CHAO (2/5): Great view and beach, but terrible service with misleading - Good view Staff is not trained well. Sent message through booking, nobody replied; Nobody helped to take luggages; Took more than 30 mins to check in, lots of people were waiting, but reception spent plenty of time trying to ask guests registering membership; told reception to register my car rego, but was asked to pay for parking when leaving; booking.com indicates 600 CNY for food/drink, but was told there was only a free afternoon tea(which is worth 298 CNY).

Igor (7/5): Nice for a calm rest - Nice location for someone looking for a quite rest. During the dinner there was a life music, nice atmosphere, nice view. Also, saw some people riding the waves on boards. Conditioning in the room was not OK, except the central one there was a separate heater (probably to fight against moist) - all night it was quite not comfortable to sleep. Swimming in the sea is prohibited for already several years, it was not indicated during the booking.

dingkunl (6/5): Love the view and services, but there are a lot to improve - The view is absolutely beautiful. It is hundred percent worth it to upgrade to the ocean view house if possible. The breakfast is really good, be there early tho, you might have to wait after 9:30 am. Both pools are pretty shallow for adults, crowded with kids. The gym is mid, a lot of equipment. The beach is super nice with chairs and benches for you to lay down. Though it is not allowed to get into the water, which is really sad. The service are absolutely great, always have a smile on their face. But the overall experience with this hotel is only a 3/5 for me. Also, I recommend to take a cab out for 30 minutes for more authentic and affordable meal!
sylm2023 (2/5): Experiencing the seasonal tastes signature restaurant - Entered the restaurant at 6:30PM. I was told this Westin is no longer doing any type of buffet. No one except a couple and a man sitting at their tables. I ordered French fries and the spicy chicken burger. Had to wait 45 minutes before complaining to leave and not paying anything to finally get food served at my table within 5 minutes. I was given poor excuses such as the other clients ordered much more complicated food...Anyway, mac donalds do taste like five stars compared to the atrocious burger I was provided at this place. Moreover the chicken was a little funny, I got sick during the night and threw up all this terrible shamelessly overpriced evening meal. I will never stop by this location ever again.
UrbanReality (10/5): One of the best resorts in China - I would like to rate The Westin Shimei Bay Resort for 5.The Westin Shimei Bay Resort exceeded my expectations in almost all aspects. We stayed at a family suite with direct access to the pool. Though it was too cold to use the pool, the suite itself was very spacious and comfortable. With two bathrooms and three sinks, a family would not feel constraint. The hotel was stylish and the suite we stayed was well maintained and cleaned. I must mention the buffet breakfast of the hotel. It was among the best in China. Firstly the breakfast started at 06:30 though most hotels in Wanning and Sanya started at 07:00. 06:30 was very friendly for those who wanted or needed to get up early. Secondly, the choice of the food was among the top tier and food was delicious. F&B team was amazing. All staff I had met were ready for help and keen to help. This made The Westin Shimei Bay an absolute five star hotel. Special thanks to Ms. Xu for her assistance during our stay. We needed some place quiet for some reason before we could check in, she helped to arrange a room for us so that we could stay until our room was ready. The Westin Shimei Bay Resort was definitely one of the best five star hotels I had stayed in China and I strongly recommend this hotel.

Q2458PDpatrickd (2/5): Substandard Experience - The service at this hotel was abhorrent. Staff will not allow customers to swim in the water past their knees, so don’t go there expecting to swim. Breakfast buffet was over crowded and much of the food had no taste. All in all one of the worst vacation experiences I have ever had. If you’re planning to visit Hainan don’t go to this overpriced sand pit with no ability to swim in the ocean. This “hotel” should be appalled by their lack of service and ability.
karlwang89 (2/5): Marriott members not welcomed here - This is the worst hotel ever. My wife and I stayed here on Jun. 11. She is a Marriott platinum member and I have Titanium status. Although we encountered Marriott hotels not wanting to provide member upgrade, this hotel has taken it to another level. Hotel managment instructed hotel employees not to provide room upgrade around any Chinese holidays, even if rooms are available. Come to think of it, the issue with Marriott hotels are their highly inconsistent service. Likely due to many franchises that Marriott can’t control. So yes, I recommend any Marriott members who wish to stay at this hotel to book using OTA so this hotel can pay a higher take rate. Lastly, the bathroom sink is just way too small. Breakfast is also mediocre.
Garrett (10/5): Beautiful. Would stay again - Absolutely beautiful hotel. In China 5 star doesn’t always mean 5 star but this resort was absolutely clean, modern, and beautiful. We only stayed here for 1 night on a road trip from Haikou to Sanya and it was one of our favorite resorts.

BritinChina1963 (8/5): On the Wanning beach - Very busy hotel Mid March, maybe because people cannot travel abroad due to covid and quarantine. 3rd floor Mountain view room 1st night, exactly that. Large room, twin dou⁷ble bed small bathroom and stupidly small bath. Had to ask for fridge to be opened by a key to use, informed people not always honest. Nice size balcony with sofa, chair and table. 2nd and 3rd nights moved to 5th sea view, much better with view. Advise 5th floor as 3rd and below appear to be in tree line. Fridge in this room was open. Rooms have plenty of electric International plug sockets. Busy 9am crowd was easily catered for at breakfast, which was very good. Had Italian themed buffet, it was ok but no stand out foods, good selection of bottled beers and a draught beer. Hotel grounds are vast and grassed, very well kept. Le Meridien next door is all sand frontage so be aware. Hotel lobby is a whow, must visit just to see. Beech is good, turn left walk maybe 1km, turn right long long beech walk. Restaurants outside hotel and are good. Staff nice but not too good with English. Recommend

CongCongHuiHui (10/5): Just wonderful - We have been at Westin Shimeibay twice - location is not very touristic, beaches are clean and not overcrowded. The hotel itself is very family friendly (50m indoor pool), several outdoor pools, play grounds and kids club. Food wise you will have the choice between Chinese and Chinese food ;-) the western cuisines isn’t too fancy (but who cares). We would recommend to rent a car if you stay there longer. Btw - the Christmas dinner buffet was fantastic! Great hotel, thank you Westin

Baron Liu at the front desk was a gem and the room was delightful – on the first floor and right at pool level so my patio opened up to the pool and I could hop right in! The bed, of course, was heavenly and the room was spacious and clean. The staff at the Lobby Lounge were polite and accommodating and got to know me because of my daily coffee and snack visits. The beach is clean and the beach chairs and towels numerous. They have a small roped off swimming area on the beach. However, the pool was excellent, and I chose to stay there because it was nearly empty every day! They have a small drinks/ice cream bar at the pool which was nice for refreshments. The nightly buffet on the lawn was good but got a bit old after 3 nights. Perhaps changing up the variety of food would make it more attractive. They have a western restaurant and of course, the Lobby Lounge. They also have two Chinese restaurants that catered more to families/big groups – not great for a solo traveler. For such a huge resort, I would expect more food options. My favorite part of my trip was my visit to the Heavenly Spa where Amy Long took amazing care of me! I highly recommend this hotel and plan on visiting again!

I probably had one of the best facials and massages I have had in a very long time and it was quite affordable. Things to improve on at the Westin – more food options, especially for dinner; a stocked mini-bar with drinks and snacks in the room; warm/hot water in the shower (the water never got above luke warm); a better payment system at the buffet – you would request the bill and then have to wait 10-15 minutes while they retrieved a printout for the room charge. Regardless of these small improvements, I would highly recommend the Westin at Shimei Bay and would happily visit again. If we can’t travel out of China for Chinese New Year, you will find me at the Westin!
MegAts_cn (2/5): Dreadful dinner for a 5stars restaurant in international hotel - On a holiday during Dragon Boat festival, we wanted to have dinner at the Westin buffet, as recommended by our host. We arrived at 8:45pm and the staff at the reception told us we had two options, the buffet outside or the restaurant inside. Once at the buffet, we were told that it wasn’t possible to have dinner because It was late and they were closing. We had dinner at the restaurent then. We ordered the full Pork ribs in BBQ sauce. The ribs consisted of 5 bones with barely any meat on it, that were too cooked and hard. The price for this dish was 158 rmb, which is a shame for what it looked and tasted like. We then decided to order a margarita pizza, thinking it could hardly be messed up. We ended up with an industrial pizza, that tasted more of sugar than anything. The venue was beautiful but the services and quality of this restaurant were highly disappointing. Paying 500 rmb for a high standard restaurant, we would expect to have decent food.

k377qq (2/5): Do not choose this irresponsible hotel - I had made a reservation at the rate of 3700 CNY for 5 nights via Marriott.com and received the confirmation email. However, this hotel sent me an email to notify me that they think the rate is incorrect so they just cancelled my reservation. HOW RIDICULOUS AND IRRESPONSIBLE! This rate is totally marketable and you can even find lower rate on many dates now. The most UPSET thing is that the management of this hotel doesn't even bother contacting their customers personally and just sent a BS email to "notify" their customers. This hotel lacks basic sense of responsibility and respect to their customers so what kind of service could you expect?
Sk8nsnogrl (8/5): Wonderful experience - My family of four (2 adults and 2 small children), had a wonderful stay here. We were upgraded to a lovely room which was a nice surprise upon arrival. The staff was super friendly and willing to help us out bc we do not speak mandarin. The breakfast was incredible...largest breakfast buffet I have ever seen. The beach was clean and safe, although the water was a bit rough. We thoroughly enjoyed the kids club and the family cycling bikes. I would def recommend this resort. If you are solely English speaking bring a translation app and you will be fine. The staff also has translation apps on their phones.
Yingxi (4/5): 很糟糕的入住体验 - 好的：硬件不错，很新，3人间的别墅每个卧室都很大。酒店位置不错。差的：真的不懂以前spg旗下的威斯汀服务怎么这么差。写的3点入住，3点左右到的酒店，本想睡个午觉，没想到等了整整两个小时等到5点过才住进去。期间问了两次，还都是我主动打电话去问的，5点了酒店也并没有告知我可以住，真的是服了。办理入住的前台小妹业务相当不熟悉，开始说有早餐，过了一个小时又打电话说没早餐，耍猴吗？房间距离酒店大堂很远，同行的有3个老年人，要求酒店用摆渡车送到房间，却被告知摆渡车的下班了，5点就不服务了？？晚上9点过要求送一些洗浴用品，送了快一个小时才送过来，期间打电话催了2次。这就是威斯汀的服务水平？？真的是太气人了。服务一星都不想给。折腾过去折腾过来整得心情都不好了。整个期间远不如我原来订的酒店。总结：很糟糕的入住体验，下次也不会住了。
KodoDrummer (10/5): Beautiful 5-star resort on the South China Sea - A great place to relax, rejuvenate, go swimming, and enjoy the views of the mountains and the South China Sea. The property is spacious and a popular wedding destination. The fitness centre is large and packed with excellent equipment. It is very family friendly and has a nice children’s pool with slides. Similar to many resorts in China, it is very budget-friendly. I love vacationing in China.
chechet2016 (10/5): Beach Resort with a luxury vibe - Stayed here December 2018 with family. Rooms were... wow. Big, luxurious, comfortable. Bathroom is sprawling with separate areas for toilet, bathtub and shower area. Clean, very clean. Huge balcony with sofa and a clothes drying rack (thoughtful, good for wet bathing suits). Lobby has a wow factor, high ceilings and facing the sea. Very easy beach access, barely 20m from lobby. A plus point for this hotel is that you can walk out to shops, restaurants and a supermarket along the main road. Takes about 10-15min. Convenient for you to grab a meal or get necessities. The restaurant has a humongous buffet spread in the morning for breakfast. However after breakfast hours, the food choice becomes very limited. My compliments to the housecleaning staff who was very conscientious and took the initiative to give us extra towels and toiletries when she saw we had 3 people staying in the room. Cons: took us 2 calls to get the housecleaning to come clean our rooms. Hotel has a rather confusing layout. Aircon seems to be centrally controlled, there was a thermostat in the room but doesn’t work, one can only adjust the fan speed.
Barolo48 (6/5): Great Place—-but? - The hotel: fantastic. The equipment: only the best you can get worldwide! We had the chance to stay one week in one of the beachvillas. Clean, proper, superb! The staff, very helpfull, above all Mr. Adam and Mrs. Freya! The beach remembered us to Honolulu! Wonderfull sandbeach. But only few of the staff are able to speak good and understandable English. Very often we experienced the communication was limited, because of the poor English the employees could speak. So nobody could tell me what will happen with my deposit, I gave with my creditcard. Concerning free WiFi: we had to get the impression that all Google-items like Gmail, Gmap, Google Earth etc. were supressed. Google map without the possibility to see names of places or towns, mails about Gmail account: no chance to send or receive any. WhatsApp works only without receiving pictures. Might be that Google is censored????? The Hotel could not offer any private or group sightseeing tours! That‘s far away from international or Westin-Standard. Sorry to say that, because as I mentioned: the architecture and the surrounding like garden etc. are really fantastic!
oletatam (8/5): Great resort - The resort is great, comfortable, with lots of indoor space, nature and front desk service is up to standard (I speak mandarin). Breakfast quality is same as most SPG hotels in China, it offers variety and quality is quite good already. They also provide shuttle bus transfer to the airport, which is great. However, the driver is not a happy guy... when we arrived at the domestic terminal, as I’m flying back to hong Hong, I asked if I also needed to get off here, he didn’t give me a clear answer... so I got off... and there is no clear direction at the airport for the international terminal... I walked 25 mins to another building... taking my luggage and cross the roads without traffic light... Hope it would be improved in the future. Anyway, I enjoyed my stay in this resort!
Corporati (10/5): Great atmosphere - Now staying in this hotel, beautiful place on the beach, rooms are so wonderfully decorated, lobby is so huge one side beach other side mountain, the way from expressway to hotel road covered with long tree from both sides, my friend informed some trees are very old almost 200 years old. Restaurant offers food of many varieties if you’re Muslim they will provide halal food.

Very friendly staff, special tx to Freya Feng and Ali of reception for all help and warm welcome. Very good buffet breakfast . Ask for sea view superior rooms with bathtub on terrace, amazing !!!!
kymgpeck (2/5): Disappointing - I imagine this was once a high-end fabulous destination. NOt sure what happened. I am assuming they turned it over to a Chinese management company that now runs it. The Dream beds were there like a Westin, bt the place was poorly maintained. OUr room STANK and during a little typhoon it completely flooded and we had to be moved. They were great bouat moving us and it went very smoothly. As noted by other travellers, Miss Lemon spoke good English and was very helpful. They did TRY, but everything was jut kind of sub-par. With the exception of the Spa, which had some really cool aspects I had never seen before, like a light and water table therapy. The Spa service was excellent. The beach was a disaster. They have a rip current that runs pretty quickly and they had the red flags up the whole time we were there. Every time my sone went in the water they lifeguards would congregate ont he beach and blwo their whistles and freak out. I explained to them every day that we were from California and understood the ocean. My son clearly new exactly what he was doing and yet they continued to plague him. Meanwhile, one lifeguard sat in the tower looking at his phone as women in full dresses turned their back on the ocean and stared at their phones in the surf. I am not even sure the guards new how to swim. They were fully clothed with crocs on and no safety gear, other than their damn whistles. The Westin ShiMei Bay sign on the grass was an eyesore. Basically, if you are a Westerner expecting Westin quallity and service, you will be disappointed. This is a pseudo-luxury hotel catering to Chinese. Whish is fine, jut know what you are in for. We loved the BOtanical Garden, which was lovely. My kids got to make chocolate in the lab, which tey really enjoyed.

Wonderful_1981 (10/5): Paradise on Earth!!! - Last week I had one of my best experience in this wonderful hotel. First of all Front Desk and Lobby area are complete open and you can see the sea. Hotel with fantastic design and architetture... I can only say simply beautiful! My room was very nice, well organized and comfortable. Room was in front of the sea so I had a very good view of the sea. Thank you so much to workers on Front Desk especially to Mrs. Lemon (I remember also her Chinese name... Hongrong Zhou) and Mrs. Freya that suggested me very nice locations to visit and also very good restaurants (remember these two names if you will visit and stay in this Hotel!!!). Thank also to all guys in Lobby Area (they are is able to prepare amaizing cocktails...you have to try!!!) and in Resturants: all people very friendly and they can satisfy any special request! You have no idea about breakfast: any kind of food. Every morning I tried different food: all were delicious. WESTIN SHIMEI BAY RESORT...a piece of Paradise on Earth that everyone must try!!!

Derek (8/5): Great for a laid back vacation. - Unfortunately I was sick the whole time here. Due to a foul up with the shuttle from Sanya airport they upgraded my room to oceanfront and it was beautiful! The hotel was well designed and the room fantastic. Make sure you have google translate on your phone as most of the staff speak very little English. Right on a lovely beach with warm water and clean sand. The hotel is a little remote from any city life, but that was what I wanted. Be aware that China heavily censors the internet!

Verified traveler (10/5): Great service - Great overall trip. Very attentative staff, very good breakfast, good beach, plenty of facilities and some activities. Great gym and pools. Was there during low season and some construction was ongoing. OK prices in the restraunts, but not cheap. Not too much to do in the surrounding area, but very relaxing, especially for families or a quiet vacation. Mostly local tourists.
Alex (10/5): Winter in Shimei Wan - Although we don’t speak Chinese some of the staff spoke enough English for us to get by. Hotel is well designed very quiet, clean and well maintained. Rooms are spacious with excellent amenities. Plenty to do even if the weather is not great as it was for the first three days of our stay. They have a daily list of activities from cycling to cocktail making classes which guests can participate in at no extra cost. Breakfast and restaurant options were quite good although maybe not up to claimed five star rating. Area around the hotel is largely undeveloped but there is a fair amount of construction underway with apartment blocks and a local shopping centre just opened. Travel to hotel is an hour by taxi from Sanya (350-400RMB) or hotel supplied free shuttle (specified times) which takes about 2 hours. Good beaches for a swim or surf (water temp 24C) with several accessible breaks within walking distance although beach directly out front of hotel was closed for water activities our entire stay due to dangerous surf (Chinese standards for hazardous surf are slightly different to ours). Pool was fantastic although not many guests used it as water temp was a chilly 18C. There is an Olympic sized indoor pool which was a better option for the temperature conscious. Great gym with good selection of machines and free weights. Overall a highly enjoyable stay for our family and an experience we will be talking about for a while.
me (10/5): Friendly and relaxing atmosphere - All members of the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Great interior swimming pool, long enough to train and looks very clean. Exterior swimming pools: the adult one big enough and interesting shape, the children one was also interesting and had slides. Inside the hotel there is also playground zone with learning centres. We ate all our meals at the hotel. It offered enough varieties for our 2 weeks stay; some delicious and colourful meals. Again the staff was very professional. One of the restaurant had a play zone for the children. End Nov., early Dec. was quite quiet, no crowd anywhere. Tennis court always available.
Wonderful_1981 (10/5): Amaizing experience - Hotel with very modern design (especially lobby), near the sea and very confortable. I had a very nice stay here. Room was nice with beatiful view of the sea. Staff in front desk were very friendly. A special thanks to Duty Manager Ms.Lemon who helped me during my stay for some translations...her smile was very nice!!! I really hope to have the chance to stay again in this beatiful hotel!
Ka Hei (8/5): 總體不錯，但仍有提高的地方 - 住宿方面：我住在2樓山景房，房間有明顯潮味，聞了兩天也習慣了；朋友住在5樓的海景，潮味沒那麼重，但也能明顯聞到。酒店才開業5個月，房間木制品較多，不知道跟裝修味和木味所導致有沒有關係。房間走道上有見到過一隻已死的小蟑螂和在行走的大蟑螂，酒店要加強殺蟲和清潔衛生。飲食方面：在品味、大堂酒廊和西餐廳都吃過飯，廣東菜不是很好吃（我生活在香港，跟香港的廣東菜相比），川菜和早餐不錯。到晚上大堂的酒廊很開揚，眼前就是大海，月光下喝酒聊天非常贊。房間沒有免費水果，我也沒有問，但是之前去三亞的麗思卡爾頓酒店、博鰲中遠酒店都有提供，酒店不一樣是沒有可比性，但是有提供就更好了。服務方面：服務總體都很到位，去了發現威斯汀沒有spa，找到了就在旁邊的艾美有spa，不知道是不是因爲是同集團，兩邊的禮賓部都提供電平車來回接送，省下大中午走路，路途不遠但畢竟中午真的會很曬嘛，很感謝他們的安排。
