Guest Reviews
- Gerald Haffner (10/5): - The view was wonderful! Everything was clean, lots of spaces to relax in, the kitchen was fully equipped with anything you could possibly need 😄 We really enjoyed this lodge
- Saskia (10/5): Heerlijk, fantastisch verblijf gehad. Dankjewel Ype.
- Allan (10/5): - Ambiente tranquilo y paz total
- Eisenschmidt (10/5): Absolute best find in the Montezuma area, hands down. - What a gem! A small, boutique hotel nestled in perfectly maintained, lush green nature, with a stunning view of the ocean in the distance. Ipe, the owner, fills your private fridge with different offerings (eggs, bread, cheese, fresh fruits, granola etc) for breakfast every morning, and the well-equipped kitchen invites to home-cook your meals. I work on the road, and the Wi-Fi never let me down. Private secure parking for my motorbike was included. Ipe never hesitated to offer tips for activities in the immediate surroundings. The rooms are comfortable, clean, and feel very private. I immediately extended my stay by 2 nights. I did not mind this at all, but the town and beach is a medium-long walk or a quick drive (if you have a motorbike or 4WD there is a steep shortcut) away, so if you're looking for easy beach access, this is not it.
- John (10/5): - Accommodatie Nvt
- Johann (10/5): Very relaxed! - Highly recommendable, beautiful house and garden and a very friendly and caring owner! We even extended our stay unplanned two times!
Super ontvangst.
- Claudine (10/5): Exceptional value in a stunning place - We absolutely loved our stay at Jodokus Inn. Ype is incredibly friendly, generous, and welcoming. His house, with its multiple terraces and balconies, is simply beautiful and offers the perfect place to relax and truly disconnect. The property is secure and surrounded by many fruit trees, which adds to the peaceful atmosphere.
There is a very large shared kitchen, and each room has its own refrigerator, which is very convenient. Everything is well organized and spotlessly clean. Every morning, Ype provides eggs, cheese, bread, yogurt, fresh fruit, and juice, which you can prepare to your liking and at your own pace.
We already can’t wait to return. We had the chance to observe monkeys in the forest on the property. An unforgettable experience!
- Milagros (10/5): - El entorno espectacular. Volveremos!
- Fernando (9/5): Idyllisch - Sehr schön Hause, ein ausgezeichnetes Platz, wunderschöne Garten.
Alle wünsche in Erfüllung gegangen mit sehr freundlichem hilfebereit Besitzer.
Unvergessliche Blick aus der wunderschön Terrasse.
Vielen lieben Dank für die gute Zeit.
- Nathan (6/5): Lovely home and grounds but not what is described in the listing - Absolutely beautiful grounds, attractive building, and lots of wildlife! I don’t feel that the property is properly explained in the listing. This is not a hotel, it’s a B&B in the owners home. The owner is very friendly but has many rules for guests (no shoes, no luggage on floor at any time, no food in rooms or upstairs, etc) but no boundaries for himself. To access your car (which is absolutely needed as a couple miles outside of town, not .75 as listed) you walk by his bedroom. The living room area is his living room. The only private area is upstairs. There are cameras everywhere but the bedrooms. The “Exceptional breakfast” is him putting two eggs, some bread, and a couple plantains in the fridge for you to cook and make yourself. The rooms are clean but very dated and extremely hot. Think metal building upstairs with minimal airflow.
I don’t want to be unkind, the proprietor is very friendly and in many ways the place is amazing. But to me the tradeoff of lack of privacy, extreme heat in the rooms, and distance to town was not worth the wildlife and lovely grounds when for the same price an air conditioned hotel just outside of town with better views is readily available.
- Kerstin (7/5): Basic B&B for budget travelers. Very friendly and helpful host. We enjoyed our stay a lot. - Beautiful common areas; Room was basic, but to be expected at the price we paid. Breakfast was good, with plenty of fruit, eggs, toast, coffee .... . However, it is important to note that you prepare your own breakfast in the large common kitchen. We also could use the kitchen throughout the day, which was nice. Large, well-maintained property, with limited ocean view on the large deck. Driving to Montezuma takes about 15 minutes. It was hot in our room, although the fan helped. No air conditioning, but we were aware of that before booking.
- Walter (8/5): A remote and peaceful stay. - View to the ocean and a lovely garden. The communal rooms and kitchen are large and airy, but not our room. Location was difficult. Our room was small and had no air conditioning and no mosquito net that we could use. Luckily we had a large net with us. There were no places to put our cases apart from a window sill. We arrived in the evening and had no place to get food. We had to walk down in the heat to Montezuma to a soda. We were not warned that there is no food available. The host offered to pick us up after our meal, but no option to travel down to the restaurant. No offer to organize tours etc.
- Helen (10/5): Exceptional - We loved this place - for us it was perfect. The setting was wonderful - such a beautiful peaceful garden and gorgeous furnishing in the communal areas. The bedroom was small but perfectly adequate - good large bed. Shower hot and ensuite fine. The breakfast we were left in our own fridge, in the communal kitchen, was fab. Wonderful 4 nights. It wasn't that we didn't like it - it was an adventure - but we were really glad we had a 4WD Suzuki Jimney to get around. The roads all around the area are challenging . We were thankful it wasn't the rainy season. Advise that everyone follows instructions from the host rather than follows Google as it can send you on some even more tricky roads!
- Camille (10/5): Wonderful villa - WONDERFUL!
The villa is beautifull surrounded by a forest from one side and by a lovely garden from the other side
You can eat with a view of the sea, read a book on comfortable chair or watch wild animal from the window of your room.
Huge and rich breakfast.
Only 5minutes from Montezuma.
The host is full of good intentions to let you have a perfect moment.
We definitely recommand ! Nothing
- Andrew (10/5): A great find in Montezuma area! - The location is fantastic, secluded, and has nice views. Jodokus is very hospitable, helped with transportation and had good advice on keeping the costs of our trip down.
- Dwayne (9/5): Very nice place away from the town. - Really nice property and not far from Montezuma.
- Gavin (10/5): Exceptional - We loved staying at Jodokus Inn. It is in an amazing situation with views over the ocean and beautiful plants and forest surrounding it. We saw howling monkeys and lots of birds on the property. Host provided fruit, bread and eggs for us to make our breakfast. He also had good recommendations for places to eat and was happy and quick to respond to any questions. The Inn was for us oldies a 40 min walk up steep hills from Montezuma but we didn't mind because it was nice to be away from the traffic noise and bustle of town. Nothing really.
- David (9/5): Very relaxing - Community kitchen had everything you might need. Breakfast was good. View was great. Host was very accommodating Very pleasant stay A little ways from town but it was a nice walk one way and the host would come pick you up to bring you back whenever you wanted.
- David (10/5): Super inn great town worth walk to beach to magnificent beach - Owner super nothing to much trouble breakfast great very good-facilities free lift to or back to inn Nothing
- Lorraine (10/5): A Touch of Serenity - Touch of Paradise......beautiful landscaped gdns in the jungle with great views and wildlife. Spotlessly clean with an extremely accommodating host ! Loved everything !
- David (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional - We had a great time there. The house is surrounded by a beautiful garden. We also had a view of the ocean from there. The staff is great and very helpful.
- Antonia (9/5): Lovely stay - Very pretty big house with a great kitchen and pretty garden around with fresh fruit. The rooms are nice and clean, though there are a lot of ants and other insects due to the forest around. The host ist very nice and always available for any issues. Only slightly negative thing is the location, as it is quite far from the small city. It’s 30 min by foot down to the beach/Montezuma or a 6000 colones taxi ride up/down. The host does however offer to drive you up/down one time a day.
Overall we had a lovely time!
- Francesco (10/5): Wonderful stay in Montezuma - Wonderful structure sorrounded by nature! The owner is very nice and makes you feel like home!
- Patrick (10/5): Exceptional - We loved everything about this place. Beautiful big lodge building on a a property with amazing view and gardens. All the amenities you need and heaps of breakfast supplies - making our own smoothies with fruit from the garden was ideal on a hot afternoon too. Host is super friendly and helpful! Nothing
- Danique (10/5): Paradise! - Where to start... This might have been my best allround experience through Booking. And I travelled a lot. The place, it's surroundings, the energy, the host, the services and facilities, everything was 10 out of 10.
You can pick fruits from the beautiful garden to make your own smoothie in the morning. There's an abundance of birds, animals and butterflies. You can hear the monkeys howling in the trees in the morning. I would wake up in the early morning to watch the sunrise while drinking my coffee and watching the ocean. If you want to immerse yourself in nature and have a peaceful stay this is your place. Every room has their own fridge in the kitchen and every morning your host will make sure there's enough products in there to have a lovely nutritious breakfast. It also has very well equipped kitchen with all utensils you need in case you want to cook at home. Ype goes above and beyond to ensure you have to most perfect stay.
Property is a little bit far from the downtown and since I was solo traveling without a vehicle I was worried this might would be a problem. But in hindsight, I didn't want it any other way. You feel remote (in the best way possible) while still being close to the crowds in town. I either walked and enjoyed the surroundings (I would recommend to walk to town at least once and make a stop at the Beer Brewery <3) or Ype would drop me off/pick me up with his AT4.
I wished I could have stayed longer. My 2 days felt like a month. If you want to fully recharge and enjoy Costa Rica in it's purest form, this is you place to go.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Ype. Keep it going, Pura Vida!
- Manuel (10/5): Rare gem of a place! Hope to come back sometime. - Outstandingly beautiful property, including a huge garden (you can pick your own fruit). Very clean room and shared spaces and tasteful interior. Extremely helpful and hospitable host. Free ATV ride into town or back if needed.
- Lisa (10/5): Jodokus is the place to be - Amazing location.
Service great.
Welcome, help & advice also very good.
Getting a wonderful breakfast a surprise
Superb kitchen & facilities
Not to be missed
- Kevin (10/5): Exceptional - The view and the tranquility of the place is outstanding, you feel connected to nature and gratefull for being in such a wonderfull place Perhaps that only gave one egg per person on the breakfast, maybe it would be good to ask this before.
- Andy (10/5): A great place to be. - Everything, it’s tranquil and away from noise downtown, beautiful gardens, kitchen very well equipped, it’s a 3 walk from downtown which for us was great and our host picked us up every evening.
Host was superb and at one with nature, very informative and helpful.
Animals and birds were abundant.
We loved it there, l have been to many places in 50 years of travel and at this moment I cannot think of a better place to spend time at, will definitely return. N/a
- P.a. (8/5): We had a great, relaxing Montezuma experience! - Lovely garden and great hospitality. Ipe provided us with advise for area activities and breakfast was nicely organized! It can get quite warm in the room (No AC, fan) so please note if you’re sensitive to this.
- Emilia (8/5): Very good -
- Ismene (10/5): Amazing - The atmosphere and the personal approach from the owner were spectacular. The house was incredibly neat and everything was really clean. Other beaches are near and it's almost a few minutes from Montezuma.
I definitely recommend this place to stay.
- Dariusz (10/5): Exceptional - Property is a little bit far from the downtown but if you are looking for nature and peaceful stay - it is place for you. Owner is very helpful and compensates long distance with free ATV ride. He offered us free food from his beautiful garden. This place has amazing view to the Ocean. It has very well equipped kitchen with all utensils you need. You have to prepare breakfast for yourself but you get enough products for nutritious breakfast.
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful facilities, gardens, common areas, communal kitchen well appointed, caring and responsive host.
- Peter (10/5): Great host, beautiful garden&animals, quiet & relaxing stay, tasty breakfast & well-equipped kitchen - Our host was really great - very helpful, communicative and a lot of good and honest advices on making tours and where to go e.g. surfing. The host speaks German, Dutch, Spanish and English well (maybe further languages), this made the conversation easy with all the guests. We felt welcome and had an awesome quiet time in Jodokus Inn and nice activities in Montezuma (the waves for surfing are nice at playa grande, better go for a bioluminescence kayak tour in Paquera) :)
The sleeping room is equipped with a good mosquito net at the windows, a powerful fan and the bed was comfortable. There is a lot of really nice wood furnitures and floors and a nice view on the ocean in distance, which creates a special and relaxing atmosphere with the amazing garden and animals.
We enjoyed the tasty breakfast with fresh pineapple or mango, cheese, eggs, yogurt, cornflakes, toast, coffee etc and the well equipped kitchen very much (all the ingredients are provided in your own big fridge and you can prepare your breakfast whenever you want).
The garden of our host is amazing. We saw howler monkeys, white-faced capuchin monkeys eating bananas, an agouti, a coati eating ants and the rest of a pineapple, rare doves and different fruits like starfruit, oranges and grapefruits (we were allowed to pick and eat them).
We’d like to prolong our stay at Jodokus Inn! There was a high humidity in the sleeping and bathroom.
Unfortunately, in the bathroom there were no mosquito nets. Therefore, ventilating without getting insects in the bathroom, was not possible.
- Miroslaw (10/5): Amazing resting place on a very good location - Really nice place just walking distance from the beach. Very easy to get there. Very silent and the host is amazing. Really recommended especially if you don’t have a car. NA
- Charis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Martin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Reece (10/5): this was our first stop on our Costa Rica adventure and it ended up being our favorite!! - beautiful grounds and perfectly located just away from the crowds in montezuma.
- Fraguglia (10/5): Relaxing - Ype is a great host who truly wants his guests to relax and enjoy themselves The super-white light bulb in the bedroom haha. Pretty much everywhere we stayed in Costa Rica could benefit from softer-colored light bulbs
- Jan (10/5): Exceptional - Great and friendly owner, beautiful garden. Calming place.
- Greg (9/5): Superb -
- Anonymous (10/5): really great place to getaway from it all. - The gardens were amazing. Rooms were comfy. Everything you need was in the kitchen. Fresh fruit growing in the garden and a great host.
- Adam (10/5): Our best stay in all our time in Costa Rica - Everything, the location is superb for relaxation and taking in the natural surroundings. You can see the water from the property but are also surrounded by trees, fruit, wildlife. The host was amazing, very helpful and great to chat to. The only thing I could mention is there is no air con, however there is a fan in the room which was sufficient.
- Celine (10/5): Exceptional - It is such a relaxing place. You immediately feel at home. My host made me comfortable, filled the fridge everyday with delicious fruits and helped me a lot by driving my friend to Santa Theresa.
- Ross (10/5): One of the most stunning places we’ve ever stayed, with a very warm welcome - An absolutely stunning house with gorgeous extensive grounds. You won’t find peace and quiet like this elsewhere in Montezuma, and we loved every second we spent here! We saw so much wildlife on the property and the owner, Ype, often pointed out birds and animals in the garden. It’s a couple of miles out of town, and not really walkable, but this is what makes it such a secluded spot - and Ype offers a lift on his quad bike every day, which is great fun in itself! There is also a great kitchen so you can enjoy cooking meals and eating them with a stunning view. Ype could not have made us feel more welcome and was always on hand if we needed him. Staying here is a real experience, and we would love to come again! His website has some great pictures of the location, too.
- Douglas (7/5): friendly host, nice stay, but hard to access - very friendly host placed eggs, a whole pineapple, bread, butter, jam, 2 bananas in a fridge for us, and allowed us full use of the well equipped kitchen; dining table outside with nice view of pacific ocean.
while no AC, bed had an efficient mosquito net. inn is very hard to find, even with GPS. host's instructions were not easy to follow; he could have emailed a detailed map. Advice: print out a very detailed approach map from Cabano (not from Montezuma). Roads were the typical awful, as found in many places in Costa Rica.
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional - The best hotel I never have. The place was wonderful, the host kind and very helpful in all ways. Definitely recommend it!
- Christoph (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing accommodation. We loved our stay there. The garden around the property is great for wildlife spotting (a troop of capuchin monkeys came by one morning) and the view to the sea is spectacular. Very hospitable and helpful host (thank you!). We would definitely go there again.
- Akiva (10/5): Exceptional -
