Guest Reviews
- Prithvi (10/5): - Great spot - very closeto the airport. If you just want a clean bed and rest this is your spot.
- Shawn (2/5): Scetchy - We took one look at the place and decided not to stay there. Parking lot under construction sign not operable. Difficult access They demanded $60 cash at check in for deposit they told us about a day before stay.
- Glenda (6/5): - A little loud with windows open
- Evelyn (10/5): - Small hidden gem.
- Grace (2/5): - Horrible experience
- Maria (10/5): - Enjoy my stay great customer service
- Luis (10/5): Comfortable stay - Small but comfortable room. Near many attractions within a short ride and pet friendly a big plus.
- Aariel (10/5): - Absolutely loved this cute little property! Would definitely stay here again!!
- Ricardo (6/5): Great spot to rest. - The main purpose of getting this room was to sleep before driving back home to AZ. It worked out perfectly for that. The room itself, room 12, was not horrible. But, it wasn't the nicest either. The good things were that the beds were clean and made. The AC was working good. Decent restroom with a standing shower, toilet, and sink. The TV was nice. And the mini fridge was good. The bad things were mold in the restroom on the ceilings. There were black ants in the restroom coming out of the grout line of the wall tile next to the toilet under the window. When we woke up the sink was full of the ants around the drain. I guess they were attracted to the toothpaste. There was no hair conditioner, only shampoo. The nightstand drawer had debris in it. There were other little things that really didn't affect my stay. Overall, I would stay here again if it was just to rest before a long drive.
- Verified traveler (2/5): - The rooms are horrible. The shower is the size of a locker at best. Beds and pillows are so uncomfortable.
- Edward (2/5): bad place to stay do not stay there dirty - Place was a real mess, dirty, unsafe it was a mistake to go to this place stay very but I trusted your site to get me a safe clean place to stay very disappointed.
I feel I should have a refund this place was a trash place
that should not be advertising its a real mess and dangerous my door would not lock properly
- Brendan (10/5): - Great
- Nina (4/5): - The outside of this hotel is adorable. The room itself was doable for what we paid, but the thing that was not okay was having a streamline of ants in the bathroom, and bed bugs.
We tried to talk to the front desk once we saw the bedbugs to potentially get a different room but they were already closed, so we immediately booked a different hotel and got out of there. The next morning we went back to check out early and explain what we found and they just didn’t seem apologetic or even cared. Such a shame cause it is a cute place just infested.
- Sotirios (2/5): - Cockroaches, dirty sheets, missing sill in shower, stained floors and walls. Yuck!
- Dwane (2/5): - It is an old and outdated property. Not even a TP holder. The night stand was filthy. Towels were really rough and not really clean. The only good thing was the location to beaches. Would not stay again or even recommend.
- fady (4/5): - Dirty small no condiments
Staff is nice
- Lori (6/5): - The property did not have much space for my dog to go potty, but it is totally pet friendly, otherwise. The room was the tiniest I'd ever been in but it had everything we needed! King bed, microwave, fridge and a teeny bathroom with a nice shower. To top it off a great price to be so close to the beach.
- mark (8/5): - I like the old hotel feel- room was clean and very comfortable- close to walking to get food or beverages- what I didn't like is the owners has puppy dogs barking and whining in the middle of the night- one night it was 4am!!!! The traffic noise during the night on the highway was ridiculous-all night long- They should put up sound proof curtains
- reynette (4/5): - The room was super small and the bathroom was dirty hair was on everything and the bed also had hair it felt really awful to sleep in there we honestly couldn’t wait to leave.
- Tresa (4/5): - Nothing walkable
- Humberto (2/5): - Bed and shower confort, bad security
- Andrea (10/5): - Great stay!
- Michael (2/5): - Way too sketchy of a place. Heard something that sounded like a gunshot close by. The door was not sealed, and there was no hot water. Didn’t look at all like the pictures online. Seriously, unless you’re a kung fu master, avoid this place at all cost.
- Steve (6/5): - Floors and bathroom are very dirty. The shower is moldy and seals coming apart.
- Sydney (8/5): - You get what you pay for. This place is adequate and does have some downsides, like the sheets are pretty itchy and everything is a little old and rundown. However with the price it’s clean and in a good part of town. The cleaning lady (we didn’t get her name) is AMAZING and really helped us out when we were in a bind. Overall friendly and decent for the price.
- Keanu (6/5): - Had a couple bugs in the room, but you get what you pay for. Staff were attentive and very nice. Close to 7-eleven, a gym (day passes are $20), and a couple restaurants. Walkable, and the room was decent.
- Wilbert (10/5): Adequate - For the price it was doable.
- Julia (8/5): Functional - It’s super cute on the outside. The room was cheap and it was functional (for sleeping and showering, not enjoying) and that’s about it. If you get back to your room too late at night, you might not get a parking spot. There are some people who might have extended stays at the hotel… And you might not want to have your room next to theirs because they stand outside smoking cigarettes and they keep their TV really loud. Just saying. But if you don’t need any luxury in your life, then this motel is for you!
- McKay (10/5): - From the moment I arrived, I was blown away by the warm welcome and exceptional service. The staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect—friendly, professional, and always ready to help with a smile.
The hotel itself was spotless, beautifully designed, and incredibly comfortable. Every detail felt thoughtfully taken care of, from the cozy rooms to the little touches that made it feel like home. The amenities were top-notch, and the atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing.
I can’t recommend this place enough—whether you’re staying for business or a getaway, this hotel and its wonderful team will exceed your expectations. I’ll definitely be coming back!
- Nick (4/5): - It’s a great location to get to all the beaches and easy access to I-5 which is great. There is a reason why the outside photos are far view photos the outside is falling apart! They definitely have a show room for these photos the bathroom is SO small you can’t bend over without hit the wall, now light in the shower so it’s dark, there was mold in the bathroom, the toilet wasn’t secure, A/C blows like warm, lamp don’t work only had 3 outlets but only able to use 2 because one is on the ceiling, but the beds looked new that was a plus.
- Oscar (10/5): - N/a
- Abigail (2/5): - This property was pretty gross. Had to change room due to stained sheets and cockroaches even though the room claimed to be clean. There was mold on the ceiling in in the shower, the blankets were not clean, had other people‘s hair and cigarette burns in them. The floor was filthy your socks would turn black after walking on them, and there was used napkins under the bed. None of the rooms look the same. They are all advertised as the best rooms there in the photos, the owner is very nice though, but other than that, it was a terrible place and the mold is a serious health issue.
- Ingrid (10/5): - Motel San Diego has everything you need for convenient stay in SD! Convenient location in PB, close to the freeway so it makes a great center point to visit all other SD neighborhoods. Nothing fancy but for those of us who don’t need all the frills, it’s got all you need! Price is great, and a major plus that they don’t charge for dogs to stay too. :)
- paul (8/5): - Great location. Clean
- Manuel Alberto (10/5): - Awaome
- Nicole (2/5): - Shower wouldn’t drain, toilet wouldn’t flush, and bathroom shower is very dark.
- Jose Roman (4/5): - It’s worth the money / u get watchu pay4
- Cedrick (6/5): - The bed was clean which is the main requirement of any hotel, so we were generally satisfied with Motel San Diego. However, the sticky surfaces, nails sticking out of the window frame, and a general need of hastily done repairs left us with a mitigated impression. Not exactly the most picturesque area of town but very well located in a central location. Would mainly recommend for a short stay of a few days in San Diego.
- Dedra R (8/5): - It was very rustic , cool
- Ieisha (6/5): - Ok
- Rafael D (2/5): - Nobody at the front desk to check in
- bridget (6/5): - I like vintage properties. This was funky, old school motel. Room was clean. Downside was cigarette smell.
- Brendan (8/5): - Great value. Room was a little outdated, but was certainly acceptable.
- Jerrod (10/5): - The room had a big bed and was easy to check in. Thank you
- Petra (10/5): - A quaint property at a great location.
- Wayne (6/5): - Location to access highways very good with the exception always having to go south to leave and enter from the north. Room service was non-existing. Nothing but microwave, coffee maker and refrigerator; no utensils. Great water pressure and temperature. Free parking and right in front of room.
- Colton (10/5): - Really nice room with AC and TV. Great service from the staff and had nice appliances such as the microwave and the refrigerator.
- Kimberly (8/5): Budget Friendly, Accepted My Pet, Nice View - I had to find a place to stay last minute due to a building maintenance issue in my apartment. I had to bring my cats along with me. There was a nice view of maintained green foliage with some colorful flowers out of the room window. I barely noticed the I5 freeway close by. The customer service was friendly, polite and responsive. The room is comfortable for being an older motel.
- Serapia (10/5): - Easy check in and out friendly staff and made me feel safe. Thank you
- Yousra (10/5): - We had a good experience. The staff were nice and the place was clean and affordable.
- Denise (8/5): You get what you pay for - Over all it was an OKAY place…good for a single night …I wish they have more realistic photos of what to expect. People travel and might not be familiar with the areas so the more honest of expectations the better. Over all good and clean just wish the advertising was more realistic. The front desk man was very sweet and professional so was house keeping. Again over all in a crunch amd price I would stay here again.
- Silvia (6/5): - Close to all major roads in less than 10 min of driving. Parking and the tv size was a huge plus. I loved the silence here.Location was great close to 7 11 and Mc Donalds.
- Sydney (4/5): - Plumbing was very bad. Liquids wouldn’t flush alone. Shower filled every time. Sink wouldn’t drain. Towels not clean. Parking can be limited.
- Picaso (10/5): - I enjoyed my stay
- chairun (6/5): - Very run down property, but it was quiet enough to sleep well.
- Earl (8/5): Ok tell - Ok stay.
- Karla (8/5): - Todo muy bien para pasar la noche en familia y lo básico , buena experiencia
- Devra (8/5): - Friendly helpful staff, good location, clean rooms but old and falling apart with serious plumbing issues. NIce to have fridge, microwave and little coffee pot in the room.
Parking is perfect right where you can see your vehicle. Nothing fancy but it works on a budget. Stayed here before and will be back again.
- Jonathan (8/5): - Keep up the good work
- Ieisha (10/5): - Great stay !
- Ben (10/5): - Favorite little spot to stay every time I come out for work
- Ben (10/5): - Always a great stay
- Ronit (10/5): - Loved it
- Gregory (10/5): - Very nice staff.
- Ann (8/5): - Older classic single story motel situated off the road. Really a step back in time. Simple clean rooms- fairly quiet too. The reception was very friendly and helpful
- Sandra (6/5): - The advantage of this property is that it is very inexpensive. It is clean and basic. It is an older property that was likely very nice in its day. No closet, no bureau. It has a small coffee maker, refrigerator, and microwave. It is air conditioned and that worked very well. The gentleman in charge was very helpful in showing us how to use the remotes for the tv and heat/ac unit. He was very conscientious. Restaurants within walking distance were ok. The food was good, but they were the small neighborhood sort. We had Vietnamese one evening and Mexican the other. We stayed just one night before a scheduled trip with others and stayed again when we returned. We were comfortable. The landscaping is tropical and well cared for. Though it is on a busy street it is well back from the road and the landscaping provides a sound barrier.
- Dave (6/5): - The room was out dated. Doors, bathroom etc. The hot water barely reach warm
- Anton (6/5): - For this much money okay. Staff are very helpful
- Cecelia (10/5): Highly recommend - Very quaint
Affordable
Great service
- Jason (10/5): - Great place.
- shahram (10/5): - Nice and clean
- Tiffany (8/5): - the staff was very sweet and accommodating!! def a good spot to stay for a small few days!
- Edwin (10/5): - Very clean
- Gavin (2/5): - rooms were dirty and other long term guests made us feel unsafe
- Roberto (8/5): - Was ok
- Verified traveler (8/5): - The owner/staff was very friendly. The room condition is a bit old but clean. Good location and good price.
- Winford (10/5): - Carlos was great. Very nice and happy to see us.
- Victor (4/5): - Bed was terrible. Both my partner and I had back pain after sleeping one night in this bed. My back still hurts three days later. I think sleeping on the floor would be better than sleeping on their beds.
- Michael (4/5): - The manager Carlos was super helpful.
- Christian (8/5): - Upgrades
- Wen (10/5): - Staff nice, well managed, a big old, parking is tight
Room spacious
- Lonzo (10/5): - My girlfriend and I spent a night there from nov. 5-6 ,ut was amazing at being a clean ,spacious and warm welcoming location that we will use again and again..thank you for your great service and friendly welcome.💪
- Marissa (10/5): - The staff is amazing! It’s a cute weekend getaway cottage like motel. We will be coming back!
- Rafael (2/5): - Smell and dirty
- Chris (4/5): - Outdated, dirty, noisy. A mouse kept trying to enter my room under the door. It's a better than sleeping outside...
- Perla (6/5): - If you’re looking for easy, quick stay this is the place. Not fancy
- Justin (10/5): - Staff was friendly and helpful. Will book again
- Aliana (8/5): - Overall good experience. Hot water is backwards on the shower. We noticed ppl say they didn't have hot water, it's just backwards on the shower. Very hot water. Very tucked away Motel for cheap. We enjoyed ourselves!
- Francime (6/5): - It’s ok for the price.
- Evelyn (10/5): - Great little hidden gem. Would definitely stay here again.
- Elizabeth (6/5): Ok for one night - When we arrived the room smelled so heavily of bleach it made us ill. But I guess you could say it was clean.
We were forced to pay a $60 cash deposit for damages, that would not be returned until after a 9 am inspection. Well we were leaving at 6 am so we were forced to leave a credit card in order to get the $60 cash back.
The room, the walls were dirty, there were cigarette burns on the desk, so I'm hoping they don't blame us for damages. Bed very lumpy and uncomfortable.
- Arthur (8/5): - We needed a place to sleep comfortably and we found it. We had business during the day in SD. The place was quiet and close to freeway and tranportation.
- Lee Stephen (8/5): - Really difficult to see traffic when you are trying to exit the parking lot in a vehicle.
They have a surprise security deposit after you pay for the room on-line. They refunded the entire deposit when I checked out.
- Trinh (6/5): - Like: convenient - I was visiting UCSD.
Dislike: Congested area - in and out of motel was bad during hi-traffic time. If I'm antique collector, then the building was very cute but I'm not so the motel could be listed as historical structure, ;)
- Maria (10/5): - I enjoy my stay very much!
- Samuel (8/5): - Staff was outstanding. Very helpful and outgoing.
- KAP (10/5): - They are trying hard to improve the motel
The 60 cash deposit and not ppening the office till.8 was a bit of a headache
- Verified traveler (6/5): - I really have mixed emotions. When booking via the app there's no mention of a required $60 CASH deposit at time of booking (an email came from the hotel at 4am AFTER check-in with that info).
The form you sign at check-in says no pets, yet they're advertised as pet-friendly. I worked these items out without much hassle - and they probably protect the owners from unsavory characters and dishonesty about having a pet - but still, seems a bit shady.
It's the kind of place that hands you the TV & AC split remotes at the windowed desk. The split didn't work but fortunately outside temps were comfortable, so I took a chance and left a window open. I wouldn't dare use the coffin of a shower (I am not claustrophobic) - just not appealing. Microwave didn't work because it's on top of the fridge and too far away from the outlet
It's old but clean, solid, and a bit noisy from the busy street. That said, as a solo female, I was safe and sufficiently comfortable for one night. . Free bottle of water and free pet stay were appreciated.
- Jorge (10/5): - The staff was nice and the room was clean. Thank you, Motel San Diego!!
- Ivan (10/5): - A 1
