Guest Reviews
- Susan (10/5): Exactly what I was expecting - Saw Linda as we were leaving and told her how impressed we were with the trail breakfast basket.
Comfortable bed, very clean and pleasant room which we would be happy to stay in for a week.
Highly recommended
- Edina (9/5): Cosy warm room at a perfect location with great breakfast - Great location, check-in very simple, cosy warm room, lovely breakfast hamper
- Culture37237871330 (2/5): This is no longer a hotel, but barely a sleeping hut. - This is no longer a hotel, but barely a sleeping hut.
The two nights with breakfast were booked by the organization of our tour.
There is no staff in the hotel. We didn't see anyone in those three days! Access is via a door code. The breakfast is a meager basket. The cleanliness of the room wasn't too bad, but the rest of the hotel hasn't been cleaned for a very, very long time.
- Claire (3/5): Overpriced considering there are no facilities or staff, £20 is overpriced for dog to stay, most I have paid when I have - Location No facilities
- Clark (7/5): -
- stuart (9/5): -
- Cecilia (7/5): - No a real breakfast The stairs
- Royston (8/5): - Parking close by and location plus breakfast box in room Nothing
- martyn (8/5): - Nice location, all information given was helpful. Able to check in early and leave our cases at their sister hotel near the station. Room was very small, but we booked a small room.😀
- Tineke (8/5): Prima - Privé
- robert (1/5): - Nothing This place is advertised as a hotel reviews including 2026 say the food is good .No bar or restaurant. The place is dark and dingy .I cancelled our stay with there sister hotel the Castle and was told to contact booking.com for a refund but could not get any where with there contact number It is a dirty air Bob not a nice place
- Wanderer39613145385 (10/5): well located, slightly quirky hotel. - We had a lovely stay in this well located, slightly quirky hotel. The room was very comfortable, the breakfast hamper was superb. Self check-in was easy. It's a same the ground floor cafe is currently closed, but we did use the tables in there to eat the breakfast (nothing to say this was disallowed!). Lots of great places to eat within a few steps of the hotel. We would certainly use this place again.
- Colin (7/5): It is as if the life has gone out of the place - It's a great old historical hotel, in an ideal location. We have stayed there a number of times before. There are no staff there now, and the restaurant is no longer a restaurant. Entry is self-service, as we realised, but I had not anticipated the deserted, empty feeling with no staff there to welcome, and no place to eat. When you think of all the bustling life that has taken place there since it was an 18th Century (?) coach house, it is all very sad. I can understand that whoever the owners are have probably had to make cuts, but I am not sure i will be booking to stay there again. It is as if the life has gone out of the place..
- Fin (7/5): Fully self-checkin, great shower and comfy bed, no complaints! - They were reliable about bike storage which was really appreciated, plus the shower was great which was very welcome after a long day cycling! There was a breakfast hamper which looked good. The hotel is essentially staff-less, which is a little jarring and means no one is immediately on hand should you need them... but communication was very good via phone and they were quick to answer questions/sort issues. Vegan bits for the breakfast hamper would have been great but niche so very understandable:)
- Navigator46118745664 (4/5): One to avoid - I had booked this hotel months before I visited, they had a restaurant when I booked part of why I decided to book it because of the reviews. Big scores for the breakfast but by the time we visited no restaurant no cooked breakfast, just a ‘hamper’ with limited breakfast options, not enough to make up for the lack of a cooked breakfast, no staff no bar, the radiator in the room was off although the one in the bathroom was in meltdown mode. It reminded me of the hotel in The Shinning, you can’t park outside the hotel unless you have a timed disc, the car park at the bottom of the road is free, but limited to 24 hours max, no return within 4 hours, which is no good if you are staying for more than one night, poor experience will not use the hotel again
- ines clara (9/5): - Amazing surprise with the generously filled breakfast hamper and fridge: fresh fruit, milk and yoghurt, juice, croissants and more!
- Nomed (9/5): Pleasant stay in Berwick - The size of the room, t was quiet, central. Very close tonthe river dir noce walk along the river or the wall. The breakfast was simple but great. One of the ladies we met was very helpful directing us to Castle hotel to leave our bags for the afternoon. We found a pillow case on the side table. There was a bit of dust but nothing too back. My mattress wasn't very comfortable but it was just for 1 noght
- John (8/5): -
- Dawn (10/5): - Location, size of the room, everything you need, nice breakfast hamper and a great shower!
- Zoe (8/5): - Location and room Its just a room for the price self service felt alot

- Julie (7/5): Everything was fine for a few days stay - Comfortable and in a good location
- Matthew (8/5): -
- Lorraine (10/5): -
- Bryan (8/5): It was fine but the absence of staff is the problem - No breakfast The absence of staff
- Alison (8/5): Great location. Comfortable room. - location is perfect
information provided in advance excellent
room very spacious, clean and comfortable. Good shower
good idea to have the breakfast basket only downside was the fridge in our room was very noisy so we had to switch off overnight
A bit impersonal with no staff onsite
no wifi password information. I texted but we'd left by the time I got the answer
- David Equality (8/5): Different but pleasant! - Lovely room, small but cosy and everything there that was needed.
Good location and decent price. Found it odd that there wasn’t someone there to greet guests. I have stayed at similar places but not one where you walk through a dark empty bar/restaurant to get to the room. Found that a bit strange and quite trusting of the owners.
- Peter (10/5): - The owner / manager lovely lady very chatty made me feel very welcome.facilities and location were excellent.will be back
- vera (10/5): -
- Anne Moar (10/5): The Queen's Head, Berwick-Upon-Tweed - The location, close to access of the rampart walls and places to eat, was perfect.
Linda and Sandra, who do the housekeeping, gave us valuable tips and history. Super friendly locals 🥰 Not being able to just park the car and leave it for the entire visit. However, the information given before booking in re parking was accurate and useful.
- Amy (7/5): - Breakfast bundle was a good idea however croissants were out of date and milk given was not enough for cereal and hot drinks
- Francesco (8/5): All in all, reasonably priced and decent. - It was in a good position and the room was nice and warm. The staff were very nice. Maybe could have done with a couple extra pillows.
- Paul (8/5): -
- Andrea (8/5): -
- Sharon (8/5): -
- vera (10/5): -
- James (7/5): A great restaurant, but not a very pleasant place to stay in. - Fantastic restaurant, staff and food. Excellent breakfast options. The access to the room, up narrow stairs carrying a heavy case. Not ideal for the elderly. Should be made clear when booking.
Room not really suitable for spending much time in.
- Mark (8/5): 28 years later - Charming, patrons of a generic Marriot hotel beware. Noisey neighbours. To be fair, drunk Millennials. Fridge needs switching off.
- Stephen (8/5): A nice hotel at the end of town - The hotel was situated in the bottom end of the town by the harbour Nothing
- Daniel (2/5): Was cheap but not good. Would not stay again - Location and parking were convenient Self check in. No staff around at all. Filthy carpets. Mattress was heavily bowed, needed replacing years ago.
- Emma Allinson (1/5): Freezing room with almost uncontactable staff - The location was good
Free breakfast but the items were random. Like jam and a plate but no bread? - so cold I had to wear a coat to bed since the heater never came on
- staff were very difficult to get a hold of. I had to call multiple times just to ask for the code for the door.
- housekeeping left my door open so all my belongings were at risk while I was away.
- the TV was right next to the bathroom so steam immediatly gathered on it when the bathroom door was opened after a hot shower.
- The rooms were really dark
Overall awful. Not at all worth the money. Would've been warmer sleeping on a bench.
- Alessandra (10/5): -
- PAUL (7/5): -
- Gary (7/5): Ni e - Contental provided so we went out for breakfast Had problems gaining access through the front door no one around to help
- Sorokolyetov (9/5): - Всё было хорошо. Всё соответствует описанию про отель. Нам понравилось.
- kenny (6/5): Ok for the price - Clean, great location, warm, powerful shower and cheap The room is small and the mattress needs replaced! Unfortunately I won't be back as due to this.
- Zuzana (9/5): Pleasant and cosy room with very friendly staff - It was nice and central we enjoyed the spacious cosy and mostly warm room and excellent staff Linda and Sandra who were so helpful and friendly. Thank you In the night it was touch cold at times but all right. It might have been because it was 0 C.
- Graeme (7/5): -
- Penny (7/5): -
- Dixon (7/5): - The location was fab and the room was clean and comfortable 👌 The keypad lock 🔐 took about 10 minutes to get the key. I also wasn't a fan of the no staff to greet or bar at location.
- Brooke (8/5): -
- Kathleen (7/5): Close to lovely restaurant limoncello and local shops. Great location with a nearby free car park - Wasn’t expecting a breakfast hamper and toiletries for the price we pard so that was really good. Stairs were just a bit difficult for my elderly dad but rooms were big and comfy
- Avril (6/5): -
- Lesley (2/5): - The bed was comfy! Everything to be honest! This "hotel" shouldn't really be bookable! When we arrived it took 3 phone calls to be let into the property, when we did get in it was cold, unwelcoming and dark! The reception area was closed as was the restaurant! On our way up to our room the lights only go on when you pass through, visibility was poor! The breakfast option wasn't good , 2 little oranges, 2 pre packed croissants and 2 yogurts, oh a little amount of granola! We were only informed the breakfast option had changed a short time before we arrived! I feel this establishment is on the point of closing, and they are trying to get much as money in before it does ! So disappointed and let down, please be cautious before Yiu book this 😞😞😞😞
- K2420WKdereks (8/5): Quiet, clean and cold - The hotel is unmanned but we felt very safe. The room was clean and well presented. Breakfast hamer was enough. Shower was great and refreshing. Only down side was that the cold snap and heating on a timer made the room cold at night. Metvthe domestic staff in the morning, two lovely ladies with pride in their work.
- panfili (3/5): - It was central. Self check in was fine but not aware not manned. False information on booking.com. No bar and no restaurant. This is not a hotel. Nobody else there on Thursday. Felt weird being the only people there. Very overpriced for what you get. Felt almost like the place was about to be shut down. Breakfast hamper basic. Few things renewed next day but milk was off. No more coffee added. Towels not changed. Shower not clean. People talking bad in the town about the lack of service. I would like to ask for a refund. I would not have booked this if I had known all of this.
- Jane (8/5): -
- Catherine (10/5): Berwick short stay - The hotel was very conveniently situated and a short walk from the station. Self check in was smooth and we were able to drop our bags off prior to check in. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the breakfast hampers were well stocked with a good choice of items. I would recommend this hotel for anyone visiting the Berwick area.
- Anne (3/5): - Bed was comfortable We booked expecting a cooked breakfast but was given a very poor hamper in the room. There was no staff in the building.
- Robert (5/5): No People - Location Having to have a Mobile Phone. Lack of People.
- paul (7/5): -
- Laurence (8/5): Nice place in Berwick - Nice little hotel that is basically a B&B. No one staffs the front desk -- you enter with a door code that is sent by the hotel. System worked fine. Hotel is in a good location, near the water and the wall, about 12-15 min from the railway station. Breakfast was fine, although not stellar. Room and dining area were clean. We would stay there again.
- B.G (8/5): -
- Smith (9/5): - Booked at short notice whilst on a bike/camping tour. Access to the property was easy and I was also permitted to take my bike to my room for secure storage. The room was spacious, clean and the beds were very comfortable. The shower was spot on (and much needed). Breakfast was superb! Really set me up for the day. I'd highly recommend it! Honestly couldn't fault my stay.
- David (7/5): -
- Elizabeth (10/5): - The service and the facilities of the room are outstanding comfortable bed.
The breakfast was amazing freshly cooked by heather who also takes your order.
Good choice of cereal, fresh fruit yoghurt and toast.
Then to follow a full cooked breakfast
- Tina (5/5): Nothing outstanding, breakfast ok, room ok, just did not like use of keypads - Close to amenities Self check in. Key pads situated in dark corners too high up
- Rebecca (10/5): Lovely! - Lovely & cosy rooms, with comfy beds and good sized bathrooms.
- Theparath (8/5): -
- Shane (4/5): - The hotel was very well worn. The carpets were stained and looked filthy. The smell was very stale and old.
- Elliott (7/5): - The area and the lady staff member was lovely. She went above and beyond by making me scrambled eggs instead of fried when I asked,. The floor was very uneven which meant the room effectively ran downhill quite markedly, this was not helpful to my friend who is in his 80s.
- susan (10/5): Quiet location. - Quiet location for a city centre. Breskfast was lovely, thank you Heather.
- louisei454 (4/5): An un-staffed B&B, not a hotel, stay somewhere else. - We booked a couple of months before our visit and their website showed a nice cozy hotel with restaurant. When we arrived at 4pm we found the hotel to be closed despite their terms saying that check-in was from 2pm and Google said 3pm. We returned at 6pm and found it still closed. We found a phone number and the person who answered said we should have received a text with an access code and they apologised for not sending it. The place was deserted and there was no restaurant.
At £132 per night we had paid hotel prices for an un-staffed bed &breakfast and we really wished that we had stayed in the Premier Inn next door.
The only redeeming feature of this accommodation was a reasonable breakfast.
- Whitworth (5/5): Disappointing - Friendly staff, good location, good breakfast Small, dark room with dusty lamp fittings
- Neil (8/5): It was different as you checked in electronically. - Breakfast was excellent A staff memeber being in the hotel.
- richard (7/5): Ideal stop over - Quaint, lovely breakfast served by lovely staff.
- Margaret (7/5): -
- FUTLaboratory (10/5): -
- Diane (8/5): - It was a little bizarre to ‘check yourself in’ to a hotel and I’m sure in the winter months it might feel even more strange BUT everything had been thought about. The room was clean and well equipped, comfortable bed and breakfast was delicious. Communication by text told you everything you needed to know ….a very nice stay
- Mair (7/5): Good value.convenient for town - Convenient location. Good breakfast. Self check in. Staff only present for breakfast. No food during day or evening.
- Deetours (7/5): Good overnight stop. - Good location, clean and comfortable with a nice breakfast. I don't like the self-check-in puzzles that seem to becoming all the rage hereabouts.
- PAUL (1/5): Totally disappointed and miss sold completely - we have always been loyal to booking.com but feel we deserve a refund after being sold The Queens Head hotel in Berwick Upon Tweed Nothing like you advertised no reception only key pad on front door and again to get in our room No restaurant or bar basic breakfast and dark and neglected Long walk for two 76 years old with two cases as advertised close to station which was totally misleading Hate other people to book this as it was over two hundred pounds
- Whaley (10/5): Worked for our group of four all in single rooms - Functional and well located
- Edwin (10/5): Gastvrij - Personeel en eten Niets
- Bernd (8/5): - Sehr gut - Jederzeit wieder
- Elaine (8/5): - Nice modern bright room with everything in it, would have liked a
- Kathleen (4/5): Not what I believed i had booked. - The breakfast the wee lady in the kitchen can cook a great breakfast. Walking into a very poorly lit property absolutely no staff until the following morning where a lady comes to the hotel to set it up. Arrived expecting a restaurant and a bar in the property but no apparently that's another 15min walk to the sister hotel . Also room 4 awful slope in the room bed was comfy though. The lights are motion sensors so going up the steep narrow stairs was challenging and had to use my phone torch to see the lockbox keypad .Then met with a step at the entrance to the room . Get the feeling the company that run this don't care about the customers and all about the money.
- Marge (6/5): Hotel was overrated and greatly overpriced! We would not stay there again. - Central location. Excellent breakfast. It was vastly overpriced! Not more than a 2 star hotel. Water was hot and beds were comfortable but hall and stair carpets were dirty, shower door broken. The keyless entry system of pushing buttons from a code was TERRIBLE! Very difficult especially in the dark!
- Garry (9/5): Had a good night sleep and the breakfast was really nice - The property was self check in that was easy All good
- Geoff S (8/5): Close to the main restaurants and bars. - Good breakfast. Close to the main restaurants and bars.
- Lindsey (9/5): -
- craig (10/5): Very well run establishment that I will return to. - Staff in cafe/reception was very helpful. I paid £80 after genius discount which I thought was a perfect price for the twin room to myself. So comfortable I didn’t venture out too much. Breakfast was best I had all week. I will be back. No potato scone as stated on the menu. I was looking forward to that.
- Graham (6/5): - Nobody to greet you during stay. Seemed to have reduced staff to absolute minimum. Breakfast was overcooked.
- Lindsay (8/5): Lovely end to a cracking holiday - Lovely location, charming staff and a warm welcome, great breakfast Room was a bit dated for the price
- Jacqueline (10/5): Lovely hotel, great value for money - Lovely little hotel, room was clean and comfortable. Self check in was easy. Full English breakfast was lovely. Free parking close by too
- Lee (10/5): - Great night sleep
- Yvonne (8/5): - Pleasant nights stay
Thank you and breakfast was great
