- Karla (10/5): A wonderful traditional experience and beautiful location. - Wonderful hospitality and staff at this ryoken. It’s is a beautiful place to spend time, right be the river, with lots of history in the building. Such a special place, traditional experience.

- Ayala (10/5): Outstanding vegetarian food and hospitality - Exceptional hospitality, outstanding food, accommodated our vegetarian diet and presented some of the most exceptional meals we’ve ever had.
- Frances (10/5): Fabulous stay in a ryokan in Hida - A really wonderful experience. The ryokan is set by the river with the red bridge and is welcoming and special from arrival. The staff, Rumi and Keito met us and explained everything. There are 3 rooms. We had the ground level one. Superb. With its own onsen. The other two rooms are lovely but both have stairs up to the bedroom. They share the public onsen. The beds are comfortable the pyjamas and yakata lovely to wear. We wore them to dinner! The included dinner , Kaiseki style, was fabulous. Many little courses reflecting local foods presented beautifully. We all loved it. Breakfast is Japanese style food which may not be for everyone but we loved it. Everything was just right. Though I didn’t have stairs to the bathroom at night.
- Alina (10/5): Absolutely wonderful stay at Busuitei — beautiful and historic building; warm, welcoming hospitality; delicious meals - Beautiful and historic ryokan right at the confluence of two rivers with wonderful food and hospitality
- Chabert de Radzitzky (10/5): - My second stay here, because the first one was fantastic. I wasn't disappointed, I love this place! Very welcoming and kind people, fantastic food, quiet, just a perfect moment!
- Brubaker (10/5): -
- Ann (10/5): Amazing staff! - Staff were so friendly and helpful! They made our stay feel so special, like we were the most important guests! Thank you

- Silvestro (10/5): Beyond all expectations - I loved everything. Wonderful experience and great staff. I am really happy I chose them.
- Stefanie (8/5): Very good - Very traditional, very big room, great food (Traditional japanese) The mattress in the bed is not comfortable anymore (seems to be old and needs to be renewed)
- Ognjen (5/5): Wonderful staff but expensive for what they offer and some things need looking at - The staff were wonderful and incredibly accommodating. The location at a confluence of a river was pretty unique and beautiful. We struggled to sleep as there were scratching noises near the beds which we assumed were either birds nests or vermin within the walls beneath the rafters. The balcony had what appeared to be droppings so we weren’t sure if it was related. We informed the hotel the next day to look into it so hopefully they will. The property generally was more dated than what the photos suggest.
- Jonathas (9/5): Best experience in Japan - The room and the services were exceptional, can’t fault anything. It was by far the best hotel I ever stayed in. Breakfast offered was quite exotic, but this itself wasn’t a fault of the hotel but my own difficulty with dealing with breakfast in Japan overall. I wish there was an option to bypass rice, fish and soy dishes in the breakfast and explore more fruits, bread, eggs, coffee and tea.
- Joe (10/5): Great friendly people/staff. Food and facilities were all amazing. - Our stay was authentic Japanese, food and building. Exactly what we were after. Apart from the beds being a bit hard, everything else was great.
- Angie (10/5): Delicious meals. Spacious traditional Japanese room with floor to ceiling windows. Nice views. - Exceptional meals with seasonal and local ingredients. We had been looking forward to the meals as we understood this hotel is a '料理旅館' (literally dining hotel) from its Japanese name. Exceeded our expectations as it's delicious and special (not the typical Kaiseki). Very spacious family room with our own internal corridor, floor to ceiling windows, overlooking the river. Nice views in the snow!
- Faith (10/5): If you need a rest this is a lovely hotel in a quiet beautiful village. - Everyone was extremely kind and thoughtful.
We enjoyed the comfy beds and the ensen. I have no complaints. It’s very authentic so if you’re looking for western hotel this is not it.
- Ailish (10/5): The ryokan is amazing, beautiful views and very friendly staff and towns people! - Everything was exceptional
- Kristi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Opher (10/5): Great escape - Charming and located in the most beautiful village. Staff were very nice and welcoming
- David (10/5): Relaxing getaway in a dignified and charming Ryokan. - The food and service were excellent. The staff went above and beyond. They even tracked us down after checkout to return an item we left behind.
- Alina (10/5): Exceptional - Incredible stay at Busuitei! The hosts were very hospitable and helped us enjoy every moment of our stay.
It only took us 8 minutes to get to the hotel from the railway station. This ryokan is a 150 year old building located in a very picturesque part of Hida Furukawa. Our room had an amazing view to the Japanese garden, river, shrine and Hida mountains.
We also loved the family bath and enjoyed an exquisite dinner with Hida beef, medical herbs and different types of miso.
Breakfast was served by a very nice lady in a separate room with a lovely view.
It’s definitely 10/10 for me. Thank you, Busuitei.
- Maksim (10/5): Incredible stay at Busuitei! The hosts were very hospitable and helped us enjoy every moment of our stay. It only took - Service
Food
The view Everything was great
- Ratti (10/5): Incredible stay immersed in traditional Japanese setting! - Basuitei was such an incredible experience, truly authentic and the staff was super friendly and made the stay extra special. The place was fantastic, right next to the river and temple, really conveniently located in the town centre. The food was extraordinary, so many incredible, tasty, healthy dishes that came one after the other during the dinner in the private room overlooking the river. The building itself looks quite old, full of lovely antiques, traditional furniture and ceramics. Such A wonderful stay we will remember ! Maybe the beds could have been a bit comfier but a part from that everything was perfect.
- Wei (10/5): Unbelievable meal, best of the best!!! - One of the best meal I ever had in my life! We arrived quite late and hosts still take the time to walked us through the facility to welcome us then serve the dinner. The 12 course dinner was unforgettable and each of the dish was truely made with the best local ingredients and the craftmanship of masterchefs. You can see and feel and taste the food, knowing that the hosts are truely offering you the best of the best they have. We are definitely coming back again! I needed to get something from the car after midnight, but didn't know how to get out of the front door. The lights were all shut and I was too afraid to wake up the whole house (It's my own fault).
- Tina (10/5): Super! - The place is beautiful and the owners are very friendly and kind! They welcomed us with the traditional tea, matcha latte and some sweets. For dinner and breakfast they served traditional dishes (a lot of different foods) and we were super happy to try them. One of the owners even translated some of the special ingredients into our native language! Really nice and respectful of him!
We really recommend a stay at Busuitei.
- Katrien (9/5): Great authentic Japanese style hotel with ver friendly service - A large Japanese style sitting room and separate bedroom. Large Japanese style breakfast served in a private room. Great lobby and very friendly hosts. A 10 minute walk from the station near 1 of the tempels, a short walk from all sightseeing sites.
- Florent (9/5): Amazing stay if you want to take some rest and stay away from the crowd. - The owners are really kind. The property is amazing and the food is amazing. Not so much things to do in hida.
- Rachel (10/5): Exceptional -
- Victoria (9/5): Superb - Beautiful location and environment, staff were very friendly and helpful, good facilities in the room and ryokan No menu provided during dinner so hard to know pacing of meal, drinks ordered at dinner are on top (note the menu has prices but this is not disclosed clearly)
- Gary (8/5): Staying at Busuitei was a highlight of a wonderful week in Japan. - Wonderful service and experience. Feels like a true traditional Japanese Inn honoring traditions and treating guests like VIPs. It’s an old building and with that old building charm comes some old building smell. Not bad but noticeable.
- Mary (10/5): Amazing. Charming. Peaceful. Delicious gourmet food. - such a beautiful location on a river with views of mountains and a shrine. the home is 150 years old and totally authentic in style and furnishings. very quiet and peaceful. Our rooms were large enough for 4 adults (2 on futons) or a family. There was a separate bedroom as well as a living area, Nothing to complain about. the hosts and all service was personal and gracious.
- Lucy (10/5): beautiful traditional inn in a lovely part of japan. a nice change of pace from the big cities and a unique way to exper - beautiful location, friendly staff, comfy beds, nice amenities unfortunate dinner was not included in the price but it was worth the extra charge
- Nevil (10/5): Wonderful place. - Absolutely beautiful place. A classic Japanese style ryokan with modern amenities such as western beds, private toilet and electric heaters. (As well as the ultra-cosy kotatsu!)
Impeccable service and friendly welcome from host and staff.
Communication is fine with a few Japanese words and Google Translate to hand.
(A little reading up on Ryokan etiquette and manners are recommended for the uninitiated.)
The Japanese breakfast sets you up for a day exploring the area. Or just spend your time in your own bubble soaking up the views and atmosphere.
