Use of pool could have been fun if other guess didn’t smoke substances there Used the main house fridge and some of our stuff was used and taken. Needed aircon, especially this time of the year. • Nicole (1/5): - The garden and view. We were initially hopeful upon arrival at Karoo Soul in Oudtshoorn. The property has a rustic charm with a nice garden setting, and it looked promising from the outside. However, our experience in the ground floor flat was far from pleasant. First off, the path to the flat is very dark at night, which made walking with a toddler quite unsettling. Once inside, the flat was extremely cold and cramped. While the bed was neatly made with towels on top, the space felt cluttered with unnecessary furniture and had a musty, unclean smell. The bathroom was especially problematic. It’s extremely narrow — anyone overweight might genuinely struggle to fit through the door. There’s no window, just a wooden shutter that lets in a cold draft. The shower was dirty, with black grime on the tiles, which made it feel unhygienic and uncomfortable to use. The kitchenette was unusable. We discovered small cockroaches under the counter, around the kettle, and near the dishes. It was extremely off-putting and left us with no option but to avoid preparing any food there. The bed was neatly presented, but once we opened the sheets, we found dirty marks suggesting the linen had not been properly changed. Worse, I woke up the next morning with bites on my legs and back, possibly from fleas or bed bugs. There were also cockroaches and spiders in the room. This was especially concerning for us as we were traveling with our 1-year-old, and we were afraid he might be bitten too. Overall, the flat was not clean or comfortable. The curtains and carpets looked untidy, and there was hardly any space for our toddler to move around safely. While the setting of Karoo Soul has potential, the accommodation standards in the flat were far below acceptable, particularly for families with young children. We wouldn’t recommend staying here until serious improvements are made in cleanliness and upkeep.

• Martina (5/5): ok - die ou huis is pragtig maar tuine so verwaarloos dat mens nie die mooi raak sien. ons kamer baie premitief gemeubileer teenoor die buite kamer. geen aircons waaiertjies help nie veel tv in buitekamer niks in huis. jy kan nie stort en nagklere aan trek want daar baie ander mense nie badkamer by kamer. buitekamers kokend warm jy kan nie slaap. bed was egter baie gemaklik. ontvangs vriendelik. shame die arme vrou het haar doodgehardloop moet alles doen maak kamer skoon vat kliente deur dan moet volgendes wag dat sy gou hul kamer skoon maak en so gaan dit aan, maak gaste ongemaklik. kan sien dit was eens op n tyd n mooi plek. is daar nie water in oudtshoorn dat tuin so dood is. hartseer. tuin en om geboue skoon maak en by swembad, sorg dat daar n voltydse skoonmaker is toe ons in stap by agterdeur by kombuis was die wasbakke nog vuil want die arme vrou kom nie dadelik by alles uit maar dit is ongelukkig eerste indrukke wat blywend is. daar glad nie vir my gese toe ons bespreek dat 2 in huis slaap en 2 in buite kamer soos vrou dit noem

• Cecilea (1/5): If you do not want a backpacker's vibe, stay away. - Nothing. Nowhere did it indicate that it was a backpacker's. The rooms were dirty. We opted to pay more to have a private apartment instead because the main house just felt dirty and unsafe. Everything. It was noisy, dirty and felt unsafe. They drove into the entrance gate late at night and it missed my car by a few centimetres. The staff was not friendly. I am so glad I had my dad with me otherwise I would have not stayed there.

The shower was rusty and the stove was not working. No shower gel in the bathroom. The pool was dirty and the area pool was dusty!!

The room was beautiful and clean, the pool clean and refreshing, the shower warm, the garden green and beautiful. It was a wonderful stay.

We were a bit surprised by the shared bathrooms, however, it had no negative impact on our stay.

Easy to access and close to the athletics track and swimming pool where we had to compete for Western Province in the Highgate interprovincial meeting. Also close to the city centre as we wanted. No complaints. Maybe a tv in the room, but wasn't really needed?

• Grant (8/5): The family unit was comfortable for our family of four, we loved the garden and sunset view. - The garden was beautiful and perfect for young children. The pool was a highlight too. We had to unscrew the lightbulb in the lounge as it wouldn't switch off (one of these loadshedding bulbs). The toilet to the bathroom is awkward as it opens right into the kitchen, and you have to latch it to close it.

• Didi (7/5): Last minute - Ilze is amazing. She went out of her way to accommodate us. We asked for an extra bed for the little one, and she made a plan. Beautiful old house. Safe electric fenced stay with cameras and security in place. Affordable stay with good quality service! The main road close to the guesthouse was noisy during the nights. The parking area is small and tricky if you have a bakkie. But even here, Ilze helped us to park without bumping into something. (You have to use rear maneuvering a lot, but if I could do it, anyone would be able to.) The double bed can do with a softer mattress.. You have to share bathrooms with other guests in the main house. With a small child, you have to plan your timing wisely.
