Guest Reviews
- Elder (8/5): - We stayed in the first floor room. It was nice.
Close to dining area. Enjoyed breakfast with the other guests.
The suitcase stands were very helpful. The mattress wasn't great.
L’horreur . Je me demande si elle était à jeun toutefois ….

- Gerald Sheppard (4/5): If I never go to Boston again it’s too soon. - Honestly, I want to be honest. We came to Boston for only one reason, to catch a flight to Paris. Going we shopped prices, staying at the Marriott Courtyard, shuttle provided, the only valuable part of the stay. We are Marriott members, this hotel was not up to standard. We heard off reservations on our return layover, BOS hotel prices increased in our 5 weeks in Europe alarmingly plus MA robs visitors in added taxes. So we switched to Booking.com that we use occasionally and we are stock holders. We looked at this place, we saw the price was significantly less, we read the glowing reviews, even realizing we had a transportation problem, the B&B being only 4.1 miles, how awful could that be? I’ll tell ya! Thirty bucks each way. So we arrive from Paris the day we stayed at this B&B a bit past noon. Luggage in hand, we called the B&B, explained our situation to hear there was absolutely no way the set rules would be bent, we also learned it was a no host check in, we were on our own and don’t show up prior to 4pm. We have already paid the money. So we went to the USO and sat for a few hours. We took a taxi to this place. Instructions were attached beside the front doors. Lots of rules, do’s and don’t’s. We get inside this try to figure out where room #3 was located. A person partially opens door, explains we were on the second floor, our personal bathroom was down the hall, the inside of the home was chilly. No heat yet turned on! We lugged our luggage up stairs. I refrain from giving my opinion on the room. I was beside myself. My spouse brought it to my attention, we’ve paid for the room, we’ve spent a fortune getting here, let’s deal with it. I complained about the temperature, a tenant told me too early to turn on heat, the price of heating fuel is through the roof. I was informed a space heater was in the closet for our use. We went out for a bite to eat. We returned and exhausted fell asleep. I ran outta space to finish. I turned on the space heater, that tripped the circuit breaker in our room, we used our iPhone light to pack and leave asap, we waited then another 5 hours at the airport. You be the judge. I was familiar with Winthrop years previously. I have to laugh. The B&B concluded my response was primarily due to my trip getting to this establishment. I was being charitable. This place doesn’t even come close to the Booking.com reviews I read. I have been in the travel industry my entire life, a five star Mariner with Holland America, cruised around the world not once but twice, visited over sixty countries, retired airline pilot, I’ve stayed in a couple hotels. BOS hotels prices spiked this time period, I simply refused to spend what the major hotels were charging. I admit, my choice was a big mistake.

- Guest (8/5): A lovely well kept property in a nice, quiet neighborhood. - The check in process was simple and easy which was nice after a day of traveling. The room I stayed in was spacious, comfortable and had views of the ocean from the window. The room was tidy, the bathroom was clean and the powder room was a nice touch!
My mother and I were the only ones going down for breakfast (everyone else was in/out), Joan being the sweetheart that she is, made us breakfast fresh every morning! Even with options available, Joan always asked what she could make for us and I thought that was a very kind gesture!
The property sits on the corner of two streets and is very easy to get to. The neighborhood is quiet and friendly, the ocean is about a block away and the airport is about 10-15 minutes away depending on traffic. Navigating around the Winthrop area was easy and I suggest renting a car if you’re staying for a few days (uber gets expensive).
I’ve read some of the past reviews and I want to clear some things up seeing as I just stayed here..
-Yes, you can hear airplanes most of the day/night, it does stop briefly early morning hours before picking back up again. If you are a light sleeper, this property is NOT for you. Personally, I would consider myself a light sleeper but I had the ceiling fan on low as well as the electric fireplace heater, I slept good.
-No one shares a bathroom! Your room either has its own bathroom or the bathroom you would be using is within close proximity to your room. Again, only you using it.
-Breakfast was always ready to go right on time. Aside from the options that were meant to be cold, the food served was hot and fresh.
-Joan has updated most of the house, the current pictures don’t reflect how it looks now. Joan has done a lovely job of maintaining this large property and making it as comfortable as a stay as possible. It’s an older property with real wood floors, it’s going to make noise when someone is walking!
I hope this clears the air & encourages you to stay! I personally wasn’t bothered by anything during my stay.
- Mack (9/5): Highly recommend - Proximity to airport
Superior room Noise from airplanes

- Bart (6/5): A little quirky with the rules. Would not stay again. - Place was nice and a good location for people flying out of Logan Airport. It was heated by a space heater that the host said needed to be “watched” - not to be left on while we were out and not to be left on while we were sleeping. Odd. Also breakfast was “included”, but we had an early flight (as I suppose many people would that book here). So no breakfast was available, not even coffee, although there was a drip coffeemaker in the kitchen and we would have gladly made our own. So breakfast included is a bit disingenuous. Lastly there was a dirty facecloth left next to the toilet when we arrived.
- Geoffrey (9/5): - Close to the airport. Easy to get to Logan for an early flight Plane noise was present but too bad
- Joan (6/5): Overpriced but near airport with comfortable bed - Proximity to the beach and town. Although it was raining so hard we didn’t see either. Close to airport. Bed and linens were good. $200 seems like a lot for the size room we were in where I could barely squeeze between the bed and tv to climb into bed. The whole property reminds me of an old movie with the common rooms stuffed to the gills with mementos from another era.

- Guest (7/5): The location made it easy to get to airport. The host really did a great job opening her home up to travelers. I’d recom - Beautiful home, well appointed rooms, and loved the salty sea air upon arrival! Directions were mostly clear. I didn’t know I was supposed to look at the front door for information, but once I got it, it made sense and check in was easy. Privacy was well respected even in a shared home environment. Lovely neighborhood and grateful for parking! It was easy to get to the airport, which is why I chose this location. Breakfast pickings were very slim, such that I didn’t have anything to eat. At 9:20, exactly halfway through the breakfast period, all that was left was toast and half a cup of coffee - and I don’t eat bread. The bathroom was great, but I had mixed messages about whether it was private for our use or not. The planes were definitely loud, but expected.
- Lyn (9/5): Would have been happy to stay longer, as it was a very comfortable and welcoming property. Would definitely look at stay - Very pretty house, eclectic decor, easy to find location and super convenient for the airport. That also means you are aware of the aircraft activity, as you can watch it across the bay, but not a problem for me personally. Lovely breakfast, and comfortable home from home setting. I arrived late and only met who I think was the owner briefly in the morning, but communication was good and very friendly. The only tiny niggle was parking could have been a little tight if there had been other cars, for me anyway. But it wasn’t anything that detracted from a very short but sweet stopover.
- Diane (9/5): Beautiful home with a nice breakfast. - Great location, beautiful home. Nice breakfast. Our room was rather small and didn’t have much room to spread out. But we were thankful to get it at such a busy time of year.
- Heidi (10/5): - Very quaint and cute bed and breakfast with fun view of the bay and airplanes landing, cute restaurants nearby and super close to the airport. Great price for accommodations near Logan for early morning flight.
- Nancy (7/5): Joan has a beautiful home, she’s was a great host. - The location was perfect. Nothing.
- Melinda (10/5): We loved it and the beds were very comfy! Wonderful host! We would stay again! - Friendly and very accommodating.
- Linda (6/5): - The breakfast, sausage and eggs, was cold, sitting on a cold plate, help yourself.
No staff.
The room had a/c but it is stuffy and the shag carpet smells awful.
- van Lieshout (8/5): A very comfortable stay in a quiet neighborhood that is walkable and has restaurants in the area. - On this particular visit we had to check out too early for breakfast. The sheets had an unpleasant musty odor.
- Sally (9/5): -
- Yaroslav (6/5): - The breakfast was good. But you have to remember that it starts at 8:30AM, if you have to leave earlier you may leave without it... The place is not clean, unfortunately.
- Gary (9/5): That good next time in Boston I'd stay here again - Breakfast missing some bits..location fairly good but bit of a hike from the centre..only reason I didn't score it higher Distance from centre and poor public transport links.taxi numbers were in the room to be fair.
- van Lieshout (10/5): Very comfortable, quiet and hospitable - The bedroom decor makes it feel like a home and not a sterile hotel. The breakfast options included eggs and meat, yogurt, fruit, cereal and bread. Nothing.
- John (10/5): Delightful, quick overnight from Logan. We prefer an historic home over some glass box. - Joan has marvelously restored this house. Our room with ensuite was very comfortable. We liked the friendly walkable neighborhood. Delicious breakfast right on time.
- CHIN-YU (5/5): - The room is over-sold, can not be accommodated. don't know
- YOONJI (10/5): -
- Paul (10/5): - Property owner Joan was very welcoming and helpful. When in the area, I will stay here again. I highly recommend it.
- Ann (7/5): -
- Sherryl (8/5): Only spent one night as a stopover in Boston before our flight to Europe next day. It was in a nice neighborhood. - Older stately home not far from Logan airport. The breakfast was great— eggs, sausage, toast, fruit, yogurt, cereal, juice, coffee and tea— all these and more were available. The owner made us breakfast earlier than the stated time and was very friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed taking with her. The room we stayed in was upstairs so carrying our suitcases wasn’t so easy. (heavy!)
- Frank (7/5): Our needs were met and we had no complaints. Lovely environment. - First time at a B&B. Don't have anything to compare it to. However, it met our needs...a bed, an air conditioner and a bathroom in our room. We were only there for 9 hours, of which 8 we slept. Unusual check in and out, but it worked. They trusted, which is unusual in this day and age. The owner did take time to say goodbye to us as we were leaving, which was pleasant and thoughtful.
- Jordi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vicki (8/5): Very good - Lovely location
Friendly host
Good breakfast Our bathroom was separate to the room but it was private to us.
Coffee available in breakfast room early but we were not made aware of this
- Joseph (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chris (8/5): A comfortable stay in an excellent location a $24 taxi ride from Logan. - A large and comfortable room with a/c and a private bathroom. No facilities in room for making coffee and house coffee not available until 7 am
- Marie (10/5): Exceptional - Great location
Clean and comfortable
- Nicole (8/5): Very good - A nice B&B. Clean comfortable and Joan the host was very helpful. Close to the airport. Nice neighbourhood.
- Gisela (8/5): - Lovely Inn. A bit too loud for my taste due to airport noise.
- Margaret (10/5): Gracious host and pretty site combined to make for an enjoyable stay. - The proximity to Logan Airport attracted me, and it was perfect. The bedroom and dining room are furnished beautifully. Breakfast was great - healthy, on time, tasty, and more than I could finish. Easy walk to several local restaurants was a bonus! No complaints!
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- George (7/5): see above - close to Logan , clean and friendly owner This property felt more like a private room in a household rather than a B and B . My Room was # 4 and was located right off of the dining/breakfast room and was quite small . Im pretty sure it was a maids quarters originally and due to its location , I was happy there weren’t other guests having an early breakfast . The bed was Queen sized I believe and entry and exit was difficult on one side of the bed because it was so close to a shelving unit and the TV . I was a solo traveler so it really wasn’t much of a problem , but I’m glad I didn’t have to share this room with a spouse .
The breakfast was definitely Continental Style and didn’t start until 8:30 , the time I had arranged to have a taxi pick me up for the Airport . The Hostess Owner was kind enough to make me some eggs to go along with my toast and coffee …much appreciated as I had a long day of air travel ahead of me .
There were quite a few Rules listed that made it feel, again , like I was staying in a private residence . No early or late checkin/out , no baggage leaving possibility even for a few hours . no meet and greet , rather a note on the front door with a security code for entry .
All in all I didn’t think that my ‘Delux double room ‘ was worth the cost . On my return overnight stay near Logan , I booked a room in a chain hotel with a convenient Free Shuttle Service ( the taxi , round-trip to the Band B and Logan was $48 ! ). The hotel room was 3 x s the size of the B and B , clean and modern amenities and I got a free late check out time , they stored my bags while I walked into town for lunch and then took the free shuttle to Logan airport .All of this for the same price as the Chateau du Mer .
- Rachel (7/5): Good -
- Larry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Doug (10/5): - I
- Agnes (8/5): Great location, for visiting Boston, and close to the beach. - Location. Bed a little hard, I personally like a softer mattress.
- Anonymous (1/5): Bad - Received an email less than 72 hours before check in saying they were overbooked and had to cancel my reservation. These things happen but they were not helpful at all and offered no compensation to make up for this inconvenience, leaving me scrambling to find last minute accommodations. I had to spend over $120 extra to book a room last minute at a different hotel (not even a comparable hotel - no breakfast, not close to the beach, less space). The next day a completely different employee called me telling me they were overbooked - clearly there is a lack of organization and commutation between employees. I sent them a follow up email with a question, no response. I ended up emailing them three times over three days and still have not received any further communications from them.
- Claes (10/5): Exceptional -
- Margaret (10/5): Excellent location and great for a stay in Boston. - The location was excellent and Joan and Sarah made us feel very welcome. The property is beautiful and in a very desirable area of Boston. The public transport (bus) to and from the city centre was great. I used City Mapper and buses were always on time. The blue line into the city from Orient Heights was great for getting around the city. Highly recommended. Thanks to Joan and Sarah for sharing your lovely home with us. Kindest regards, Margaret & John. Nothing comes to mind.
- Paul (10/5): Clean, comfortable and welcoming. - The host was so nice and friendly. She made our stay feel like we were staying with family! Parking was fabulous.
- J123789able (8/5): Thank you! - The property is super convenient to the airport. It’s a quaint neighborhood. Some parts of the house are a bit dated and there is a continental breakfast. It is as described in the listing.
- Dominic (10/5): Thoroughly enjoyed. - The people we met (other guests and proprietors) were lovely people. The location wonderful. The breakfast excellent! Bed great!!!
- Natalie (7/5): Comfortable 1 night stay before an early flight - Good spot to stay at if you have an early flight. Off street parking was great, clean and tidy room. Only 10mins from the airport. Planes do fly over the property, something to be mindful of if you are a light sleeper
- Patricia (4/5): Disappointed - constant jet traffic overhead - very noisy - Rooms were clean Ceiling fans had pull chains that you’d need a ladder to reach - I was never offered any food because I was leaving for work before they served breakfast 8:30 -10:00 - nothing - not fruit - nothing at all
- Martyn (9/5): Great host, building and location -100% recommend! - Joan the host is super friendly and helpful, the building and room was clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated, and just as described, and the Winthrop area is a lovely picturesque neighbourhood with plenty of places nearby to eat, drink and explore but still a short and quick distance to the airport and Boston. Being near the beach and plenty of walks is lovely! Near perfect spot really :) Do NOT let this put you off, as we will 100% stay here again when we visit Boston... but there was a bit of noise from the nearby airport, so would recommend earplugs if you're used to silence when sleeping, and a cooked breakfast option would have been great, but not essential - but again earplugs for us sorted noise and the continual breakfast we were provided was still lovely!
- Sarah (8/5): Very good - Lovely house with comfortable bedroom
- Martin (6/5): Take ear plugs! - The host was pleasant and helpful. The room was nice but dated. We enjoyed the breakfast. It is convenient for the airport, but it isn't sound proofed so we found it difficult to sleep with near constant plane take off and landings
- Douglas (10/5): - It was a beautiful area, especially this time of year. Joan, our hostess, was very friendly and helpful. Her breakfast was wonderful, and there was plenty of everything. If you left there hungry, it would your own fault. The time I was there I felt at home. Joan was fantastic.
- John (9/5): An unusual guest house of timber-slatted New England architecture but still delightful! - The host made us feeling so welcomed all throughout our stay. As a former architectural technician, I was so interested in New England domestic architecture evident around this b & b guest house which is itself a place of architectural heritage. There is a Winthorp town centre with few restaurants (the Mexican is a WOW!) you can walk to about 15 mins.
There are bus services to and from to the nearest rail station for Boston. A nice place to relax after a busy day exploring historic Boston.
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Martha (5/5): Kind of yes, kind of no - Location, lovely neighborhood, close to airport. Hostess, when we met her was very nice. Gave good restaurant recommendation You let yourself in and find your room. No one to welcome you when you arrive. Room was tiny and with Ltd mobility, hard to navigate. Breakfast was cold, including meat offerings
- Anthony (9/5): Nice place, gracious hostess - Hostess was most gracious. Pillows were a little too flat. Glad we each had two to plump it up.
- Shiveler (9/5): Superb -
- Beverly (10/5): A great place to stay when visiting Boston if you don’t want to be in the middle of downtown. - This property was perfect for getting into downtown Boston via subway. We drove our rental car to park at Orient Heights station and rode the subway to all the places we wanted to see downtown. The charm of this home and the neighborhood added to the New England experience for us. Joan was very kind and helpful.
- Jean (8/5): Charming, homey, very comfortable, super-convenient to Logan - Breakfast was simple but lots of choices, and ample (yogurt, toast, jams, cheese, boiled eggs, cereal, fresh fruit, juice...) - and all prepared by the host herself!
Very homey, comfy bed, very welcoming, friendly feeling place - a real, old-school B&B.
Also, Booking.com is giving out the wrong info about cab fare from Boston-Logan Airport: it's only $25 (*not* $60!) Super-easy, fast and reasonable. You can take Winthrop Taxi back, same price, scheduled pickup. Only a couple of very minor things - the windows don't open (it was only early fall but the storm windows were up already). Also, just be aware that since it is an old wood-frame family house, whenever a door closes or anyone's on the stairs you will hear them clearly.
- Lisa (8/5): - Was near the water, and relatively close to Boston. Clean room.
- Yvonne (8/5): lovely b&b in winthrope. - the location is great, big spacious room, we loved sitting in the porch at night. beach just a few minutes from the property. no tea/coffee facilities in the room. breakfast wasn't to our taste.
- Kim (6/5): - Very hard bed. It was self serve It said a bathroom was attached to bedroom and it was down the hall. It was in need of repair.
- Karen (4/5): Adequate for the short time I was there. A bit pricy - Clean
Comfortable
Convenient Room was very small so my friend stayed with another friend
- Hiroaki (8/5): Very good -
- Wendy (8/5): Quaint - Lovely neighbourhood easily accessible by train and bus from airport or downtown Quirkiness
- Susanne (8/5): Very good -
- Paul (10/5): Would definitely return again!! Loved the area as well!! - Everything!
- Susanne (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susan (4/5): Disappointing -
- Alison (9/5): Excellent base, very comfortable for a short stay in Boston - Excellent location. Good communication with the host for check-in and the beds were very comfortable. It would have been nice to have tea and coffee in the rooms or have access to tea and coffee on a self services basis.
- John (10/5): GR8 Boston B&B - Excellent location costing $30 for cab ride from downtown Intercontinental hotel to B&B. Public transit near by to their subway system.
King Bed was comfortable with lots of blankets in a very clean house. They have 4 rooms. Breakfast included yogurt, juices, cereal, fresh fruit, boiled eggs, cheese, ham, sausage, toast and coffee. Joan was very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
- TROY (10/5): - The stay was great!
- Joshua (10/5): - Nice place to stay for a night before going to the airport - check in was easy and hosts were very hospitable
- David (10/5): - Host was very hospitable. Great location
- Ludmila (10/5): - My room in general was basic but reasonably clean, not bad. One thing, when I opened one cabinet there was a fridge that was not functional and completely fallen apart. Why was it there and not in a damp? While the cabinet was closed I still knew the horrible remnant of the fridge was there and this knowledge freaked me out. I spent most of the day away from the hotel and I just crushed for a few hours before going to the airport, feeling relieved. The shower was fine thanks god. The shuttle was on time and nice driver thanks god. The lobby smelled of marijuana. I do not really mind but other people might. As there are no dining options at the hotel, the hallways tend to be littered by used bags with remnants of take away food, not pretty. My short stay costed me $202.
- Kay (8/5): Very good -
- Anne (10/5): Exceptional - Joan was a wonderful host who offered a clean and inviting and private place to rest my head after a long day in Boston traffic. There was more than enough offered for breakfast, and my room on the 2nd floor was quiet and private (the planes at Logan didn't bother me). Winthrop is delightful and very walkable. Nothing to report.
- Sapphira (10/5): Exceptional -
- George (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hannah (10/5): - The reservation didn't go through on expedias end. We showed up at 11 pm at night without any way to get in. We called a few times before the owner picked up. They never got our reservation but they still accommodated us. Very polite and kind. Really appreciated everthing. Room was perfect! Cozy, clean and had a nice little ac. We really enjoyed our stay and wished we could've stayed for longer. Thank you for everything!
- Thomas (8/5): I would use it again as a good way to adapt to US time before travelling to your destination. - Its location adjacent to the airport but no noise. Winthrop is nice being so close to Boston. Very convenient to get to the airport or downtown. The B&B is a nice house and ghetto flat was large and bright. Breakfast was good. Overall value for money. The access to the house was strictly regulated and do not expect to gain access before 4 pm. For an early arrival from Europe that is a bit inconvenient.
- Sam (10/5): - Nice place to stay
- Sandra (8/5): We stayed there because it was a bed and breakfast close to the airport. Very noisy and no breakfast - The room was really nice with a private bathroom. The airport was close to get to in the morning. The noice from the airplanes was constant. We could not have breakfast because they don't serve until 8:00 am. We had to be at the airport at 8. They didn't offer anything else not even drinks.
- Krista (10/5): Comfy and close to airport - A very short stay to end a business trip near the airport. So conveniently located. The property is adorable. I love that they had water waiting for me in the room. Everything was clean. Everything was organized and no detail was left off. Wish I could Have stayed longer
- Guyo (4/5): Thank goodness we only stayed 36 hours. - Hot water and good pressure in the shower. Bed was good. The musty smell in our 2nd floor room was so strong I felt my lungs seize when I entered—musty throughout the house. Dog pee smell in the room size shag rug. The breakfast in this BnB was cold and boring. Kellog's dry cereal, Yoplait yogurt, white bread and cold boiled eggs.
- Nicole (10/5): Exceptional -
- Christy (10/5): - Amazing host my daughter had fun playing with her granddaughter- what great fun to learn the history of the bed and breakfast!
- Thomas (7/5): Good - Everything, except the available amount of foods to eat for breakfast was way too limited Breakfast
- James (10/5): - We had a very pleasant stay without any issues. Thank you for the great experience!
- Donatella (1/5): I don’t think they should fry food if they are waiting for guests who will stay in the room next to the kitchen - Good location if you have to stay close to the hotel. The owner was very nice. We could smell fried food from outside. Then, we found out that someone was frying something in the kitchen next to our room. The smell was horrible, we had to leave and book another hotel. We could not spend the night.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional - Great breakfast, very clean property nothing
- Maria (9/5): Convenient for an overnight stay not far from the airport. - Host was very friendly, had thought of everything we would need. Made us ver6 welcome. Difficult to see the property on a dark wet night. It was one a one way street and we didn’t have details for parking until after we’d got out of the car on the sidewalk. Where to park was specific spot on the driveway to the rear but we had already parked near to the front. Either drive around the block again or make a reverse up the street. Dark, wet and no rear wiper. Other than that everything was great.
- Anne (4/5): Disappointing -
- stephen (8/5): - Somewhat old fashioned but great location for an over night when flying into or out from Logan. About a $30 Uber ride.
- James (9/5): Superb - we were visiting family in the area so beside being airport close, it was also only a mile to our family's residence. even if we didn't have family to visit we would recommend this beautiful BnB as a nice change from run of the mill airport hotels. the hostess was warm and engaging, she even had coffee ready for our 4:00 AM departure. we would be happy to stay here again. a minor issue for us - being near the water there were nice breezes so the first night we left a window open to enjoy the air, but then nearby airport flights were much more noticeable. we took care afterward to close the window and all was well.
