Guest Reviews
- Chauhan (10/5): Must visit when in weligama - Exceptional Stay – Highly Recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Our stay at Foozoo Mantra Weligama was absolutely superb and exceeded all expectations. The property itself is beautiful, peaceful, and extremely well-maintained truly a perfect place to relax and unwind.
A special mention to Sandun, who made our experience even more memorable. He is incredibly caring, approachable, and always ready with quick solutions. His hospitality really stood out and made us feel at home throughout our stay.
One of the highlights was enjoying the pool at night such a calm and unique experience that we’ll never forget. The entire property has a quiet, relaxing vibe that makes it feel extra special. They even have the entire kitchen for us that's so so sweet. The main entrance is so beautiful. I would suggest take the entire day when you plan to just relax and keep your day slow.
The location is also very convenient. Weligama Railway Station is just about 1 km away, and Weligama Beach is only around 2 km, making it easy to explore nearby attractions. Whether it’s surfing or whale watching, everything is easily accessible and well-organized.
They also helped us arrange airport transport at a better price compared to others, which was very helpful and hassle-free.
Overall, this stay was absolutely worth the money. We had a wonderful experience and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Weligama!
We will be covering the entire stay on YouTube as well. Pls check out at - Tera Bhai shamx on YouTube.
Love
Anand and Aakansha To be honest. There is nothing you can't like.
- smith (8/5): really enjoyed our stay here in the perfect location for us - The new owner of this property is the loveliest man and is very passionate about his gorgeous heritage property . The location is a bit out of town but didnt bother us at all . We loved getting a tuk tuk . Its only 5-7 mins to get to Wilegama or Midigama .Found some awesome beaches . one walking distance and one a 5 min tuk tuk ride . Great quiet street with the BEST little family restaurant right accross the road . Dileena is a must go to for fabulous cheap food . We went twice. Foozo0 is a peaceful beautiful place to stay . We loved our time there . Sadly the pool was very green with mould on the tiles.. I have a feeling the filter wasnt working . We didnt want to risk swimming in it. Our room was very very dark ( great for sleeping ) but hard to see what you are doing otherwise .
- Svetlana (9/5): Beautiful House - Beautiful old house with lovely grounds and spacious bedroom. Our host Sanduk, was always available, friendly and helpful. We had the Sri Lankan breakfast which was delicious, and abundant and great value. The location is quiet and away from
the main road. I would definitely stay again. N/A
- Dominik (10/5): Dom z duszą . - Bardzo klimatyczny do z pięknym ogrodem i basenem . Taki dom z duszą . Obsługa super miła .
- Yasmina (10/5): Exceptional stay in Weligama – Outstanding service and beautiful villa - We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this beautiful villa in Weligama. The property is stunning — very spacious, stylish, and incredibly comfortable. From the moment we arrived, we felt relaxed and truly at home. The bed was super comfortable, and we slept amazingly well every night.
The attention and care from Sando and the entire team were impeccable and exquisite. They were always kind, attentive, and genuinely focused on making sure we had the best experience possible. Their hospitality made our stay even more special.
We initially experienced a very small issue with some morning noise due to nearby development. However, as soon as we mentioned it to Sando, he immediately offered to move us to another room without any hesitation. The new room was spectacular — even larger and more beautiful than the one we had originally booked. We were absolutely delighted with how quickly and professionally everything was handled.
The breakfast was absolutely delicious — fresh, generous, and beautifully prepared. It was the perfect way to start each day.
We are extremely happy with our stay and wouldn’t hesitate to come back. Thank you so much for everything — you made us feel comfortable, welcomed, and truly at home. Nothing
- Neha (10/5): Good value for money - Really clean rooms, peaceful and serene atmosphere.
Old heritage property which is well taken care of.
Very sweet and cooperative staff.
- Lode (6/5): History is not an excuse. Great potential here that requires more investments and work. - This is a historical building, and it carries that history.
The small lotus pond in the middle of the house is magical. It had FOUR different types/colours of Lotus flowers blooming. The terraces garden has many flowers. Location: next to very busy road and very loud neighbours That, in combination with complete lack of sound insolation (especially in the upper room) really was not nice.
Our top room did not only lack insolation from noise, but also from the heat. Basically, you can see the daylight through the new roof. Hence, the airco needs to run full power (very loud) to keep the room cooled, in a very inefficient and non-ecological way. The huge old fan was very powerful, and also very loud. The passage to the bathroom (very nice bath) was dangerously low and in additional high. While I understand the historical constraints, automated lighting at night could prevent many painful head bumps.
Our bottom room was quite dark, and the outside shower offered no privacy to the neighbours.
The pool is ridiculously small, and actually quite dangerous.

- Michał (10/5): Cudownie, komfortowo i czysto. Polecam - Piękny, klimatyczny i stylowy dom. Przemiła obsługa. Przyjemny basen.
- Rishwanth (6/5): -
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional - Beautifully restored property. Amazing food and Damith was a wonderful host who took good care of us.
- Sazra (7/5): Good -
- Rajitha (9/5): Superb - Loved the ambience and vibe of this place. They have maintained the old Sri Lankan walauwwa aspect and added modern amenities quite intelligently. The place feels like a home.
The garden is beautiful. We loved exploring it and finding little nooks in it.
The pool is small but quite private and hidden away in the garden.
The bed was big and extremely comfy, and the room and bathroom were quite clean.
The breakfast, consisting of local breakfast staples, some western additions, and fruits, was delicious and quite filling. We ended up skipping lunch because we were so full.
Damith and his staff were very attentive, friendly, and helpful but also let us have our own space and privacy.
The place is pet friendly and we could keep our kitten without any issues. The villa also has its own very cute furry friends.
As a queer couple we felt very safe and relaxed and would definitely visit again. We would have loved a cupboard or something in the bedroom to store clothes and things. The rooms are quite minimalistic and there was no cupboard or rack. But there was a decent sized table that we used to keep our clothes and things, so it wasn't a big miss.
- David (9/5): A nice peaceful and happy stay - Great stay. A beautiful house with cool rooms when the weather is hot. The pool is a big bonus. It is slightly outside weligama which we liked but something to be aware of if you’d rather be closer. Lovely staff and pets as well. Coconut beach only 10 mins walk away which was nice and quiet and Delinnas restaurant opposite is a must!
- Samooshi (10/5): A Hidden Gem in Weligama – A Perfect Blend of History, Comfort, and Heart - I recently had the pleasure of staying at a beautifully restored 130-year-old bungalow in Weligama, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The property has been thoughtfully renovated, preserving its rich history while seamlessly integrating modern comforts.
From the moment we arrived, our host Damith made us feel right at home. He was incredibly warm and accommodating, going above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed throughout our stay. One of the most enchanting features of the bungalow was the central lily pond, which was in full bloom and added a peaceful, almost magical charm to the space.
The garden was expansive and beautifully maintained — a paradise for our puppy, who had the time of his life exploring it! The fact that the property is pet-friendly made our trip even more special. We also loved meeting Chooba, the in-house dog, who was a total sweetheart.
The rooms were cool, cozy, and exceptionally comfortable — I genuinely had some of the best sleep I’ve had in a long time. After hot days in the sun, the pool was the perfect place to cool off and unwind.
What stood out the most was the clear love and passion Damith has poured into this place. It’s evident in every detail, from the ongoing improvements to the stories he shared about the bungalow’s history and his inspiring sustainability practices.
This isn’t just a place to stay — it’s an experience, one filled with charm, warmth, and genuine hospitality. I can’t recommend it highly enough and can’t wait to return! Nothing!
- Ashwini (10/5): Exceptional - Everything about this stay reminded us about our grandparents' place. It was warm, cozy and super helpful people around Nothing..
- Stories (3/5): Poor -
- Llywelyn (4/5): No frills authentic Sri Lankan home stay - I stayed at this house recently and had a mix of experiences. While the property itself is traditional and authentic as advertised, there were several details that detracted from an otherwise pleasant stay. Damith was quick to address any queries and issues. One highlight was the bathtub in the second-floor room was pretty nice and spacious. Wi-fi was normal. Location is about 2.5km from Weligama beach, a tuk tuk or bike ride away. The second-floor room and bathroom were not properly sealed, allowing road noise, neighbor noise, and insects to come through freely. This also meant that the air conditioning was constantly escaping and unsustainable; the room became hot very quickly after sunrise. The first night was particularly difficult to get to sleep due to the neighbor's rave music, which kept us awake. We woke up to the heat in the attic room the following morning. A free standing fan would keep the air better circulated.
The bathroom, and particularly the shower cubicle, has seen better days as well—specifically, one handle is missing, and the rain shower needs some maintenance. There were many ants crawling towards the toilet bowl, which we managed to sort out by spraying hot water, daily. Additionally, the bathroom lacked essential accessories for soap and shower gel, making it less accommodating than I had anticipated. It would also be nice to have drinking water or cups that could be replenished in the room.
Finally, the bed sheets were clean but torn.
In summary, while there are certainly areas for improvement, particularly regarding guest comfort, the house is as authentic as one can get. I hope the management considers these points to enhance the experience for future guests.
If you are looking for comfort, look elsewhere; but for a night or two in a traditional house with creaking floorboards and an authentic Sri Lankan living experience, this would be unforgettable.
- Anurag (9/5): Superb -
- P (10/5): Perfect Holiday - The villa, rooms, and lotus courtyard are all beautiful in every detail. The tropical garden with flowers and the swimming pool are refreshing. It's quiet, peaceful, and calming.
Thank you for the delicious breakfast and the early morning milk tea before departure. I appreciate it. I look forward to the villa and garden becoming even more wonderful.
You can go for a walk on the small beautiful beach nearby, see the impressive temple, and come across the morning market in the direction of Weligama Station. Even if you don't surf, there are local pleasures to be had.
This is a villa that makes you want to stay for a long time.
- Corrina (8/5): Beautifully styled and pretty resort, perfect for us - Beautiful traditional style small resort, very pretty, central pond area lovely, gorgeous garden pool area. Nice host, really helpful and we loved Tooba the dog. The resort is a little way out from main beach resort area which we loved, you can walk to a lovely beach in under 10 mins and a cafe opposite this beach is good. We stayed in two different rooms, our first one didn’t have a mosquito net which we really wanted. Our second room was much nicer.
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional -
- Marta (9/5): Beautiful and unusual place! - The place is absolutely stunning! The pond, beautiful gardens and lovely pool in the middle of all the greenery! Bed was extremely comfy, hot shower and a bath in the little garden was a great little feature.
We have been greeted with a lovely coffee. The owner was smiley and accommodating. When we asked if they had any beers on offer, he advised that they don't but they would get some from the shop from us which was so lovely of them!
You can so easily tell how much love and heart the owner has put in this place. Lots of little improvements continue happening around.
I would happily stay again Sadly we had very noise bunch of guests above us, who were extremely loud, and given the floors are wooden, you could hear every word and every step. Lack of consideration on their part and had to have a word with them which sorted the issue. Not the owners or the property's fault, some people can't be helped.
- Sharon (6/5): Disappointing - There were dead bugs all over our bed on the 2nd night, unclear source. The facility hosted some sort of film shooting which was quite noisy until late at night
- Tasnim (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lynda (9/5): Great typical house renovated with flair - Beautifully restored Sri Lankan property both building and gardens . Damith never stops working ! He has renovated it with some great quirky bathrooms . Staff all great . Comfort great also . Breakfast equally great . Chuba wonderful dog ! Location a bit far from town but not a real problem - rent a scooter . Great little restaurant straight opposite . Some facilities to hang clothes would be an added bonus
- Lynda (9/5): Beautiful , quirky hotel . - Beautiful & quirky Sri Lanka house with Lucious tropical garden , lovingly restored by the owner himself .Great staff and great breakfast . No bad points except maybe :- A little far out of town for eating & beach but a small good restaurant directly in front -,hiring a scooter solves the problem .
- Pavel (10/5): I had a fantastic stay at this hotel! It’s clear that they prioritize sustainability and health, which added an extra la -
- Ivan (9/5): Superb -
- Ana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Vivek (9/5): Amazing bungalow for a short stay at weligama - Excellent bungalow converted into a hotel/guest house. Housekeeper was super helpful too. A bit more co fort would have been great. Too many mosquitos.
- Abhilash (10/5): Good stay if you have nothing to do. - I have a deep appreciation for old and vintage properties, and this stay was truly delightful. The place is beautifully maintained by the owner, Damit, and the caretaker, Ishru. Both were incredibly friendly and cooperative, going out of their way to assist us. Damit shared fascinating stories about the property’s history, how he acquired it, and his inspiring sustainability practices. Overall, it was a wonderful experience! The area becomes quite dark after 6 PM, and there isn’t much to do around.
- Mayoni (10/5): Exceptional - It’s really cozy highly recommend for a family… it is not far away from the beach too the owner is very friendly too
- Gillian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Charline (10/5): Exceptional - Very romantic and well-decorated place. The pool and the garden are out of this world.
The « natural » bathrooms are very beautiful no matter the weather. We absolutely loved our stay there and the staff is wonderful. You need to take the bus or Tuktuk to reach weligama beach or the restaurants
- Nihal (10/5): beautiful stay with a wonderful host. can’t recommend enough :) - beautiful home not too far from the beach. host was welcoming and ensured our stay was comfortable. the house itself is stunning and surrounded by beautiful greenery. the bathroom is beautiful but open, so don’t be surprised if you get a few insects wondering in.
- Jay (8/5): Pleasant stay in a beautiful property - Overall stay can't think of anything
- Senevirathne (9/5): Truly a gem of a place , Convenient location , comfortable stay & great hospitality - EXCEPTIONAL BREAKFAST !! breakfast is a mix of western , and traditional food with fruits. However you can talk with damith and customize to your preference. Aircon was abit faulty but the manager quickly attended to the issue.
- Hamit (7/5): 10 min tuktuk from central Mirissa - Excellent design & the best bed we have had in entire Sri Lanka
- Arabella (10/5): Our favourite spot in Sri Lanka so far! - We LOVED our stay! It was absolutely amazing!!! Gracious hosts and breakfast was an added bonus we didn’t expect. The house is gorgeous and obviously had been well loved and taken care of. The little details are a real treat. The gardens are well maintained as well and brimming with life and is like a little oasis. Having a swim in the pool with the monkeys above us and an adorable cat & dogs saying hello was a treat! Thank you so much for the most wonderful little stop!
- Akansha (10/5): I stayed at Foozoo mantra with my parents and we all loved it! The comfort and love the place resonates is beyond words. - The heritage bungalow holds a special place in my heart! The welcoming and homely vibe of the place is incomparable. Damith the host of the place made sure that we are comfortable and our needs are met. The home is beautiful and reflects true Sri Lankan heritage and architecture. Anyone interested in exploring the authentic side of Sri Lanka must stay here!
The food prepared by Damith was something we will never forget. Top class presentation and authentic Sri Lankan palette is worth 5 stars.
The place comes with a cute dog Chuba and a friendly cat! So be sure to pet them, they are lovely Mosquitoes can be annoying at times
- Ritika (9/5): Serenity. - This property has such brilliant and positive energy that you can instantly feel it when you enter. You'll be surrounded by nature. If you are looking for some peace during your vacation, stay here without a doubt. Damit is an amazing person. Helped us out with whatever we needed and he did more than we asked for and always with a lovely smile on his face. I will definitely come back to this property again, maybe next year 🤩 I wish I didn't have to think this hard to think of a flaw.
- Fiona (9/5): Highly recommended - Beautiful building thats been sympathetically furnished. Spacious room for family. Helpful and attentive staff. 10 mins walk to great beach The shower is a bit grim. Leaks and sealant is mouldy. Small point but needs some tlc.
- Rahunandan (10/5): Great stay - - lovely property and well maintained by the host
- although breakfast wasn’t included in our booking, but the host did a fantastic breakfast for us!
- great host who made our stay very memorable and enjoyable - abit out of town but host offered his bike. You could also easily rent a bike which would make the travel into town / beach spots quite easy.
- Naveen (7/5): Good -
- Ashwini (5/5): Disappointing since the pictures didnt match the real state - the location. the pool. the property itself was nice didn't like the fact that the property wasn't maintained. It was run down. the pictures on bookings did not match the real state of it. Didn't feel that it was very clean. the towels that were given to us from the hotel were dusty. Some room ACs didnt work properly. There was dog poo in the garden so we didn't feel like walking outside.
Overall great property which has been neglected. However the service by the staff was satisfactory considered the low rates we paid.
- Seraiah (4/5): Disappointing -
- Selvakumar (8/5): Very good - Very friendly host ❤️ loved the food Lighting
- Samarasinghe (9/5): Superb -
- Bathool (10/5): Exceptional -
- Fatimatuz (6/5): Lovely space but too noisy frogs - Beautiful place, nice and clean rooms! The whole night it was SO LOUD coz of the frogs and we could barely get any sleep!
- Ruben (10/5): Wonderful house, must stay - This was such a relaxing environment in a wonderful house. Would definitely recommednd
- Imali (8/5): Very good -
- Chi (8/5): Very good - The design and the Taste of owner was amazing. Is going to be even more beautiful after the renovation. The staff was very helpful when helping me ordering food from local shops It's a little bit too rusty. The balcony door was not able to be locked (scary). The room upstairs needs more space to hang clothes
- Durga (8/5): Very good -
- Durga (8/5): Very good -
- Анастасия (10/5): I don’t think you will find a better place in Weligama than this - Very cosy, beautiful and peaceful place. On the territory there live two cute dogs who greet you every time. The interior of the hotel is very beautiful. and the staff is beyond praise. I felt better than at home with my mother. breakfasts! These are literally the best hotel breakfasts I have ever eaten in my life. Damith, the host, is very open, friendly and will always help. My favorite person on Sri Lanka.
This place is also away from the noise of the streets, but close enough to everything. bed with blanket! I really miss this on the island, but sleeping here was perfect. plus the interior has been polished to the smallest detail. The soundproofing in the rooms is weak, you can hear what is happening in other rooms too well. I also have missed hooks in the bathroom for wet towels and a toilet. but for me these are small things, and I would definitely come again 🖤🖤🖤
- Alina (10/5): Exceptional - the pool was really great, and architecture of villa is good, good working AC and beautiful garden mosquitoes
- Sam (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic stay - I didn't want to leave! The building itself is beautiful, with a swimming pool, friendly dogs (Chuba and Chu Chu) and the delicious breakfast by the lotus garden was a lovely way to begin the day. Damith the owner is lovely and obviously obsessed with plants as the garden is amazingly well maintained :D
I hope to stay again:) -
- Mohammad (10/5): Exceptional -
- Chi (8/5): Very good - The design was stunning, the staff was extra helpful and friendly. They should pay more attention on details: towels in the room, fix the small defects around the house, clothes hanger in the rooms, adding shampoos and soaps to the bathroom
- Gema (10/5): You must to stay!!! Unique experience!!! - The place is unique 😍😍!!! The owners very nice and helpful All was amazing 🤩!!
- M.p.amila (9/5): Superb - the elegant look of the building
- Jason (9/5): Superb - Stunning place, great location and room. Felt like a premium stay with the design and space. Being an old building, noise can be heard throughout the room from everywhere and everyone else in the residence, however earplugs can fix this very easily.
- Dassanayake (8/5): Very good -
- Evaldas (10/5): Perfect stay! - The house is very beautiful, rooms are big, common spaces are well planned and open with many architectural details. Also, you can use big and specious kitchen, which is always open.
The property has this colonial vila feeling, which is exceptional.
The host is a welcoming person and takes care that your stay is nice.
We enjoyed the stay very much and would love to be back. The house is close to road and sometimes you can hear loud praying from the local temple in the early mornings, so might be too noisy in the morning for some, but it was not a problem for us.
- Glynn (9/5): Great stay, cracking value, helpful staff make for characterful stay. - Character property, friendly staff, nice pool, great staff, onsite parking, great breakfast. Good value for money. Due to the nature of the historic building and having numerous rooms around a shared courtyard it can be a bit echoey on an evening if other guests are still up talking but don’t let this put you off it’s great place to experience.
- Eva (10/5): Scenic, stylish - Loved the style of the property. So scenic sitting by the pond of fish and lotus flowers. The bed was so comfortable, excellent sleep. Nice hot shower with a door to the garden. Very good breakfast and fruits on request. Since it's an open shower the bathroom floor stays wet for a long while. A squeegee could help mitigate it. The garden is close to the walkway of the staff, so not always fully private.
- Nitin (8/5): Very good -
- Lalitha (6/5): Pleasant -
- Mylene (10/5): Perfect for an Inner Retreat - everything ! Mosquitos!
- Colette (8/5): Beautiful place to stay - The building itself is beautiful and a very interesting place to stay. There is a communal kitchen and different areas to sit in the property. The staff were really kind and easy going. Location was a little out of Weligama but walkable or grab a tuk tuk. It would be good if the hosts had a few reliable tuk tuk drivers to contact as we occasionally struggled. The building is historic and open in places, so there were a lot of mosquitos in the room (although there was a bed net). The room didn't lock which didn't bother us but might not suit everyone. And there was only one lounger by the pool.
- Constance (10/5): Exceptional - Super nice, cozy and cool place. Nothing
- Christian (10/5): Something really special - It was really a pleasure to stay in the very individual old villa. Everything is made and prepared with love and the garden is exceptional. Loved it to wander around in the morning and have a look at the different flowers and trees.
Also the breakfast is super delicious and the bed is very comfortable. If you looking for a very special place to stay go for it.
Having a rented scooter makes it very easy not to be in the city Centre with a big plus that it is way more calm.
- Karin (10/5): Colonialhouse with love maintained - Super Colonialhouse with garden and pool with love maintained and cared. The owner Damith is very friendly and helpfull. Very good breakfast. Bed was awesome comfy. Highly recommended for travelers who look for something special Nothing

- Raphael (10/5): A place like no other. - Foozoo is a unique place. It was by far our favourite stay throughout our whole trip in Sri Lanka. Damith manages the place not just with a keen eye for detail and perfection but he also pours his heart into everything. Everything is SO neat, clean and beautiful. Garden, pool, rooms - the whole house is kept in great conditions and makes not only for an eye-catching but also a cozy and relaxing atmosphere to indulge in. Damith also served us some of the most delicious breakfast we’ve had and he was always making us feel very welcome and was able to provide assistance and give us tips for places to see around the area. Animal lovers will enjoy the dog that’s living there with him :)

very friendly
he helped us with our laundry for free, allowed us to check out late and to do photoshooting in whole territory and let us come in free room that has bath to do pictures there
wifi was really good
they have 3 dogs on their territory and one of them is really nice and funny (Chuba)
location is very good and quiet
they have some shops in front
room was very clean
and also they have nice toothpaste and really good shower gel only hot water was finishing quick but it’s not a big deal, when the rest is perfect
- Anthony (5/5): Definitely not to our expectations as depicted and reviews - Dogs and cats constantly irritating even at meal times. Hot water suddenly unavailable. Water supply cut off at night.
There was a worm in one of the towels
- Monica (9/5): Outdoor bathtub old villa - the bathtubs are amazing. its an old house, rooms are spacious. we had the warmest welcome as the owner had with him a 2month pup. We ordered breakfast and it was really good, big portions too! there were problems with the water pump and we had to use the bathroom downstairs. the bigger bedroom has a lot mof mosquitoes at night as the roof is made of tiles and isnt sealed.
