Guest Reviews
- Kim (8/5): - We had a lovely 1 night’s stay in this charming old inn, built in the early 1600’s. The staff made us feel welcome and served up a delicious full English breakfast in the morning.
- Adam (10/5): Gingerdude - Great stay in lovely sleep town. Fantastic to see a English town thriving.
- Peter (8/5): - The room (double with ensuite) was comfortable and clean. The price was excellent especially as it included breakfast.
Would I return? A definite yes.
- Christine (8/5): - We had a lovely long weekend at the crown hotel. The food was good. Long melford was really nice. The staff were helpful and friendly!
- Kirsty (8/5): - The ‘luxury toiletries’ were not sadly. No conditioner and tiny. Shower was very tempee
- Charlotte (10/5): - The propertys owner helped me book breakfast, which was beautiful, when we arrived, helped me with my belongings, the room was lovely and big, it's a beautiful town with affordable Uber transport
- Lawrence (8/5): - Great for the price, only one criticism the WIfi wasn’t up to much.
- Christine (8/5): Nice hotel for a night or two. - The Crown is an old hotel right on the main street of Long Melford. The menu looked great but we ended up eating at The Bull Pub across the street be ause it was less expensive. The room was clean. The en-suite bathroom was up a couple of steps from the bedroom. There was a very heavy double door at the top of the stairs whiywas tricky with luggage. The staff very fryand helpful. Lovely breakfast.
- Mark (6/5): Tired - Pros- friendly staff and excellent food.
Cons - bed was terrible the most uncomfortable I’ve ever been.
Road noise as single glazed windows
- David (10/5): - Old world pub with contemporary basic rooms
- Georgina (10/5): - Great find for a place to stay right in the centre of things. Clean room, friendly staff and great breakfast !
- Lisa (10/5): - The hotel and staff were lovely, very welcoming. Our room was clean and well presented. Breakfast was delicious with excellent service. We’ll definitely be back.
- Charles (8/5): Very good pub - Nice hotel /pub - enjoyed staying there. It’s a bit tatty in places but clean and comfortable. Fires in the bars, good restaurant, nice friendly people.
- Ross (10/5): - Excellent food
- Debbie (8/5): Good food but a bit lacking in other areas - Bedroom clean but tired furniture. Bit lacking as no tissues or water in the room. Shower was temperamental and there was no where to put shampoo or shower gel. The toilet roll holder had been badly fixed so that it sloped down and the toilet roll kept fallling off it. Tiny little shelf and no where to put toilet bags etc. The room we had was at the back up a steep set of metal stairs. The parking was only big enough for 3 cars which meant the only other option was on the street outside. The building opposite the room had a very bright light that shone through the blinds lighting up the room. The walls were very thin because we heard the people next door using the shower at about 7.00am and the we heard the cleaner making up the room soon afterwards. Very few staff and the bar staff seemed to be waiting to lock up even though it was only 10.30pm. Breakfast is cooked to order and was very nice but there was no cold buffet and no marmelade or jams unless you asked for them.Only one person working at breakfast and was run off his feet, possibly they have more usually. For a Saturday night the bar and restaurant were very quiet. Food however was very good.
- Steven (10/5): - Excellent food in evening and breakfast
- Edwina (8/5): Not bad - The room was very clean and the bed comfortable. There was a light on 24/7 in a building opposite and couldn’t shut the blinds enough to cut it out, so found a bit hard to get to sleep. Overall not bad for the price except had a 30 minute wait for dinner on Friday. But food was good so made up for it.
The bathroom however a few rusty bits and the toilet seat certainly didn’t fit the toilet!!
- Susan (10/5): - Spent two nights at The Crown. Friendly, helpful staff serving very good quality food. Accommodation is comfortable, warm and clean in the tradition of an old coaching inn. Would definitely recommend this hotel if you're visiting the beautiful Long Melford.
- Stephen (10/5): - Staff were really friendly and helpful.. Rooms were very neat and clean.. The breakfast was top quality... we will definitely be back.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Warm and comfortable - Booked at short notice. We had a double room on first floor of annexe behind the pub. The room was warm and clean. The stairs became icy in sub zero temperatures but OK if careful although gritting/salt might have been beneficial. Breakfast was cooked to order and was tasty. Door to ensuite wouldn't close properly but this could be easily remedied so it fitted the frame. Shower was good and hot. Staff friendly.
- Jonathan (8/5): Nice pub. - The crown was a lovely pub and the accommodation is comfortable I would recommend to others to stay here definitely.
- JOWGOW PTY LTD John (10/5): - Best value for money hotel i have stayed in.
- Braham (10/5): Great place to stay - I stayed there twice in the past couple of weeks and I found the place very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant served some tasty food and the service was excellent. The breakfast was good too. I will certainly come back if I am in the area.
- Braham (10/5): Pleasant stay - Great place to stay with very attentive and friendly staff
- Matthew (10/5): - Fantastic staff, very clean rooms, great area to eat. Would definitely recommend!
- Andrew (10/5): - Lovely stay. Large clean room at the back of the hotel, bed comfy, shower was great, and full English breakfast was honestly the best I've had in a long time (quality ingredients) . Definitely would come again.
- elizabeth (10/5): - Very nice plsce
- Rich (10/5): - Good stay, clean and very comfortable
- Sally (6/5): - Nice location, friendly staff, large room f
- Donna (10/5): - Breakfast great, seeing it was inc in the price.may be a little dark letting ourselves back in,arfter dark. Garden large, with sun or shade options.
- Lesley (8/5): - Great restaurant. Good location. Helpful staff.
- Wayne (10/5): 3 night stay at the Crown Hotel - Very nice stay, comfortable room and nice cooked breakfast each day.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Room -
We stayed in a room in an anexe at the back of the main hotel. Room 16
The mattress creaked and squeezed when you sat on it, moved or turned which meant myself and my husband both had a poor nights sleep.
The shower door didn't close fully at the bottom so the bathroom floor and bath mat got wet.
Breakfast was ok but not massive.
- Susan (10/5): - Beautiful old building, very nice personnel and the village was lovely.
Absolutely nothing negative to report.
- Michelle (6/5): Bed not good - Breakfast and staff was lovely,
room was ok could do with a bit more dusting done , also the bed was very squeaky kept us awake most of the night , every time we moved was not the best night sleep
Overall good location
- Benjamin (8/5): - Accommodation was bright, clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and polite. My only issue was the WiFi, I was in accommodation in a building detached from the main inn building. The WiFi was almost non-existent - as I was staying on business I rely on WiFi for the duration of my stay. It would be beneficial if the main building WiFi is extended to all accommodation.
Otherwise the stay was very pleasant.
- Michael (8/5): - I was surprised how busy the road is through Long Melford - constant traffic - but in fact one does not hear it when inside the hotel. Staff friendly and helpful and the dinner and breakfast service was quick and the meals nicely prepared and presented.
Very comfortable bed and I slept well. All I would mention is that the knob on the room's yale lock is incomplete and can be difficult to turn.
Thank you.
- David (10/5): Excellent Experience - Excellent check in experience quick and easy with no dramas. Very comfortable bar with a good friendly atmosphere. Breakfast was a full English which was delivered quickly, hot and fresh to the table.
- Nicola (8/5): - Perfect for my one night stop. Basic room was all I needed and it was clean comfortable and warm. Located in a beautiful village with loads of attractions nearby (unfortunately I was there for work so didn't get time to explore! )
- Craig (8/5): - Nice friendly staff and a nice village
- Craig (8/5): Craig - All good, friendly staff and nice area.
- Robin (8/5): Great stay other than the mattress - We had a super stay. Everything was great in terms of the food and service. Our only issue was a poor nights sleep due to a relatively thin mattress. It’s definitely well overdue for replacing as we could feel every spring! May just be room 2, so with asking for a different one.
- Louisa (10/5): 100% recommend - Stayed for 1 night and it was excellent! We all enjoyed our stay, we left before breakfast so can’t review that. But we will keep this hotel in mind for the next time we are over that way again!
- Robert (8/5): An overnight at Long Melford - Very good stay . Helpful and cheerful staff . Very limited parking with on street parking an option. Good evening meal and breakfast. Cleanliness exceptional. Wouldn't hesitate to stay there again
- Steven (10/5): - The hosts were very polite and efficient, the breakfast was really nice and the room was clean and comfortable.
- Robyn (6/5): - Adequate hotel for one night, but steep stairs with heavy fire door at top of stairs made access difficult with bags. Wifi did not seem to work the whole time we were there, despite management supposedly resetting router
- JACQUELINE (10/5): - Excellent customer service nice breakfasts.we stayed as a couple for a family wedding check in was very efficient and was shown to a very nice large room.we they booked us a table for an evening meal and the service was very good.
- Brian (8/5): Brian and Esma Ireland - Enjoyed stay very comfortable and food very good
- STEPHEN W (8/5): - Two night stay for a cycle event.
Clean and comfortable room and a shower that worked properly!
Friendly and efficient service and good food.
Ticked all my required boxes.
- ian (10/5): 2 night business trip - Hotel in very nice area. Comfortable room reasonably priced. Excellent food plenty of choice. Excellent service.
- Stephen (10/5): Superb hotel on the Main Street if Banff - Check-in was nice and easy, room spotless, comfortable and big. Parking was better than I had expected. There was plenty of spaces. Restaurant was really good, nice food
- Colin (10/5): The Crown Hotel Long Melford - Pleasant welcome. Clean room. Great food and beer. Friendly staff .
Would definitely stay here again. 5☆
- lee (10/5): Great - Great place friendly staff and good food will defanatly return
- Julia (10/5): What a gem of a place! - It was a lovely surprise arriving at The Crown Inn because the inital photo you see when booking on the hotels.com website does not in my opinion, do it justice. What an absolute gem of a place in a beautiful location. A lovely welcome on arrival by the owner/manager, fantastic evening meal, great selections of wines (as well as a full bar) and the room was fantastic. Pretty much all of the lovely town of Long Melford is on the main road but it's very quite and road noise was certainly not an issue. A fantastic evening, great nights sleep, all topped off with a wonderful breakfast.
- Barney (10/5): - Excellent one night stay engaging host
- Anna (10/5): Historic Inn with lots of character - The Crown is a quirky, olde worlde inn, dating back to the 17th century, with lots of character. We had a standard room - it had a lovely bathroom, and a wonderfully comfortable bed. The dining room is very characterful. and the breakfast was good. There's a big garden. Easy to park in the street outside - no restrictions.
- bryan (10/5): Overnight stay - Facilities and service excellent. Both meals - breakfast and dinner extremely tasty and good value
- Trevor (10/5): Fantastic place for a stay - Lovely place to stay; we will definitely be going back. Breakfast was delicious too!
- richard (8/5): - Great Value, very friendly staff and nice breakfast. Wfi in room was poor, otherwise excellent. Thanks.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Recommend - Very comfortable and warm.
- Mark (10/5): - Very nice friendly helpful staff. Great breakfast. All good.
- R (8/5): - Cheap and cheerful. Good full English breakfast included.
- Stephen (10/5): Crown - Made very welcome
- Robert (8/5): No Issues!!! - No issues!!!
- Craig (6/5): Characterful but showing it’s age - The hotel is a bit tired and was in need of refreshing n several areas. The cleanliness was not brilliant. Odd bits of food under tables from night before when down for breakfast. Dust in rooms. Shower was hit and miss which maybe due to others using the water supply. Also Wi-Fi in room was very poor and we advised if we had said we wanted Wi-Fi they would have given another room. It does not state selected rooms. We did no eat any other meals or drinks so cannot comment.
- Deepa (6/5): - The general helpfulness of the one person of staff I interacted with was good.
Unfortunately the property is dated and needs a lot of sprucing up. I stayed in room 8. It was like a dorm room, not a 3 star hotel. The room needs a good and thorough clean and a full refresh of the decor. Carpets were gross and need replacing. Bathroom was not cleaned very well, and toilet was particularly bad. Shower cubicle was very small.
Breakfast was good but the one person they had for staff was very busy.
Sadly wouldn’t stay at this hotel again unless it was renovated to resemble a 3 star offer.
- Margaret (8/5): - Good food, friendly staff, warm but room was a bit plain
- Linda (10/5): - We had a very enjoyable overnight stay here. Our room and the public areas were warm and comfortable. The evening meal and breakfast were generous and tasty. We would happily stay here again.
- Sarah (8/5): - The pub/restaurant was busy on check-in which was a good sign, our room was huge, but very very hot, so all windows were opened, better to be too hot than too cold though, the food in the evening was lovely and so was the breakfast, the staff were all very pleasant and polite, the whole stay was a lovely, it made my Birthday weekend great.
- Robert (8/5): Crown hotel - Staff friendly, service excellent furniture a bit tired food excellent
- Anna (10/5): - Nice family set of double room adjoining twin room with shared front door and individual bedroom doors, very comfortable and clean, spotless bathrooms. Comfortable beds, we slept very well. Staff very helpful and friendly, great choice of items for breakfast. Will definitely be back as we visit this area annually.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Hotel in Long Melford - Restaurant is good and so is the breakfast. Good beer choice. Beds not very comfortable. Street parking was free.
- DJ (10/5): Comfortable accommodation in beautiful village - Easy to locate on the main street. Quiet room in the annexe. Spacious bedroom, lots of wardrobe space, no bath, just a shower in the bathroom.
- Karen (8/5): - Friendly staff, food deliciius..we had dinner and breakfast...both superb.
As expected for it's age, a little worn looking, creaky.
Tiny car park but plenty of free parking right outside.
Room was a bit dusty .. but generous on the refreshment tray and toiletries fronts.
Slept well.
- David (8/5): Four out of five aint bad. - Well managed. Hotel which delivered a very good service and enhanced our stay in the area. Breakfast was excellent on both days and dinner was good. The hotel was locked up at about 9 pm which was a little surprising but a key was provided for access.
- Marilyn (10/5): - Amazing customer service - staff excelled themselves.
Food good too. Nice garden.
- Lorna (8/5): Good stop for a mini break. - The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bedroom was basic but roomy enough and clean.
Big bathroom and shower. Lovely courtyard to eat and drink in. Good location. Parking was free around the hotel.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were very helpful, accommodating me at very short notice and providing good, attentive table service during the evening. The room I got was very large and well-appointed. The breakfast service was excellent. My only (minor) gripe was that the road noise prevented me from leaving the window open on a hot, humid night - my room in the accommodation block was nearest the road, so perhaps other rooms are quieter.
