• clare (10/5): Great Stay - Lovely large room with comfortable beds and pillows. We were on the ground floor but there wasn’t a problem with noise at all. Room felt the most homely we’ve had in our travels. Nice lamps, pictures and even plants. Large tv with lots of channels. Great location. Would definitely recommend The Magic Sponge. Fridge would have been a bonus but not a problem. Missed having a mirror by a plug to dry my hair but again that’s a minor issue.

• Pam (10/5): Wonderful Stay in Kampot - Fabulous location, walk-able to many restaurants and to the river. I had some great conversations with the owner and other guests; it's a good place to socialize if you want to. As a solo traveler this was a big bonus for me. The restaurant is wonderful ... lots of choices and everything was delicious. Happy hour 5-7 daily! :-) Room was basic, clean and provisioned with water, electric kettle etc. WiFi was fast and totally reliable! This is rare in my experience of Cambodia. TV has lots of channels with movies, sports, etc. All-in-all it's a wonderful place to stay and explore the area. William is a great host. Five stars! I thought the beds were a bit firm for my taste ... but this is a common issue in SE Asia.

The grounds were nice and good location. The shower could have been a bit hotter and higher pressure but was still plenty sufficient.

He does all the booking, check ins and departures, he also finds time to run the restaurant, bar, maintenance, helpful tourist advice and booking of transport. He has a small team of staff which he looks after. Nothing is of any trouble and you are made to feel very welcome. The theme is to Chill out and that’s how you feel whilst staying at The Magic Sponge. The in room entertainment is top class and with the clearest of picture on the screen providing enough selection to keep you entertained. The food is of very high standard with an extensive menu using quality products than most hotel cheap brands. There are plenty of areas to enjoy around the grounds including crazy golf (9 hole) and 2 pool tables under the nice smelling pink jasmine pergola. Leaving

• Didier (9/5): Excellent séjour !!! - Excellent rapport qualité/prix !! William le proprio est adorable, serviable et toujours le sourire ... Et toujours prêt à vous informer. La chambre était très belle (par rapport au prix), les lits excellents. Les prix pour se restaurer sur place très corrects et les plats et petit déjeuner très très copieux !!! Endroit très calme avec une cour ombragée et fleurie pour se restaurer ou prendre un verre. Sur place billard et mini golf (toujours agréable) Pas loin du centre ville (5 mn en 2 roues) Super adresse !!!! Absence d'un petit réfrigérateur. C'est le 7ème hotel depuis le début de mon voyage et le 1er sans réfrigérateur. Certes William peux vous mettre vos bouteilles au frais derrière le bar mais un petit réfrigérateur dans la chambre ce serait vraiment bien.

Welcome drinks were well appreciated. The fried cheese balls are delicious. Quiet street. Rooms are clean and spacious. The outdoor area and pool tables could do with a cleaning and some maintenance

William is a great host, ready to provide information on request but not in any way overwhelming. The bar was cool, the breakfast was indeed voluminous but also delicious. Really enjoyed the Kampot vibe too.

• Cornelia (9/5): Superb - The accommodation is a stylish and beautifully designed house in a quiet, centrally located area. William is an excellent host who takes care of all our needs. We felt very comfortable in his house. There was no complaint at all.
• Edmund (10/5): A beautiful boutique hotel for your stay in Kampot. - A big smile from William and a complimentary cold beer on arrival really set the tone for our stay at The Magic Sponge. We ended up staying here for five nights and absolutely loved it. The room we had was spacious, spotless, and all of the facilities looked and felt brand new. The area around Kampot can be dusty, so the rain shower in the bathroom was always a welcome treat. We didn’t use it, but each room has a large TV with Netflix and other channels. The beds are comfortable, and the air conditioning did its thing silently on those hot and humid nights. The restaurant menu at The Magic Sponge tells you that American-sized portions are served, and this is absolutely true. We had breakfast here every morning of our stay, and it set us up for the rest of the day—we weren’t hungry again until dinner time. I highly recommend the breakfast burrito and the eggs hollandaise with Kampot pepper ham. Yummy! We can’t recommend The Magic Sponge highly enough for your stay in Kampot. As well as all of the above, it’s just a very short walk to all of the sights in the center of town. This is one of those few places that I can't find anything negative to say.

• Karen (9/5): Comfortable guesthouse in a good location - The rooms were clean and comfortable. The location was good, a short walk into the centre of Kampot, with restaurants and cafes nearby. There was a problem with the drain in one of the bathrooms but the owner was very efficient, called the plumber straight away and made sure that it was fixed pretty much the same day.

I‘ve been coming to Kampot a number of years now. This guesthouse is the best by far in Kampot for value of money. I would give it 11 out of ten if I could.

We hired a tuk-tuk on William's recommendation to visit the countryside and beach and it was a beautiful day. Shower could do with a makeover but this is a small quibble

The food is amazing and are super large American portions. Williams is a great host! William organised for a countryside tour with his tuk tuk driver Parry. Parry was a superstar, great tour and super nice man! We had a fantastic day! We were able to run a tab and pay for our meals, drinks and accommodation at the end which saves bank fees and freed up our physical cash. William runs a midday movie at midday, they are always random and can be quite entertaining! Give it a go! We had the family room. It had a queen and two singles. The room was spotless and house keeping went through every day. Which a clean place. There are over 4000 cable channels which kept our teenager happy. Air con was nice and cold, and comfy beds after we have had a number of super hard beds in south east Asia. Such great value for money! Thanks William :) Just a heads up if travelling with medication required to be refrigerated, contact William before as no fridge in the room. I am sure William will organise to put in one of his fridges.

We really enjoyed our stay and would have liked to stay longer. Our room was spacious, clean and nicely detailed, with excellent WiFi. Quiet but close and convenient location. The host was super friendly! The restaurant downstairs had a good and cheap selection of food. There’s also a tv there to watch movies while eating, which is liked! It was all good and I enjoyed my stay! The shower wasn’t too good, no pressure and cold water. But the rest make up for it :)

Great to have pool tables onsite too. Our room while small was well maintained and had good working A/C. Would definitely reccommend. Lots of mosquitos so make sure you bring bug spray if you're sitting outside. Other than that, no complaints.

It’s not a negative but I personally need a refrigerator, due to medical reasons. I was able to keep my meds in the kitchen fridge, but this is not easily accessible
• Molly (10/5): Exceptional - William was probably the most attentive and friendly manager we have encountered in our six months of travelling around South East Asia. From the free drink on arrival to the excellent food served, to the help with activity bookings, to the all around welcoming presence, he really goes above and beyond. Rooms are cleaned daily, there is free mini golf and pool on site, and there's always a corny movie playing in the bar area during the afternoon. The hotel is only a 5-10 minute walk from the river front where most restaurants and bars are located, but there are some additional options on the same street too. The hotel is quiet and easy to get a good night's sleep in. Netflix in the room that actually works unlike most places was an added bonus to help escape the hot afternoons!

William was on the phone to the mechanic. Anything and everything relating to the guesthouse was overseen and handled efficiently. We had a four night stay and ate exclusively at the hotel. You will be hard pressed to find larger meals in Cambodia and everything was cooked to near perfection. Truly enjoyed our stay, William, and if we do anymore getaways to Kampot, you know where we will be staying! Side note: William, as some of you may know from the reviews, lived in Alaska. So did the wife some years ago and I and imagine our surprise on finding out that he knew my ex-boss! Gives new meaning to "It's a small world". LOL
• Chris (9/5): Great hotel - The hotel was well presented and the room was very clean. Breakfast was excellent. The owner, William, put us in touch with Mr Phary as Tuk Tuk driver. +855 86 65 03 30. We’d definitely recommend using him. He did a great tour of salt fields, cave and secret lake. Also dropped us at pepper plantation which is definitely worth a visit. Mr Phary also took us to Kep the next day when we hiked in the Kep National Park which was amazing too. Nothing
• Brian (10/5): Exceptional - A beautiful house, seriously comfortable bed, top notch towels and sheets. The food is great, the location also and its run by a lovely man. I'd stay here again
• Anders (10/5): Exceptional - Nice room and comfortable bed. Super friendly owner. Try the Super Taco, it's yummy!
• John (10/5): Exceptional - The owner was full of energy and a great host. Mini golf was a nice addition my 4 year daughter enjoyed it. The food was good too. 5 minutes walk to Riverside/bar area so it was close enough but quiet too. I'd stay here again if I returned to kampot. The room was cleaned daily and spotless 😊
• Kamil (10/5): Awesome! - Everything was awesome. Mr. William is an awesome host. The room had everything we wanted. The food was very good. Minigolf was awesome. The location was great. Near the centre, near the river, very very close to a market. One thing missing a bit is a fridge in the room. But considering the distance to the store this is not a significant problem.

• Adam (9/5): Comfortable friendly place to stay in Kampot - Nice air conditioned room with comfy beds. Excellent service from William and his charming staff. Good food at reasonable prices and a good location convenient for Kampot centre and the Giant Ibis bus stop.I Hard to think of anything really.

• Nick (9/5): Nice building, good facilities, friendly staff. - Nice building, good facilities, friendly staff. Reasonable prices for high quality food and drinks (English Breakfast was good). Will is extremely friendly and accommodating, if a little overboard. Building turns into a locked compound at night and on Sunday afternoons (you get a key, it’s just a minor inconvenience to let yourself in and out). We booked the external bathroom room, which we knew in advance, but was still annoying.
• Jessica (7/5): Good stay! - The room was clean and comfortable! The AC worked super well which was nice since it was so hot and humid. Shower was the worst part - it was a very thin trickle of water (and only after unscrewing the shower head).
• Kaylei (10/5): A really cozy getaway - The room was beautiful. The shower was hot. The owner is always around and very responsive. The food at the restaurant is good and very generous portions. The location is a bit outside the central area but still very walkable.
