- Paul (10/5): - Warm and friendly great location
- Bernadette (10/5): we enjoyed the simplicity and beauty of this ryokan, and especially appreciated Yoko our host - The ryokan space was beautifully designed, each piece carefully curated. We loved the host, Yoko is a special person: welcoming, gracious and caring and her staff, especially Tomomi was also wonderful there was nothing to criticize; the experience was just perfect for us, especially as we had a seven year old boy with us and they were very accepting of him
- Loredana (10/5): Amazing - This was the best experience we had in Japan. The ryokan was impeccable, and the traditional kaiseki breakfast was absolutely amazing.
Special thanks to our host, Yoko, who was incredibly welcoming and attentive. She made us feel at home from the very beginning, was always available to help, and went out of her way to make our stay truly special. Her kindness and attention to detail made a real difference to our experience. N/A

We can’t fault it in any way, this is a beautiful, peaceful ryokan in a beautiful city. The room was very spacious with a hallway area, bathroom and separate toilet. Breakfast was beautifully presented and very delicious. We wish we could have stayed for longer! Nothing

They pay attention to every single detail, and prepare a fabulous breakfast. Yoko even went above and beyond to write our daughter personalized notes on origami ❤️ I accidentally left my AirPods and Yoko sent them to me via overnight post to Tokyo - truly exceptional service! We can’t wait to return one day. I highly recommend Mitsuki to everyone going to Kyoto, especially for families!
- Donna (10/5): Wonderful - We just loved everything about our stay at Mitsuki. We felt like part of the family and Yoko and Tomini were just delightful. It was sad to leave but one day hope to return. If you are lucky enough to stay here, have the Japanese breakfast and a drink at the bar. Both wonderful experiences. Thanks so much for having us. We loved every minute xx Donna and Jayne xx Nothing at all

From the minute we arrived, Yoko was kind and eager to help us find restaurants and things to do locally. We loved the breakfast she offered, as well as spending evenings at the bar! I would 10/10 recommend this place to everyone visiting Kyoto! She even brought my AirPods to the train station after she noticed I left them on the last day, she is a wonderful human and host! I wish we could have stayed longer!

- Andrea (10/5): Just book it - incredible experience ! - Yoko was INCREDIBLE . She brings the word “host “ to a new level. She gave my dad and I incredible dinner recommendations that lead us to making amazing local friends. Nothing !
- Caitlin (10/5): Lovely ryokan with a wonderful host - This was the first ryokan we ever stayed at and we loved it. Yoko is so warm and welcoming! She speaks perfect English and is a perfect host. She helped us find a good bike rental and forward our luggage, and it's obvious that she cares a lot about her inn and taking care of her guests. We enjoyed talking to her about our day and learning about the ryokan. Yoko's colleague was also super sweet and lovely. We loved the traditional breakfast, it was so tasty and carefully prepared. The room was gorgeous and very clean, and the futon was very comfortable. There was air conditioning which was great since we had hot weather. The location is also excellent in a charming neighborhood with many dining options. When we come back to Kyoto one day, I would love to stay at Mitsuki again. Everything was wonderful.
- Felix (10/5): Our stay at Mitsuki was an highlight of our trip. What a memorable experience, it is way more than just a regular stay a - Everything! From Yoko’s greetings, to the traditional and wonderfully comfortable ameneties, everything was perfect. Yoko was a great host, taking care of everyone and going above and beyong to cater to the needs of her guests. Nothing, our stay was perfect.
- Hoang (10/5): Love this place! - Yoko and Tomomi welcomed us with phenomenal services and hospitality. They were very friendly and caring. The stay was the best stay in my whole Japan trip as Yoko and her team made exceptional efforts to make us feel welcomed. The house was well maintained and beautiful, breakfast was delicious, and location was super convenient for us. Overall, I would really love to come back to Kyoto and stay with their ryokan again. Also, I love that Yoko run a bar inside the ryokan, only 5 seats and open for a short time which made a great cozy vibe, highly recommended for a chill night.

- Jihyeon (10/5): A perfect stay that truly embodied the essence of Kyoto! - Everything! Everything about Mitsuki was just perfect. We had the Japanese breakfast and it was absolutely delicious, beautiful and the great Kyoto culinary experience that exactly we wanted to have in Kyoto (and the menu even changed daily!). The accommodation was really nice and cozy. The bed was super comfy, the room was clean and smelled good. Before staying at Mitsuki, I was little concerned that the room might not be warm enough, but there was underfloor heating in the bedroom, and individual heaters in every space, so there was absolutely no need to worry at all! And we were able to enjoy a small Japanese-style garden from the bedroom, and feel the peaceful atmosphere of Kyoto. The best part about Mitsuki was the staffs: Yoko-san and Tomomi-san. They were incredibly friendly, kind, and supportive. They always greeted us with smiles and warm greetings whenever we went out or came back, making us feel Mitsuki like home. I sincerely appreciate Yoko-san and Tomomi-san for their warm hospitality, professionalism, and kindness. I would definitely want to stay at Mitsuki again if I have the opportunity to visit Kyoto. There was absolutely nothing to dislike. Everything was great and perfect!
- Dylan (10/5): Charming, traditional stay with a hospitable host. - The rooms are cozy, well heated in the winter, with a very comfortable tatami style bedroom.
As others reviews state, the host is exceptional.
Located close to a subway station, and close to the Imperial palace. Nothing.
- hafifah (10/5): - always happy to come back here as it's such a homely and comfortable stay. thank you Yoko and Tomomi for always being so warm and hospitable!
- Thomas (10/5): Incredible stay in a beautiful ryoken with an amazing host - Everything. An amazing stay, our favourite of our two week trip. - Keith (10/5): - A beautiful room in a lovely ryokan with delightful, attentive hosts. A wonderful three-night stay.
- Michael (10/5): Beautiful 150 year old home close to public transit and amazing restaurants, but still quiet and peaceful. - 150 year old building away from the crowded areas, but close to public transit and amazing restaurants. On top of that, the Japanese breakfast is one of the best of my life. Very quiet room, and the air conditioning was able to get very cold, which is a rare find (and a major plus). Nothing, everything was perfect.
- Sébastien (10/5): -
- Maud (10/5): - C'est avec beaucoup d'attention et de sympathie que nous avons été accueillis par Yoko et son équipe.

- Ana Teresa Silveira (10/5): The highlight of our trip to Japan - can't recommend enough - Staying here was truly the highlight of our trip. The ryokan is incredibly beautiful, the room is spacious and private and Yoko was lovely and attentive throughout our stay. She explained everything carefully, helped us secure a dinner reservation nearby, and served us the most wonderful breakfast the next morning. Excellent service throughout, incredible location We don't have anything negative to say!
- Megan (10/5): It was a truly unique experience because Yoko made it so special. - I liked that Mitsuki Kyoto had character and history.
- Francois (10/5): - La propriétaire a été extraordinaire! Nous avons passé un super séjour. C'est vraiment une belle expérience de Ryokan.

The place is super comfortable while staying in a family-owned ryokan. Yoko helped us organize and make reservations for local restaurants. The location is amazing in Kyoto. /
- Lauren (10/5): Stunning traditional ryokan with fantastic hosts - Beautiful traditional ryokan but with modern facilities. Yoko and her team couldn’t have been more accommodating, even allowing me to purchase one of the kimonos we wore to breakfast. It was an expensive stay but totally worth it for one night, to experience the traditional accommodation and food.
- Mistral (10/5): Exceptional Experience - The hosts are lovely and they really make you feel welcome. They have been helpful and available at any moment, and gave great advice on places to visit, how to get around and even where to rent/buy yukatas! Amazing stay, we can’t wait to be back
- Hanno (10/5): Exceptional - Exceptional experience
- Minh (9/5): Superb - Room and facilities are very nice. Really enjoyed the breakfast.
- John (10/5): We wanted to sleep on futons on tatami mats while in Kyoto, a real Japanese experience, and we sooooo lucky to have sta - Yoko! She’s the best, truly made our family feel at home (and if you have ever traveled with kids you know what I mean) We only got to stay 9 nights 😔
- Lew-williams (10/5): Exceptional - This was a true gem! A historic inn with two guest rooms and extremely welcoming hosts. Near a train stop and a bus stop. Perfect for our family with two teens.
- Giada (10/5): True gem in Kyoto - We spent two nights at Mitsuki Kyoto and it was a truly memorable experience. Yoko was an exceptional host. The ryokan’s tranquil aesthetics and beautifully restored traditional architecture made for a peaceful retreat in the heart of Kyoto. The traditional Japanese breakfasts were beautifully presented, fresh, and full of authentic flavors - definitely must-try. Nothing
- Fritz (10/5): Oh Yo Ko in Kyoto. ❤️ - This was a highlight on our trip. Yoko is the most helpful host and we enjoyed our stay immensely. Authentic ryokan experience and the traditional Japanese breakfast a highlight. Helpful with restaurant recommendations and travel arrangements. Thank you Yoko! All good.
- Bryan (10/5): Modern comfort in a beautiful classic house. - Host Yoko has impeccable taste. This ryokan is just gorgeous, a masterpiece of old Japanese woodworking. There are only two guest spaces in the house. The one we had was a large bedroom, separate bathroom, additional toilet room, dressing room, and connecting hallway. All of the fixtures are modern and beautiful, including a deep bath and a high powered shower. Wearing kimonos downstairs for Japanese breakfast was a treat. If you're looking for a traditional experience with fully modern comfort, Yoko's house cannot be beat.
- Areon (10/5): Exceptional - The Japanese breakfast and customer service was amazing! Yoko-san and the Mitsuki staff really made my experience in Kyoto unforgettable!
- Morris (10/5): Excellent in every way; no disappointments. - Location was excellent, very convenient and charming. Nice balance of authentic with modern bath. The bar downstairs was sure a pleasure.
- Ioannis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Perico (10/5): Mitsuki was an amazing stay and was a great first experience in a Ryokan! - Mitsuki Kyoto was an amazing stay that was a great first experience of a “Ryokan.” We opted in for the breakfast which was delicious and traditional! Our hostess was so helpful and made us feel so welcomed. She provided us with green tea when we arrived and held our bags before and after check in. She also gave a us matcha/dinner recommendations that were amazing! We will be back again! Loved everything!
- Maeve (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful traditional Japanese ryokan which was spacious, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The best place we stayed during our 2 weeks in Japan. What truly made it special was Yoko who was the perfect host. She was very welcoming and friendly, spoke great English and gave us some fantastic recommendations of places to eat in the local area which we would never have found otherwise (Yoko even contacted the restaurants to make reservations for us). We would definitely stay again!
- Stephen (10/5): Best Ryokan in Kyoto! - Very clean facilitiies, super friendly host and a great experience overall. it was very close to a station as well. it also had heating and AC which is a great plus!
- Andrew (10/5): Exceptional - After a five weeks and many wonderful experiences in Japan- Mitsuki Ryokan is without question my favorite stay. In the mornings enjoy breakfast served to your room (tea and Japanese breakfast). In the evenings enjoy a crisp highball in the intimate bar before heading out. I will miss Yoko and Tomomi!
- Keith (10/5): Exceptional -
- Racquel (10/5): Exceptional - Yoko was fabulous ! And so was everything about the experience of staying in a Ryokan.
- Eve (10/5): Exceptional - The ryokan is beautiful, quaint, and comfortable. It’s family-owned and the host Yoko is warm, courteous, and extremely helpful. The location is very convenient—it’s walking distance to major sights and just around the corner from a train station.
- Victor (10/5): If you can book this then you should for an authentic and high class experience in Kyoto - I could not recommend this place enough. The ryokan is traditional style but newly made with very high quality and super clean. Great quiet area with lovely small restaurants, tea shops and wine bars near by. Also lovely walking or running in imperial park near by. We slept super well (unlike at other ryokans we stayed at). Breakfast is also AMAZING. You can choose Japanese or western - both fantastic. But what really makes this place is Yoko who runs it. She speaks very good English and gives an amazing service and recommendations and is lovely to talk to. She runs a tiny cute bar downstairs which is great for a nightcap. Everything was 10/10
- Selcuk (10/5): Feels like home in Kyoto - An amazing experience from start to finish. If you’ve ever dreamed of staying in a traditional Japanese ryokan, Mitsuki makes it even more special with exceptional comfort and an incredible host who makes you feel at home. Truly unforgettable.
- Jen (10/5): Amazing hidden gem - A must stay location - Everything about our stay was amazing. The hosts were amazing & always there to welcome us when we returned each say after exploring the city. The locations bar was an added bonus for a good night cap.
- Ryan (9/5): Beautiful experience - Fabulous place, extremely relaxing, beautiful room and bath. Owner very warm and helpful. Everything extremely clean. Situated in a pleasant central neighborhood that isn't overrun with tourists, but easy access to main tourist sites by foot, subway, bus or cab. 2 minutes walk to subway.
- Helena (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent breakfast, comfortable room and extremely kind staff.
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - The staff is incredibly warm, and the room is charming!
- Harriet (10/5): The greatest - Not only is this the most beautiful and special place to stay, Our hosts Yoko and tomomi were exceptional and made our stay absolutely unforgettable. We used all of Yoko’s recommendations for tea ceremony and dinners out. I cannot express how much we loved it. The location is amazing and there is nowhere else I would want to stay in Kyoto for a traditional but comfortable and wonderous experience.
- Erin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Thomas (10/5): First class experience at a first class Kyoto Ryokan - This was truly a wonderful experience! As both a "Ryokan stay" as well as a great place to relax, all expectations were met and exceeded. Coming up from running the Tokyo Marathon, a Kyoto Ryokan is a great place to chill out from frenetic Tokyo. If you've not stayed at a Ryokan, make sure to look at the pictures to understand what a Ryokan is meant to represent. Having stayed at Ryokans before, I can confidently say that Mitsuki was the best of all. There is a loving attention to detail, super clean, and above all a great feeling of peace. Yoko and Tomomi san were the absolute best hosts and encompassed the spirit the well defines Mitsuki. Plus they helped me with my beginner Japanese. :-) Kyoto is a wonderful town to visit, and Mitsuki is well placed for easy access to both attractions and transit. The actual location is on a peaceful street, it was great to be able to sleep in a very quiet place. I enjoy sleeping on a futon, that's generally part of staying at a Ryokan. Also, the provided Japanese breakfast was first class, I really enjoyed that. Believe they bring in a professional chef to make that meal. All the photos on Booking show well what you will get when you arrive and stay. I look forward to coming back, I've set it as a goal for next year. Many thanks to Yoko and Tomomi san! 最高でした -Tom Nothing other than booking a longer stay. I'll do that next time.
- Jasmine (10/5): Exceptional - We really enjoyed our stay here. Our area of the ryokan was large with multiple sections, and very comfy beds. The property itself is beautiful and Yoko was an excellent host! We had spent a few nights in the southern part of the city already, and found the northern end of Kyoto where this stay is to be a bit less convenient for accessing bars/ restaurants/ cafes. It is however very close to a metro station (4min walk) so all in all no issues.
- Anand (10/5): Exceptional -
- Michael (10/5): Amazing ryokan experience - One of the best places I’ve ever stayed. Yoko is the kindest, nicest host and super helpful. The property itself is immaculate, comfortable (plenty of heating for winter), and exactly the kind of ryokan experience we were hoping for. It’s also a very short walk to the main metro line and surrounded by incredible, local restaurants and izakayas. The ryokan also has a bar with a great selection of Japanese alcohols. Highly recommend, looking forward to coming back. Absolutely nothing!
- Claire (10/5): By staying here, we were able to experience the beautiful Kyoto hospitality, culture and tradition. - This is a beautiful, traditional place to stay and we will never forget it. The flower arrangements and wall hangings are lovely, as are the pieces of pottery at breakfast and for tea. The neighborhood has several historical sites and incredible places to eat within walking distance, and is great for access to local transportation to get to various palaces and pavilions. Yoko is a wonderful host and made us feel so welcome. The traditional Japanese breakfast was beautiful, tasty, healthy and filling. For us, sleeping on traditional futon mattresses on the tatami mat floor was very comfortable and added to the experience. This is just something to be aware of if you have mobility challenges.
- Binh (9/5): Superb - The host and staff was so helpful during my stay. They helped me navigate luggage transfers and the first day in Kyoto. I felt welcomed since they would greet me every morning when I left and evening when I got back. Amazing hospitality and I would stay here again! The location is also great, lots of good restaurants and eateries that you can just wander into.
- Mateusz (10/5): Exceptional - The Ryokan experience was excellent. I loved the feel, and how welcome our host was.
The futon sleep was very comfortable! - something I didn't expect and came by a surprise.
The property is extremely clean.
We felt very welcomed, and like at home.
This is the top #1 place to come back to if I ever come back to Japan.
Thank you for such a great experience 🙏
- Edward (10/5): A wonderful ryokan in the heart of Kyoto - Our stay at Mistuki was just perfect. Yoko was a wonderful host, making us immediately feel right at home and comfortable. The old house is beautiful with a very traditional Japanese feel. The property is tastefully and traditionally decorated and the rooms come with great amenities, comfortable futon beds, and other things you’d expect from a nice hotel. Would highly recommend having breakfast at the property which was delicious and very carefully prepared. Highly recommend a stay at Mitsuki while you’re in Kyoto! Nothing!

- June (10/5): Exceptional - Everyone was very accommodating and kind. The room was comfortable, the bathroom was large, and the futons were very soft and cozy. The breakfast was also great! If you want to try staying in a wooden townhouse, I'd recommend Mitsuki Kyoto easily. :>
As others have mentioned, the hosts are the best part!
- Jordan (10/5): This wonderful ryokan really felt like home - Everything at the Mitsuki was wonderful. The property is a beautiful example of traditional Japanese craftsmanship with modern amenities. The staff is fantastic; incredibly helpful and kind, and chatting with them over our meticulously prepared breakfast was a lovely way to start each morning.
- Colleen (10/5): Exceptional - The location was pretty close to the metro station, and the location was right next to my favorite matcha place - Yugen! The ryokan stay was absolutely amazing! Yoko was such a great host, always providing us with so much advice and tips to explore our first trip to Kyoto! The staff are also super friendly, and I highly recommend eating the breakfast. It's $15 additional per day, but it was worth! The stay was so peaceful and comfortable with such clean rooms and many amenities, and having the garden view in our room made our stay extra special!
- Francisco (10/5): Amazing stay, 100% recommend it and will come back for sure! - The host was amazing, welcomed us very well and gave us great suggestions. The facilities are lovely and very traditional, and super comfortable (most likely the best bed I’ve slept in for a long time). Breakfast is amazing, another full local experience. While the property is well located, you may need to get a metro/ bus to go to Gion / Pontocho, is not walking distance. Anyway it is totally worth it as you are close to other areas such as Nijo & Nishiki Market
- Hakim (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful traditional Ryokan! Very beautiful space, comfortable beds and an amazing hostess in Yoko-San!
Thank you so much the lovely stay.
- Hafifah (10/5): Exceptional - great location, i could walk to almost everywhere i wanted to go; otherwise, the subway and buses were easily accessible. the room is cute, clean and comfortable. Yoko and her team make my stay wonderful, with little catch-ups at breakfast or when i get back after a day out. it was a lovely stay, i miss the place already! -
- Alex (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts were absolutely inc
- Ana (10/5): Beautiful traditional Japanese inn with great location - Third time staying at this quintessential traditional Japanese inn, complete with a futon bed, which was fluffy and warm. The garden view from the room was exceptional. Location was great, within walking distance of the Imperial Palace and Garden, tucked away in a quiet Kyoto alley, but is only 3min walk away from subway station. Breakfast was superb. Service was above and beyond. Nothing.
- Alexis (10/5): Such a lovely time in a cozy and peaceful atmosphere! - This was my favorite stay during my first Japan trip. Yoko our host was so lovely and gracious. I really appreciated the comfy beds, the skincare products, and the breakfast was divine. We only stayed one night but I would love to stay longer on my next trip! Nothing! Such a peaceful retreat!
- Gayle (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robin (9/5): This was a beautiful, two night stay in a traditional ryokan. - What a lovely stay! Yoko was the consummate host, and the property was very comfortable. The room was on the smaller side, but it was very cozy, and overlooked a beautiful garden. The Yukata in the room was the most comfortable and beautiful I found on my whole vacation. I wore it as much as I could! Access to both the room and the main building was easy, and it was so quiet. Very peaceful. And the bathtub was dreamy! It was probably the cleanest bathroom and bathtub I have seen in any accommodation. Not really anything! It was a wonderful stay.
- Jade (10/5): Exceptional -
- Per (10/5): Good value for money. The hostess was amazing and spoke excellent English. The Japanese breakfast was superb. I will ret - Authentic town house Ryokan in Kyoto with a nice tsuboniwa (Kyoto town house garden). Nothing
