- Hanna (7/5): - Eine schöne Unterkunft, etwas abgelegen, aber sehr ruhig und erholsam Bei uns funktionierte der Strom nicht, den Gästen vorher hatte man allen abgesagt und wir wurden in anderen Zimmer Kategorien untergebracht (wir hatten eigentlich die höhere Kategorie gebucht) damit ein Generator uns versorgte. Dieser funktionierte auch nicht richtig, sodass warm Duschen teilweise gar nicht möglich war. Das Personal versuchte zwar das Beste draus zu machen, jedoch war es dennoch für uns sehr einschränkend.

- Bridget (10/5): Exceptional property in the heart of the Eastern Cape - We had a truly wonderful stay at African Safari Lodge. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by friendly, knowledgeable staff who had our entire programme perfectly organised. Although the property is rated as a 4-star lodge, it genuinely felt like we received 5-star treatment throughout our stay. This trip was especially meaningful as it was my fiancé and I’s engagement, and Hennie, Gift, and Elizabeth went above and beyond to help my partner execute the most incredible proposal. Their care, attention to detail, and genuine kindness made the experience unforgettable. We originally booked for one night but loved it so much that we extended our stay to two nights. We were fortunate to enjoy two amazing buffalo sightings on the river cruise, along with an abundance of birdlife and small buck. We will most definitely be back and highly recommend African Safari Lodge to anyone looking for a special, memorable experience. Would be nice to have a hot tub and gowns :)

- Matthews (10/5): A great experience, a great location and well worth the drive in, super quiet. Memorable - We enjoyed everything about our stay. We were upgraded to a Deluxe Suit at the Lodge, a real surprise. Thank you to the generous owner and manager. My friend who is a keen birder and I have been travelling around South Africa. We appreciated being able to awake in quiet surroundings and viewing birds over a leisurely breakfast. The road in is long but well worth the effort, however be warned an urban cruiser or similar vehicle is necessary. We viewed some of the wild life as we drove in, the staff were pleasant and the beds and facilities were top class. The views are stunning. I can highly recommend a stay at the African Safari Lodge. There is nothing I did not like.

The views were absolutely stunning and made the experience even more special. The room was very beautiful, well-kept, and extremely comfortable. The food prepared by the chef was amazing; every meal was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The activities offered were also very enjoyable and added so much value to the stay. Overall, it was a relaxing and memorable experience, and I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking for comfort, great food, and beautiful surroundings.

Very remote! - Very remote, long 4 km gravel road, but an experience on its own with giraffes and other game on its way. Perfect relaxing view and very good dinner and breakfast. Very friendly staff with option to have laundry done. Thanks. Exit gate did not work when we wanted to leave and it it took quite some time to open it manually (by ourselves). However a thunderstorm the night before may have caused this. Good kitchen in the rooms (Chalet).

- Katharina (10/5): - Wir hatten einen wunderschönen Aufenthalt in der African Safari Lodge zum Abschluss unserer GardenRoute Reise. Die Lage ist unglaublich, direkt am Fluss. Man kann mit dem Kanu von der Lodge los paddeln, Warzenschweine, Büffel, Impalas und sogar den Malachite Kingfisher sehen. Das Personal war sehr zuvorkommend und haben immer alles unkompliziert organisiert. Die Zimmer sind ausgesprochen sauber. Die Massage war toll. Der GameDrive mit Mike war der beste auf unserer gesamten Reise (auch ohne die Big5). Wir fanden die Größe der Lodge besonders angenehm, da es sehr privat und ruhig war (3 Suiten und 3 Zimmer). Die Anfahrt ist über eine kurze Schotterpiste, aber das ist absolut machbar auch ohne 4x4.

The lodge was spotless, well-maintained, and felt like the perfect mix of comfort and nature. There was honestly nothing I didn’t like. The staff were absolutely wonderful – so friendly, welcoming, and always going out of their way to make sure we had the best experience. Their warmth made the whole stay even more special.

- Tamsin (4/5): Nice but too expensive for what it delivered. - The venue is beautiful. The drive in is wild so if you’ve got a normal car it will be a bit bumpy, but you’ll spot game along the way. The staff are so friendly and lovely, they went out of their way. The value for money. The room was tiny and dark. The cost for one lasagne for dinner was R250!!! That’s daylight robbery, especially when the salad was some tomatoes, onions and crumbled cheese. No bread or any drinks included and the lasagne was tiny. No water provided so you had to pay for everything. The accommodation price is higher than another place I stayed in grahamstown which offered me a drawing room, massive breakfast, huge bedroom and gorgeous views. Beautiful place but the cost isn’t reflective of what you get.

- Vuyiswa (10/5): What a wow! - Have you ever heard the sound of silence. It's priceless! It happened this past Saturday when I was left alone in the main lodge reading my John Grisham novel. I put it down for a bit and heard... nothing. That's my most cherished memory of our stat at African Safari, especially coming from the bustle of this busy lifestyle that we lead The staff were AMAZING! Dean, our host, was always close by to assist when needed. We had a braai Saturday evening. Dean arranged for our meat, spices, plates, and cutlery to be arranged neatly for us. He even started the fire for us!!! Abongile ( I think) our waiter for the other meals always a smile and served us impeccably. Don't get me started about the views. What a wow! The river and greenery just calmed me whenever I was on the verandah (which was a lot). The giraffes greeted us whenever we drove in. Warthog were a regular feature as well. Oh, and the river views! I definitely have to give them another mention. Thanks again, Dean and your staff, for an amazing time at your lodge. We're definitely going back! The main lodge dies not have a parking place nearby, like the other lodges. We had to park our car a short distance from the lodge and going out at night to fetch something from the car was daunting.

What made this stay exceptional for us was the incredible hospitality of our hosts. We’d arrived at the lodge on a whim at the last minute and were very ill prepared for our stay but our hosts went above and beyond to make us welcome and comfortable. - Constantina (10/5): A home away from home - I loved everything about this place. Firstly it exceeded my expectations in soo many ways. The actual place is even nicer than the photos. Dean and Gift greeted us as we arrived and honestly treated us as royalty! They were absolutely amazing. They made us feel comfortable and at home from the word go. We literally felt like we were staying with family. They totally went out for us in every way possible. Gift the chef cooked us up a delicious breakfast and I can honestly say that the steak at supper was one of the best I've ever had.( oh and let's not forget those veggies......mouthwatering) Something came up and we came back late the one night and they stayed up waiting for us to prepare our meal as we arrived .....which of course we by no means expected that from them, and yet they insisted. The lodge is about 25 min from Grahamstown so we were concerned if we went out to a party that we wouldn't be able to drive back if we had a drink or two. "No problem" Dean said I will take you, call me when you ready and I will come fetch you.....honestly who does that? Family only does that. Oh and then Dean took us for a boat ride down the river, cocktails, sunsets and a quick explanation about the dam and the animals and plants around it. Was soo interesting. We saw buck, warthogs, eagles and there's zebras, rhinos and giraffes and lots more animals.What an experience. I went for a swim in the dam everyday, the water was soo clean not only could I see the fish clearly, I could see the colours and patterns on them . Well all I have left to say is that I never expected to find this hidden gem in the middle of Grahamstown. At the end of the day we were just there for a school polo tournament, but now that I have discovered this lodge which was soo reasonably priced , I will definitely be back.....I kept saying upon waking up to the most beautiful view from our bedroom......my heart is full. The only thing i missed was a ceiling fan ontop of the bed, in my room which they said they had already bought and were installing soon . And there was however a portable fan in the room.
- Zintle (9/5): Words won't do justice here, you simply have to experience it! - Pictures on Booking.com do not do justice to the place, it is breathtakingly beautiful. I experienced what were probably the best sunrises and sunsets falling off the end of the gorgeous meandering river on which the property sits. The personalised service offered at dinner, bar accessibility and bottomless filter coffee make the place feel like home. Nothing.
- Julie (10/5): We loved our time of relaxation - The dinner and breakfasts were delicious. The location was perfect with the most beautiful views and the staff were amazing. If you are wanting a place to relax this is the place for you. We will definitely be back. We stayed in the luxury suite and being pensioner's, we found the stairs a bit hectic but that's what you get for wanting a great view! However, there is other accommodation that would be easier older people which also have great views.

- Martyn (10/5): Beyond all expectations would definitely stay again if we return to SA - The African Safari Lodge surpassed all of our expectations and truly rounded off a memorable South African holiday. The rooms were superb and our view was spectacular, with only the wildlife to fall asleep to at night. They have plenty of activities to boot, I would recommend the game drive, even as a small reserve there was plenty to see and Mike shared a wealth of knowledge on the animals and plants around the reserve. Gift, the resident chef, served superbly tasty dishes up throughout the day and was always happy to help with any special needs. We did two fishing trips, again with Mike and found it so relaxing. The car ports are all undercover. A special mention to Dean who did all he could to ensure our stay was memorable, a larger than life character but always so happy, as were all the staff. To get to the lodge there is roughly a 5km track. Wide enough for cars, however low clearance cars may struggle just a little. That said Deans Mercedes Coupe made it up there so it is entirely possible.

- Thomas (9/5): Tranquility and nature - The hotel is located in a beautiful Dam and it is very quiet. The view from the room is amazing. I think there are only 4 rooms in the so you feel you are alone in this place. One day we did a Safari which was fantastic and the other day we did a Fishing tour which was also fantastic and I highly recommend. There is no much to do around the hotel. Breakfast was ok but at 150R per person a bit pricey for Africa
- Dr (8/5): Very good - The location of the lodge is on the river bed bed. The surrounding is so tranquility and soul soothing 😌. Our room was perfect 🥰 lovely and magnificent. Four star indeed, safety is top notch 👌. The stuff friendly always willing to come to your aid and concern. Everything was excusite. The rooms don't have air-conditioning and the weather was at 35 degrees at night it was all sweat.
- Faizel (10/5): Absolutely amazing hidden Gem with breathtaking views - Excellent location overlooking the River. We stayed in the Kudu Room and it had such amazing views. We did the River Cruise with Dean and it was really awesome to see Water Buffalo in the river and walking through the forest. Gift also made some really fantastic meals for us and Lungi accommodated myself and my partner for massages, despite it being really late. The views from the veranda were also really amazing and my only regret was not to spend more time there. I'm actually at another place in Port Alfred right now wishing I was still at the African Safari Lodge! Aircon would be really great in the room but the weather was also a lot hotter than usual.

Host/Staff super friendly and accommodating - even tumble dried my daughters' wet clothes:) Coffee:) I am fussy with coffee though, plunger and filter my preference :)

- Klaus (10/5): Tranquil place with stunning views - The last 3,5km from the entrance gate to the lodge are pretty adventurous, but once you are there, you will enjoy stunning views of the dam and green hills. We enjoyed the tranquility - a perfect place, if you just want to relax. You can order food, which they bring to your place. But we decided for self catering, as the kitchen is fully equipped (from stove to microwave and fridge). WiFi was good and we loved the terrace for the views! Driving to the gate in the mornings we saw some antilopes, many warthogs and a herd of buffalos. Actually no complaints. The only thing was, that the chairs at the dining table on the terrace are too low to be able to eat comfortably 😅

- G (8/5): The stay at the safari was great because we were well received and felt at home. It exceeded our ex - We particularly liked the friendliness of host and staff members. The hospitality was great. Felt like home away from home. The quiet nature and tranquility of the location was perfect. An outdoor heater could have warmed the visit out at the evening braai. We however opted to stay out around the fire.
