Guest Reviews
- Lorenzo (9/5): -
- CHIALING (9/5): Great service after 16 km trekking - Nice tatami, nice food, services are good
In the lobby there is a must try massage chair, after 16 walk this is a must with the onsen.
My room can hear the sounds of the creek and the trees, very nice experience
I like the pillow, a special material very natural nice to smell All great
- Kimmo (8/5): -
- Samuel (8/5): - My family and I enjoyed our stay here. The facilities are a little dated - the building looks like it was built in the '70s and nothing has changed since then, from the architecture to the decor, but that datedness is part of the charm. The attached restaurant served tasty meals for reasonable prices. The amago trout, a local specialty, was a highlight. Staff were very welcoming and warm, and they offer a free shuttle to and from the nearby Kumano Kodo trailhead. Not glamorous, but an excellent option for hikers passing through the Omata area.

- Sui Chun (9/5): -

- damian (9/5): -

- Dario (7/5): -
- Johann (10/5): Tout simplement parfait. RAS
- Ilias (4/5): -
- Suzanne (9/5): so glad we travelled to Nosegawa hotel - the location - away from civilization, full autumn colour, fresh air, view from rooms, not sure if you can get here unless you are driving the pillow
- Riccardo (10/5): Wonderful onsen hotel near Koyasan. - A beautiful traditional hotel. The meals, both dinner and breakfast, were superb. The onsen fully met the expectation. The room was very charming. The staff professional and helpful. We used the shuttle service to and from Koyasan, all good. Nothing. A great stay
- Mathieu (6/5): Heb me hier geen moment thuis gevoeld.
- yulin (8/5): -
- CHUN-SHAN (9/5): -
- Bygate (8/5): - I loved everything about my stay in Japan you have a very beautiful country
- Henry (10/5): - Excellent onsen hotel right at the end of the first day of the Kohechi Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trail. I came for the onsen and mountain seclusion, but they had such good maps of the Kohechi at the front desk that I decided to walk back to Koyasan the day I checked out. It’s about 20km through the mountains from Nosegawa Onsen to Koyasan, walking on a mix of well-kept trails and paved roads; overall, a moderately difficult hike with very good signage.
I highly recommend Kohechi hikers to stay at this hotel.
- Peter (10/5): A welcoming inn with especially excellent food. - Mr Nakamura and his staff provide a welcoming experience, in a more traditional style riverside inn, with lovely river views, soothing onsen, and excellent dining. All done to a very high standard. I loved it and had no complaints.
- Hiroe (4/5): - The food was not good, so I understand the price was cheap now. Some equipments were broken. I couldn’t see them to try their customers return there.
- Rakel (7/5): Overall very happy - Traditional style accomodation
Amazing surroundings and very friendly staff
The attached restaurant was outstanding
Best tempura I’ve had in Japan
The waitress was so very lovely as well Some areas not clean
Smoking rooms
- Jonathan (10/5): - Great place. I highly recommend
- Samuel (10/5): Great stay with a group of friends. The staff were great and we loved the food and facilities - Onsen, staff, dinner, breakfast
- Xiaodong (7/5): Good -
- PETER (10/5): - It was a quiet and wonderful stay on the Japanese countryside. It's a bit out of the way, so make sure when planning your way there you follow the shuttle instructions or have another way of getting there via car or taxi. Staff were friendly and accommodating and helped to contribute to a memorable vacation
- Dan (9/5): Superb -
- Erin (7/5): Good - Staff very helpful Dinner orders finish at 18:30!
- Oliver (8/5): Very good -
- Guy (9/5): Peaceful rest in an old Onsen hotel - This a humble hotel in an isolated location. If you want to experience what the Japanese experience this is the place. It is older and everything works but it is definately dated. The food was excellent and we had the fixed menu dinner and breakfast for 2 days. We loved hanging about in a yukata and haori for the duration of our stay, and the easy access to the onsen overlooking the river. This is not a fancy place, but it is a genuine experience so suited us perfectly. We liked it all, but it is not a place for someone looking for activities other than onsen, hiking and food. It is close as the crow flies to Koyasan but the tiny roads meant the drive was 45 minutes. Also, the rooms we had were futon beds in a tatami room, which is not for everyone.
- May (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jonathan (5/5): Nice rustic hotel off the beaten path with amenities, but you will benefit by having a car to access - A very good value and nice people. The environment was very nice and the hotel was well staffed with lots of treats and 2 restaurant options. Would have like to have know there was an option for a nice restaurant that required reservations upon our arrival. The restaurant we ate at was nice with a wide variety of options and the cook was very good and quick. When we selected this Hotel, we believed it was in Koya-San - but it was actually 40 minutes by car from there. Fortunately, we had rented a car but to the time for traveling to and back from Koya-San were not able to spend as much time as we had anticipated visiting the town. There wasn't much to do/see in Nosegawa at town of 424 people. The Onsen was very nice and the hotel had washing and drying capabilities which we really appreciated.
- Ross (9/5): Superb -
- Peter (8/5): Great - I was picked up and dropped off at Kohechi Trail Onsen and friendly staff
- Bonaventure (8/5): - Very good customer service and cozy tatami room with view overlooking the river. Fell asleep to the sound of water flowing.
- Manuel (9/5): Superb - Shuttle service from omata station, highly recommend the dinner and breakfast package excellent food at an excellent price! Staff was very kind and helpful. Great place to relax and rest after a hard day on the kohechi Route
- Andrew1024 (8/5): Traditional isolated ryokan - This was an isolated ryokan by a river with traditional indoor onset and Japanese only meals. About 15km from Koyasan it was the closest to the expensive alternatives in Koyasan that we could find, though the very narrow mountain roads take about 40mins to cover, and are best done during daylight hours. The heating in public areas was provided by large paraffin burners which gave of an awful smell that caught at the back of your throat.
- Ieva (10/5): The best onsen ever!! - The onsen!!! It had perfect vintage vibes. And the stuff was friendly un hellful! And the breakfast was good as well. Everything was great.
- Nick (8/5): Lovely - Loved the staff, the waterfall, the Onsen, the reliable and very safely driven transport to Koyasan. Some of the fittings were a bit old and worn out.
- Xiaofang (8/5): Overall a good stay - Good food, comfortable beds Very dated bathroom and very small sink
- Christian (10/5): Authentic Japanese experience. Staff really friendly and helpful - Authentic Japanese experience. Presentation outstanding. Staff really friendly
- Michael (10/5): Very comfortable accommodation with fantastic staff and food -
- Meng (8/5): Very good - It is an older h@djotel but the rooms are clean and spacious. All rooms have the river. Room 203 is beside a small waterfall as well.
All necessary facilities including a public bath, small shop to purchase snacks and essentials and a restaurant with Japanese food. Only issue is no private shower or bath but there is private sink and toilet.
Nice mountain views from observation decks in the area around Nosegawa to view the sea of clouds if you're lucky. Supposed to be good for star gazing.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Easy parking Infront of the hotel. Nothing much to see in the area and the roads leading to Nosegawa and the hotel are narrow. If you like to rest and relax, it is a nice place to get away to.
- Alphonse (10/5): - Excellent Ryokan that has been well maintained and cared for given its long history.
The old facility is evident and yet despite that, provided a cosy stay.
The host was extremely warm and welcoming and showed the hospitality as one would expect from a traditional Ryokan passed down from decades old.
The kaiseki meal at additional cost were delicious and well worth it.
Frankly not much around the area and as the host put it best: come, relax and enjoy what the moment has to offer without the hustle and bustle.
Fun fact: the hotel has the only elevator in the whole area.
- Varsha (7/5): Great views but worn and stuck in time warp. - We drove to this hotel, used google maps and took us on a very narrow road. Don’t take 733, take 371 slightly longer but much better route.
Nice onsen. No one in there. Breakfast was included but only Japanese. Had it the first morning but asked to have only coffee in the following morning.
Nice river view out of our room. Stuck in time warp. Needs refurbishment. Everything old and worn but clean.
Had basin in the room and toilet. But had to go into the onsen for shower.
Make sure to bring food with you if you arrive late. The restaurant closes at 18.30. We ended up eating pot noodles!
- Christian (10/5): A great value for money in a friendly retro atmosphere - I stayed in the old bulding and had the pleasure to listen to waterfall and frog sounds from the nearby river all night. Very soothing.
The place has a great retro atmosphere, clean and nice onsen and great food.
On top of that, when I inquired about public buses to Koyasan from near villages, I was told by the receptionist he will take me there the next morning via car. Free of charge. What a service! I would welcome a bigger second towel in my room.
- Arkadiy (10/5): That's really a hidden gem. It's amazing! -
- Liz (10/5): The staff were incredibly helpful and attentive. Everything was clean and very comfortable. Such a relaxing atmosphere. - The location was picturesque. The onsen was fabulous and available until late at night.
- Stefaan (10/5): Authentic - Perfect and authentic Difficult to find
- Lynne (10/5): Exceptional - The staff at Hotel Nosegawa was amazing. I casually asked if there was anywhere I could get oatmeal and soy milk and the next day when I came down, they had gone all the way into Koyasan and got me oatmeal and soy milk. Wow, I was shocked, that was above and beyond and totally unexpected. Such a generous group.
The public bath was clean and enjoyable. In addition, the free shuttle to Koyasan was super convenient.
We really loved our stay and would highly recommend it.
- Pengyeow (9/5): Stayed 3 nights, would have liked 5 nights. Overall a nice stay in the mountain range. - Great location. You can walk around the area but driving is needed if you want to go to the mountains or nearby attractions. Highly recommended, route to hotel is lovely drive with surrounding forests. Note narrow roads & curves, it gets dark early. Lobby & room are cozy, clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Our room facing stream of crystal clear water & small waterfall. Common walkways around rooms and to public baths are quite cold. The lift is the coldest; better to use the staircase.
- Dylan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Yuk (10/5): Quiet environment, Staff very nice, very local lace - Staff is very very nice, have Chinese speaker staff N/A
- Lawrence (8/5): Very good - This is in the middle of nowhere, and we were entirely dependent on the hotel staff, for everything. They were terrific, always doing their best to take care of us. The onsen is nice, the view from our windows was great, and the food was very good.
- Toml91 (8/5): Lovely staff, good facilities, especially for this remote location. - Very friendly and welcoming staff. A personal taxi Service from the Kumano Kodo trailhead to the hotel which is 3km from the trail (Kohechi route). They will pick you up and then drop you off the next day free of charge. A very pleasant Onsen and useful laundry facilities plus a small shop inside the hotel to buy essentials. The dinner and breakfast included with the half-board package was very special and extensive. Overall a very pleasant overnight stay. The building is a little tired looking but in this remote location it is definitely the best and most well equipped hotel. Definitely recommended for travellers passing by. Would visit again.
- Rahim (8/5): Very good - Hard working staff, nice room The room was a bit musty, could do with airing before arrival.
- Noriko (8/5): Superb hot spring and friendly staff - Very friendly staff and great hot spring bath House slippers were a bit uncomfortable and the music for the dining room could improve (the same one music was played over and over for dinner and breakfast)
- Kok (9/5): A remotely located gem with a good onsen - Place was very clean with a river-facing room and onsen. Service provided throughout our stay, including check-in/out, meals, were superb with a personal touch. Both dinner and breakfast were traditional Japanese which was perfect and was a great experience, and quality of food was great. Excellent stay and perfect start to our holiday in Wakayama. The location is quite difficult to get to with no amenities nearby. It was Ok for us as we used this onsen as an enroute accommodation.
- Helen (9/5): Superb - This was a gem of a place. Beautiful location, huge rooms. I shared a room with my two teens and we actually had two rooms that were joined together so it was massive. The communal bath overlooks the river. The staff were extremely friendly. The restaurant wasn't that great.
- Nicolette (4/5): Bad experience - Onsen, traditional Japanese meal Unfortunately my experience was bad, the owner wasn't that nice and kind as I read in previous reviews, we didn't get shuttle from the cable car station to the hotel, so I have to pay a taxi to take us to the property, where we got other more unpleasant surprises. Even if they expected us to arrive, nothing to eat was available. Staff didn't speak English we asked or requested they were nodding "yes," but they didn't understand. We pre-ordered dinner for the next day, we asked for grilled version, they gave us boiled one, we opted for 2 types of meat, they charged us more than the initial menu (3 types of meat). The check out moment was most disappointing when we found out that they charged us for second person occupancy in triple room more then half of the price of room (the other hotels charged us extra ¥1000). When we asked for an explanation, the owner became upset and refused to talk to us, to mention he was the only English speaker in the hotel. So if you want a nice experience of ryokan, onsen and traditional Japanese food, don't bother to book Nosegawa, you get high quality services in Tokyo, Osaka or Kyoto.
- Cher (6/5): Pleasant -
- Travis (9/5): Superb -
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Location is lousy. There are no attractions nearby,
- K (10/5): Great Hotel & surroundings - We arrived late and were given a great welcome and show around the room and property by the owner. An absolute gentleman he is.
Onsens were great, I wish we arrived earlier to enjoy the very pleasant reception area and the fabulous massage chair (free or charge).
The reception also has a coffee bar, shop and vending machines.
Amenities are self service by the lift. (open from 6am to 11pm) although ladies were coming into to clean at 8am. Breakfast was Japanse style and very nice. Coffee is not included in the breakfast, green tea is. Room was great with a balcony sit out area. All rooms had river view which was nice. Plenty of private parking, very nice surroundings. We stayed here on arrival day to Japan, and prior to stay and visit of Koyasan. It was perfect stop point, although the drive here is NOT for the faint hearted :) specially when it is raining. We wouldn't be surprised if the roads are closed in winter or bad weather.
- Verified traveler (10/5):
- Verified traveler (10/5): -
- Rob (8/5): - Ordered a room with shower ensuite. Didn’t get it. Later, hotel rep ‘found one’. Problem solved, but still!!!
