Guest Reviews
- Jane (10/5): A little gem - This is a fantastic little hotel and pub. Rooms are spacious and comfortable with great in room facilities for humans and dogs. Staff are warm, welcoming and very helpful. Menu was nicely varied Nothing
- Conn (9/5): -
- Emma (10/5): - The room was amazing and the bed was so comfortable. Breakfast was great and staff were all very helpful Nothing!
- Bryony (6/5): Lovely rooms, staff, pub and hotel, but way too hot to sleep - The staff are lovely, the room we stayed in was great - it was clean and there was lovely attention to detail. I have stayed here once before last year around the same time - the weather then was really warm, so I put the temperature of the room down to the weather outside. This year, it was a lot cooler (15 degrees be 25 degrees), but the room was still boiling. If the rooms had AC, then I would continue to return happily, but two years in a row I have slept really badly, so I don’t think I can return again. My partner also found it way too hot to sleep unfortunately.
- helen (8/5): A decent place to spend a night, good quality rooms and a nice lively bar. - Pleasant rooms, decent bar, nice staff, a good pub with rooms. I didn't eat so can't comment, but I had a beer in the bar and it was busy and lively. Nothing
- Pav-lina (10/5): -
- Jonathan (8/5): Would stay there again. - Dinner was excellent. Breakfast - the tomatoes were the tastiest.
- Maria Isabel (8/5): - The staff was really friendly and helpful. Our room was not clean properly the days we were there
- Mike (8/5): Great place would come back - Great staff and service we really enjoyed our stay The only thing was they got our room beds wrong we asked for a double and were given two singles.
- Adekunle (8/5): -
- Ledy (8/5): -
- Suzanne (10/5): Wonderful stay - Superb, cosy room design, spotlessly clean and very comfortable bed - loved it. Very helpful and welcoming staff. N/a
- Nik (6/5): -
- Andre (8/5): Comfortable hotel with a great restaurant within walking distance of Emsworth high street - Comfortable room, outstanding restaurant and great location. Housekeeping could be a bit more methodical
- Adrian (10/5): A lovely spontaneous night away! - Really great place to stay
Good food and a great welcome Prices of drinks were very high
- Christopher (9/5): -
- Angela (9/5): Good food and wine, great live music and very comfortable bed staff were fabulous - The staff were fabulous, they couldn’t do enough to help make our stay as comfortable as possible. They had live music which was great. The room was very comfortable snd extremely good value however we were on the first floor which was too warm. We spoke to a member of staff regarding this, he said he was aware and trying to rectify the situation. He very kindly offered a free breakfast. We were not looking for anything free but we did have a lovely breakfast. We would be very happy to stay here again.
- Hannah (9/5): Excellent stay with the advantage of an excellent bar & restaurant - Our room was lovely & cosy & the bar & restaurant were very nice.
- Dominic (10/5): -
- Michelle (10/5): -
- Tina (7/5): Amazing, clean and excellent staff - You are always made to feel welcome and all the staff will do anything for you. The choice of drink and food was amazing. At night it so peaceful, but well located to main link roads and bus routes (just out side). The bath panel in room 8 needs a bit of up grade and the bed was like sleeping on a plank of wood. Would recommend some mattress toppers on request.
- Jamie (9/5): -
- mark (10/5): A genuinely good night with good company - really friendly staff, nothing was to much trouble. A really good menu, with some different items that were simple but well prepared - very enjoyable
- sjp6491 (9/5): Our stay was very good and we would certainly recommend and stay again. - We were pleased at how good the Ropemaker is, everything, room, staff, food was very good. A shaver point in the bathroom and a light over the bathroom mirror.
- Cullen (10/5): - I absolutely loved my dog treats, dog bed and bowls ready for my pooch! I have never travelled with a dog, so seeing these bits made me feel relaxed that if he barked no one would mind! The room decor is beautiful, I was surprised how nice it was for the £85 price tag per night. Bed was super comfy and nice shower. Thank you for my treats, too! I don’t usually write reviews but I genuinely loved my one night solo (ish!) stay!
- Katherine (8/5): Would recommend and return - Friendly and welcoming staff who did their best to accomodate our wishes.
Very comfortable and well appointed room and bathroom, plus nice toiletries! Cooking smells in the bar was the only downside.
- Martin (9/5): -
- donald (8/5): -
- Philip (8/5): Very good - only a couple of minor points - Location and restaurant Bathroom lighting awful - bad design
No light to shave or do makeup
Car parking is not adequate
- Lorna (8/5): Good location and would stay here again - Good location, room clean and comfortable, friendly and helpful staff and a very nice breakfast No late snacks and carpets in general areas could do with good clean
- Norbert (9/5): -
- Sophie (10/5): -
- wilfred (10/5): Prachtig - Geweldig pand en heerlijk eten
- Vicky (10/5): - Fabulous place, staff were lovely and the room was spacious and extremely comfortable We took our dog and whilst there is a garden there are no poo bins. A bin would be very useful and would prevent people from leaving piles of full dog poo bags
- NEAL (8/5): -
- Ian (8/5): -
- Tessa (7/5): -
- Bethany (10/5): Absolutely marvellous! - Clean, tidy, excellent service and the complimentary sweet treats were to die for!
I’ll definitely be coming back in the future!
- Kevin (7/5): Beautiful but disappointed - Love the food the staff and the location. The rooms are amazing perfect for our stay it's our 2nd time as The RopeMaker. We used to come before. We got a garden facing room this Easter weekend and we were very disappointed that from before lunch until almost 10pm at night music from the pub/restaurant could be heard in our room. We went out and come back for the evening to relax and the music was still audible. The website states a relaxing stay which was not the case. We love the place and live music fine as it's advertised but constant background pub music that can be heard even if Windows are closed not acceptable. It was warm so the doors were left open to the garden. I think people should be made aware if this is pub policy to have music playing all day.We will come back but will be requesting quieter room facing the other way.
- HANNAH (10/5): 10/10 would recommend - The staff were incredibly helpful, the rooms were beautifully decorated and spacious and the facilities were 10/10. We travelled with two dogs and everything was completely faultless.
- Guy (9/5): -
- Lorri (10/5): Faultless. A true gem. I will be returning. - Faultless. Incredible stay and went well beyond expectations which is very rare. A true gem. Highly highly recommended. Free upgrade on arrival too, huge thanks for that kindness too. Nothing, it was perfect!
- Tony (10/5): -
- Hales (5/5): - Close to Emsworth harbour It's a very busy pub
- Ryan (10/5): Very happy. Would definitely stay again. - Very clean and tidy. Very cosy room. Staff were brilliant and food was amazing.
- Rebecca (9/5): Great - Room was lovely - although shower water slow to warm up!
Very comfortable bed - v important!
Didn't stop for breakfast but dinner was excellent.
Staff all very welcoming
- Catherine (9/5): -
- Magdalena (8/5): Overall great place to stay , very dog friendly:) thank you - Room nice and comfy. Bed extremely comfortable, wanted to take it home with me😉
Staff very friendly We been given the wrong room but that wasn’t a huge issue . We been offered a little discount instead and we were happy about it .
- Elaine (9/5): 5th visit great service and value - Excellent value and comfortable Nothing
- Lee (9/5): I was very impressed by this Inn. Beautiful design choices and great welcome - bravo. - I really loved the the music playing in the room as you arrive with dimmed lights and hand-written welcome note. That was really lovely and more than you'd get in some excellent hotels. Nothing I'd care to note.
- MJS (7/5): - Breakfast good, dinner good. Room not so good. I didn’t like being given a room designed for a person in a wheelchair/ disabled.
- Sam (10/5): - The bed was really comfy and slept very well and accomodating staff.
- Shirley (10/5): -
- Gadd (9/5): Wish we had booked more than one night. - Breakfast by order!., we had not paid in advance as were aware of this system. The room was superb. Could not be bettered. Also had evening meal. It got quite busy while we were there. The staff were lovely and friendly. We were delighted to be close to bus stops with very regular service to Chichester or Portsmouth. A train station in Emsworth which is a couple or so stops from the Ropemaker. A lovely garden to sit with a pot of tea. Room….no hot water for shower prior to evening meal or early morning hand wash. Very hot later. Mentioned before we left after just one night. Scrambled egg with chopped chives was very nice but just one slice of thin white toast?? Evening meal was amusing to us as we struggled with the menu and French (?) culinary terms. We do not watch foodie programmes.
- Sharon (9/5): Pleasantly Surprised - Room 5 was lovely.
No heating in the room but that was ok.
Room 6 was lovely and very warm with nice patio doors to sit outside.
Breakfast the second day was second to none - absolutely wonderful.
The Roast dinner on the second day was absolutely wonderful too. Room 5 could have done with another chair as the bench a bit uncomfortable to site on.
No heating in the room but that was ok. Could have done with more toilet roll in the room on day two.
Breakfast was not so nice on the first day, the sourdough bread was very hard and could not be eaten.
Dinner on day on was Chateau Brianne - very expensive for two pots of chips, half as tomato each with couple cloves of garlic in one and a pot of sauce which we were supposed to share and was tiny.
- Yelyzaveta (10/5): -
- Saffron (9/5): -
- Furlong (10/5): -
- Keith (10/5): Friendly welcoming staff and atmosphere - Very clean and well looked after Nothing

- andrew (9/5): Lovely hotel and stay. Recommended. - Location, staff, cleanliness and style. My room was really hot overnight even though the radiators were switched off. I think it was above the kitchen? Fan in the room helped.
- Jean (10/5): Short walk to my son’s house, celebrating his 50th birthday. - Breakfast served at the table a pleasant extra. Parking was difficult on Friday. Car park full. Easier on Saturday.
- Ashton🍒 (10/5): -
- Richard (10/5): -
- Sarah (9/5): -
- Susan (10/5): A very comfortable hotel with helpful and professional staff. - The hotel was extremely busy as it was a Saturday night and of course very noisy. However, the soundproofing upstairs was exceptional as I heard no noise once I was in my room on the first floor. It would have been more convenient to have reserved parking spaces for hotel guests.
My room was very warm but floor standing fans were provided.
- Robert (8/5): Enjoyed our meal and 1 night stay - Lovely pub / restaurant, let in dog as well Maybe just a little over priced for the room but also it was good quality
- Katherine (9/5): Lovely location, quality food and rooms. Would stay here again without question. - The welcome to the property was excellent with friendly & helpful staff.
I walked into my room with an amazing set up - a radio was on playing classic fm, lights were dimmed for mood lighting and a hand written welcome note from the staff waited for me with 3 homemade sweet treats which was a gorgeous touch. There wasn’t as much sound proofing as id have liked as I could hear the bathroom fan from the room next door & some louder music played from a near by room. This didn’t affect the quality of the stay but could be looked into as some feedback.
- Christine (9/5): Short stay in high quality rooms. We hope to return. - We booked extra comfy room which was lovely with special treats for us and our dog. Special area to dine and have breakfast with our dog which is good for us and good for those who don't have dogs! Breakfast great with lovely service. Nothing. Would love to return.
- Scarlett (10/5): Relaxing, friendly and a good vibe - The staff were all so amazing friendly and accommodating, the room was beautiful and everything we needed they managed to get for us. The little macarons and cakes in our room when we arrived were such a lovely surprise and delicious! Cocktails were fantastic too. Only positive things to say
- Graham (10/5): Wonderful! - Regular client under previous ownership, first visit since overhaul. Pleased the general homely atmosphere has stayed, while having a completely new style. Room furnishing and colour pallet were very welcoming and cozy, and restaurant and menus were fabulous! Staff were superb, knowledgeable and friendly. I could have had more time and stayed longer!
- Richard (10/5): Will recommend and stay again when next in the area. - The upgrade was most welcome. Beautiful room and ensuite. The whole hotel was beautifully decorated, maintained and very clean. The additional touches of treats and Roberts radio really made for a difference, certainly going the extra mile. Room was very hot, but due to external conditions, the fan was a life saver! An A/C unit may need to be considered.

- Elizabeth (10/5): Perfect in Every Way - The Ropemaker was wonderful! The staff were extremely friendly, professional and helpful. I am a very picky housekeeper and when I say our room was spotless, I mean it was spotless. The room was large, the bathroom was huge, the bed linens were crisp and comfortable, the towels were thick and large. There was excellent closet space and the bed and pillows were lovely and comfortable. We were greeted with a handwritten welcome note along with cookies and candies in our room. On check-in we were upgraded at no additional cost. We ate dinner in the restaurant our first night and it was absolutely delicious! The restaurant servers were efficient and friendly. I can't say enough good things about The Ropemaker. Everything was perfect!
- Diana (3/5): Disappointing - Position. Room 16 was dreadful. So noisy. Unbelievable.
Not sure I would return to the Ropemaker. I spoke to Manager Rita who said she would be getting in touch.
Shower SO slippery and taps right at the end. So you get wet turning them on. Then just a small amount. No power.
- Heather (9/5): - Great place rooms above the bar were a bit noisy
- Susan (8/5): -
- Jmie (9/5): -
- Ed (7/5): Nice hotel lacking expected customer service - Superb breakfast with everything available a la carte. Bar area very nice too Smallest toilet in the room that I have ever seen. Evening bar staff were clueless and too busy talking amongst themselves whilst ignoring customers
- laura (10/5): Great stay - Very good, clean, nice breakfast
- Mary (10/5): -
- Kevin (10/5): A true home from home. - A true home from home. Pleasant and welcoming staff. Wonderful food.Quiet and exceptional facilities. From the rainfall shower room to the perfect pillows. Maybe add herbal teas to the room? A small but sometimes important extra.
- Stephen (8/5): - Well appointed newly renovated hotel, comfortable bedroom and bathroom with good amenities. Nice breakfast options friendly staff and big bar with good cocktails
- Graham (10/5): Everything was excellent! - From parking on arrival to setting off back to home everything was superb. Staff, restaurant, room and facilities couldn't be faulted. A blissful and relaxing Xmas stay! 😁👍

- Jo (9/5): Lovely clean, comfy stay - It was very clean, very nicely decorated and was comfortable. The bed was massive and super comfy, the duvet and pillows were good quality If I am being picky, the only thing I would say is that it is a fair walk into Emsworth - maybe 20 minutes
- sue (10/5): Restful -
- lucy (9/5): -
