Lawrence (7/5): Aims high but falls short. - Beautiful gardens, quiet. Nice rooms. Beautiful breakfast served by very good staff. No wifi code offered or posted in rooms. Reception was not manned and welcome was missing. Room was far too hot. Bar unmanned, couldn’t get a drink for a night cap.

Das Frühstückspersonal ebenso höflich und freundlich, stets bemüht um das Wohl des Gastes. Uns hat es sehr gut gefallen, und wir können das Hause uneingeschränkt empfehlen.. Nichts

Andy (10/5): A beautiful short stay in a gem of a hotel - The hotel itself is a beautiful building, set in lovely grounds. Our room was spacious and clean. The bed, though soft, was very comfortable. The bathroom was roomy, the power-shower over bath was hot and had great pressure. The breakfast was top notch, high quality ingredients cooked to order. The staff were friendly, we had lovely chats with both Sue and Chef Bob, and met the resident Dog, Poppy, who loved a fuss :) The only thing (and this goes for a lot of hotels) was the lack of a toilet brush (sounds silly, but I’d rather clean the toilet if needs be)

Es war sauber und die Bedienung beim Frühstück sehr freundlich. der Lage war ruhig, aber zum Ort ca. 15 Minuten ( auch sehr schön durch den Park) zum Fuss. Ein paar Häkchen oder einen Regal im Badezimmer wäre erfreulich und Natur Jogurt zum Frühstück wäre auch nett.

Charlie (5/5): A bad start to our holiday - The room we ended up in was clean and comfortable When we arrived to check in we were told that the room arranged via booking was not pet friendly and we would have to upgrade costing an additional £20 The manager emailed me later claiming I had taken an extension cable from the property, which I had not I asked for an apology but did not receive any further reply ☹️

Vanessa (6/5): Grand hotel with good points, however I think the personable touch could be improved. - There was easy parking, ideal location for walking in to Hawick. The room was a good size and was comfortable. The bathroom facilities were modern and the shower was great, despite being a bit noisy. There were lots of steps and stairs in the building, we had suitcases and had to lug them up a grand staircase, as no lift available. We were not particularly welcomed in the hotel, but the serving staff at breakfast were polite. I asked for gluten free/vegetarian options and felt a bit like an inconvenience.

Hester Kuhon (10/5): We had a great stay, and we will stay at Balcary Hotel again. - We can't thank the owners, Sue and David Watson, enough for going the extra mile to make our stay very pleasant, and to show us places. Breakfast was good. The Hotel's location is excellent The room was very clean, the bed comfortable, bedlinen and towels were soft, an extra soft pillow was provided. The bathroom was very clean. Parking was easy. All in all, an excellent hotel.

Lorraine (3/5): READ carefully if you plan to book! - It is a short walk into town which was great. The paid staff on site were lovely and welcoming. My issues are with how the owners manage this property. An example : - supposedly open all day , but arrived after 2 pm for check-in to find note on the door they owners would be back in an hour - no text or email sent to us prior or apology when returned - not shown to room - greeted with cold room & hall lights off on arrival - light switch we found was at the other end of the hall - our room had an old power shower that was so incredibly noisy I needed to turn the volume up significantly to hear tv (if I had ear plugs I would have used them in the shower); I could hear neighbouring room similar ! - there’s a notice in the room not to drink the tap water but the bottled water in room not refilled daily - dirty ashtray with cigarette butts on balcony - tv required a PIN - when queried with owner I was advised I could google the generic number as different for each tv - poor quality breakfast (eg given supermarket processed sausages - yet town has numerous butchers) - black marks on thin towels (not not changed during stay) We had prepaid for 4 nights in a standard double room - but left early. Not withstanding only a couple of visitors at the hotel there was no reaction when I handed over the keys. Only “thank you” .
Michaela (2/5): Wir waren sehr enttäuscht und empfehlen diese Unterkunft nicht weiter - Der Garten war schön und es war sauber Wir haben ein landestypische Zimmer in einem alten Landhaus gebucht und bezahlt. Es war für uns nicht ersichtlich, dass diese auf den Fotos wunderschönen Zimmer nicht für Hunde sind. Stattdessen wurden in der dem Haus angrenzenden Lodge gegen einen Aufpreis von £ 40 untergebracht. Dieses Zimmer entsprach in keiner Weise den ansprechenden Zimmern im Hauptgebäude. Es war kalt, ungemütlich, spärlich eingerichtet, Plastikboden. Deshalb können wir das Hotel Hundeleuten nicht empfehlen. Dazu kam, dass das Personal abweisend bis unfreundlich war. Insgesamt fehlte jegliches Entgegenkommen, Gastfreundlichkeit und Kundenorientierung.

The bathroom was also large, We walked into the town in the evening, very easy walk. The guest lounge downstairs was a beautiful room with lots of light, a peaceful place to sit. The breakfast room was also very nice, as was the breakfast. Would certainly stay again the next time we visit Hawick. Nothing

Moira (5/5): Hopeless no customer service.. not a hotel .. you are left hungry and thirsty and they didn’t care - It looks nice but no food , two tiny bottles of water in the room.. no bar .. couldn’t fill the kettle from the very small sink and water from tap not drinkable!!.... poor toiletries and no food .. in fact guy on reception cut us off down on the phone ( when we called to Co firm we could get food based on booking.com info and before we walked another 2km whilst in Hawick centre and GeV told us, after walking 18 miles, that there’s nowhere for food in Hawick and he seemed to think it was funny. We were tired and hungry and thirsty with no help / support from this supposed hotel …we were overall over charged for what is only a glorified B£B… not a hotel Nothing

Wilson (9/5): Brilliant - Receptionist was very pleasant and helpful, Breakfast was wonderful and staff very helpful and cheerful. Hotel was very well appointed and decorated. An evening meal would have been a nice option.
Leslie Frederick (9/5): Relaxing stop over in a beautiful country house hotel. - A really exceptional country house renovated to a high standard and in keeping with original fittings and fixtures. The wife was overawed with the room, lounge, and dining room. Breakfast was fine. Nothing to complain about. Only thing that struck me was should it get busy parking could be limited.

Laila (10/5): Lovely people amazing food! - The breakfast was 5 star quality ingredients and very generous portions as good as much more expensive hotels. The couple who run it are lovely especially the man had a lovely chat with him at breakfast and they are very welcoming the decor is lovely proper Scottish country house feel to it. Even if we count £20 for the breakfast I would expect a little more of the room facilities for the price. Pretty much the same as a travel lodge in a large city centre for £35 compared to the £115 I paid for me and my 7 year old. Be nice to have an extra set of towels for my daughter as I only got one, maybe a coffee machine and access to streaming services since we where not paying for a view. The dogs are mainly friendly a bit barky if caught of guard so if your wary of little dogs something to think about.

JOHNNY (4/5): Disappointing for £180 p/n - The room (Lodge) was clean, apart from blood on the duvet cover (not ours btw). It was a good size though. The shower was scalding. There was intermittent cold water in the hand basin hence the shower issue. Very dangerous for a youngster!!! The 'Lodge' was in a backyard parking area, not very appealing!. Also, there was no shampoo / conditioner nor a mirror in the main area (for drying hair) For £180 per night I'd expect a fridge as a minimum.

Bowie (10/5): Joy and friendly - Since our check-in time that day was super late, the hotel also arranged for someone to do a late check-in with us. I felt very warm and nice, and they were very enthusiastic in explaining everything to us. Nothing to challenge

Sarah (10/5): Lovely hotel, friendly staff, excellent breakfast!! - We stayed in one of the lodges, it was clean and in very good condition with everything you need. The only thing I would say to prospective customers is that there is a fire exit sign in the lodge (which there should be) that of course has a green light, if you are sensitive to light when you are sleeping or trying to sheep you may want to consider bringing an eye mask.

Tracy (9/5): Comfortable in a beautiful house hotel. Clean and friendly, great breakfast. - The staff were so friendly and helpful. The room was great. We were staying with our small dog and were in Lodge 1 which was perfect for us. We had breadfast in the bar so the dog could be with us. The breakfast was huge and the bacon was fabulous. There was nothing we didn't like.

After a 8 hour drive up from England. Not very welcoming at reception lack of info in room so glad we had a bath as the shower all though new looking was extremely noisy

Adam (9/5): - We really liked this small hotel in Hawick. It's warm and refurbished inside, rooms were great size and both the room and en suite were immaculate. Special shout to Bob, the chef who made an amazing breakfast but was also so friendly and helpful in pointing us towards a great restaurant in nearby Denholm. He made us feel really welcome and had lots of great stories. Hawick isn't for party animals - the high street is very quiet even at weekends, and a lot of shops only open 10-2, but it's a great location to explore from.

Charles Farrell (10/5): Splendid, friendly and welcoming stay in a delightful location - Staff rumbled up a nice snack for our dinner and we enjoyed a superb breakfast following by an interesting chat with the chef. Our room at the back of the hotel was spacious and gave great access to the carpark. Perfect for our canine travelling companion. It was delightful to enjoy such a splendid hotel and location. Would definately visit again, when visiting the area again.

Paul (7/5): Could do better!! Try smiling!! - Good location for exploring Hawick. Bedroom and shower good although tap water not drinkable and mirror over toilet and not over sink not ideal. (Room 7). Given two bottles of water clearly not enough!! Breakfast okay and good quality products but potato scone overcooked and greasy Receptionist/manager very unwelcoming. Registration form plonked on desk and told fill that in. No hello or welcome. Presume have to pay more a smile. WiFi also very weak.
