Guest Reviews
- Ena (10/5): We loved it here, so peaceful and quiet, I love the surroundings of trees and gardens just beautiful. It rained heavily - Peaceful, quiet beautiful gardens and trees. No access at all to internet, have to go out on the road..
- Paerau (9/5): -
- Emilie (10/5): Lovely accommodation, very quiet with a refreshing pool. Very well equipped. Just perfect. - Fantastic Bures. Great location with everything you need. Very clean and comfortable.
- ALAN (9/5): Just exactly what we needed - Very relaxing situation
- Tearii Iripa Daniel (10/5): - The 🪴 plants that surrounds the property, soo quite location 😄 up in land, mostly the pool and owners Jeff and family very hospitable, the place is paradise 😀. We both liked everything, the Villa is clean, the location, suits both of us for our stay thirty days affordable.
- Esperanza (10/5): -
- Analía (9/5): Very good stay, I'll definitely come back 🥰 - Great place, quiet and safe with an amazing garden set up. Jeff was very kind, flexible with great communication. I appreciate I could do the check in at 2 am when I arrived from Christchurch with no extra charges.
There is pool which was great to cool down during the hot weather. The place is protected to avoid mosquitos coming inside and it's designed to be cold enough day and night. I appreciated the front yard under the roof with the great view.
It has everything you need in the kitchen, with the basics for cooking and extra tea towels. Mattress was super comfy, my back was happy. The bathroom super clean, good water pressure and extra towels.
Very good for the value. Recommended. It would be great to have internet included in the place, especially when it rains for the whole day. Also, the TV was kind an ornament coz just one channel was available, no Netflix, or any app. This definitely needs an upgrade 😁.
Shower switch moved from super cold to super hot as the maneuver was difficult to adjust but I managed anyway.
- CHRISTINE (4/5): Décevant - Logement neuf et très propre Pas de Wifi
Pas d'accueil
Pas d'accès pour valise à roulettes
- Fiona (10/5): - It was quiet off the beaten track of other tourist accommodation, nice pool and surrounding vegetation and grounds. Well priced had everything we needed. Private.

- Happiness (10/5): JJ's a Hidden Gem - JJ's is a Paradise Oasis, peaceful, beautiful surroundings, dip in the pool, walks throughout the amazing island gardens, beautiful night skies glistening with 100's of sparkling stars, fresh mornings a feast to the senses, a lovely overwhelming surprise, overall, so good for your general well-being, neighbours in the villa next door were young and lovely too, the 600m very short walk past local homes, welcoming 'Kia Orana' from the ever so friendly locals, cows, pigs and friendly dogs made our mornings!!
Snorkelling across the main road onto beautiful beaches, not far cafes, restaurants, Wigmore Waterfall and supermarket within walking distance, wonderful bus on main road accessible will pick you up and drop off anywhere on the main road cost NZD $5 one way $35 10x ride ticket.
We did the Aiututaki Day Tour, dined Nautilus, OTB On the Beach, Spaghetti, Antipodes, Moana Sands/Rarotongan/Edgewater Resort Restaurants, Lil G's cafe and The Hula Bar, local traditional island food (Ruko/Palusami, Taro, Bananas Ike Mata, chicken, can be sourced from Wigmores Supermarket if you miss out on the Progressive Dinner tours or Island Dance nights, make sure you book in advance.
We walked over half the island from Beachcomber Gallery to Charlies within two days, stopping to snorkel.
Our Hosts Gigi, Jeff, and family are wonderful and leave you to your own devices, they are Island Knowledgeable, we commend them for our lazy, amazing first-time Rarotonga holiday, which we will never forget, 😀 we intend to return to JJ's, we absolutely loved everything about our Awesome, Tranquil Accommodation, so good for your soul!!...Well done Jeff, Gigi & Family, their son whom we witnessed one rainy morning diligently cutting the hedge. We will recommend family, friends, and even strangers to stay at JJ's 10/10 and experience beautiful Cook Islands!!! MEITAKI ❤️ Leaving, next time we will stay for 4 weeks, 2 weeks is definitely not enough in Rarotonga.
- Tarquala (8/5): - Lovely tucked away hide gem
- Mattock (10/5): Exceptional - Private clean everything we needed. Nice pool Need to be careful on path and stairs. Sign on road...need to trim trees. Not a complaint.
- Mani (10/5): Jeff and his team are great hosts! Have awesome comms and was quick to respond to whatever was needed. Felt really well - Liked the space and the pool area. So quiet and away from everything, enjoy and relax. Nothing! Everything was beautiful.
- Leigh (8/5): Lovely place with generous nice hosts - Lovely peaceful location with beautiful gardens Missing glasses for drink of water and a lot of trouble with getting hot water consistently and unable to shower much because of it. Helpers tried hard to repair but possibly needs new gas system in
- Karauria (6/5): - Area was a nice tropical feel and look with pool, no aircon, no wifi and t.v. signal, far from main road and shops so must have tra
- Renee. (10/5): Exceptional -
- Piki (7/5): Good - Quiet and peaceful
- Yuki (8/5): So peaceful to stay here - The house was nice and clean. Staff were wonderful. It's so peaceful and quiet at night because of its location. It was hard to get the right temperature on the shower.
And I couldn't get any hot water for a couple of times. But the staff were so helpful and replaced the gas unit to fix the problem. (Many thanks to Junior and Sarah :))
It's a bit of walk from the main street. Need a car if you're gonna come home late at night. (It's a bit unsafe with scooter as the road is full of pot holes)
- Frances E (8/5): Lovely Property - Property was lovely and well appointed. It was a bit further from the beach than we thought, but we ended up getting a car for other purposes too, so it was OK. The pool was a lifesaver in the hot weather!
- Harold (8/5): - The pool was pne of the items with this hut. It is paradise on eath. You you are looking to relex and enjoy an islan get away. This is the place. You will meet the local wild life.
There is no AC just natural sea breeze.
- Malaina (8/5): Amazing. - It was nice and quiet, easy to find, had most things you needed. Need aircon and free unlimited wifi since there no reception out the back there once those are installed it would be one of the best villas to be at
- Carole (10/5): Great choice for an independent traveller. - Tranquil oasis ideal for self catering and feeling like a local. Welcoming unobtrusive hosts. Short walk to bus, beaches and local well stocked supermarket.
- John (10/5): - We arrived late, lights were on, door unlocked and Jaime had provided some eggs, bacon, bread and marmalade, knowing the shops were shut, excellent service, cannot find fault in any way. Fabulous environment, gardens, pool, private, walk to beach, furry friends - Cookie and 3 legged Harley, they were fun! Highly recommend!
- Brett Alan (10/5): - Excellent hosts and very peaceful place to be.
- Joanne (10/5): We had the BEST time with our friends. - The owners were personal, friendly and available.
- Estelle (10/5): Exceptional - The quietness.
- Johnson. (6/5): Pleasant - The gardens were really lovely. The villa was spacious and clean. Kitchen was well stocked. The pool was broken emptied after swimming in it. However this has been an issue for for some time. It is not usable and probably not safe. This should have been said at time of booking . Very deceptive. I only chose the property because it had a pool. Jason was very abrasive when I mentioned this. It was very awkward. Pool furniture also needs fixing.
I stayed for a week and was never given clean sheets or towels. Toiletries consisted of one very small piece of soap.
Dogs barking and roosters at 5 am very annoying.
- Jéssica (6/5): Pleasant - The place is beautiful, short walk to the beach,
The room Is comfy, you have some supplies in the kitchen for cooking if you want, they also provide some sunscreen/ insect repellents/books for reading and other stuff
Has a folder in the room with all the info about the island and contact.
Plus you will have a cute little paw 🐾friends to make your staying more fun (Harley and cookie) I’m a dog lover person so for me this was great ☺️ The main reason make me booked this place was because of the pool.
When we got there Jaime informed us some parts of the pool has like (holes) but still usable, she asked us just to avoid go to the part was damaged.. but we can still using the pool
For our surprise in the following day when we woke up the pool was empty, we called the property and she said the pool has a new hole and she has called the pool man to come to have a look and fixed. What disappointed us was at any moment she apologised for the situation.
The whole time we stayed there we couldn’t use the pool, I know we still have the beach as option but the weather wasn’t helping us as well as that week was so wind and the beach was pretty rough to swim.
I was having a look on the reviews and apparently I’m not the first one complaining about the pool situation.
Jaime has told us they are being trying to get a new pool since May of this year but apparently they having a problem with the shipment.
Like I said the main reason of I chose this place was the pool
I think would be nice if they could informed us before we make the booking the issue they are having with the pool or just put something saying the pool is not available on the booking site.
We paid for this … and we didn’t have it .. something could be avoided if they communicated us at the time and for sure I would book another place
So frustrating
- Peter James (8/5): - The property is very relaxing, the hosts were friendly and attentive, and we had most of what we needed in the place. We had a good and relaxing time.
- Avetonu (10/5): - Would thoroughly recommend staying at JJ's retreat. Lovely hosts (including furbabies Cookie and Harley!). Clean villa, comfortable bed, beautiful gardens and so peaceful (we even got used to the roosters!).
- Bernadette (9/5): Beautiful. If you need a quiet, secluded place to stay away from the tourist hub this is perfect! - The hosts were very friendly and accomodating to anything I needed. The gardens were tranquil and beautiful with a lovely outlook from the deck. Property is off the main road. A short walk or ride to some great snorkelling or the catch the bus. The use of the bike was very handy to get around and find my bearings. Many roosters through the night-but thats everywhere in Rarotonga!
- Graeme (10/5): Excellent, highly recommend - Excellent accommodation and wonderful hosts! Really went the extra mile to make our stay memorable.
- Reena (9/5): Beautiful place with, a friendly host - Lovely place with amazing trees around N/A
- Luc (8/5): Very good - Quiet secluded location, clean, comfortable, good bathroom, good bed. 2 friendly dogs are guarding the place. Far from the main road, so very difficult to get a phone or internet signal. Alternative is the place's wifi but you need to pay for it by purchasing credits at the local supermarket: complicated procedure at a time of most places provide free, good quality connection.
The path from the parking to the bungalows is made of volcanic stones laid in concrete: uneven, you have to watch your steps, and you have to carry up your luggage instead of just rolling it. Not sure why such a complicated and unpractical design was chosen.
- Danielle (10/5): Exceptional - Jamie and her partner were so accommodating and went out of their way for us, made us feel so welcomed and relaxed.
- Thomas (5/5): Passable - Cleanliness of room and exterior was tidy
nicely landscaped
Lush green gardens around
Bed and sheets were good The shower was either extremely hot or very cold with poor water pressure.
On arrival we were told the pool was empty. It was ripped so we didn't get to use the pool on the sunny first days of our visit. The fact we weren't told it was empty and given an option to stay elsewhere is highly frustrating. To add to this we couldn't use the laundry as that was also out of order.
The images that made the interior look appealing such as plants, bedding and nice towels also were not used. In fact the towels and flannels were old and shabby and when asked for new towels after 4 days she was very abrasive about giving more
The roosters and dogs make a lot of noise from 5am every day.
We chose the property for the pool, bikes and laundry but facilities were not there
Sadly whilst friendly initially the owner's manner changed for no apparent reason and it made it very uncomfortable to ask for anything.
Finally if you are looking for privacy we found that wasn't respected.
- Michael (8/5): Very good - Location and setting lovely Air con would have been nice
- Erin Te (10/5): - Beautiful grounds, lovely pool and has all amenities that are needed in self catering accommodation.
Friendly hosts.
- Jocelyn (10/5): A Tropical Garden Oasis in Raro! - The property is incredible! So beautiful with all the colourful trees and plants, and the bungalows are immaculate! The large ceiling fan keeps the room cool and comfortable, better than aircon! Jason and Jaime are amazing hosts, and went above and beyond to make our stay wonderful! Thank you again for everything!
- Laura (9/5): Superb - Wonderful peaceful setting nestled against mountains
- Chengjiang (10/5): Exceptional -
- Selina (10/5): - Excellent property beautiful. Hosts are fabulous. Cookie and Harley are cool also. Would reccomend.
- Darrell (10/5): Best place to stay on the island if you are after some peace and quiet - Lovely quiet location, close to the best beaches.
J & J (along with their dogs) will look after you ! Having to leave !
- Suzie (10/5): Great villa, good value, nice and cosy - Great size, and good layout, amazing host, felt welcome and comfortable 10/10 Tv only had 1 channel unfortunately
- Silvia (9/5): Superb -
- Wainui (10/5): Exceptional -
- Penelope (10/5): Awesome retreat! - This is a blissful spot, peaceful and beautiful! Hosts Jaime and Jason were so welcoming and helpful. If you want to relax and revive, this is the spot! It was great having the use of a mountain bike and the pool too. Friendly doggy hosts were a bonus! Thank you 😄
- Ingrid (10/5): Perfect place for tranquility and a time to destress :-) - An oasis. Surroundings peaceful and beautiful garden and pool. Great for a solo traveler. Safe and relaxing. Very clean and everything there to make my stay wonderful. Enjoyed the bike supplied. Close to areas I enjoyed, Rarotongan for swimming, shops 10 mins on bike and a host of beaches great for snorkeling or swimming close by. Thankyou for your wonderful hospitality. Make sure your bring your own snorkel and reef shoes and check them before you leave home. THANKYOU! NOTHING
- Lovelywild (10/5): Hidden gem in tropical paradise - We loved our stay at JJ'sRetreat! Jason & Jaime are wonderful hosts. They were so friendly and easy going and shared a lot of knowledge about the island. They have a wonderful slice of paradise in Rarotonga at JJ's Retreat. The self-contained villa had everything we needed for our 10 day stay. It was very clean and tidy, the kitchen was well equipped with cooking equipment and basic cooking ingredients such as oil, salt and pepper, and a great BBQ so we could cook our own meals. Tea/coffee/milk for the first day was provided, as was basic toiletries, but we brought most of what we needed with us from NZ or bought from the local supermarket/take away, Wigmore's, which is a short easy 10 min cycle down the road. Water in the villa is filtered for drinking. The gardens around the property are beautiful and well kept, along with the swimming pool which we enjoyed everyday! We were so lucky to be the only couple there so we had the whole place to ourselves. The property is set back from the main ring road (5 min walk) so it is very quiet and peaceful. The Raro bus will pick you up/drop you off at the main road and so it is very easy to get around without a car. JJ's is located close by to the best snorkelling on the island - Fruits of Raro to the east and Aroa to the west. The bikes provided allowed us to cycle to Aroa beach to enjoy snorkelling at our own pace. We also cycled to Wigmore's Waterfall for a swim and picnic. After adventuring every day it was wonderful to come back to our villa and enjoy our evening on the deck. The use of the washing machine was great too, and there was a phone to call local numbers to make reservations. The bed was so comfortable and the villa was kept cool by its design and the wonderful big fan above our bed! They were happy to arrange a late check out for our late flight. Jason & Jaime have thought of all the little details that make a holiday extra special. There were only 2 channels on the TV and the signal was not very good. We got a 'tourist SIM card' from Vodafone with data but we could not use it at JJ's as there was no phone signal in our villa. A short walk down the road there was signal. There is no free WIFI provided but it can be purchased using vouchers from Wigmore's supermarket.
- Montana (10/5): Thank you Jaime and Jason for providing us with the best honeymoon! - The property is so beautiful! Comfy, quiet, spacious, clean and scenic. Easy walk to the beach and down the road from The Rarotongan. This is a must-stay if you're looking for something more than just a hotel room. The pool is fantastic on those super hot afternoons too!
Hosts are so wonderful, kind and helpful.
You may want to get a car or scooter to get around quicker but the bikes are great to cruise around on and you can flag down the bus at the end of the road
Thanks Jaime and Jason again for everything! Nothing 😊
- Peter (10/5): - The peacefulness of the property was superb. Hosts, Jaime & Jason just fabulous people, couldn't do enough for us, The villas were very comfortable and as self catering, they were equipped with everything one could need. The villas were spotless. Can't say enough...
- Caroline (9/5): Superb, private place to relax - Beautifully private and tranquil. Exceptionally well kept and secluded grounds with a nice little pool. The property is a bit of a walk from the nearest shop and restaurant (about 20 minutes) but the store (Wigmores) is pretty well stocked and the restaurant (Vaima) is excellent. The cooking facilities at JJ's are more than adequate for self-catering. All in all, a great place to unwind and relax. Thoroughly recommended. If you're staying more than a couple of days, get hold of some extra loo roll as only two are provided - although I'm sure the hosts will supply more if you ask 😉
- Susan (6/5): Pleasant -
- Katherine (9/5): Superb -
- Mandy (10/5): we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and loved our wee home away from home. It was private and beautiful - Loved the rural area and the local feel. Also loved the secluded and beautiful gardens and being able to collect fruit from the trees. Our hosts were so welcoming and made our stay a pleasure. Thank you for everything
- Verified traveler (10/5): - A very nice hut with lots of amenities. The kitchen is really well equipped, they provided also some basic stuff to get you going. It's very clean and we were not so much bothered with bugs like im other places we stayed in the Cooks. It's a bit off the main road so you do get a lot of privacy and there are some beautiful gardens around.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The secluded environment was great. Felt like you are on your own. No kids policy works for us even though does not really bother us either. All essential items were provided which was good to see.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - 2 villas set in beautiful gardens with a pool, ladder access. Identical villas, 1 bedroom with kitchen, 2 hobs, microwave, fridge freezer and bathroom basin, toiket, large shower. Outside deck area with 2 loungers, 2 chairs and table outside shower. Really clean on arrival with bed made and towels 2 toilet rolls and toiletries. No cleaner or fresh towels or sheets all week which was a downside. Half hour walk to local supermarket. Bus passes end of road every half hour.
- colleen (10/5): Absolutely gorgeous place - JJ,s retreat is amazing. I honestly can’t fault this place. The grounds are outstanding. The villa is gorgeous. Super clean. Beautifully decorated. We had a blast here. Just left the property last night. It has its own swimming pool. Very quiet place. I 100% recommend this place. It was approx a 20 minute walk to the Aroa beach which is one of the best snorkelling spots on the island which has a nice fish and chip restaurant there and the dive centre and bike & car rental. It’s super close to the Rarotonga beach club & spa hotel. This location is just up a side road from the waterfront but it’s worth the walk. Very decently priced. You will benefit if you have a bike rental ($12 down the road let day) or a car. There is a bunch of fruit trees on the property that you can pick fruit from. Bananas, mandarin oranges, mangos, lemons etc.
- serena (10/5): A little paradise - We stayed for 9 nights in this wonderful corner of paradise,5 minutes walking distance from the beautiful beaches and from shops/restaurant/bars.clean and fully equipped,I recommend to stay at Jj while in Rarotonga
- Christine (10/5): Beautiful Bungalows in Paradise - We had a wonderful time at JJ's. It is a very detail oriented bungalow retreat, with a lovely yard and mountain back drop setting. We were there from June 12 - 23 2017. James and Vanessa could not have been more gracious and generous. What awesome hosts, and what an awesome place. Thanks so much!
- sal (10/5): Relaxing - This is the place to be for a very relaxing time.
Hosts are excellent. 5min walk to beach.
Outstanding facilities.
