Guest Reviews
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Ottima struttura situata in centro, facilmente raggiungibili tutte le attrazione da visitare della citta
- Anna (8/5): - The apartment was perfect for our needs. My only problem was with the gentleman that met us there to give keys and go over the apartment. He said there were no instructions for the washing machine and he didn't know how to use it. He made it sound like the furnace was the water heater and that could have been a miscommunication but he did call it the water heater and there were written instructions so he said he was sure we would figure it out. After a day of realizing the water was hot always we figured it out that was for the furnace. He could have been a lot clearer and we spoke the same language. Not sure how it would have worked out for someone not speaking English. Oh, and we did find the washing machine manual in a cupboard. Other than unclear instructions the place was perfect for our needs.
- Annamaria (10/5): - Casa bellissima, pulita e confortevole. Proprietaria gentilissima e simpatica. Mi sono sentita come a casa.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - You are very central but in the night it is very quiet and it is very cosey. The appartment is very small, but you have everything you need for a city trip. You also have a kitchen with an electric cooker (induction) with 2 hot plates, an oven and a fridge. So you can make your breakfast with coffee (manual percolator).
You can reach the mainattracion on foot in 15-20 Minutes, there are also bus stops near to the appartment.
It is a nice appartment when you stay there for Sightseeing and you don‘t stay anytime in the room (because it is small)
- LeoM (8/5): - Apt 14 - Extraordinary highs and a few lows
On the positive side the apartment was extraordinary. Spacious with high ceilings, filled with grand yet comfortable furnishings, and equipped with a full modern kitchen with a full range of appliances including a clothes washer and (sort of) dryer, it was almost the perfect apartment for us. Plus the location can't be beat as the building sits on the corner of the Royal Mile and the North Bridge (a short walk from the train station and midway between Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood).
There were however a few downsides. The first was the aforementioned ventless dryer. We've dealt with them before so we knew the limitations - basically you need to 'half bake' the clothes then leave them out overnight to dry. The second was that we could only get one window to open - in the worst heatwave ever to hit Scotland. Third were the beds which were by far the softest ones we've ever encountered - you sleep with head and feet far above your middle. Lastly, the check-in process is rather bizarre as someone you've never met nor communicated with leads you to and around your apartment.
All that said, I would definitely stay here again for a shorter 1-3 night visit to Edinburgh. The apartment is just so beautiful and convenient that the shortcomings can be overlooked.
- Verified traveler (4/5): - Windows with dirt fongus on windows.
Windows do not open in bedroom and kitchen. Windows screwed in lock position.
Bad moist smell in the appartment
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The only negative was the long walk up the stairs while carrying all the luggage, groceries, etc. Excellent location, bright and airy, well equipped. It was everything that we had hoped for.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - This place is so nice and well located. I could live here.
- Brandon (10/5): Would stay every time I go to Edinburgh - Great, charming, lovely place in an amazing location. Could not have been happier to find it.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Apartment on The Royal Mile - On the Royal Mile. Nice apartment. Friendly owner. Wifi only worked in room with router.
- maria cristina (8/5): - Muy bueno el departamento muy cómodo y prolijo el único inconveniente era que había que subir escaleras y teníamos un bebe y cochecito
El departamento súper bien ubicado cerca de todos lados
- MPessoa (8/5): - Beautiful, bright, modern and comfortable apartment. We got quite a bit of noise from the street (ambulances) and pubs on Thursday and Friday night in particular. However, we really liked the location close to the park and the castle! Great drinks, food and service at Innis+Gunn too!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great for a family! plenty of space and great location. Could use new mattresses. Overall would recommend and stay again!
- joung suk (10/5): 안락하고 우아한 숙소.교통이 편한 관광명소옆 아파트 60평형대규모 - 넓직한 아파트,거실 방두개,욕실 주방 모두 넖고 편안했다.

- Lisa (10/5): - Flott beliggenhet, fin leilighet og godt utstyrt. Den ene sengen og sofa var slitt. Kort vei til butikker og restauranter.
- Kayee (2/5): - I am looking for an apartment, which must having 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, because we are group in 4ppls (2 family). The description in Expedia is showing (2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms). However, the fact is only (2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, 1 toilet). It is totally a trick.
The pictures on Expedia shows the apartment is quite new and in good condition. But the fact is the amenities are very old. Nearly all the door knobs are damaged. The apartment do not have microwave oven. The radiators are uncontrollable. The light bulb over the dining table is burnt out. You will have your meal in dim. No kitchen towel provided. The only one bathroom is big but the radiator cannot work, we freeze when showering, and the water pressure is low, you don’t feel you have clean your body.
- Sally (10/5): Edinburgh short break! - Perfect location and a beautiful apartment, very helpful lady who met us and gave us recommendations for our stay which was fab
- steven (10/5): Really good apartment in great location - Delighted with my stay with three friends at this apartment. Everything went smoothly from booking to key collection, stay and checkout. Would definitely return on next visit to Edinburgh
- Verified traveler (4/5): - The bed is like a rock and after 3 days, I left in intense pain and I enjoy camping! Barely slept between the noise of buses/trucks on the road outside on the cobblestone streets and people buzzing the room every night at 2 am to get in to a different room. The location is great but that is the only advantage of this place but saying that, the amount of drunk people on the street coming out of the pub next door negates that. Everything is small and cramped but clean. Won’t stay again, especially at that price. Hostel would have been quieter and cheaper!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - tutto come da descrizione, ben arredato e dotato di tutti i comfort; spazioso e in ottima posizione
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We were very happy with the property management and their personal approach. The property was in a great location. The welcoming was as good as anywhere.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, we arrived at the flat at 9pm when checking in after a delay to our flight. Katie went out of her way in the freezing cold and stood and waited for us. She then explained everything all to us and made us feel very welcome. The apartment itself was extremely comfortable and had all we needed including a washing machine, airer, fridge etc...
- John (10/5): Four go Christmas shopping and socialising. - We had a very enjoyable 2-night stay at 5 Chessell Court over 14th-16th December. The apartment is in an ideal location just off the Royal Mile and a five minute walk from Waverley Station.
We all found the apartment very spacious, very clean and comfortable. Being in a courtyard it is very quiet and it really is location, location, location. There are numerous excellent amenities in the direct local area without having to go the other side of Waverley and Princes Street.
The apartment is a lovely place to while away an evening after the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping and following a meal in one of the many handily-located eateries. We cooked breakfast in the excellently equipped kitchen.
Communication prior to and greeting on arrival were very good - overall a fabulous stay and we will be back!
A hidden gem.
- Anne (10/5): Supergod oplevelse - God service, mange informationer, lejligheden indeholdt alt hvad der var brug for, var ren og pæn med skøn udsigt og god beliggenhed. Vil gerne komme igen.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Generally great. Walkable to every main attractions. Lots of restaurants surrounded. However, the towel dryer didn’t work, asked for help but just tell us the switch is in the living room where we couldn’t find it anywhere. We stayed for three nights and it was hard to dry the towels without the towel dryer in the limited space.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location on the Royal Mile. Comfortable flat for 5 people. Very considerate property manager, willing to help with logistics of getting to and from public transportation when needed.
- Ana (10/5): Positive experience - Great stay. Great location
- Kaitlin (10/5): Amazing view! - Amazing location and a beautifully made up room. We had an amazing stay! The room we stayed in overlooked the castle. It was clean and comfortable. Felt like a home away from home.
- Shamama (10/5): - Terrific location close to transit and lots of earteries. Great kitchen facilities with in suite laundry. Very comfy place with a view of the castle.
- Justin (10/5): - The apartment is gorgeous and well-equipped. Its location is perfect. We were close to everything – national galleries, the Royal Mile, Prince's Street, excellent dining and more. A big thank-you to Katie at Greatbase Apartments, who was very gracious, meeting us at the property even after our flights were delayed. The suite was a perfect home base and we'd happily stay there again.
- June (10/5): - I felt like I was renting and living in Edinburgh, love that feeling of not just being a tourist.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Great location in the Old Town 10 min from Edinburg Castle.
Walked everywhere. Spacious.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Convenient and quiet location, very spacious - We booked a unit on Cambridge Street that turned out to be a hidden gem right in the heart of the main attractions. This massive flat was tucked away on a quiet little street just short walk from the hustle and bustle of Lothian Rd and Princes St. The unit was fairly expensive, but it could accommodate a much larger group. I would definitely consider staying here again.
- Paul (10/5): Ideally situated close to grasssmarket - I had a fantastic week at his apartment. I was there on business working for a client in Edinburgh. The apartment had everything i needed for the weeks stay which included a washing machine, cooker, tv , there were towels provided and the bed was really comfortable. Its location was fantastic, with pubs and eating establishments close by. The host recommended the Mussel and Steak restaurant and I can endorse that recommendation it was gorgeous, there was nothing i did not like about the flat, it has views of the castle it is bright and airy , it was fabulous and I wouldn't hesitate to stay there again
- Barbara (8/5): Great property - A very comfortable, neat and clean apartment. It is right on the Royal Mile, which was great, although there was some street noise at night. The staff was helpful and available throughout.
- Sue (8/5): - Budget type apartment with convenient Old Town location. Within short walk to local grocery store as well as numerous restaurants, pubs and sites of interest. Management staff was helpful and responded to emails promptly. Apartment itself was clean enough to be comfortable but would benefit from deep cleaning. Some of the furnishings were excessively worn.
- Anthony (10/5): - Excellent spacious location
Perfect for a family with older kids
Lots of stairs- no lift but views make up for it
I would highly recommend this apartment
- Susan (10/5): - Katie was great with communication before arrival. Our train was delayed and she adjusted her schedule to meet us later than originally planned. The apartment (3 Parkgate, Gentle’s Entry) is modern, nice and clean, It’s located just off The Royal Mile near the Palace. The mountain outside the living room window is a great hiking adventure. The fresh flowers, the milk in the frig, the apples and cookies, all for us to enjoy during our stay, were a surprise and much appreciated. STAY HERE...you will be delighted!
- Marc (10/5): Excellent - Loved our stay in Edinburgh, beautiful apartment with all amenities for a very comfortable stay close to many points of interest.
Would go back and recommend
- Ashley (10/5): Excellent - Wonderful place to stay and close to the museums, castle, restaurants and bars. There was even a view of the castle from the loving room. Excellent greeting from Katie. Everything we could need was provided. I would recommend a fan while there's works going on as it can be a bit warm without the window open and loud from about 7am with the works outside starting. Would stay again.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Location is excellent - The managers were great. We were allowed to arrive early and leave after normal checkout time. The location was right on the Royal mile.
- Rick (10/5): - On Royal mile and convient to all attractions
Appartment was spacious and comfortable
- michael (6/5): Excellent position, but... - This is an old property right on the Royal Mile, and thus superbly placed. I experienced noise issues, but in fairness they had been pointed out to me by the letting agent. I relied upon what proved to be ineffective double glazing. Against the usual tests, this is just OK, nothing more.
- Caroline (10/5): Location, location, location ! - Wonderful location off the Royal Mile, could not have been better.
Katie was a great host, very communicative and the apartment was very well stocked with toiletries and kitchen essentials etc.
Very comfortable flat, big wardrobes and great views.
- Mauricio (10/5): - Greatest location for someone new to Edinburgh. Walking distance to most city attractions and transportation (train and buses). If I ever go back to Edinburgh, I would stay in this apartment again.
- RHONDA (10/5): Scotland on the Royal Mile - amazing location, the apt was fantastic, huge bedrooms and very large family room with a beautiful view from every room, 2 full bathrooms which was greatly needed with 3 women in the unit
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Katie is a gem as manager. Property could not be better .
- Kent (2/5): Not what I expected - I book through Hotels.com and then I expect a good standard of what I order. Here I do not get a hotel, but an apartment of a standard I did not imagine. These apartments were under the catogory a Hostel or Airbnb and this did not appear in the advertisement when I ordered. Had this been described in the ad, then of course I had the booket somewhere else. I do not like to be fooled and now I feel cheated. I Have been fooled to buy a product that costs more than it is worth.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Webster's Land, 7 day getaway to Edinburgh. - Took my 18 yr old son for his first trip abroad from the states. We had a smooth check-in and explanation of the facilities. There was a welcome of fruit, milk , tea, shortbread and fresh flowers. The kitchen had everything we would need and the store was half a block away. This location was a great base camp to go explore Edinburgh, bus stop on West Port just out the door if you need it. We ended up walking everywhere except the tram ride to and from airport. We also took advantage of the 10% off bookings for two day trips with Rabbie's tours and would highly recommend them if you have the time. Did I mention we had a view of the castle from the bedroom window and every time we left the flat!!
- BSH (10/5): - Katie was excellent in meeting us late (10pm) and getting us settled. Perfect location and very cozy, comfortable apartment!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Tiny house style apartment - Design over Practical - Though the apartment was in a great location, and was in immaculate condition, it was very impractical. The designer definitely hit the nail on the head and made the place look as though it was out of a magazine, but the amenities were difficulty to use or poorly executed. I was barely able to fit in the opening to the shower and I am a fit 5'8'' runner. The kitchen sink could not fit a pot or bowl in it to clean. We were very frustrated on the first day just trying to cook ourselves breakfast as everything needed to be read in an instruction manual first to know how to use the oven or stove top.
- Debra (8/5): A hidden gem. - I travel to Edinburgh frequently since my son lives here. I have tried many hotels on or near the royal mile, and done an AIRBnB where the rooms were strangely arranged and we had to share a bathroom. Usually I travel alone but this trip I had my daughter and niece with me. It was very difficult to find a room for three people, and we definitely wanted more room and a kitchen . This place met our needs very nicely. The apartment was bright and cozy and had a fabulous view of Edinburgh Castle. It was well-appointed and we were not crowded at all. My only complaint is that the entrance is rather shabby-looking. When I saw the entrance, I almost changed my reservation. Luckily it is very nice and clean inside, and very relaxing after a long day sight-seeing and visiting. Would definitely stay here again.
- Marc (10/5): Lovely apartment in the Royal Mile - This is a beautiful apartment very conveniently located on the Royal Mile very close to Princes Street. Rooms are very generously sized and the kitchen is wekk equipped. A great pkace ti stay with a family.
- Anthony (8/5): Comfy and good views - Great location; walking distance to the best sites and a view of the castle. For 3 or more it’s roomier and more cost effective than multiple hotel rooms. It’s a walk up like most Old Town buildings.
- Irene (10/5): The best!!! - Great apartment and great location. There was milk in the fridge fir a cup of tea and there were tears and coffee etc so no need to buy. There was even some fairy liquid to do the dishes.
There were toilet rolls and shower gels etc, albeit the shower gels were probably left by someone else. It’s so much better than any others self catering apartments.
Fresh flowers were left to add that final little touch.
- Maggie (10/5): Amazing Hogmany Holiday - This was the first time out of the country for our sons (8,10,12) and a memory I know they'll treasure. The apartment was absolutely perfect! The location couldn't be better - everything is an easy walk and torchlight parade passed by steps away. The amenities were excellent: everything we needed was right there and we were able to do laundry and fix meals with ease. The beds were super comfortable and everyone was grateful to have their own space. The service was excellent as well - Katie helped us set up our transfers to and from the airport and greeted us warmly upon our arrival and responded to our questions quickly (even on New Years Eve!). What a wonderful experience!
- Hulda (10/5): Lovely Ecdinburgh - Edinburgh is a lovely city every thing is with in a walking distance
- Bali (8/5): Great location - The apartment was in a great location right in the heart of city overlooking the castle. It was very modern, clean and warm.
The host had provided everything we would need for a comfortable stay including toiletries and provisions eg milk, fruit, tea, coffee etc. There were even fresh flowers on the dining table.
- Christina (4/5): - The shower was not explained so no one could use it as we did not know to pull the string to make it operate. There were homeless people also living in the walkway.
- Siobhan (10/5): Great location and comfortable - Excellent location to stay with children as airport bus drop off within a 10 minute walk, handy to castle, dungeons and shopping. Very comfortable appartment and had everything you need from hairdryer to Wi-fi.
- S (8/5): Great apartment close to everything - We enjoyed our stay here. The location is amazing. Right on Grassmarket, a lively street right next to Edinburgh Castle. Close enough to walk to everything within minutes (and it's a really nice walk) but not so close as to be noisy.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Roomy and Elegant Executive Flat - Fantastic option to local hotels. Elegant and spacious is the North Bridge flat.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Pleasant stay in a good location. On the small side but adequate for 2 people
- Brent (10/5): Great alternative for group travel - Place was great! Well furnished, nice and clean, great location (very central) nice to have extra amenities (kitchen and laundry) and own private flat. Great alternative to traditional hotel. Works well for groups.
- Natalia (10/5): Very classy, in the heart of Edinburgh - This place is just spectacular. Pictures do not do it a justice. It has old world charm and character, but is upgraded to the modern standard. The apartment is well-equipped and very spacious. Bedding is of a good quality and all beds are very comfy.
- Holli (10/5): Great location and spacious - It was spacious with a great location. Warning - no elevator and must climb 3 flights of stairs.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Only feet from the Mile - The location was perfect. The apartment was very nice. It was exceptionally well appointed and was clean. It was better than expected. We would stay here again.
- Jung k (6/5): - Water heater had problem, extreme hot or cold, we couldn't take a shower!!
It is very expensive for the place with this problem.
Only book this flat if you don't mind cold shower lol
- KG (8/5): Location, location, location! - If you're wanting to explore Edinburgh then this is a great location for a base - right in the thick of things so you can walk to many attractions and amenities; no parking with apartment but reasonably priced long term secure parking nearby; apartment is quiet, spacious and well equipped.
- Mindy (10/5): Perfect location - Just off the Royal Mile, yet quiet and cozy. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Apartment was clean, spacious, and well--appointed. It was everything we needed. Will stay here again!
- Marzia (10/5): amazing stay - Excellent location to visit the city.
The flat is very clean, cosy and well equipped with everything you need for you stay.
Katie and Jack (who gave us the keys) are very helpful and kind.
- Amy (6/5): Lots of stairs to carry luggage. - Mostly I should have done my homework a little better. The apartment was fine a little on the small size but really great wifi. Great location. Now for the down side and as I said mostly my fault for not doing my homework. First of all we didn't realize the hotel was literally a block from waverley station. That would have been nice to know. We got lost and missed out check in time. Because of that we had to wait for 3 hours to have someone available for us to check in . The apartment is not marked very well at all we were really not sure if we were even in the right place Also no elevator so we had to carry our luggage up 4 flights of stairs. I didn't feel like the staff was really available for questions or help. Like I said mostly because I didn't do my homework but this apartment is not what we needed.
- paul (8/5): Apartment for an Edinburgh break ?
Look no further - From your living room window you can see the castle. Perfectly placed for sightseeing and restaurants and bars. Well equipped flat with all mod cons. Set in a strange grotty looking complex if I'm honest, but the flat itself was spotless.
- Bonnie (10/5): Lovely apartment in a great location - We had a great stay. Lovely apartment and a great location.
