Guest Reviews
- Edward-Martine (1/5): - Niets. Behalve het ontbijt. Degene die het ontbijt serveerde was erg vriendelijk. Alles viel tegen. We hadden de luxe 2 persoonskamer geboekt maar kwamen terecht in een bijgebouw wat ongelooflijk smerig was. Bijna alles was kapot. Toiletdeur ging niet dicht, omdat de vloer kapot was. De voordeur sloot niet. Er stond een pan vol schimmel. De verlichting in badkamer was ronduit onveilig.
- sandra (3/5): Poor - Breakfast was good Old tired dirty .. Traffic noise could do with double glazing might help a bit ..

- Paul (7/5): Friendly budget B & B - Location straight off the A1 is convenient, but see below. Parking was good. The room was a decent size with a very good TV. The hosts were friendly and accommodating. The cooked breakfast was very good, but see below. Really nice touch having a fridge in the room with beers, wine and soft drinks for sale. The bed was impressively comfortable and the room was warm. The overall price was very good, reflective in what you got. We did have a few problems. Firstly noise; although this is an old coaching inn and sound proofing was not expected to be great, we did have a problem with another guest who played music till 3.45am and then started up again at 5am. To prevent this a notice within the rooms asking guests for a bit of quiet between 11pm and 6am might be helpful. There was noise from the road, but this was far less of a problem and to be expected considering the location. Secondly the shower was mainly cold with the odd burst of warm water. Thirdly the fresh orange juice was on the turn to the point of actually being 'fizzy' and some of the fresh fruit was mouldy. Lastly the mugs and spoons had been used and not cleaned in the room. I'm sure the hosts would have been happy to sort this out if asked. A further note to prospective guests; this road is a ninety degree turn straight off a 70mph road. I would recommend slowing down and putting hazards on just before turning off.
- Mic (9/5): Beautiful 300 year old house very friendly landlady and comfy bed - Was easy to find straight off the A1, is in great condition for a 300 year old building, Landlady was very warm and welcoming even made me a bacon sandwich to go in the morning even though it was before breakfast time would stay again no problem, bed was really comfy
- Micky "G" (4/5): Convenient no thrills. - Convenient for a stop over while heading south on the A1. Secure parking for my motorcycle, although not under cover. Room window (Room 2) was fixed open, maybe broken, so sound of traffic was constant throughout the night.
- tina (10/5): -
- James (7/5): - Just to close to the A1 so lots of traffic noise.
- Anthony (7/5): - Good value for money. Very friendly staff/ owners. Water not very good for shower. Freezing cold for ages then eventually slightly warm. This was the only negative of the stay
- Janet (6/5): -
- Tracey (9/5): Great night, superb hosts and friendly charm - The hosts were really lovely and friendly.
Breakfast was outstanding and you were perfect hosts, and nice to meet you all as we chatted in the kitchen.
We were expecting two rooms but ended up in a little cottage with 2 bedrooms, cooker, fridge etc. Some light sleepers might think it is too close to the A1, but we didn't.
Also, if you're expecting a posh hotel, this isn't for you. But if you want a clean, warm, friendly room from a lovely family (a home from home) then this place is great.
- Simon (8/5): Friendly staff and good food - Stop off on way to lakes Traffic noise was noticeable during the night
- Straus (3/5): - The breakfast was fine, and the owner very welcoming. As the building is adjacent to the A1 road I expected some road noise, but it was excessively loud in the room, making in extremely difficult to sleep - I could see daylight around the window edges, and these gaps allowed me to hear every vehicle that passed, not something you want when trying to sleep.
- Christine (7/5): Pleasant - Convenient location and friendly hosts The shower did not work properly- temperature control broken.
- Wolfie868 (7/5): A good value stopover, with decent breakfast and a wonderful host. - It's a lovely old building right next to the A1. Carol, the host is worth the visit itself. She was great to meet and has a lovely charactor and has a brilliant life story to share. The breakfast was really good too, and the stay was certainly value for money.
The room was perfectly sufficient for a stayover, but you have to keep expectations aligned to the cost of the stay. You can hear the A1 traffic through the night, although it was not loud enough to wake me.
- Barry (9/5): - Very welcoming, friendly and excellent food.
- david (5/5): - It was cold and noisy because it was next to the A1 the interior was very dated but fairly clean and any shortfalls were reflected in the low price

- Braithwaite (8/5): A delightful 2 nights (Mon and Fri) Thank you - Some comments I’ve seen suggest that the property is a little tired, but it is in fact full of character. The lady owner and her staff were very pleasant and helpful and the food, breakfast and evening meal on both occasions was delicious and my wife says it was the best fruit salad she had ever had. unfortunately no lift. We stayed a night on 2 occasions last week and although I have reduced mobility we coped with the stairs ok
- lisa (10/5): -
- Richard (8/5): -
- Louise (8/5): - Pet friendly, good value for money
- Alan (10/5): - Friendly staff, good location, huge warm room, comfortable bed, large TV and bathroom, mini bar.
- Eileen (10/5): Excellent value, clean warm house, friendly staff and decent breakfast. - Breakfast was very good, with a good choice of hot and cold food. It is an old house with a lot of history, a bit tired but the upkeep of a place like this must be costly. The house was warm and the room was large and comfortable, even had an electric blanket on the bed. The staff were friendly and helpful and very welcoming. Excellent value for money, would definitely stay again Getting across the A1 to continue journey north can be hair raising, so we turned left out of car park and followed road round and picked up A1 a bit further down. Added about 10 minutes to journey so no problem.
- Janine (5/5): -
- Katherine (7/5): - Accommodation generally
- Caroline (8/5): - Excellent hospitality. Very welcoming with lovely breakfast. Being on top of the A1 Very noisy for sleeping.
- Ophelia (8/5): Home from home, lovely welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Perfect - Beautiful period place
- DIANA (8/5): -
- Eileen (8/5): Very good value , with friendly staff, ,very clean and good breakfast - Very friendly staff and a good breakfast. Very clean. Even with two electric heaters it was a little chilly in the cottage.
- Phoebe (9/5): -
- Diane (3/5): Never again! - The bed was comfy and the bedding was clean. There was no extra charge for the dog. It was very cold - my stay was 13th/14th December! A lot of the cottage was dirty. Obvious surfaces were clean but corners were full of dust. Inside cupboards was very dirty and a door was hanging off. The bathroom sink had a large crack in it. The sealant around the bath and floor had failed/was moldy/was peeling off. There was no fuel for the woodburner. The boiler for hot water and central heating was not turned on. I had been left with a small oil filled radiator downstairs and a hot air blower in the bedroom. When I got the boiler to work in the evening it had stopped working by the morning so no hot water to have a wash or shower. A part-used and out of date bottle of milk was in the fridge. The tv remote control would only change channels with the 'down' button on arrival and wouldn't work at all in the morning. The towels were clean but damp.
- craig (10/5): - Amazing place 10 out of 10 just doesn't do this place justice stayed for 6 weeks ish, definitely stay again if I'm working in this area
- katrina (8/5): A pleasant stay. - Breakfast was delicious and there was plenty of choices even if you didn't want a cooked breakfast. A problem was that there was no hot water, when we mentioned this the proprietor he explained and we were offered another room to use hot water.
It would be best mentioned that if you wanted something to eat later that it would be quite a drive into Stamford then nearest town.
- Roxanne (8/5): Good location - Spacious room Not well soundproofed. Lots of noise from road and crying baby in next room

Breakfast was lovely
Was allowed to change me EV which was appreciated Road noise

- paul (8/5): Slept well, nice hosts, good breakfast, rooms a bit dated - Hosts were very nice, excellent breakfast, served very quickly Room was very dated and shower in room 5 was not the best.
- Jerry (9/5): - The host was brilliant told us we're we could get our evening meal from. Very helpful. Nothing to report.
- Rebecca (9/5): - Spacious room great breakfast
- Andrew (8/5): - The landlady was very flexible when I turned up late Nothing really. It was a very convenient, great value for money.Venue and the landlady had an amazing story to tell about the history at the property.
- David (8/5): good - Good breakfast, comfy bed Room a bit noisy due to facing A1

- Ian Kellett (7/5): -
- Jayne (10/5): - Everything the building is a listed building so much history. The owner is so friendly and helpful. She was super nice when I arrived quite late ! The bedroom was massive and the bed was comfortable.
- alexandra (10/5): -
- shirley (4/5): Disappointed with accommodation - Breakfast was good and I wasn’t charged for it or a drink that was offered to me on my arrival. The proprietor was very friendly and asked what time I wanted breakfast and it was ready when I arrived at the dining room which had a completely different feel to the rooms that I was staying in. Tables were set for a further 12 diners, but no one else had breakfast while I was there. It was 8:30am I was disappointed with the accommodation. There was a musty smell in the rooms. It was described as a flat and consisted of a living room/kitchen, shower and separate bedroom. It was clean, but the furnishings were tired and dated. There was no wash hand basin in the shower room, which meant that I had to wash my hands and brush my teeth in the kitchen sink. Because of the smell I had to have the window open all night which meant that I could hear the traffic on the nearby A1.
- Mrs Clarissa (8/5): Excellent value, comfortable, and very 'un-standard' - Breakfast was very good, room was enormous and very clean. Furniture eccentric but comfortable, whole place random, and quirky, very friendly staff. Old coaching inn, next to A! The bedroom windows were nailed shut and the fan was missing a button to turn it on!
- Glackin (8/5): Short stay - A little bit noisy but good value for money and lovely breakfast Bedroom was on front of A1 so there was traffic noise.
- Tamara (8/5): -
- Kevan (9/5): - Warm.welcome, amazing 'hostess with the mostess', Lovely room, comfortable. Good nights sleep and the perfect breakfast. 'Full English' ❤️👍
- Ilse (8/5): -
- Jason (10/5): -
- Heather (8/5): Good value B&B...a perfect stopover for driving North or South. - Proximity to A1 which can be easily accessible from North or South bound carriageways. Walls are very thick in the main house so road noise is minimal. We had a large bedroom with sofas, so we could sit and watch TV. Breakfast was good and tasty. Nothing
- Nikas (9/5): Great location, friendly staff, amazing value for money. - Great location, friendly staff, amazing value for money.
- Margaret (8/5): -
- Beaumont (8/5): - Clean bed. Hot shower. Great breakfast Old fashioned furnishings
- Robert (8/5): - The hostess was extremely helpful and kind Bathroom
- Kelsey-Marie (10/5): -
- Stephen (6/5): For £50 you get what you pay for - Handy just off A1, but with this a lot of road noise. A really good cooked breakfast (probably hottest one I’ve ever had ) Toad noise, but expected it as next to A1. Room was dated & not exactly clean
- Rebecca (7/5): -
- Jonathan (9/5): Perfectly nice, much better for sleep than you might expect so close to A1, and extremely good value - More than satisfactory, within limitations of being an old building 10 metres back from the A1. Super-convenient location, and much nicer than e.g. Travelodge. Extremely good value, in fact I did think suspiciously good, but it seems absolutely nothing dodgy about it, simply the host is a good sort who thrives on looking after her guests. Environment is quiet apart from the main road, and the windows face onto fields rather than the road. Interior including my room is spacious, quaintly and extensively decorated, in fact a bit dowdy, but perfectly clean. Nothing wrong with it that affected me.
(An old building right by the A1 probably isn't for very light sleepers, double-glazing notwithstanding. But with the windows shut I wasn't bothered and slept very well, unlike at Travelodges with vehicles and people coming and going. Traffic at A1 speed comes in waves & whooshes of white noise, nothing persistent or sudden!)
- Wayne (8/5): Was pleasant - Location Everything was fine
- Janis (7/5): -
- Andrew (5/5): - No towels, cups or plates in attic room
- Steven (6/5): Cheap and cheerful - Breakfast was excellent though slightly let down by the sausage quality! Hosts were very friendly and helpful. For the price, have to say good value. No WiFi though, in fairness, it did say that in the listing but I missed it. Listing photos must have been taken decades ago- place showing its age. Location somewhat out of the way.
- Jackie (6/5): -
- Otis (8/5): Great Bed, great breakfast, you can get done what you need to get done. - Nice beds, hot shower Traffic noise but that was expected as it’s right next to the A road.
- Claire (10/5): - A really enjoyable stay
- Martin (10/5): Lovely place - Lovely breakfast and host, fantastic hospitality for an over night stay. Felt just like being back at home. Everything exceeded my expectations and
- Stuart (8/5): Good for dog owners -
- nikita (10/5): Great stay. - Very accommodating when I needed to arrive late. Excellent breakfast, friendly staff will definitely stay again.
