surroundings and a quirky hotel. Struggled to get in touch with the hotel after multiple calls, days before we were due to arrive.
- Jaideep (10/5): A quaint, idyllic place in Grasmere - Fantastic location- charming place with lush greenery and stunning views
Great staff- very friendly and helpful.
Enough parking space cant think of anything
- Michael (10/5): Warm welcome,Beautiful views, good old fashioned cooking.very relaxing weekend. - Perfect location beautiful views, good hearty breakfast, nice evening meal.cosy welcoming little b&b .loverly staff, nice little weekend break. Nothing to dislike,it was exactly as expected.
- Emma (7/5): Lovely stay :) - The staff were really lovely and friendly. The location was absolutely lovely. It’s an easy walk into Grasmere and there’s loads of walks you can do for the hotel. The breakfast was disappointing and the bed was so hard!!
- Patricia (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mark (9/5): A very comfortable and welcoming hotel, perfectly located for walking from the front door. - Location was perfect and the Barn Rooms of a high standard. The team were excellent and Katrina went out of her way to be helpful and welcoming. Always nice to come back to a log fire on a wet and windy day. Nothing - all very enjoyable
- Lee (8/5): Very good -
- Lynn (10/5): Perfect location to enjoy the lakes - View from patio area
- James (8/5): Very good - Location fantastic, staff brilliant No fridge in the room
- Bruce (9/5): Would recommend this hotel, ideal for walkers wth many walks on the doorstep. - In a beautiful location. Good food, staff very friendly and courteous.
- Kate (10/5): Perfect food, location and staff! - Absolutely sstunning! our favourite stay in the lakes by far!
we have stayed here 3 times previously and it has een undergoing renovations to exceptional standards.
we love the small unique stay we feel when we go , in fact we feel its like staying with relatives... so relaxing x
- Janice (8/5): Most enjoyable, lovely staff and blissful location. - The setting was wonderful and was made more so by the fantastic staff. The property is lovely with fantastic views.
We liked everything about the property, the history of it and loved the open fire in the lounge. The only reason we didn’t score it all excellent was that the breakfast was mediocre.
- Anne (8/5): Very good -
- Monika (10/5): Exceptional -
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Soniya (9/5): good other then sign post - the girl n chef work there they excellent 😁 property good but road n sign for property not good enough they should put more effort pls
- Tracy (10/5): Amazing location, staff were welcoming and friendly, food was lovely. Definitely staff again! - Lots of history to the property, location was amazing, very comfortable room There wasn’t anything I didn’t like.
- Todd (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ashley (10/5): Exceptional - Staff so friendly beautiful location walks on yiur doorstep. Nothing
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - Location, staff, food, drink, rooms all top notch 😍😍
- Jim (10/5): Just a nice distance away from civilisation. - This is an exceptional house in an exceptional location, real sprouting daffodils (shut it, Wordsworth!), the first Chaffinch of Spring, Herdwick sheep lowing on the fells, what standard are you demanding? Boy, the driveway is a challenge in almost complete darkness.
- Elizabeth (10/5): The stay was excellent, booking was not good….expect hidden extras to be charged without any communication or agreement - Good evening food, welcoming (despite the bad experience when booking), large roomft When booking a twin room for the price quoted on booking.com the hotel took extra money off my card without notifying me, £10 was to set up the twin beds (which I had already paid for as per the booking!), they also charged extra for payment with Amex and had they had notified me I would have used a different card!
- Sylwia (10/5): Great location - This is our second time at this hotel, perfect location, comfortable rooms, dog-friendly.🥰 Room price high...but worth it 👌
- Rob (10/5): Two days amazing 🤩 - Amazing staff and location
New year eve party brilliant
- Anna (9/5): Lancrigg Review - Very helpful staff, beautiful grounds, lovely views and a range of lovely walks from the hotel. A really peaceful place to spend a couple of days. Limited vegetarian options on the menu and the shower wasn't working.
- Anonymous (10/5): Lovely place, peaceful, tranquil, great room, very comfortable and absolutely stunning sourroundings. - Lovely property, very peaceful and quiet location. Room was very comfortable, shame it didn’t have a bath but shower was good. Very comfortable bed. Nice lounge with open fire and lovely little bar room. Lovely gardens and surrounding area. There was nothing we didn’t like. Lovely place. I would say some lighting out in the car park or little walkways would be beneficial on an evening as it is pitch black, I used head torch to find my way back to car and walk the dogs but overall lovely place would definitely stay again. Only other thing I would recommend is to have a little bit bigger menu offer. We would have definitely stayed there for evening meals every night if there were more options but each night was same menu. I think guests would be more likely to stay in the hotel for meals rather than traveling out to villages or towns for meals. Also be good for the hotel to have their guests stay there as it is a lovely place. Add a steak and some fish and that will make a huge difference. Loved the place.
- Bernadette (10/5): Exceptional - Really lovely staff, beautiful surroundings, great food. So glad we decided to book for a December get away. Will be back.
- Lesley (9/5): Relaxing, enjoyable, fun, definate a return. - Just outside of the village, which meant it was quiet. Quaint. Breakfast was simply eat as much as you wanted and was all freshly cooked and presented. Staff were amazing and friendly. Noisy bed. Nothing else to say, as the rest was spot on.
- Julian (9/5): Lovely location and very dog-friendly - Amazing location and very nice hotel. Good food selection at the restaurant and we were able to take our dog everywhere. Nothing
- Luke (9/5): A wonderful location and incredibly warm and welcoming place to stay in the Lake District - The location and host were a stand out. .
- Nick (9/5): Superb - warm and cosy despite the snow outside. great breakfast.
- Peter.w.sheppard (9/5): Great place to stay in Grasmere - breakfast was great and the hotel is in a great location to walk from the door....
- Simon (10/5): From the minute we arrived we were made to feel welcome - superb spot in the Lakes - Everything
- Charlotte (10/5): Exceptional - Relaxing and made to feel like home. Staff are lovely and really make you feel welcome. Rooms are very clean and comfy and the views are just so beautiful. The food was just spot on, some of the best food iv had. We cannot wait to come back in February but this time we want to come back for longer. A night away childfree and this place was just what we needed to wind down. Thankyou so much for making our very rare childfree night away perfect. 😊
- Sylwia (10/5): Exceptional - Spectacular views....
- Gary (9/5): Lovely hotel would definitely visit again. - Staff are helpful and friendly. Room was warm comfortable and good value. Nice relaxing surroundings and lounge area. Shower nice and hot. Need a torch to find your car in the car park at night as it was in total darkness.
- Madmoose (7/5): Enjoyed stay but let down by a cold and damp room. - Location was very nice with an excellent view from the hotel which we loved. Lovely hotel grounds to walk in which also lead to a well frequented walk to Easdale Tarn. The staff were helpful and friendly. The room was very well furnished and spacious with plenty of room to accomodate our dog too. Grasmere village was about half a mile drive or a nice walk. When we arrived we found the wi-fi was down for the whole of our stay. The heating in the property was totally inadequate and very very cold in our room, which was Easdale on the ground floor. Our dog was shivering in the night. We were shown how to turn the heating on manually which helped, but in our room the one radiator was nowhere near enough to heat the room. We also found the heated towel rail in the ensuite was installed upside down, so it didn't work properly. This was the sole source of heat in the ensuite so having a shower left the room saturated with condensation. No working extraction for the steam. I did advise staff of this so hopefully they rectify these.
- Calder (10/5): Exceptional -
- Debglo (6/5): Anniversary weekend - The location is amazing and peaceful, grasemere is also a favourite for ourselves, the staff where very friendly and welcoming, eventually when moved the room was clean, a good size had a lovely view and the bed was comfortable. On arrival we where put in a ground floor room right by the kitchen /dinning room with lots of noisy traffic back and forth, the room and bed where small and there was no view, as I had paid for a superior room with large double bed (description on booking.com) we where most dissapointed, I therefore went to the staff and asked was this a superior room as this is what I had booked, she replied no this is a classic/standard, after explaining I had booked a superior, she was apologetic and said she would look to see what other rooms she had available, she proceeded to show me 2 other rooms one of which was a much nicer room, on the first floor with a view and the bed did look slightly bigger, however when I asked was this a superior room for which I had paid she seemed very vague, and said I'm not to sure I would have to look on the website but the Internet is down, I'm sure she probably knew it wasn't a superior room but as we had turned up quite late due to traffic they where probably already taken,we agreed to accept the better room as we didnt really have a choice, after all the messing arround with rooms this meant it was now gone 7pm so had no choice but to eat onsite, the menu was very small, with just three main meals, and as someone who is gluten free there was only one option gluten free as standard for arround £28 pound, and although the meal I had which was the chicken was really tasty it was not very hot, had it been any cooler I would have sent it back, going back to the room went to make a cup of coffee, the cups were not clean they looked like they had had tea/coffee in them and had just been emptied and left to dry also with a dried white substance on the bottom, they did change them, also the kettle was positioned on a table directly under the tv and the steam from the kettle was rising directly onto all the wires and plugs that where hanging from the tv mount, which didn't seems the best for health and safety, the shower...
- Richard (7/5): Good -
- Colin (9/5): very relaxing in picturesque surroundings - variety of hot and cold breakfast food in cluding toast , staff were exceptional in approach and manor
- Susan (3/5): Poor -
- Anthony (7/5): The location. Isolated and no dinner. - Breakfast mirrored that at Holiday Inn Express I.e. tinned fruit, yoghurt, cereals buffet of sausages, scrambled eggs, bacon & baked beans. White & brown bread, rolls, croissants, jams, coffee & tea. No dinner, offered sandwiches! If you had told us that the property was out in the sticks a mile out of Grasmere up a narrow road with no street lighting on half of it we would not have gone. No shops, nothing near by so had to drive to get evening meal.
