- carrieeb2024 (10/5): Book Direct for the Best Rates and the Best Stay - Celebrated our anniversary at the beautiful Sassafras Inn. What a great stay. The Magnolia Suite is so spacious and comfortable. The bathroom has a large tub for relaxing, and the bed is comfortable. The hosts, Darren and Jillian are wonderful, and the blueberry muffins are to die for. What a great place to stay if you are leaf peeping in the fall or anytime you are in the area. The location is perfect! Remember to book direct, this is a local business and when you book on the OTA's (Expedia, Priceline, Booking.com, etc) this costs you extra and the Inn allot extra.

The innkeepers are personable & made us feel well taken care of the entire stay. For us, this would be the only place we would stay in Mena, AR. Rooms are comfortable & clean. He was a wonderful wealth of information about restaurants and things to see and do in the area. His wife made wonderful blueberry streusal muffins that our entire family loved. The rooms were very comfy as well. We will definitely be coming back one day!

- scott (10/5): Great Inn - Darren, the homeowner and innkeeper, met us at the door to this lovely home/inn. He welcomed us with a smile and conversation about the history behind Sassafras Inn and Mena, We sat and visited for about an hour. Our suite was extremely large, (2 rooms), complete with coffee and refrigerator. He then provided us with his homemade, organic blueberry muffins that were to die for. Very cozy atmosphere and a soft bed was just the remedy for a long day in the road. Highly recommend this wonderful place. Will stay again!!

It has 2 antique twin beds in the first room. In the master bedroom it has a really beautiful King size bed, an en suite bathroom. I would definitely stay there again.

Darren and Jill are just the best - very warm and attentive....and the house is very nice and relaxing. We had a tremendous amount of space, and our suite was beautiful. The home is beautiful, quiet and spacious, chock-full with antique furniture and a gorgeous sassafras tree as accompaniment. The couple were a wealth of knowledge about the area, it’s attractions and great food choices.. Finally, I ate the best blueberry muffin I’ve ever had!! - Pam (10/5): Highly Recommend - Sassafras Innis a beautiful home that invites sitting on the porch. Our room was actually 2 rooms with a bathroom. One room had twin beds and the other was the master with bathroom. Lots of space, comfortable bed and pillows. Very clean and homey. Darren and Jillian are wonderful hosts. Darren shared his love of history while Jillian (The Gingered Baker) checked us in. The baked goods were delicious. Absolutely a must-stay if in the area.
- Verified traveler (10/5): The Sassafras Inn is exceptional! - First and foremost, Darren and Jillian are wonderful! They are incredibly friendly and accommodating. Darren went out of his way to recommend surrounding restaurants in the area. Jillian has a baking business, and they offer free goodies she bakes at the grab n go coffee area! We didn’t get to try too many as the other guests thoroughly enjoyed what she put out, but what we did was amazing! The house itself is beautiful and furnished with antiques, which is always a plus for a history lover. We booked the Veranda room. It was a smallish room with a king bed (which was super comfortable, best sleep I’ve ever gotten traveling). The bathroom is outside of the bedroom, but it’s in an offset hallway. The bathroom was spacious and clean, and the toilet paper even had one of the cute little stamps imprinted in it. The veranda/balcony is right off of the bedroom and is stunning. The house was a little cold, but it was no problem as the bedroom has a space heater! Overall, the stay was comfortable and relaxing.
- Leslie (10/5): Great Time at the Sassafras Inn - I was in a bind without a single hotel in Mena, AR having a vacancy. When I called, Mr. O'Bannon was extremely helpful in working with me to fit my trip into their available vacancies. The hosts were very thorough in explaining how to access the bed 'n breakfast and my room upon arrival. The accommodations were impeccably clean. Many of the furnishings in the the inn were antiques, and the style of decorating was charming, making one feel at home. I found the hosts very easy to engage in conversation, and I enjoyed several opportunities to compare lives and travel. Mr. O'Bannon is very knowledgeable of history and had many stories to share. Mrs. O'Bannon also runs a made-to-order bakery in the inn - many times I arrived to a pleasant aroma of freshly-baked goods coming from the kitchen. Both hosts were eager to make sure that I was comfortable with the accommodations and checked several times to see if I needed anything. I was made to feel like a part of the "family" at the inn, and I enjoyed meeting their pets. All in all, it was a very pleasant and comfortable stay that I had at the Sassafras Inn, and I highly recommend it for your stay!

- julielN1660BN (10/5): Just What the Dr Ordered! - We had a last minute change of plans that brought us to Darren and Jillian at the Sasafrass Inn. So lovely! We stayed in the Magnolia Suite, which was so pretty, comfortable, clean, very spacious and cozy. The king bed is comfortable - we slept like babies. We enjoyed the coffee bar in the room that has assorted teas and coffees. This stay was just what we needed after a hectic few months. I also love it that my border collie was welcome here. When you stay, be sure to get Darren to tell you the best places to eat and to visit. He knows!

The owners were very hospitable and welcoming. They went above and beyond to print out additional information we requested about atv and hiking trails in the area. One of my favorite amenities was the coffee bar! We highly recommend!

- Richard (6/5): - I enjoyed the property, however there were no accessibility considerations. No handrails, no ramp for wheelchair entry, not even a slip mat in the bathtub. I planned this trip for my mother, who is turning 80, and on disability income. It was very difficult for her to go up and down the stairs, and was unable to bathe, as there was no slip mat in the tub.

There was no fruit when we arrived. I called the owner. She said there should always be fresh fruit avaliable. She had the housekeeper bring some fruit. There was also no decaf coffee. I can not have caffeine because of medical issues.

- Jeremy (10/5): We’ll be back! - We’ll be back! This was such the perfect place for us! Let me start by saying - if you’re looking for a full-service, follow you everywhere kind of B&B… this isn’t for you. Everything about our stay with easy. We planned to drive through Mena on our way to pick our little from a nearby camp - so started looking at places to stay in the area. Sassafras is more like an Airbnb than your typical B&B. The hotel sends you a code for the front door - then another door code for your room. You don’t interact with anyone, unless there are other guests. It’s a beautiful place - and over the top clean. The kitchen is open to everyone. There is a cooler stocked with water and juices. Coffee/tea is available for you to make. My only complaint about anything is very personal - there was no creamer available for coffee. And, if that’s the only thing I can complain about - everything else was pretty perfect! We will be back next year on our way back through!

Upstairs suite was cooled with a window unit that was so loud we could not sleep. 35 db (measured with phone app) when off and 53 db (!) when it ran, which was most the night. 1 hour of sleep.... most unhappy with that. Breakfast was a packaged sticky bun or a NutriGrain bar - disappointing. Large and clean bathroom was nice.

We had plenty of room and the hosts, who were not present, left plenty of snacks and drinks. We also sat outside under the small balcony during a rainy evening. Nice place to stay and we would like to go back.

We were in the Veranda suite and enjoyed it all. My only thing was that there were people staying in the same house but behind drapes in the kitchen. So when they emerged at midnight to use brewing tea -- it startled us. We had no idea there was anyone out there since it appeared to be a pantry. Otherwise, excellent place!

- William (8/5): The Sassafras Inn, Mena Arkansas - I arrived late in the evening due to heavy rain and an automobile accident on the road. The manager gave me a code to open the door. I left early, but breakfast was fix your own from the refrigerator. The room was very nice with a connecting bath. I would have preferred the manager on site.

- Penny (10/5): Nice stay for girls trip - Nice B&B. Veranda Room is a beautiful upstairs 2 bedroom with king, 2 twins and sofa. It has a a big bath. Plenty of room to spread out. We loved it!
- Wes B. (10/5): Quiet, relaxing stay - This is a great period home with modern features in the kitchen and bath. It's beautifully furnished! Parking is easy. Drinkks and snacks were plentiful. Everything was clean. We enjoyed the peace and quiet as well as the close proximity to hiking and outdoor activities. You're minutes from the Quachita National Forest. As long you don't mind sharing common space if there are guests in the other bedrooms, it's a great value for a weekend getaway place.

The house is done beautifully and the Fennelwood Suite was perfect for us as we loved being able to sit outside on the back porch. Loved the room and the intimate feel of it! We had a very nice veranda to sit on in the evening. The common area was great for visiting. We had a nice dining table for to go food that gave us a homey atmosphere

I couldn't tell from the listing, but our private bathroom was across the hall from our bedroom and right next door to the kitchen. The only glitch was getting the door code to enter the house. I had to ask several times.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Womderful break from ordinary stays - We stayed at Sassafras Inn while traveling around Arkansas. Our room and the common areas were the loveliest and well done of places we have stayed. Breakfast was continental help yourself, which we did. No interaction with our hosts, but they gave well detailed information once in the Inn.

- Erica (8/5): Nice but not very private - I really liked this place. There a few things that would have made our room situation a little better though - we stayed in the veranda room. It would have been nice if there was a dividing or privacy curtain for that area. Going to and from bathroom was very exposed. Anyone at the dining table has a straight-shot view of the bathroom door. Also we were supposed to have private access to the veranda but other guests used it too. i would still come back though. Dog-friendly room without extra fees. Cute, cozy place. Close to the national park.

- Verified traveler (8/5): - There were a few issues that made the place seem less cared for than others we have stayed in but overall the feel of the inn, was comfortable. There were adequate window coverings which seems not always attended to these days. The “breakfast” is pretty nominal a title but we were in a rush to leave anyway.
