Guest Reviews
- Rehara (5/5): - I was having a shower owner of the motel come to my shower looking thru the window shower I told her to go away she wouldn’t go away I was so so upset she creep me out

- Mangere (3/5): - Host lied that there was no single room until I booked on booking.com. not worth 75$ for single room. Too old .
- Tj (10/5): - The staff Location
- Tea (5/5): Cheap and cheerful stay! I'm grateful we were able to book last minute. Very friendly place :) - Perfect location for a graduation we were attending right in the middle of town. The room we had was for 4pax (3adults and 1 child) and consisted of 2 single beds and a bunk (lower bunk was a double and top bunk was a single). The room itself was huge and we loved looking out the window to the street below. There is a bar across the road but they were not loud at all and I think they closed down around midnight or just after - you could barely hear anything if you have the windows closed. Location of room was great as we were not too far from the bathroom (outdated but the hot water was the best once it was up and running) and communal kitchen (plenty of space to cook and eat and hang out). I slept on the single bed and me and my other friend could feel the springs through the mattress! The key to being comfortable was to lay in one spot and not move the whole night lol
- Eseta (7/5): Happy we got the last accommodation online for this area - Location was good for our group Handy for us all
- Semisi (6/5): - Location No elevator, no private parking, door was hard to lock
- Lisa (4/5): - That it was convenient for what I wanted Its an old establishment so it was musty and cold. No headboard, TV up closer to the ceiling couldn't watch it (even with my glasses on) no Netflix available. Had to climb over the bath to have a shower and there was barely any room to sit when going to the toilet. Plus no tea, coffee available. I know I pay for what I get but this was very disappointing. Bloody staff member needs work on her customer service 🙄
- Nishanth (8/5): - I appreciate Jannie for letting me check in an hour late. Thank you.
- Diane (3/5): -
- Heather (2/5): Convenient but basic - Bed. Kitchen - messy dishes left on bench. Floor in kitchen swimmg wth water after heavy rain. Smell of old oil in corridor. No stagf around to give key bk but place all open so left key in door. Walls very thin in bedrm- noise transfers easily
- lisa (2/5): - No hot water at all for a shower...leaving it there!
- Williams (3/5): - Location and team, sheets were clean The conditions of rooms were very sad..., fan was filthy, needed painting and updating. Carpet was old windows were jammed,
Needs to have a total restore

- Hahipene (6/5): It was okay for the 1 night - Location was good. Dinner was excellent. It was very noisy. People coming in all hours during the night and congregating together.
- Matekuare (10/5): It was worth my stay i would love to rebook for next time - The location love it The cutlery not washed in the kitchen
- bryan (8/5): -
- Tait (5/5): - The local people Some of the other guests
- Christina (1/5): - I have been waiting since the 21st of February and still haven't received my refund. I asked for the hotel to send confirmation to booking.com so that I may receive my refund, however I am still waiting!
- Deborah (7/5): Great location basic but perfect for a short stay - Great location great price Bit noisy but its next to a bar
- Sam (6/5): Would I stay here again? - Excellent location, great service at check in. I kinda liked the retention of the period accurate decor. It made me feel like this would have great accommodation in its time, before motels were created and became popular. I didn't expect the communal shower/toileting arrangement but now accept it was in their advertising. I found my stay was reminiscent of an accommodation style from decades long ago - possibly post World War II. I wasn't too happy about the car parking arrangements where the "onsite" parking is not fenced off making security a concern. I had no problems though and acknowledge the CCTV coverage.
Probably won't stay here again. I'm too used more privacy and in room shower/toileting facilities. I'm glad I did stay though because it made think of my parents and grandparents who would have revelled in this type of accommodation back in the day.
- Lara (3/5): Not good - Good location, friendly staff The bedroom wasn't clean, lots of cobwebs and spiders. The bathrooms were awful. No toilet seat on the only toilet in the women's. The shower head only came up to my shoulders and it's not adjustable. I understand it's a pub and it's noisy but the problem was the paper thin walls and the extremely loud snorer in the next room. Everything is old and run down. Should be renovated before any more rooms are let out.
- Vaughan (6/5): - Clean and quiet Hall way light was right outside window above door so was bright all night
- Riripeti (1/5): The hotel I'd filthy, the kitchen is disgusting we could not cook in it. - The only thing good about the hotel is the location The hotel is filthy we had to change rooms because of the putrid snell. We found rotting meat of some kind in the wardrobe.
- Malcolm (6/5): All good - Did not have any meals on site Have parking for the public who were staying on-site fenced area
- Solberg-wells (2/5): Pick somewhere else. . - Ladies bathroom didnt have a seat. Looks like seat was ripped off or something. The lid was sitting on the floor. The bathtub had a giant hole in the brick surrounding it. Surprised they can call themselves a hotel. Had to grab someone from the bar to check me in and wasnt the friendliest.
- John (3/5): - the price The beds, the shower the general condition
- Jones (2/5): It's the cheapest for a reason! - It was cheap and available when Whakatane was full.
Location great.
Served purpose of sleep. When I arrived... twin shared room. One bed made the other looked like it had been burgaled. Stripped but all bedding piled up. The rubbish bin in the corner was full to overflowing with previous guests rubbish.
The room didn't even have a power point!
The bathroom facilities are shared for the floor. One of the 2 toilets didn't flush. Neither of the 2 showers could get a balanced warm shower. There wasn't any soap to wash hands at the basins.

- Linda (8/5): - Very old hotel but it had plenty of character Fan didn’t work properly
- Harris (5/5): -
- Eric (1/5): Disappointing. We have stayed here before and for the price it was ok. - When we checked the bed before retiring for the night we found bed bugs. We packed up immediately and before leaving and returning home we informed the manager. After confirming that we had paid through booking.com we were told we would receive a full refund.
Two days later we are currently awaiting payment.
- Elijah (10/5): Thank you to the awesome staff! - It had a bed Nothing
- Ruben (9/5): -
- David (6/5): -
- vineet (1/5): Have naked owner coming to have conversation - Owner was rude Facilities was very bad
- Rehill (6/5): We will stay again because it’s location and price. - The room was clean and comfortable with a fan. And a great bench for bags and belongings. The kitchen was not clean the rubbish bag was overflowing. They did attend to it when we pointed it out and said the cleaner was away.
- Orwin (8/5): -
- Orwin (7/5): -
- Alby (3/5): Budget accommodation with zero frills. - Staff was courteous and helpful. Room was small, outdated, towels were old and frayed, fan was so stuffed up with dust that you could not feel any breeze (and it was a warm night) and there is a window in the room above the door that lets in the hallway light, so it was hard to get to sleep. With a small amount of effort, it could have been a better experience.
- Mark (10/5): -
- Ahenata (9/5): Clean, comfortable, cheerful staff, well done,I would stay there again - I didn't have breakfast at the hotel,I enjoyed my stay , affordable, close to town, clean accommodation, just what is needed for an overnight stay. No comment

- Luci (8/5): Would definitely stay here for value - Location great very accessible to shops, Very helpful staff, bed very comfy Maybe a fan could be added to room?
- Robert (7/5): Great value for the time there. - Bed was comfortable. Access to the Craic for Bar Meals. Shower hot/cold water control was finicky.
- Aaron (9/5): Great place to stay in Whakatane - The Whakatane Hotel was conveniently located in the city centre. The room was excellent.
The hotel staff were helpful and efficient.
- Gavin (3/5): - Location Noise from bar/band
Fan only that didn't blow
Room therefore too hot
Window could be opened but was to a public access.
- Mitchell (2/5): - Location was central, and staff were very friendly. Toileting facilities were either damaged or dirty. Didn’t seem to be cleaned during our stay.
Needed to have a fan in room to assist with heat as windows couldn’t be opened properly.
- Hikihiki (5/5): Okay if you enjoying bar hopping - CLose to town was so convenient The stairs and parking and no fan.
- Shauntelle (8/5): - Was close to venue Nothing
- kim (5/5): Good location - Position Very shabby kitchen and only one toilet for ladies. Room like an oven I couldn't sleep at all had to be 50dc and no fan or AC
- Bill (10/5): - Great location, central and friendly staff. Air conditioner didn't work.
- Matthew (8/5): - They were able to store my pack the morning before and the morning after my stay. Free tea and coffee and milk for hot drinks were good.
- Tania (1/5): -
- Evie (6/5): would stay again on the way to rnv - Very lovely staff :) Showers took a while to heat up but not too bad.
- Kevin (9/5): Location is great. The price of room is good. Everything else is fair. - Location Smoke detectors
- Patrick (2/5): -
- McGregor (5/5): - Room was comfortable and clean Room was in need of renovation shower facilities were disgraceful un-repaired damage to walls and ceiling
- Graeme (7/5): Okay - Met our needs Met our needs
- Antony (6/5): - It’s very central to the foreshore and local amenities. Being a hotel it was lively in the evenings and had a good vibe. The place is really rundown. The carpet was rolling at the join in my room and that in the hallway was covered with a mat. No info was provided on arrival (e.g. guest wifi) apart from warning about not smoking or vaping in rooms and the code for the front door. I’ve never stayed in a place with so many ad hoc signs about everything about water temperature/pressure, closing doors to bathrooms and ominous warnings about fining anyone who sets off a fire alarm accidentally.
- Trudy (10/5): Recommend place on a budget . Right in the heart of whakatane - Stayed here . Good budget friendly place. Old but ok.. friendly staff. Room fan needs a good clean . And maybe check your room door locks . Woke to find my door open ..Faulty lock
- Leratooo (9/5): Good place for a stop over! - Perfect location is the heart of Whakatane. It is a simple hotel, which feels a bit historic- I liked it for the 'blast from the past' atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and professional, and the pub down stairs is nice.
Would recommend for a stop over stay rather than for a few nights though! It was exactly as advertised.
- Nikora (8/5): Overall good stay - Location Bad internet
Tv not working
- Bobbi (10/5): -
- Jason (10/5): -
- Stewart (7/5): You get what you pay for and this was good value. - Location is fantastic, couldn’t really be more central. Room was ok. Staff very friendly - especially excellent bar staff. Security on the window was non-existent. Everything a little bit ‘tired’. Needs some love.
- Gareth (5/5): - Central location Not great facilities, shower didn't work 😕
- Tira (8/5): Very pleasant stay - The location was perfect, the building wasn't flash but comfortable, it had everything we needed. Only 2 dislikes was you had to walk through the patrons to check in no side door parking was abit tricky
- M J Simmons (5/5): -
- Vaughn (7/5): - Location was the best 10/10 everything single detail after that scored an adequate rating which to me ranges from 6 to 7.5 hey I would stay again. Nothing
- Susie (7/5): -
- James (4/5): Whakatane Hotel ( The Craic) - Staff were very friendly and approachable, rooms were clean, but very worn., no fan or ac. Location was great, right in the heart of town. Rooms are very worn and directly over the bar area and/or the nightclub. Admittedly, I stayed a Friday and Saturday night, expecting a bit of noise, but the live music was very loud and went until after midnight on the Saturday and loud Karaoke in the main bar on Friday night. Location is great, though I wouldn't recommend it, if your looking for a peaceful night's sleep.. It might be better mid week.
- Jenny (8/5): -
- Darnell (9/5): -
- James (7/5): -
- Ashley (10/5): Convenient stay well done - Cheap Bland colours
- Aaron (7/5): -
- Riripeti (5/5): The hotel needs a good clean. - The location is perfect The kitchen was very dirty to the point that we did not use it, with dishes and rubbish left. Fridge had old food left in it also rotten carton of milk.
Towels not changed
No hot water in sink in ladies bathroom.
- Janess (7/5): Simply needed a bed on the way home. Attended an event, the opening of a new art space so was perfect location. - Location was excellent. Rooms are extremely basic with adequate facilities, no frills accommodation.
- Chef shane (10/5): -
- Corinne (6/5): Short stay in town was pleasant - Good location in town The bed waa an issue for comfort
- Edward (5/5): -
- Lova (5/5): -
- Chris (7/5): - Location and price The communal kitchen was untidy
- Jim (8/5): Maggie's Review - Location. Pub underneath. Check in was easy. Room comfortable. The carpet was uplifting and anyone could trip on it and hv a fall.
