• Ioannis (7/5): - Η τοποθεσία. Βρίσκεται δίπλα στην όμορφη πλατεία της Φωκίωνος Νέγρη. Το ένα κομοδίνο ήθελε επισκευή. Δεν είχε παντόφλες μιας χρήσης στο δωμάτιο και έπρεπε να τις ζητήσεις από τη ρεσεψιόν. Δεν είχε σαμπουάν για τα μαλλιά, αλλά αντ' αυτου είχε δύο αφρόλουτρα.

The room had an unbearable smell and I couldn’t figure out where it was coming from — possibly the carpet. The walls also had dampness, and overall the room needs renovation. For the price you don’t expect anything luxurious, but not something in this condition.

• Sarah (8/5): - Hotel is family run and everyone was very very helpful from travel tips to where to eat. The whole of Athens is full of tired buildings and graffiti, it’s not limited to this area. I’d read earlier reviews about safety however it’s opposite a police station and the biggest reviews tell you not to go to places that are unlit etc we didn’t feel unsafe at all as we kept to the main streets. I travelled back alone from a concert and felt fine. Tip download the Freenow taxi app you see what the trip will cost and can book in advance for local trips. It’s also worth using the hotels pick up airport service because despite what it says on general sites about a flat rate from the airport that’s not the case and many people from the airport had a different experience and different rates that you felt you didn’t have a choice but to pay so use the hotels service we used it going back and it’s an agreed rate arrived in plenty of time and was great. It’s a budget hotel however for somewhere in Athens out of the main city I think it’s a good option for those on a city break. You couldn’t ask for more helpful staff. The local restaurants are local! Meaning that they don’t display menus and hassle you inside and all the locals eat there which is always a good sign. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Must try is the cake shop nearby Max Perry unbelievable cakes and ice cream and for small cakes literally a few euros for cake heaven! Great few days thank you.

• Demetrios (10/5): - The staff was very friendly. There was no breakfast, but it is two short blocks away from the upscale Kipselis restaurant area. I always walked the km from the metro station, but there is also a bus stop a block away. Not a noisy area.
• anastasiya (8/5): - I had a great stay here overall! The room was spacious and comfortable, with a nice carpet, mirror, and bed. The tables were handy, though I do wish there had been a few drawers for storage. The shower is on the smaller side, so it may be a little tight for bigger-sized guests, but it worked fine for me. The closet hook was also a bit too high, though the shelves made up for it. The staff were very nice and welcoming. I didn’t need much assistance during my stay, but they let me know I could always ask if I did. Overall, a really pleasant stay with just a couple of small observations.

We arrive too early and they accomodated us even it is not time to check in when they saw us too tired from our trip. Room is very clean and sorroundings although it is outdated, everything you need is there esp it is close to everything like metro, restaurants, banks, groceries & more. Overall excellent and saved some money. Excellent for the price.

• Leonie (10/5): Exceptional - After reading several reviews on Booking.com, Google & Trip Advisor, I wasn‘t sure what to expect, since some of them are extremely negative. After my stay I can tell for sure that Semeli Hotel is a great place to stay in one of the nicest districts of Athens. The neighbourhood is lively and safe. I don’t understand why some of the reviews call the neighbourhood dangerous etc. Kipseli is super. Near by, there are plenty of nice Cafés, Bistrots, stores and several bus connections to every region of Athens. The staff is the best, generous and always present. The furniture is not new, but charming. Roomservice does a great job daily. I would certainly recommend a stay and come back! (Only thing: In the rooms with the category „budget“, there is a smell of old smoke. We‘ve stayed there for some nights and opening the windows now and then - which is possible even in summer because the budget rooms are on the first floor where it is rather cool climate even on hot days, which is really pleasant - made it way better. If you can‘t stand the smoke of cigarettes, I would recommend booking a room in the category „superior“, which is only some € more. We switched the room after four nights when we extended our stay and there was no smell of smoke in the new room.)

The hotel could do with some refurbishment. Tea making facilities in the rooms? I have stayed here before and would certainly stay again.

The bathtub was a very strange shape and could only be used sitting down, even for showers. The plug also didn't work. There were no sockets next to the top end of the bed to plug in phones.

• david duane (4/5): - As soon as I entered the room I could smell a faint musky odor like wet smoke, the carpet was horribly stained, the closet door knob came off in my hand, the toilet lid was loose and kept sliding around, the room needed painting as the paint was faded, the bathroom sink faucet was loose and flopped around when you tried to use it and the shower was tiny and leaked all over the floor when you took a shower. I complained to the check -in person and told me the carpets were clean just discolored and I should buy a throw rug from a market up the street to cover it up. I aked for another room and he told me they didnt have any and the room was still usable. Being exhausted from the long flight I stayed that night and the next day I made a reservation for another place and left the day after. Worst hotel I have ever stayed at!

• Tom (10/5): - The Semeli was what we needed since it had a 24 hour desk. The staff was very good at answering questions and helping with transportation. The hotel is much nicer than the street it is on which is cluttered with dysfunctional scooters. Despite the appearance, there is a police station across the street so it is safe. The room was nice and you have maid service every day. The only disappointment at the Semeli was that the mattress was uncomfortable.

I missed to have a water cooker or kettle to make tea in the morning…. but this is only a personal preference and wish.

The first set of bedsheets had a slight smell of smoke, even though we were in a non-smoking room. This was fixed for the second night when they changed the sheets. Overall the hotel is decent, considering that it is quite cheap.

• Joshua (2/5): - I did not have a good experience at all. I booked 6 nights and only stayed 1 because of how bad my room was. It was dirty and smelled of smoke, even though it was supposed to be no smoking. There were stains everywhere, the A/C was blocked by broken blinds so it wasn’t really working, and overall did not match was the booking pictures describe. I was offered no change of room, and when I complained with pictures, they just brushed me off. No partial refund/compensation or accommodation of any kind.
• Tomasz (10/5): Nice hotel with a very good location - Location is good, 15 mins walking from the metro station, lots of shops, supermarkets and cafes in the area. We felt safe because there was police station just opposite the hotel. :) The room had all facilities needed, it was big and comfortable. The price was good. Wifi connection could be more reliable - internet disappears sometimes.

Only the refrigerator, air conditioner and TV were connected to the electricity, and one of the devices had to be disconnected to charge the mobile phone or laptop!
